Seriously? Yes, seriously.
Apparently new punter Reggie Hodges was injured during practice this week and can’t go for the Monday Night game. Graham’s agent has confirmed the news and knowing that he didn’t have anything better to do, the Jets re-signed Graham to the squad for the game.
I don’t even know what else to write …

this is bad.

Yeah, i’m sure he’s so happy to be given another chance with the team that just fired him, and will be super motivated to do his best!!
-
It’ll be interesting to see who the holder is tonight. If it’s someone other than Graham, then he’s just here as a rental. If it’s Graham, and provided he doesn’t shank any, we’ll probably be looking at Graham for the rest of the season.

only the jets….

Tragic. Wierd F’n world
-
there are really no other punters out there? that guy on the the cowboys last night was blasting 65 yarders why cant we get someone like that?
-
I think Ben has done a great job holding, and while his punting has been a bit off so far, atleast we have the continuity on field goals and point afters.
I was a little nervous about the Jets working in a new holder 3 weeks into the season.

Excellent post, thank you!

This is hysterical…I hope Graham views this as an audition and not revenge.
-
he will be okay for tonite…maybe this gave him a wake up call….
but yes only the jets lol

Who got released to make room, Hodges?
-
WHAT A JOKE this coaching staff is!!! Can’t even sign a healthy punter!! The tires are starting to fall off the JETS, Woody. Please recognize it before it is too late. MANGINI MUST GO!!!
-
Every year a hundred or more punters and a hundred or more place kickers graduate from college. Almost none get drafted (much less the second round). When you look around the league most of these guys were no names coming out (nick folk from the cowboys). If have nugent who doesn’t have enough leg and are unhappy with graham (?) then how hard can it be to round up all these guys and try them out. Remember Mangini said a couple weeks ago we intentionally kick to the 5 or 10 to kick runbacks at a minimum but we got killed by Gostkowski kicking deep. Somebody is wrong.

Graham got released to make room for Hodges.
-
Graham’s display against New England was reminiescent of the Louie Aguiar days. When Aguiar left he went to KC and made the pro-bowl.
What happened to this guy after his first year?
Bring Tony Meola in for a try out.
-
Lets sign David Beckham so that he can bend the punts out of bounds inside the 5 yard line.
-
…the ensuing phone conversation:
Mangini: “Beeeeen, Benny baby! The Bensterrrrr! How ya been buddy?”
Ben Graham: “Well, you just released me a few days ago coach, I’m going back to my family and friends in Australia where they APPRECIATE ME FOR WHO I AM!” [punches a koala]
M: “Yeah, about that…Hodges just blew a tire and we mayyyyyyy need you back.”
BG: “CRIKEY! You want me back? AWW COACH I KNEW IT! Let’s have a couple of Fosters and talk about Ben Hogan over dinner!”
M: “Yeah, whatever, just pack lightly…”

Aside from the silliness of waiving Graham, without having a viable replacement, I don’t get why they just didn’t bring in Jeremy Kapinos, who was here last season, briefly. He’s a free agent… and wasn’t that bad.
“On November 27, Kapinos was re-signed to the Jets’ practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on December 22 when wide receiver Laveranues Coles was placed on injured reserve. He saw his first regular season action that week against the Titans, punting five times for 208 yards, including two punts inside the 20. The Jets released him on June 10, 2008.” -
DanC – Thank you. That was great.
-
Dan C’s comment was golden.
And yes, only the jets would do something like this.
-
Editor – I am starting to think that you are the joke. Do you really blame mangini for the new punter’s injury. What – do you think he hit him in the thigh with a steel pipe like Tonya Harding’s guy did to Nancy Kerrigan (or whatever her name was)?
Enough already with the mangini must go nonsense. At least wait until the season is halfway done before posting that on every thread, every day.
-
Hey Dan I heard the conversation was more like this.
Mangin “Hello Ben, we were just kidding”
Graham “Who’s this?”
Mangini ” Coach.”
Graham” Coach who?”
Managini ‘That’s really funny Ben, that’s what we missed most around here the last few days, you sense of humor. …. are you doing anything Moday night?”
Graham” Coach who?”
Mangini ” Come on Ben… We’ll even make you captain again….You know Laverneus hasn’t spoken to the media since we let you go..in fact we give him a “C’ for his uniform too. What do you say mate?”
Graham “Well… alright, since it was all a joke and as long you give me a capital “C” I’ll do it, and I’ll be the best punter ever.”

NYC Parking Lot Expert,
You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. I just happen to think that all of the happenings to the JETS in the first two games depict a coaching staff that is out of touch with the capabilities of their team. Whether you want to cite the penalties (too many men on the field), the lack of a temporary back up kicker when Nugent got hurt, or the three runs into the line, they all point to a coaching staff that is not as well prepared as they should be. This is inexcusable for a 3rd year head coach and coaching staff. I want to see a winner in my life time. The more I see of the 2008 JETS, the more I think I will never ever see the JETS again in the Super Bowl. For the money Mangini and his coaches are making, these errors should NOT be occurring. So I repeat, MANGINI MUST GO!! -
Mangini blows

I hope Graham goes into it hoping to win his full time job back. He could, of course, bet all his savings on the Chargers and then rip off some awesome 18 yarders.
