  1. I dont want to re-hash the fireman ed debate but does anyone know if he will be back this year?

  2. C$

Yes, the team rolled him out (which is hilarious to me since he was so upset about being used as a pawn for the West Side Deal) the day before announcing PSLs.

  3. Schilling is a jack ass. Since when do baseball player’s opinions about football count? He needs to shut his pie hole.

  4. Unfortunately, firemen Ed will be back.

  5. Let me re-state my position. Glad he has recovered from his injury and is healthy but I could care less about him being there. If you have ever had a conversation with the guy you would feel like you were talking to Greg Buttle. He thinks he know everything about football. Cant get a word in edge wise.

  6. As much as “Fireman Ed” the person might be an A-hole, “Fireman Ed” the symbol and guy who leads the J-E-T-S cheers is needed. Last season, the crowd in the stadium was lost without him and I heard quite a few fans yell at people who tried to lead cheers as frauds. He brings a lot of excitement and I’ve seen our Jets rally when Fireman Ed spontaneously gets the crowd to cheer, like the ‘98 game against the Seahawks. The whole Jets team looked down, until the crowd started to basically will the Jets to victory. I took a friend to his first Jets game that day and even he said, “the crowd really saved the Jets today.” “Fireman Ed” can rally the crowd like nobody else can.

Now, to the symbol. “Fireman Ed” represents the blue-collar, lunch pail fan base that used to fill up Shea Stadium. We’re not Giants fans, who have catered tailgates and light their cigars with $100 bills. We’re Jets fans, a whole lot of whom were first-responders 7 years ago. So, even if “Fireman Ed” is a jerk personally, I like the idea that the guy who leads our cheers is one of the Bravest.
