What will our offense look like?

Less then 24 hours till our first game and I’ve been thinking (usually this is not the best idea) about how creative B-Schott will be this year. Last year our offense was not creative at all. I remember seeing a stat on CBS that when TJ was lined up 7 yards deep in the backfield we ran the ball over 80% of the time. Will the addition of Faneca and Favre allow for more creativity?

I think this is a make or break year of the young offensive coordinator. I would like to see some different looks from our offense. Who do I have to pay around here to see Brad Smith throw the football? Every time he comes in I and every other fan in the stadium knows he’s going to run the ball. We need to see some new wrinkles in the offense!

So I ask you faithful readers, what do you want to see from the new look Jets offense?

  1. I don’t think the goal for our offense is to be creative. We now have the players in place to run the ball more effectively and a QB who can make all the throws. Having the offense excel at the “basics” will enable more creativity, but after last year I will be happy with 4 yds and a cloud of dust every play.

  2. i really want Brad to unlock his inner Antwan Randle El , i think now that schotty has more of the playbook available to him because of favre’s arm , we will see alot of trick plays , which is always exciting to watch , well only if they work, we all know schotty is a very creative guy with his plays , now lets see if he will call any of those creative plays

  3. I’m seriously worried about the lack of “real game” practice the statrting unit has had this off season> Not only that but Farve has never demonstrated genious status. I firmly believe his intelligence is suspect and that is why he complains about how big the playbook is. I don’t thin he has enough plays to confuse the Dolphins D. We’ll see soon enough. I see that the whole city has gulped B’way Bretts koolaide but soon it will be show and tell.

  4. Drose if you’re asking what offensively we would like to see, I think I speak for a majority of fans: THE DEEP BALL!
How long has the bomb been gone from the franchise that made it look so pretty back in the AFL days?
I know, it’s a different game today, blah blah blah..
While a defense wins a championship, it is the offense that gets you there.
I WANT TO SEE POINTS! No more settling for field goals and hoping for a turnover. no more predictable “cute” plays like the double reverse to B.Smith for a run. Hell, I’d love to see Brad actually throw the ball like you mentioned.
I truly believe the “West Coryell” may evolve this year with Favre at the helm.

  5. I want to see the running of the ball early. The respect that Brett gets from the CBs and safetys is going to help Jones emencely. Jones should be a workhorse this year. That is what actually wins SuperBowls! I expect him to average 4 yards a carry this year. As the game goes on the CBs and safetys are going to inch up to attack Brett and the line. And they will pay. With the seem passes and screen plays. With an occasional 50 yard bomb!!!

-Happy to be a Jets fan with actual bombs.

  6. I expect big things from the passing game. Last year we weren’t bold because we COULDN’T be bold. Now, things will change for the better.

  7. Firs play from scrimage J-Co deep. We haven’t seen that in a long time.

  8. How about we start with what I don’t want to see…

    I don’t want to see a horizontal offense…
I dont want to see a dump off pass every 3rd down..
I dont want to see the same formation leading to the same exact play every time
I don’t want to see Shotty attempting to be too tricky because he tends to out smart himself

    What I want to see…

I want to see 20 carries for TJ and 10-15 carries for L. Washington per game
I want to see under 30 pass attempts from Brett Favre
I want to see an effective running game from the 1st quarter til the 4th quarter.

Basically what I want to see…

A violent ground game (which we will not get out of TJ or LW)

  9. First offensive play, play action deep ball to cotchery or seem route to keller! in the preseason we kept trying to establish the run from the start and didn’t have much success. so lets switch it up with play action on the first play. The phins def. front looks descent, but there secondary looks weak, so let #4 pick them apart!I would love to see the first couple of plays all be throwing plays with a couple of deep line drive passes!

  10. WR reverse pass from Brad Smith to David Clowney when he gets healthy

  11. Other than that I agree with what NY said

  12. Brad S is gonna rip and run the afc east. The OL is thick and quick and smart. BF is gonna trick and make sick the Def in the way. The jets are gonna win 4 and then gel. PS. Have U seen the size of our Def line. BEAST I SAY BEAST. two256@yahoo.com.

  13. Hank/Naples,

Steve Mariucci, who was Favre’s O coordinator in GB and was HC of the Lions, as well as various offensive position coaches in San Fran, said Favre was one of the most intelligent QB’s he’s ever worked with, he also said that Favre has a near photographic memory. This from a guy who has worked with Joe Montana and Steve Young. I wouldn’t worry about his intelligence.

Favre probably has 30-40 plays (pass) down pact at this point, which is plenty to start the season with. They will install more of the play book as the season progresses.

  14. I see our offense being dynamic and unstoppable, maybe not the first game or two, but definetly clicking by the the bye.

We have 4 WR who are, collectively, as good as any in the league. I’m refering to Coles, Cotchery, Smith and Stuckey. We have two TE’s who can work the midle of the field, Baker and Keller. We have two good RB’s, and yes, TJ will be good because our OL will be good.

I expect to see our offense out play Miami ,and by the bye week we should be that dynamic and unstoppable offense we have all proyd for sinse we became Jet fans.

  15. Ranble 914:
I love you man, but i’m not talking about the season. Mariucci is out of football for a reason!!. I’m talking about the most important game the Jets are going to play in the last three years three years. I don’t feel confortable with Farve having very limited practice and limited intelligence.

  16. I would like to see more touchdowns …… that’s it.

  17. When it is 3rd and 7, I want to see the ball go in the air more than 7. In the past 5 or 10 years, when it is 3rd and 7, they have a 4 yard completion and hope the receiver gets to the 1st down marker. This year on 3rd and 7, I want to see the receivers go 10 yards and then come back 2 yards to catch the ball for an 8 yard gain. Is that too much to ask for?

  18. pd

    im with you man…just score 25-30 points a game…i dont care how..just do it…

  19. Farve not knowing the playbook… The plays and routes Farve like to throw are probably better than what’s in Schotts playbook. One thing Farve mentioned was we shifted and motioned to much. I think most of us have felt that way… Right? How about Rewriting the playbook? Who’s to say the best impact Farve will have on the Jets is helping Schott be a better OC? I think Farve is right about some things pertaining to this O and we should just line up and flat out take it to the D! That’s what I want to see.

  20. Reprocity
Couldn’t agree more. Farve knows more about running an offense and reading a defense than anyone on our coaching staff.

  21. hank/naples
Where do you get that limited intelligence crap. Farve has more that he can teach Schott than Schott can teach Farve.

And the trick plays aren’t trick plays when everyone knows its coming.

  22. I dont think that the jets were really that bad in the past couple of years. When your defense is out on the field for 65% of the time you give up points. We need first downs and touchdowns. Give the defense a chance and a couple of more breathes a game and you’ll see more sacks and more into’s. I expect at least two interceptions and four sacks on Sunday. Final score 35-10. The Jets offense keeps the ball for 60-65% of the time. No trick plays no gimmicks. Just smash mouth football.

  23. touchdowns

  24. I just woke up and I’m on my way to the airport in a bit to catch an international flight. I mention this because I had a very vivid dream about the Jets. They were playing the Colts (playoff game??) in Indy and running the ball for the Jets was . . . Shawn Alexander. Weird. Anyway, if I don’t get settled in time for the game and online chats . . . lets do this!!! J E T S Jets Jets Jets

  25. All I can say is, just less than six hours to kick off and I can’t wait to find out. I’m ready for some FOOTBALL!!!

  26. under 20 minutes until we kick this season off…I’m very excited but also pretty nervous so LETS GO JETS!!!!
