Rich Cimini lists the offensive player groupings on his Daily News blog from the Miami game. Here’s a clipping from his work:
2 RBs/1 TE/2 WRs: 29 out of 55 snaps (53%)
1 RB/1 TE/3 WRs: 16 out of 55 (29%)
1 RB/2 TEs/2 WRs: 8 out of 55 (15%)
2 RBs/2 TEs/1 WR: 2 out of 55 (4%)
A hearty pat on the back to Rich for pulling these together!

I think we will see 2 TE more than 19% of the time against NE. Get Keller on the feild.

nfl.com is reporting that the jets just signed Chris Baker to a 3yr extension

A different way of looking at this, the Jets went 57% with a smashmouth running set and 43% with a passing set. Given the Jets poor 4th quarter field position and lead, I think the Miami game skewed what will be the usual mix, which I bet will be 50-50. The Pats under Belicheat have been susceptible to the deep out. The Jets have to go deep and get a lead. Let’s hope the Pats have forgotten about Coles; I think he gets the deep balls on Sunday. Cotchery has torched the Pats and, after the Miami game, he’ll have the bullseye on his back. The more pressure the Jets can put on Cassel, both in pass rush and responsibility for the offense, the better. If the Pats can play with a lead or slow down the game, Cassel has a better shot. Man, I can’t wait for Sunday!!!!

It would be interesting to know the average yards for each formation plus TDs.

That’s wrong I 100% remember at least one play with 1 RB, 1 WR, 3 TE.

Sackdance99,
In addition to Coles, I think this week will be Kellers coming out party. I think it was no coincidence that Keller got no throws against Miami, I’m betting that Mangini wanted to lull NE to sleep, and then have Keller go crazy against them. It should be fun.

Outstanding insight. Let us not forget that this was only game 1 and Miami (despite Chad’s performance) is not a top quality team. Looking forward to some empty backfields, 4 WR formations, Washington playing in the slot, Keller split out wide facing a small CB, etc. The Jets have put together a potentially very good group of runners and receivers. And as soon as the chef (Favre) is ready to orchestrate, Schott will need to create an innovative game plan, and not be restricted by conservatism or fear of mistakes. Favre is a winner.

I want a few five wide.
