Final Score: Chargers 48 – Jets 29
OK. Here it is gang. Get it out.
We’re just three weeks into the season and the Jets have lost the two games we thought they would. No statements have been made to God and the world, but there’s been some progress offensively since the start of the season, that much is clear. The Special Teams is righting itself, but now the defense is the question du jour. The Jets head home, have a short week and need to get a win against Arizona, going into the bye 2-2, in the best shape to get things turned around.
Just a few thoughts … it’s late and I am falling asleep.
Kris Jenkins’ Back — Jenkins left the game with back issues and also left a hole in the middle of the defense. I think I spotted LaDanian Tomlinson twirling a cane a couple times as he came through the line. Losing Kris Jenkins for a significant period of time is a real issue for this team. I thought I was watching the Jets defensive line of the past few years. The team has talent, but it’s thin and Sione Pouha is not a quality backup. If Jenkins is out for significant time, the Jets might be wise to move to more 4-3 looks from their defense. By the way, that look with Ellis as the NT is an abortion.
Favre Was Limping — Favre got hit during the course of the game and was hobbling around from that point on during the game … sometimes better and sometimes worse. Never a good sign, but I doubt Favre will let it get in the way of playing … personally I’m more concerned about his progress. Stay tuned on how this works out this week in terms of practice time, injury reports, etc.
Running Game Let Them Down — Although they had to abondon it, the running game didn’t do the Jets any favors. Thomas Jones averaged 3.7 yards per carry, and looks like a player that the Jets will have to seriously consider what the future holds for him this coming offseason.
Espirit de Receving Corps — Three games, three TDs for Chansi Stuckey. Stuck caught six more balls for 42 yards and is proving himself to be a value for this offense. Coles, Cotchery, Stuckey and Keller … the real receiving options are stepping forward.
Special Teams Helping Again — I know people will remember the Wallace Wright play, but Leon was getting the blocks again and it shows. Ben Graham still can’t punt, but Jay Feely didn’t miss any kicks and did his best to knock Weddle out of the way on that onside kick … but to no avail. Gholton’s recovering the onside kick was nice, but if you have to on-side that many times, you’ll never win a game.
Patience With Lowery — Lowery had some good plays early, but the Chargers knew how to counter him. Look for Lowery to improve, but I just hope that Mangini doesn’t do what he always does with a player like this … bury him on the bench for months rather that play through the struggles.

2 and 2 being a good start was based upon playing a Brady led Patriots and a 2-0 Chargers. While one can argue that the Chargers are the same team as expected, once cannot say that about the Patriots as the Dolphins have shown.
While I agree with the sentiments that its too early for doom and gloom, I do think it takes alot of cool aid drinking to beleive that this is a playoff team or even headed in the right direction.
Remember when people were saying Gholston would get 8-10 sacks this year? Apparently he had played like 45 plays this season until he got his first TACKLE, last night.
Gholston is a work in progress smizz and actually appeared to show improvement last night he didnt look lost and confused applied some pressure and dropped into coverage decently
Don’t get too excited over the WRs numbers…they came when SD was playing soft and 90% of them were underneath throws, LC’s lack of effort on the Cromartie pick and run-back was discraceful, but afer all, it was interference to begin with…the real discrace of the running game is that Leon had an awesome camp and they are not getting him into the mix…he is a playmaker and he needs carries and more passing plays, 1 carry last night is flat out poor game planning…that would help the abismal 3rd down efficiency we had…Devito, Puoha and Ellis in the middle looked awful (enough said)…don’t get down on Lowery, the TD pass in the corner was played extremely well, that was just an awesome throw dropped right in over the top, he actually missed breaking ti up by a inch…there has to be a better answer than Eric Smith…overall, this team is taking steps backwards…Favre and the receivers are making more and more mistakes as time goes on, as opposed to improving…last night also confirmed that big WRs and speedy WRs are the answer to a good passing game, not smaller slower guys that can’t stretch the field. We may have a QB with a cannon, but what good is it unless we have WR who can get downfield? I never thought I would say this, but we need Clowney back, just so we can take some shots …last night was sickening!
Without Jenkins we are doomed! Pouha was getting blown back almost every play!
Is it just me or does Thomas Jones take as many steps sideways as foward? To much dancing to the hole!
As I mentioned after the first pre-season game watching Gholston live- he has no exlosiveness! I don’t care if he is learning- he looks like he is just going through the motions- not impressed!
Sorry to be so negative- but I’m just fustrated as I know you are.
WHATS JENKINS STATUS?? CAN SOMEONE PLEASE UPDATE US ON HIS STATUS. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THE JETS ARE NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS WITHOUT HIM? I DON’T CARE ABOUT LAST NIGHTS GAME. I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT JENKINS
j-e-t-s SUCK SUCK SUCK!
The Jets fold faster than Superman on laundry day in any big game
Smizz, I can remember being told I wasn’t a Jets fan because I wanted to “take the under”.
Gholston’s right on course. It was good to see him get involved against a decent team. He also had one hit on Phillip Rivers, which may have led the team.
We thought they would be 1-2 BEFORE BRETT FAVRE. With Favre we all thought there was a chance of going 3-0, maybe 2-1. The coaching staff has turned this team into a joke. MANGINI MUST GO!!!
