Jenkins makes our defense go and it will awsome this year. Can you imagine what our defense will be like when we draft a Jenkis clone with our first pick next year?

  2. avatar hank/naples says:

Answer to above: About 5-6 years of devastation !!!

  3. avatar Sean says:

Bryan Thomas is simply a pathetic human being. This guy did nothing during his first two seasons has a pretty good year gets an unwarranted $25M deal and reverts back to being pathetic. Not sure I have ever seen him really make a big time game changing play.Thought miracles have happened before (Reggie Tongue Interception touchdown in Pitt playoff game).

They should have cut this waste of flesh. He needs competition at his position to get motivated to practice hard and play well. How about this for motivation; WHERE THE HELL WOULD YOU BE RIGHT NOW WITHOUT FOOTBALL?

You think Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher, Shawn Merriman and the like need extra motivation?

The fact that he would even come out and admit this is simply DISGRACEFUL. He did the same thing after 2006 when he had 8.5 sacks. “I wasnt working that hard . . . wasnt motivated . . . etc/.” Sickeninng.

He should go to confession every time he gets paid.

  4. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Let him have a big statistical year and maybe we can trade him to Cleveland for a good draft pick. They need to replace Mcginest anyway and by then Gholston should be ready.

  5. avatar Sean says:

JustAGreenGuy: Good point. I would be ecstatic to see this piece of garbage play anywhere but here. That is an interesting thought bc we are going to need to fill a lot of positions over the next couple of years. RB, QB, OL, DL. Although maybe we get lucky and Ratliff is the real deal. I have heard some analysts talking about this kid (off the air) as if he has a shot.

  6. avatar Pete57 says:

Sean, tell us how you really feel!

  7. avatar Sean says:

LOL. Pete57: Seriously any thoughts on BT? Doesnt this bother you?

  8. avatar DSmizzle says:

That whole Thomas “I wasn’t trying” thing really bothered me, but doesn’t he have a few sacks already this year?!?!?

  9. avatar Sean says:

DSmizzle: He does. He has three. But I could care less if he had 15 this year bc if history repeats itself he will be a dog again next year.

  10. avatar Bent says:

“Can you imagine what our defense will be like when we draft a Jenkis clone with our first pick next year?”

You do realise how rare it is for a player like Jenkins to be available at all in a draft, let alone one with potential first round talent, right?

    Having said that…

  11. avatar Najy says:

Thomas is tied for second in t he league in sacks.. Everyone needs to come down and let this guy do his thing. He will make the pro bowl this year.

At least he was man enough to admit that he wasnt motivated last year. I am sure he wasnt the only one that wasnt motivated on a 4 -12 team. He was just man enough to admit it.

  12. avatar Drew says:

Was anyone motivated last year?? I had a hard time getting motivated to turn on the post game after 4-12…….Athletes are usually dumb. They say dumb things and they do dumb things. I will say that when BT is playing well he stops the run and gets to the QB better than most.

  13. avatar billvv says:

Sean, anybody who refers to another as a piece of garbage has waaaay to high an opinion of himself.

  14. avatar DSmizzle says:

You could really care less if he has 15 sacks? Kind of nuts in my opinion, even if he said something dumb last year about his lack of motivation!

    Its really the inverse of
Statement: “I really stepped it up in the offseason conditioning program this year, which is why I made the Pro Bowl.”

Response: “Oh really, so you’re getting paid 5MILL per year the previous year and DIDN’T work as hard as humanely possible to make yourself and the team better?”

Its being blown out of proportion. The two above comments are really the same thing said differently.

  15. avatar Liam says:

    Bent,

Mt. Cody is a very intriguing prospect. He has gone on record as saying he is going to stay for his senior year but he wouldn’t be the first to change his mind about that.

  16. avatar Liam says:

My new motto: “I’m a man of God who punts”

  17. avatar hank/naples says:

    Bent:

Thanks for pointing Cody out to me otherwise would not have been aware. I will try to following him this year.

I know how hard it is to find another Jenkins however you do Know he was drafted in the middle of the second round right ? How many guys before him, say fifty (50) ? Can be done, right?

  18. avatar Sean says:

Sorry guys you are right. BT was definately worth the $25 Mill considering he did nothing in 2004 and 2005 had a respectable year in 2006 did nothing in 2007.

Im pretty sure that David Harris was motivated last year. Dewayne Robertson looked pretty good in that Pitt game despite playing out of position.

billvv: give me a break. This guy is LAZY and always has been. He has had one good year since entering the league. Stop with the psycho babble bs.

Najy. This guy couldnt make the prowbowl if they counted the tackles he records in practice. Has been around for a while now and has barely made an impact. Has never become a leader on this team. Gets lucky every once and a while when we send the house and coverage is good and gets a sack.

Ever see him actually bull rush or speed rush past someone. NEVER. Very weak player.

Seems you guys are content with overpaying for barely productive players. Probably have no problem with the Yanks paying Pavano all that money to pitch in 6 games.

  19. avatar Najy says:

    Sean,

Stats speak for themselves. He has three sacks in 2 games. Everything else you are saying about him is about the past and based soley on your opinion.

You still cant deny the fact that he is tied for second in the league with 3 sacks and has been generating good pressure on the Qbs. Remember, he was a 4-3 DE in college. Since 06, he has been playing outside linebacker. You are taking that for granted that he should be good because of the position that he was drafted.

This year, he has the right personal around him and should have fully adjusted to the 3-4 outside linebacker postion by now. He should easily get 10 sacks this year.

  20. avatar DSmizzle says:

    Sean:

Whether we like it or not, he is under contract.

Considering we can’t change that fact, we should prolly look at the situation pragmatically: the guy is under contract, had a very nice year 2 years ago, and has the beginnings of a very nice year this year! If he, as someone mentioned, got 15 sacks this year, he will go to the Pro Bowl and will have been a Shawn-Merriman-type impact player on defense.

I was taken aback by Thomas’ comments as well; but that doesn’t mean I won’t appreciate a 15-sack season (or, more realistically, a productive season out of a guy who is being paid to … produce!).

  21. avatar hank/naples says:

    Najy;

What I can’tn understand is that Pace and Thomas carrers have mirrored each other and are our bookends on their way to combined 25 or more sacks on our dominating defense !

  22. avatar Rich says:

Where does Gholston fit into all of this?

  23. avatar hank/naples says:

    BT=$25 million,

    Pace=$42 million,

Why is Thomas abused and Pace Not?

  24. avatar Sean says:

Najy . . .he was too small to play DE. Stats speak for themselves? Its TWO games (one respectable year in 6). He piled up a whopping 6.5 sacks in his first 4 years. So he needs awesome around him to make him good? Sorry Najy but you dont build a defense around BT. Precisely why they brought Gholston in. They dont want BT next year. Although, JustAGreenGuy is right. Lets hope that he has a good year statistically so we can trade his unmotivated a$$.

  25. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

If BT only played a game a year he was more worth it than Pavano. He is a resource that is paying dividends. Be happy he is. I don’t care what he did then it is about what he is doing now. We can trade him later and 25 million isn’t bad for his abilities. He isn’t a sack artist, but he can play when motivated.

  26. avatar Sean says:

hank/naples: Their careers in noway mirror each others. Pace is 2 years younger, never played on a good team and and was seen by many scouts as a young and up and coming player.

Not since he was drafted has BT been considered a leader on a team or an impact player.

  27. avatar Sean says:

$25 million for a “can play when motivated” . . . hahahahahaaha. That is classic. I certainly went into the wrong business.

  28. avatar Najy says:

    Sean,

Wrong!! They brought in VG because he was the best player on the board left in the draft.

Last year, no one looked good on D because the personel was not suited for a 3-4. You had Dewayne Robertson at nose and Victor Hobson at OLB. Who do you think got double teamed and mayb even tripled teamed???

Your stats suffer when you are the only one on the D line that can generate pressure. BT was the only person on our entire team last year that had the ability to generate pressure on his own. Therefore, teams played close attention to him and shut him down.

In football, you are only as good as your team mates allow you to be.

  29. avatar NY Titan says:

Pace has had an immediate positive impact. He is OK in tackles and faring well with QB pressure/sacks, but 97 is around the ball every play. If he’s not the first to the ball, he’ll get there quick. Instant upgrade for us, while BT is erratic. I hope he continues to play well as I agree, it only matters what he’s contributing to the team NOW.

  30. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

We all went into the wrong business. Then again I guess I’m a lil short in the talent department too.

  31. avatar DSmizzle says:

    Sean:

Lets assume Favre throws 25-30 TD’s this year, while throwing for a significant amount of yards, only about 10 INT’s, and leads the JETS to the playoffs.

Are you going to enjoy this season or dwell on his past few years (before last year) of throwing a lot of picks and retiring each offseason?

BT’s past is his past. I’d like to think we can all enjoy his playing well this year instead of dwelling on the past.

  32. avatar hank/naples says:

    Sean:

Sorry guy you’re absolutely wrong. Not only their carrers mirror ea. other but they also are:

    1) The same HT and WT out of college
    2)Both drafted Defensive Ends
3)Both in the middle of the first round, Thomas in the 2002 draft and Pace 2003
4)Both converted to Outside Linebacker five years after entering the NFL and
5)Both in the process of getting 12 or more sacks each for the same team

Need more proof on how wrong you are.
By the way, Thomas is only one year older than Pace
