Calvin Pace’s Not Concerned About His ‘Boo-Boo’

While the Raiders look to be without DE Derrick Burgess this Sunday, Calvin Pace one of the Jets’ pass-rushers was listed on the injury report, but expects to play this weekend for the Jets at Oakland.

Calvin Pace was listed  … with a jammed toe, but expects to play … “I don’t even want to call it an injury,” Pace said. “It’s a boo-boo.”

Pace, third on the team with 25 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks, jammed the big toe on one of his feet when he landed awkwardly in practice Thursday. He wouldn’t reveal which toe was injured, saying, “I can’t let that out. Got to keep them guessing.”

Pace said it was still a bit stiff Friday, but wasn’t concerned.

“It’s just one of those things where I kind of stayed off it a little bit today and gave it a little rest,” he said. “I’ll be fine.”

Pace showed no visible signs of the injury, walking without a limp on the field and in the locker room, and said it didn’t bother him much during practice. He said the toe wasn’t swollen and X-rays weren’t needed.

“It’s like jamming a finger,” Pace said. “You can’t really do too much for it. It’s going to be sore. Hopefully nobody steps on my toe, though. That’s the biggest thing.”

Hmm … might not be the smartest thing to mention what wouldn’t feel good in public to listening ears.  But the fact that he’s playing is good news for the front seven.  Pace has been a big part of this Extreme Makeover: Defense Edition this season and we need his play to pressure the QB and set the edge on running plays against this great Oakland backfield.

  1. this guy is well worth the money , and all those experts criticsized us for giving him that much money , well what now you so called experts, this guy is playing at a probowl level , and in time these groups of LB will be called the best ever , if VG can get his act together , he cant afford to take his time , now that BT is back to being his former 2006 self , so VG better get moving which i know he will , unlike some of you other guys who were about to commit suicide when the raiders took Mcfadden , i would perfer any of these guys , cuz they both will be stars one day

  2. Agreed, signing Pace was brilliant. The more we know about him and the more we see him play, the more we like him. Its been a while since we’ve had a linebacker who can shed a block and make a tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Not only can Pace do that, but he can rush the QB and drop into coverage. Great signing Tangini!

  3. he is also tearing it up in Fantasy Football.

  4. I loved it when we picked him up, more so after I read his first interview about finding his niche last year as OLB and loving to rush the edge. Was a bit nervous about his lateral (lack of) preasure and spin moves, but still felt he would be a huge addition to our sack total and stout defense.
A permanent piece to our future SUPER BOWL defense……. Mark my words, VG will not be far behind.

  5. PS……… THANKS DAVID HARRIS !!!!!

  6. Definitely agreed, alot of these so-called experts were skeptical about Calvin Pace and the contract he recieved from the Jets.

Although I didn’t know much of Calvin Pace’s style of play I was sure that he would be an impact player. The reason I was so sure of that is because Bill Parcells was going after the guy, and we all know we can trust Parcells judgement involving players, esp. 3-4.

Also want to note, If the Dolphins picked him up, it would have been ANOTHER GREAT MOVE by Bill Parcells, but because the Jets picked him up, experts are skeptical.

  7. Anyways, looking forward to tommorrows game, I am very excited but also very cautious. I am glad to hear that the Jets are not taking the Raiders lightly as they have played better than what their record shows.

The keys to the game is the same as every other game…

1.) Stop the Run, these Raiders have a legitamit 3 headed running back corps and must be respected.

2.) 1st quarter all out attack on QB JaMarcus Russell. He doesn’t have confidence going for him right now, and hopefully we can keep it that way from the start of the game. We need hit him often and early and have him afraid to step up in the pocket.

3.) Establish a running game before attemping to air it out with Brett. Shotty is a decent signal caller, but make no mistake, he has commitment issues with the run game.

  8. The monster contract, which makes Pace one of the highest paid linebackers in NFL history, will pay out $26 million in its first three years. Looking forward to his performance, though I don’t know much about him. Cool widgets at statbeast.

  9. The Jets will be crushed by a NATION

  10. That NATION you speak of is led by an unqualified figure head while a senile mad man furiously pulls the strings behind the scenes . . . sort of like this white house

  11. The writer in the charlotte observer is picking the JETS to win by 40 points. I hope he is right!
