There’s no better way to describe that game other than that was an abortion.
I still can’t get Favre hucking a terrible pass downfield on third down to no Jets receiver in particular. Here’s a tip Brett:

The Raiders gave the Jets every chance to win the game … over 200 yards on the ground … 17 penalties … a second shot at a game-tieing field goal?!?!
There’s no reason the Jets should have had to fight back and tie the game and go to overtime. But it was the turnovers were the difference for the Jets … two by Brett Favre and one by Leon Washington on a punt muff. Add in the fake punt (which I called when I saw it was a 4th and 2) which was like another one and there was no way that a disshevelled Jets team should have won that game.
The Jets defense allowed 140 yards on the ground and 200 in the air … during which time they allowed only sixteen points in an overtime game. There wasn’t great pressure by the Jets, but defense is not where the blame lays today.
Bottom line? The magic number now stands at four more losses. Unless the Patriots win tomorrow, there’s no divisional second place team in the AFC that has four wins so far, so that’s good for the Jets. But with New England, the Bills twice and the Broncos and Titans still on the schedule, there’s a lot of growth this team needs to show us to prove that they’re as good as they think they are.

The defense had 1 sack and forced ZERO turnovers. They let Russell look adequate at QB. So yes, some blame lies at their feet as well.

Mangini got outcoached again, and the offense was horrible. 13 points against the Raiders is horrendous. Mangini has been cruising by because he had a good first season with the Jets. Since then it seems that the team is no longer responding to him. This is very frustrating.
this one hurt fellas offense horibble(except for jones) j-co had like one catch and GOD DAMN CHRIS BAKER SLIPPED. all that talking for more money and he aint show up when it counts most

The offense is very frustrating to watch it is soo inconsistent. It felt like first half was all throwing and the second half was all running. The off line didnt help farve much either.
Also i know dick enberg has been around a long time and he’s a great announcer, but i honestly believe he can’t see the players anymore.
chris baker looked like a nine year old playing flag football, catch the ball and the story is brett got us there when it counted, feely is he new kicker and the beat goes on, now its doomsday, truth is every week in this league is a struggle unless you have a huge team wich we dont, and i thnk its time for mangini to show hes more then just a an adequate coach. figure something out eric!
It’s really frustrating, because our D has been solid all season, it just ends up getting tired because of our crappy O. We are so inconsistent, especially passing- one week 6 TDs, this week 0. If I have to blame someone, it’d be Mangini and Schottenheimer. 3 running plays in a row? The first went for 10 yards, the second for 5. Don’t you think they’d be expecting the run? of course not, you run again and lose a couple of yards. Naturally Oakland’s defense just set up against the pass and prevented us from getting the first down. It’s things like that, too conservative and not mixing it up enough- all day, all season. I’m not calling from Mangini’s job, but he really needs to look assess what works with his personnel. I get the feeling that the Jets as a whole need to wake up.
Though, I might not have been saying that if Baker hadn’t fallen on that play……..and that 57 yarder………it’s because the Jets rarely have any luck that we should be working that much harder.
Favre didn’t look right. Maybe his shoulder was hurt from last week but, if not, those hits he took in the 1st quarter stung him. Seemed like that threw the game plan out the window. He didn’t seem to want to throw. Though the run blocking was the best it’s been all year, the pass blocking was very inconsistent, particularly Woody, who had a horrible game.
The D doesn’t totally get off the hook, either. Lowery was exposed some and the blitzes were a step slow and late all game. And right from the start the Raiders just seemed to hit the line of scrimmage harder, faster and want it more.
The rhodes blitz before the game winning FG was terrible and he knocked our LB off stride to allow the catch by the TE. So the D didn’t come up big when they should have and cost us the game. I still say this coaching staff other than Westhof is worthless.

The Jets didnt play good enough to win, especially on offense, but this team still cant catch a break. How does Chris Baker fall to the ground on a play that would have ended the game?
How does Janikowski hit a career best and Raiders record 57 yarder?
Is it just me or did Dustin Keller jump way too early on that play in OT that was almost picked off? It seemed to me Favre lobbed it a pinch too far but he still put it right in Kellers reach, it looked like Keller should have kept runnning and he would have made the catch.
Kerry Rhodes made a huge mistake on Oaklands game winning drive in OT, you cant blitz from 13 yards deep, and cut off your teammate in coverage.
-Seems like rhodes acts like too much of a superstar instead of making plays like a superstar.
Why do we never blitz???? I dont think the jets blitzed once except for on Oaklands last play before the FG. It is pathetic to watch.
When the ground game works the jets stick with it for too long, whenever jones gained yardage the jets would keep giving it back to him regardless of how many guys oakland had in the box. SWITCH IT UP SHOTTENHEIMER!!!
overall i couldnt be more disapointed, this was apthetic and embarassing.
Two great weeks for Baker: the whiff on the block leading to the blindside hit on Favre that went for a TD against Cincinnati, and a slip while wide open on what would have been the game winning catch this week.

*sigh* Well, honestly you really can’t complain too much despite the offense having an off day and the defense being great and then horrible at times, the Jets did keep up until the end and a lot of the credit needs to go to both kicker who both did great of course we also have to thank Cable for calling the timeout and giving Jay a practice kick. Still depsite 3-3 many aspects of the team are looking much better than this time last year and that is key improvement.
Sorry , but blaming turnonvers as you do and Mangini did after the game, is the easy way out. WHERE THE HELL WAS THE PASSING GAME? ZERO YARDS for Cotchery? 50 yards for Coles? 5 catches by Baker, 4 on the first drive. Pass blocking AWFUL. Woodie beaten like a dog at least twice for sacks. Alan Faneca bull rushed into the backfield. We finally found a running game and nothing out of the passing game. Losing to that sandlot football was disgraceful. I haven’t been this angry at a game in Oakland since Heidi.
Brett definitely looked hurt… Every throw was short and lobbed… his balls didnt have any zip on them at all…
The game plan looked to be designed for him to throw a ton of short nothing passes… The fact that they went with the 5 wide formation displayed that… Without a super super Oline that formation results in short nothing passes…..
As a gambler… I also think the line didnt move at all this week, even though the jets were getting pounded, was because insiders knew that Farve was hurt.

You have to give some credit to the Raiders, they tightened up in the secondary, and made it much harder to pass. Still you just dont throw passes into the open field on an awaiting defender. Both Oakland corners played lights out today, and remember Cotchery did leave the game for quite a bit of time.
Im still confused as to why we have Baker running deep crossing routes at TE, isnt that why we got Keller??
I believe that with the way the run game was going, if you threw in a flea flicker to thay defense that would have totally caught them offguard and lead us to a win.
Great game by Jones though, I mean he had around 100yds on 10 carries.

First off this years jet team has no heart. We spent a boat load of money on free agents and traded for farve. Our offense still stinks minus the 6 tds against arizona and the defense cannot stop the pass. I blame all this on the terrible coaching of eric mangini. Think about it the team he took to the playoffs was herms with a easy schedule. This man has no clue how to run a team and it is clear by the deer in headlights look he has on the sideline. Well we all ran chad out of town and he seems to be doing pretty well ( 260 yds a game average) so that leads me to think the system was bad not chad. Basically what I am saying is its gonna be another long season and many more to come unless the front office makes some changes on the sideline.
It’s games like this that make me wonder why it’s worth watching NFL games. It’s anmzaing how often “decent” teams lose to teams that have no right playing NFL teams. Is it too much to ask an NFL team to show up for 16 games a year? Guess that extra day out West isn’t working. Maybe we should just concede any west coast games, and at least save the air fare $.
Faneca looks like the worst free agent pick up this year. Looks like he is overmatched at times. Running game was great, but once again Schott has no rythym to his play calling. Mangini has all of the tools, his teams constantly play to the level of their competition, a sign of a inconsistent, poorly gameplaned team.
Shottenheimer has got to go hes a total idiot… every set its either passing every play or running everyplay…is there ever a point in the game where you werent positive about hat the jets were going to do? as for the passing game you have to be dissapointed but i dont think its such a big deal they have a great secondary. We could not convert on third downs at all which was pathetic. Its pretty hard to loose a game where you run for over 200 yards and get a million penalties…and then when you finally do loose it your given a second chance (the timeout). DAM THEM!!!! we fans invest way too much time and money in these over hyped idiots.
Oh, and as a Jet fan we should know better than to look at the schedule to predict wins/losses. This team is average at best, so I would not say that anyone is a pushover, KC will give us a game, just wait and see.

I have to agree with many here, the O-Line has been a big disappointment. Way too inconsistent. Although even when Favre had time today, he didn’t do much better.

I agree with all of you who said the coaching staff was horrible. We have the players but, the coaches stink. We played a team that wanted to give us the game and we could not take it. The defense sits back on third downs, at all times. The offensive play-calling is embarassing. Mangini and his whole staff must go!
The offense seems to only be able to do one thing well per game. I do think the Oakland corners are a bad matchup for the Jets receivers, though. This is one game where the Jets lack of a true speed receiver really hurt them. If they had to worry about someone getting behind them it would have kept the Raider CBs from constantly pressing our smallish WR’s at the line of scrimmage and disrupting routes.
Favre is old and still does not know the offense! Tanny is an imbecile . Mangini is a lot of man with no gini and you fools ..who follow this thing that you call a Team…you get what you deserve. Enjoy!!

I hate to burst any bubbles of those who think the Jets still have a shot this year. Even if the Jets had won this pathetic excuse for a game, I would still be disgusted. They are such a disappointment. The blame lies on the entire team. When the defense needs to do a job, it doesn’t, and when the offense needs to do a job, it doesn’t. It has become so predictable that it’s sad. The Jets can never win that key game against a crap team. And honestly, take away the Arizona game and what has this season been. It has been no better than what it was with Chad. They are still dinking and dunking. Favre is an INT machine. We have no tall, playmaking receivers. Thomas Jones is undersized, and pretty much blows…I don’t care what useless numbers he put up today. The only bright spots on this team are Leon Washington, Darrelle Revis, Calvin Pace. And the coaching…I needn’t say anything about the coaching, or lack thereof. I’m sick and tired of this losing culture. I can always count on the Jets to ruin a good Sunday.

There’s still a path to 10-6, which would likely get us a Wild Card, but if we have any hope for the division, we need to sweep Buffalo. Not looking likely with the team we have now.

This team is a huge mess. Why do we never use Dustin Keller but we use Chris Baker who is sooo sooo slow and never does anything good? Why use a first round pick on a guy that you will never use. Also does Gholston ever do anything? We run good so we overuse it without ever using a playaction. Was I the only one that thought a playaction pass down the field would have been successful?
I thought the play action would have been a great play…. but as I said before it didn’t look like Farve could throw downfield at all. I can’t believe that barely anybody else noticed how weak and Pennington-like his passes were today.
The same way the Jets play down to their competition they usually manage to play up to good competition.
They should be able to split with Buffalo… I will be at both games…
They could still very realistically go 10-6… If they get their stuff together maybe even 11-5… Nobody they will play really scares me… Tennessee will not go undefeated…. The coaching sucks! How come every team has their best game against us? I am really upset that mangini didn’t challenge the coles catch around the 3:00 marker in the 4th quarter. it looked like a catch, the tv guys even thought so. he was injured on the play so he had plenty of time to see it. but he didnt. caused 2nd and 10, favre gets sacked cause coles isnt in on the field- due to the inury timeout, so the focus is on cothcery, cant get open, favre sacked. 3rd and 10, raiders bring the pressure and favre chucks it up to the raiders. just pathetic. If the coach challenged that play, should of won it, its a whole different story in my mind! Also their was no reason to be throwing he ball on first down their because our running game was on fire and their was plenty of time.
Horrible that cotchery slipped in the end zone that caused the favre interception in the end zone, really cant blame favre for that one. They totally took our best weapon out of the game, leon washington never got a chance to give us good field position. U know our O-line looked pathetic in protecting favre and that was against an average, below average team that was missing their best pass rusher in DE Derrick Burgess.
Someone mentioned before that alan faneca looks like a waste, and i can’t disagree. Mangold and ferguson looked pretty good their first year having kendall inbetween them. Just imagine how good they would be now if they had the same guard inbetween them now going onto the 3rd year! Kendall is still a starter i believe, still plays solid and is a lot cheaper than faneca -that hasnt shown me much.
I am really losing faith in this move to get favre! He hasnt showed me anything too good besides that arizona game. Every now and then i see a glimmer of spectacular, but its not consistant enough. Dont know if he just isn’t familiar with everyone yet, or if once again our offensive coordinator and the players around it just cant execute things properly. Whatever the case, with some tougher games coming up soon, and we cant win our easier games, im losing faith in making the playoffs and favre coming back. if he doesnt come back, its just another setback for our team in trying to find QB for the future that will probably have some struggles in his first full year of starting!
i was being sarcastic…. point i was making is that if your going to look at the schedual and assume we win the games against san francisco and seatle and take 2 from the bills …you could look at those games and just as easily count them as a loss….i obviously am not worried about a draft pick just letting you know not to get your hopes up.
