Time to End the Coles-Favre Chemistry Articles

“I’ve had people ask me, ‘Are you and Laveranues OK?’ I don’t know where there was ever a problem. Our communication has been great from day one.” — Brett Favre
Here’s my impassioned plea to the press. I know it’s an easy story, I know you just need to add in a few new quotes, but it’s now been over two months, can we please stop asking whether Coles and Favre are on the same page and talk football?
Other than some side sessions and two days of practice at camp where they could really work together, Favre has now had six weeks of practice with Coles. Due to their weekly meetings (along with the rest of the QBs & WRs instituted by Favre) the two have learned the nuances and tendencies of each other. As noted in today’s papers, on Coles fade route touchdown, Favre asked Coles what route would beat Antonio Cromartie and it clearly worked. There’s clearly not a chemistry issue on the field. Favre and Coles have a combined stat line of 18 catches, 257 yards and 4 TDs and 14.3 YPC … team highs in every category. Is there room for improvement? Always, but Coles is averaging over two yards more per catch this season, and is already 2/3s of the total number of TDs he’s had in the past two seasons (6TDs in 2006 & 2007).
As far as off the field? Coles silence made people think the worst, but the likelihood was that he was wisely trying to avoid saying the wrong thing in haste … it had nothing to do with Favre the person, but probably more about the way the organization handled the situation … hell Mangini didn’t even tell his friend Ben Graham he was fired the first time, they just yanked his jersey from his locker. Favre made clear his sincerity in working with Coles and how he sympathized with Coles due to the Wide Receiver’s loyalty to Chad shortly after his arrival. Since then, they’ve been talking a lot, learning to work together, and it’s paying off.
Since then, Favre is inserting himself into the press pool, mocking Coles by asking him questions about catching passes from Favre, and yesterday Coles did a little stand-up act about his new QB (in his best Jerry Seinfeld voice) “… and what’s the deal with the constant three day stubble?” Favre responded with an airhorn to clear the press. There’s not an issue with these two, time to move on and find other stories to cover.

You are asking the NY sports media covering the Jets to report on actual football. To use journalist skills and expertise to ferret out real stories of interest and information. To have nurtured confidential “informers” to give them the inside skinny on anything. Surely you jest.
Why should they report on:
• a comparison of hits that do not lead to suspensions and those that do
• the challenges or limitations that have stopped Elam, Barrett, et. al from taking the S job from Smith who stinks
• What skills and talents S requires in the Mangini defense and why they have been able to fill the position in three years
• What the OL feel about the failure of the run game to work effectively.
when they can just run with the same, shop worn, easy to spew story.

The media manufactured this supposed rift between Favre and Coles and now can’t stop spouting about how they are getting along. Well, I guess you have to write something or there would be no newspaper or fodder for tiresome talk radio.
i expect them to be a deadly combo for the rest of the season.
They could definitely become a “special” duo. It sure would be nice to see.
THE PAPERS OF TODAY ARE SO MUCH LIKE THE STAR MAGAZINES OF TODAY. THERE ARE A FEW STORIES THAT ARE REAL OUT THERE. THE REST IS JUST DRAMA. MADE UP DRAMA AND VERY FICTIONAL. I RARELY BUY A PAPER. USUALLY I GET IT AT THE OFFICE FROM SOMEONE ELSE. THE REAL SPORTSFAN KNOWS THAT THERE IS NO CRYING IN SPORTS. THE FAN BUYS THE TICKETS. THE MONEY GOES TO THE BOSS ANE THE PLAYER MUST PLAYS AND PERFORM. THE BEST FOOTBAL DAY IS SUNDAY. NOT ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.
FINALLY!!!
