Buzz: Kris Jenkins to Play Sunday

Word on the street is that Defensive Tackle Kris Jenkins is going to be able to play Sunday versus the Arizona Cardinals. Jenkins ability to play is good news for the Jets, because stopping the run and creating pressure quickly up the middle will be key to throwing Warner off his excellent passing rhythm.

  1. From the AP – Arizona Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin tweaked his hamstring during practice Friday. The injury is considered minor and he is listed as probable for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

  2. Sweet! We’ve got the Big Man to clog the middle with the double-team, now ex-Cardinal, Calvin Pace, can take it to the edge!!!

I’m not worried about the AZ ground game (Pathetic); yet, I am worried about ours. We’ll need it to run out the clock.

Of course, I’m very, very aftraid of Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. But, I’m hoping Jets offense and special teams can take an early lead, forcing Whisenhunt will have to abandon the run for the pass.

This way, Jets Defense can stack the deck. Last thing we need is for Ol’ Man Warner to get comfortable.

Nothing helps Sacks, INT’s like a lopsided score, a ticking clock, and a few Sacks, INT’s (in our favor).

    – Run Thomas Run!

  3. NO BIG DEAL:

PLay the 4-3. Then build on a VERY strong defense !!
    That’s easy isn’t it?

  4. “Jenkins ability to play is good news for the Jets”

    That’s an understatement.

    Stay healthy big man!

  5. Just wondering if the JETS signed any more DBs, kickers or QBs to their roster.

  6. Ed-Thanks for filling in when I get busy.
I am sure their trying but only if they are on a Practice squad so we have to keep them for 3 weeks and cut a real ball player.

  7. You’ve heard of the nickel an the dime-well, we are going to play the fifty cents—-10 DB’s (at a nickel each) and one DL. It’s brilliant!!!

  8. hEY PrEd(itor):

GIVE IT UP AND PREY ON ANOTHER TEAM !!!

  9. Hey PrEd(itor):

Give it up and PREY on another team !!!

  10. I want to see the JETS have success on the field, but 10 DBs and 4 kickers??? And no spirit on either side of the ball. I am sorry, but MANGINI MUST GO!!!

  11. I DON”T THINK ITS A GOO IDEA !! HERE”S WHY….

Jenk has a history of injuries and overweight. So. Let him rest ’till he is ready to come back 100%.

We should play 4-3 and TURN VERNON LOOSE ALL GAME !!

  12. hey hankie,
dont play the 4-3 all game. let the jets defense play their 3-4 scheme for one quarter then switch to 4-3 and let vernon gholston crush whatever side he is on in order to apply initial pressure. i am confident just as you are with revis and lowry’s play against their top recievers. its going to come down to the trenches..not whether favre out plays warner since we have similar teams. i expect pace and thomas for each to get a sack…and stuckey to get another touchdown to this game.
    –geraldine! :)

  13. this guy was the most valuable acquisition of the offseason- and it can be proven by the difference in effectiveness of our run defense against SD

I dont want to have to even IMAGINE our defense without him again

  14. and hank, c’mon man

  15. THANK GOD….or whoever/whatever you believe in!!!

  16. hey fonzie,so far GHOLSTON hasnt proved he can crush an empty BEER CAN!!??

  17. what are ALL you HATERS gonna say when we WIN this sunday!!?? that being said…THIS is a MUST WIN GAME for us….J!E!T!S JETS! JETS!! JETS!!!

  18. before we can bash mangini, sutton, or schott, the team must execute on an even keel, on both sides of the ball, they have not done so as yet, too many missed opportunities, and the injury to Jenkins proved devastating, a good back up to him appears paramount. while it still may come down to game planning/ play calling the players must first execute, even while the best teams have lapses in individual performance, for what ever reason, there’s a tipping point to where it becomes a factor in the out come, call it what ever you like gelling, getting on the same page, on a whole the team must first execute.

  19. yea this is good news…accept it wont matter if we play sissy ball and get knocked around like we have the past 2 games…i guess our whole year only was about beating miami in the opener…cuz i haven’t seen that defense since the end of the 3rd quarter in that game…
it seems the defense i’ve seen play since then is the defense that allowed cpenn almost come back and beat us…the high school QB and rivers have allday to pick us apart…where is that defense that shut down miami for 3 quarters…anyway, just my thoughts…

  20. We didn’t get knocked around by the Pats. You all want the sky to fall. What drugs were any of us on to think a former 4-12 team could beat the Chargers. GET SOME GRIT SOME OF YOU! or prove Peter King right. It’s week 4 you Nancys.

  21. Am I the only one who sometimes thinks this blog should require a breathalyzer?

  22. kc,

You are expecting Gholston to make miracles. What I am trying to say is that his comfort zone has always been on the line so just for one game the jets coaching staff should give him that chance to show his greatness instead of slowing down the pass rush of this team. There are different ways to rush the quarterback and Mangini knows that Jenkins isnt 100 percent yet. If i was Mangini I would split the reps in the middle between Mosley, Pouha, and Jenkins in the 4-3 and then use Ellis outside and rotate him with Coleman while Gholston takes the snaps on the other side with Thomas rotating in. This will allow Gholston to use his bull rush and his quick first step. In the middle will be harris and to the other sides will be Barton and Pace repsectively. The rotation system is perfect for this game because it force Warner to key on his tight ends and runningbacks during game which will be covered by Barton and Pace who doesnt have rush in on running plays and drop back into coverage something Kurt Warner mentioned when he was interviewed earlier this week. We will play the same defense like 2004 when we beat them in Arizona. This game is all about pressuring Kurt Warner so that the offense can run the ball down their throats since their nose tackle is hurting and their star defensive end is hurting with a groin injury.

  23. i clearly remember the paties running and screening us to death while our soft defense didn’t and couldn’t stop them at all…and if you dont concider what SD did to us as knock us around then your on drugs and flooting on cloud 9…and you need to stop being greedy and pass that ****e…

  24. dakar
Our defense played well against the Pats. It was feild position that beat us. Based on feild position the Jets should have been blown out that game.

    kc
Gholston played defensive end in a 4-3 defense. Mangini and company are trying to make him a outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense.

  25. Fonzie
You are right. When Jenkins went out last week I expecting the Jets to start playing the 4-3. Mangini and company need to make adjustments during the game. Bottom line I think the Jets would have more sucess playing the 4-3. We’re asking Jenkins to play nose tackle in the 3-4 when he came from a 4-3 defense. Before the season began it was a concern if he would hold up. We’re asking Gholston to play outside linebacker in the 3-4 when he was a defensive end in the 4-3. Mangini try being a little flexable.

And on offensive I wold say the same. Chad is gone. We have Farve now. Use him and exploit his strengths. Can anyone on the Jets coaching staff say slant pattern.

  26. Gholston would never have been drafted that high to play end in a 4-3. He’s really too small for the position at the NFL level. Though, they can mix in some 4-3 looks here and there, the Jets are finally built to play 3-4 and would fare poorly playing 4-3 consistently with the personnel they have.

It was understood that VG’s conversion to 3-4 LB would be where his NFL upside was. And that it would be a project. I think they’ve had him on the field too much, if anything. I’d rather not see him out there on anything but 3rd and longs at this point.

  27. subwayfare
It may be better to mix in some 4-3 looks than playing 4-3 consistently. But when Jenkins was out of the game last week the Jets stuck with the 3-4. I think this was a mistake.

  28. hey fonzie, Im not expecting MIRACLES,but i AM expecting a LITTLE more than ONE TACKLE in THREE GAMES! thats NOT including the FOUR preseason games where he probably had the SAME statistics.

  29. Favre has already commented how fast our fan base loses faith. Is that what you all want to be known for? We argued all summer about this team because we love this team. I still believe and I hate our QB situation. We have issues. Ever team does, but until we are matihmatically eliminated from the playoffs this team is going to the superbowl. Can we try to enjoy it while we have the 16 weeks to watch them? Sheesh go Jets!
