Jets favored in week 2
The loss of New England’s quarterback, Tom Brady, has cost the Patriots one other thing besides their talented playmaker: the inexhaustible confidence of the odds makers. For the first time since December 2006, the Pats are an underdog for a regular season game.
Two sports books have issued the early line and they agree that the Jets are a 2 1/2 point favorite to defeat the Patriots in the Meadowlands Sunday. Since the Jets are the last team to defeat the Patriots in the regular season, and one of the few teams that played them close last year, some of the credit must go to the opponents. If you’re a slow reader, that’s us.
Naturally, for experienced Jets fans, this is hardly something to brag about. We’re much happier with low expectations. But, there is one silver lining. At least I can’t hear Mad Dog’s radio show any more. If he picks the Jets to cover, please don’t tell me.

This makes sense. The Pats can beat the JETS on any given Sunday, with or without Brady (similar to the Dolphins).
HOWEVER, Brady was far and away the most important player on the Pats. His Meadowlands streak predated Randy Moss’ acquisition. Without him, they are relatively unremarkable on offense, in my opinion. They also have an aging and slowing defense.
So while I’m a pessimistic JETS’ fan who always expects the worst, they SHOULD win this game on paper, which is the first time I’ve said that in a loooooong time against the Pats. With Brady there, its a no-brainer in the Pats’ favor in terms of who “should” win. Honestly, if neither Brady or Favre were playing, I’d pick the JETS. I think they have a better team but Brady is the biggest difference-maker in the NFL.
lets hope mangini doesn’t go into conservative mode again that almost killed us on sunday
and lets hear it for lowery that kid played his ass off yeah he couldn’t defend that TD to lee but he was looking tight out there
Both cornerbacks looked good. But don’t we need a kicker if we expect to win.
This game will be tougher than the Miami game. NE is a group of veterans who know how to win. If anyone on the Jets thinks this will be easy, Sunday will come as a shock. The only way the Jets are winning is if they rise to the occasion. Offense, Defense, and Special Teams will all have to play better. That being said, I think it will be the easiest game of the next three. Go Jets.
I thought the Jets had a shot in this one with Brady playing and now that he will clearly not be playing in week 2 I like the Jets chances that much more. As a Jets fan though I know this is usually the kiss of death. It will be a close game regardless and maybe just maybe we will pull it out.
We barely beat Miami without a kicker. That won’t happen against New England.
let me tell you something…the patriots are A SOLID TEAM!! from TOP to BOTTOM,and whether you like him OR not,BELICHEAT is one of ,if not the BEST coach in football. losing BRADY IS HUGE! NOONE is DENYING that! and in all reality, MOST teams might FOLD! but NOT THIS ONE! they are gonna come out and LEAVE IT ALL ON THE FIELD! if ANYONE thinks this is a “lock” win for us knows absolutely NOTHING about football. by them favoring the J-E-T-S ,all it is, is their feeble attempt to JUMP on the BAND WAGON! if your a TRUE J-E-T-S fan, then you KNOW nothing comes EASY! P.S….the BUFFALO BILLS are for REAL!
This could be the trap game that everyone was predicting would happen against the fish.
They (the Pats) can still play defense, they can still run the ball, and they still have Moss and Welker. I am sure that Belichek will alter the plan to suit Cassels strenghts. They will have a “circle the wagons” mentality, and will be dangerous. We better be ready.
kc,
As the saying goes “any given Sunday”. No team can take another for granted, if they do, they lose. I’m sure SD didn’t take Carolina seriously and look what happened.
And you are right Buffalo is for real, we better take them real serious.
Belichick has a losing record without Brady?
Most important is that New England knows how to win and they hate to lose. The Jets are still learning how to win and, although nobody likes losing, they still don’t know who will show up on Sunday. By playing games like this one, they will be tougher to beat, at the end of the season. I hope Mangini tells the Jets that, the Patriots will be looking to knock them out. If they think Brady not being there will make a big difference — they will be in for a shock.
