they didn't dummy anything down. He just asked to get the multiple shifts and extraneous crap out and go with a core book. The guy has played 15 years. he has seen every play there is.
and hank see my other post-you can't just make up new plays because of the packages that are out there. it is very limited. The schemes and play calling reek of shotty. This is philosophy of the staff and they need to get more aggressive or we have no season left.
i agree with Najy-
And hank-i didn't say that-what i said was this coaching staff (read mangini and sutton) can turn any QB into Brady (see russell). Oh that's right favre plays defense as well. i forgot.

hank/naples,

You have no proof of your claims. How do you know that they "dummied down the playbook? Or that he is audibling the plays?

Please fill me in because I have not heard anything about this. Unless you are just making an assumption.

Jas:

" Let’s see if the brilliant coaching staff can screw up this opportunity. There’s a 50/50 shot he’ll end up looking like Brady before the end of the game. I guess that’ll be favre’s fault as well.

You answered you own question. We will lose if he is outplayed AGAIN by the opposing QB.

Let me ask you one question: How is the playcalling the CS fault when the playbook was dummied down for Farve and he is calling his calling/audible the plays?

Najy- I agree completely. When I say fire them I always mean after this season.
Sorry about the confusion.

jas,

Its definitely too late to do that this year. We should have thought about that before the season started. Now we just have to ride it out now and see where this takes us.

Next year is a different story if this doesnt work out. Mangini is a very smart coach and we should hold on to him. Take a look at Belicheats record and Mike Shannahons records in their first 3 years... the numbers are terrible. Mangini is here to stay. I am just not too sure of his surrounding cast. Depending on the outcome of this year, they may all need to be reevaluated.

Jim and Najy-
Starting over is hard. If they keep Mangini for continuity they have to fire Shotty and Sutton. Whether they are any good or not doesn't matter. The team doesn't play well with them calling the schemes. Period.
Then we can see and not burn the whole house down again.

jim,

My opinion is not to fire him. The team clearly is not getting the job done on a consistent basis and often looks flat. Offensive philosophy is way too cute and defense tends to play conservative sometimes, tho they have not lost as a game yet this year.

My suggestion would be, if possible, to change a little bit. Admit that your style hasnt worked and figure out a new way. Its not too late and unless we can get Bill Cowher, I am not sure if i would rather have anyone else outside of Mangini. He needs to get more involved during the game. If you watch the game, he just stands on the side line and just over sees everything. Rarely do you see him speaking with his players or coaches or actually getting involved in the game.

If I were the coach of that game this Sunday, I would have been all over their a$$.. football is an emotional sport so you gota get with the program.

Its not too late to change and improve. Revaluate your strategy and realize that you are not Bill Bellicheck. Dont be afraid to yell at your Offensive or Defensive Coordinators when they F up. Start holding people accountable because he will be held accountable sooner or later for his job.

im giving mangini et al the rest of the season....the oakland loss was not coaching as ive said before, and clearly explained...so he either coaches well ands leads us to the playoffs or doesnt....if he doesnt and is fired....and everybody who's on him, feel free to answer me.....WHO DO WE TURN TO NOW? WHO REPLACES HIM....SO WE START ALL OVER..AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN?

Thigpen can't throw the ball with any accuracy. But he is highly mobile, so I suspect he'll run for numerous first downs against the J-E-T-S. Overall, he's been horrible - but he's only played a total of about six quarters. Hopefully this isn't the week he starts figuring it all out.
