Herm Edwards announced that Tyler Thigpen will be the starting Quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend when they come to the Meadowlands. Thigpen will start because Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle are both injured. Thigpen has started two games this season and lost both of those games to Atlanta and Oakland. Thigpen was seventh-round pick by the Vikings two years ago, and was acquired by the Chiefs via waivers last September. So far this season, Thigpen has completed 38-90 passes for 392 yards, 2TDs & 4 INT, with a passer passer rating of 44.3.

44.3. Jeez. As much as I hate demanding a blowout, if we can’t win this game without issue, we’re cooked.
-
if we don’t win this game, namath definitely sold his soul to the devil, and cursed the jets for eternity.
-
Is this bad, or is it normal to fear the wrath that Tyler Thigpen might rage on the Jets? I’m not sure anymore.
-
I’ll pick him up and start him on my fantasy team; that’s the real kiss of death…he’ll get -5.
-
If we lose this one mangini must go
-
I also heard that Herm may keep Larry Johnson on the bench this week for his extracurricular activities.

44.3 versus 48.7
With these two gunslingers, it should be a real shootout.
-
Let’s see if the brilliant coaching staff can screw up this opportunity. There’s a 50/50 shot he’ll end up looking like Brady before the end of the game. I guess that’ll be favre’s fault as well.

Ratliff time?
just joking.

A little food for thought…
Last night, after watching the Patriots game, I kind of came to a theory. Matt Cassell looked pretty good against the Denver Broncos. So I went and looked up his statistics:
Completions: 18
Attempts: 24
Comp PCT: 75%
Total Yards: 185
TDs: 3
QB Rating : 136.3Aside from total yards, those are pretty damn good numbers. But then I thought to myself, “Self, I thought Matt Cassel sucked.” So I went and looked at his Stats for the year:
Comp: 110
Attempts: 166
Comp Percentage: 66.3%
Total Yards: -
Total Yards: 1095
TDs: 6
Qb Rating: 86.8Looking at those Stats, they are not HOF QB stats but they are a lot better than other Qbs in the league. And then I thought, “But Matt Cassel Suckes…” He was benched last year when the Pats where up by 30 points and he threw an INT.
And then, I realized, that they are playing to Matt Cassel’s strength. Belicheat decided not to be stubborn and use a Tom Brady playbook. Instead, he has READJUSTED his offensive strategy and philosophy and tailored made it to fit Matt Cassel. WOW, what a concept.
-
And then I realized that we have, hands down, a better Qb than Cassel. Who would you rather have on your team, Matty C or Brett Favre? I think most people would say Brett Favre.
Outside of the game last week against the Chargers, the Pats have looked pretty good. The thing that really irks me and rubs me the wrong way is that Belicheat made this adjustment during the season. How much attention do you think the coaching staff gave to Cassel in practice when Brady was at Qb. Sure, sure sure… He knows the playbook and all the other B.S. but come on. How have they adjusted better with Matt Cassel than the Jets have with Brett Favre?
To me, it just makes no sense. Who the hell is Matt Cassel and why the hell is he throwing 3 TDs in a game? It is kind of alarming that I dont think the Pats are even worried that Matty C is at Qb because they believe that they can contend with him and make a push into the play off. They probably will.
On paper our D is much better, talent wise. They get rid of Asante Samuels… It dosnt matter. Some one else will step in. Laurance Moroney and Lamaont Jordan get injured… Its ok, Sammy Morris will have a career game.
So what is the problem?

Thigpen can’t throw the ball with any accuracy. But he is highly mobile, so I suspect he’ll run for numerous first downs against the J-E-T-S. Overall, he’s been horrible – but he’s only played a total of about six quarters. Hopefully this isn’t the week he starts figuring it all out.

What’s the problem?ONE WORD
COACHING!!!!!
-
im giving mangini et al the rest of the season….the oakland loss was not coaching as ive said before, and clearly explained…so he either coaches well ands leads us to the playoffs or doesnt….if he doesnt and is fired….and everybody who’s on him, feel free to answer me…..WHO DO WE TURN TO NOW? WHO REPLACES HIM….SO WE START ALL OVER..AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN?
-
jim,
My opinion is not to fire him. The team clearly is not getting the job done on a consistent basis and often looks flat. Offensive philosophy is way too cute and defense tends to play conservative sometimes, tho they have not lost as a game yet this year.
My suggestion would be, if possible, to change a little bit. Admit that your style hasnt worked and figure out a new way. Its not too late and unless we can get Bill Cowher, I am not sure if i would rather have anyone else outside of Mangini. He needs to get more involved during the game. If you watch the game, he just stands on the side line and just over sees everything. Rarely do you see him speaking with his players or coaches or actually getting involved in the game.
If I were the coach of that game this Sunday, I would have been all over their a$$.. football is an emotional sport so you gota get with the program.
Its not too late to change and improve. Revaluate your strategy and realize that you are not Bill Bellicheck. Dont be afraid to yell at your Offensive or Defensive Coordinators when they F up. Start holding people accountable because he will be held accountable sooner or later for his job.

Jim and Najy-
Starting over is hard. If they keep Mangini for continuity they have to fire Shotty and Sutton. Whether they are any good or not doesn’t matter. The team doesn’t play well with them calling the schemes. Period.
Then we can see and not burn the whole house down again. -
jas,
Its definitely too late to do that this year. We should have thought about that before the season started. Now we just have to ride it out now and see where this takes us.
Next year is a different story if this doesnt work out. Mangini is a very smart coach and we should hold on to him. Take a look at Belicheats record and Mike Shannahons records in their first 3 years… the numbers are terrible. Mangini is here to stay. I am just not too sure of his surrounding cast. Depending on the outcome of this year, they may all need to be reevaluated.
-
Najy- I agree completely. When I say fire them I always mean after this season.
Sorry about the confusion. -

You answered you own question. We will lose if he is outplayed AGAIN by the opposing QB.
Let me ask you one question: How is the playcalling the CS fault when the playbook was dummied down for Farve and he is calling his calling/audible the plays?
-
hank/naples,
You have no proof of your claims. How do you know that they “dummied down the playbook? Or that he is audibling the plays?
Please fill me in because I have not heard anything about this. Unless you are just making an assumption.
-
they didn’t dummy anything down. He just asked to get the multiple shifts and extraneous crap out and go with a core book. The guy has played 15 years. he has seen every play there is.
and hank see my other post-you can’t just make up new plays because of the packages that are out there. it is very limited. The schemes and play calling reek of shotty. This is philosophy of the staff and they need to get more aggressive or we have no season left.
i agree with Najy-
And hank-i didn’t say that-what i said was this coaching staff (read mangini and sutton) can turn any QB into Brady (see russell). Oh that’s right favre plays defense as well. i forgot.

Cheers to anyone else concerned that Thigpen will light the JETS up!
