Greetings From Thee Pressbox

by Bassett on October 26th, 2008 at 12:31 pm

Greetings!  I am currently sitting very high at the Meadowlands and will be live blogging the game as things come up.  Check here for updates as things occur to me, but for the full story I’ll write something in the next day or two.

3:58 — Coles catches an eye of the needle pass to Coles. Who corrals the ball right in the corner of the end zone with one hand while using his other to keep thedefender at bay.  What a catch.  Still a minute left … anyone’s game.  JETS 28 – CHIEFS 243:56 — Tamba Hali goes down after a run play.  Looks like he had a fake knee injury to stop momentum is the diagnosis.

3:55 — Keller straight ahead for a short pass and a quick gain.  Then the Jets get a first down to Cotchery.

3:53 — Two minute warning.  Who wants to see Feely back out there at this point?  Not me!

3:50 –Leon Washington is the only who wants to win this game I think.  Leon had a huge return and was rode down rodeo style by the kicker, but only after churning his feet another five yards.

3:49 — It’s deja vu all over again.  I keep wondering when the Jets offense is going to get it together, and they keep disappointing me.

3:36 — Favre makes yet another terrible decision and throws a pick to Brandon Flowers instead of Chansi Stuckey.  That’s Flowers second pick of the game and he takes it to the house NINETY ONE YARDS.  Shouldn’t Brandon Flowers be with his band?  Smile like you mean it … CHIEFS 24 – JETS 21

3:33 — Jets driving well.  Chansi Stuckey had a very nice effort play on a WR screen where he evaded some tackles and moved the chains for the Jets to put them into the Red Zone.

3:28 — Jones gets four yards and a first down.  R in CT tipped me off to this trend a few weeks back at the Zona game, but it seems that Jones has a real penchant for running into the back of his blocker.

3:24 — Darrelle Revis gets a NICE pass defensed against Dwayne Bowe. So far, Bowe has 5 catches for 87 yards.  I’d have to say that Revis is winning the matchup here so far.

3:11 — The Jets are driving the field well.  Thomas Jones ran a huge play to set up a red zone possession.  Favre almost handed the Chiefs a pick six.  The Jets keep their jumbo package (Hunter and Turner) and power it into the end zone.  JETS 21 – CHIEFS 17

3:07 — Talked to SNY’s Steve Overmyer at the half who interviewed Jason Schwartzman before the game.  Apparently Mr. Rushmore has become quite the mainstay at Jets games lately!!

3:05 — Revis breaks up a big third and one on pass to Dwayne Bowe.  Bad punt (maybe blocked?).  Big play by the Jets.  Can we take the momentum and please score now?

3:03 — Favre goes top shelf on third and one deep into double coverage.  Not really sure what that was about.  It might have been by design, but it didn’t look pretty.

3:01 — OK, 9:44 in the third quarter and the Jets are losing … WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2:55 — Sitting next to Rich Forrestano from Jets Insider.  He was on Conan!!!  CHIEFS 17 – JETS 14

2:54 — Rhodes was taken off the field with help.  Not sure what’s ailing him, hope it’s nothing serious …

2:50 — Jets made a great challenge and get a play overturned gain the yards back.  In two plays the Chiefs move the ball basically back to where it was.  Jets fans are booing mightily.

2:40 — Stood in a long line for a hamburger … little on the dry side.

It’s HALFTIME and the team is honoring the Jets team that won the SuperBowl 40 years ago.  Finally, someone who the fans won’t boo!

2:28 — The Chiefs use the clock and the soft pass rush to their advantage and go 9 plays 74 yards in 1:44 seconds. Mark Bradley scores a TD after a booth review.  The crowd is SALTY booing lustily as the Jets are tied at the half.  JETS 14 – CHIEFS 14

2:25 — David Harris is in the locker room, not sure what’s ailing him … we’re in the Mangini cone of silence.  The Jets are hanging on for dear life.

2:17 — Talking with some of the guys in the box, they agree with me on the Jets Flight Crew “Granny Panties” thing … just don’t get it …

2:16 — Leon Washington rips a play right up the middle, going 60 yards for the score slicing the defense .. .seriously I’ve seen the play like four times and don’t know where the defense was.  The Jets need to focus on running the ball.  Favre is clearly going to keep chucking interceptions.  Take the ball out of his hands as much as they can, PLEASE! JETS 14 – CHIEFS 7

2:13 — The Jets are trying to drive, and having some success heading into the two minute warning.

2:07 — Dwight comes up with two big plays to stall the Chiefs drive.  One a pass defensed and the other a sure tackle on the sideline to prevent the first down.

2:03 — Another pass, another pick.  Yes, he was partially hit, but Favre clearly thinks he can make every throw.  Yes, Pennington had his faults, but at least he knows enough to throw the ball away every once in a while … and that was from a guy who has the highest completion percentage … at least the man knew his limits.

1:57 — Jets save their bacon with a 3rd down sack from the edge.  They schemed it interesting … both tackles Moseley and Bowens shaded the tackle to his right shoulder.  The protection broke down quickly on the edge and Drew Coleman got a tasty sack deep to get the Chiefs out of potential FG range.

1:54 — Thiggie completes a pass across the middle to Dwayne Bowe who uses the ump as a shield.  Eric Smith gets worked towards the sideline, completely missing a tackle on Bow who goes for 36 yards.

1:52 — David Harris shaken up on a running play.

1:48 — Jets can’t keep the drive going, but after a great 48 yard punt by Reggie Hodges, Ahmad Carroll caps it with a great tackle on the Chiefs returner.  Tack on a holding and the jets have pinned the Chiefs very deep.

1:43 — Not too surprising, Favre comes back out to the huddle after a good return by Leon Washington.

1:39 — Tony Gonzalez caps a short drive by the Chiefs on the short field to tie up the game.  Not clear yet who’s coming back into the game for the Jets …

1:35 — Favre got hit on a pass by Ron Edwards and throws a bad interception.  Not sure whether Favre will be back.  Clemens is warming up on the sidelines.

1:30 — Rhodes must be reading the paper, because he’s coming out with a vengeance today.  Hopefully thisgame is the shot in the arm to his normal swagger.

1:28 — Feely misses a 36 yard kick.  I’m telling you, for all the crying about Mike Nugent, he’s no Mike Nugent.  Can’t wait to get the Buckeye back into the game.

1:24 — Dustin Keller had a nice catch wide open in the middle of the field.  Nice look by Favre to find him all alone.

1:21 — Leon had a beautiful return, spring by an excellent block by Brad Smith.

1:19 — Defense is looking good so far.  They held the Jets, Rhodes had a tackle for loss and Shaun Ellis had a sack thanks to Kris Jenkins taking a double team in the middle of the field.

1:15 — Great coverage by Ahmad Carroll who cleaned up Wallace Wright’s sloppy seconds on the kick coverage.

1:14 — 10 play 73 yard drive for the Jets capped by a 18 yard touchdown pass to Leon Washington.  The Jets will be looking to Leon and their Tight Ends today as the Chiefs can’t defend them well in the passing game. JETS 7 – CHIEFS 0

1:12 — Jets are using Robert Turner as their extra TE instead of Wayne Hunter … interesting …

1:07 — Nothing special so far for the drive.  Coles dropped a wide open pass, but Cotch converted for their first third down.

1:02 — Jets inactives are pretty much you would expect.  No Clowney, which is not surprising with Coles and Cotch both good for the game.  Franks will not be playing today. So expect to see more T-Rich, Wayne Hunter and Dustin Keller. I know he wasn’t going to be playing, but when will Nugent be back?!

12:54 — Thomas Jones pulled some strings for his artist from his new record label.  Myko sang the national anthem.

12:45 — Jenn Sterger just interviewed the Mac guy … you know the kid who gets hits with wrenches in Dodgeball.  No sign of PC anywhere …

12:46PM — Just caught up with Jane McManus, Bob Glauber (who wrote about me ripping Boland) and Dan Leberfeld.   Can’t these Newsday guys take a good natured ribbing?  I only kid Boland because I know he can take it. I thought Newsday was the diva free paper!

  5. avatar DannyMazz says:

    I almost shyt a pancake!

  6. avatar Ethan says:

Come on dude, who cares about the game? Give us some press box updates, and keep ‘em coming.

  7. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

If anyone thinks this coaching staff is worth keeping based upon the KC game so far, please speak up???

Isay DUMP MANGINI!!! FIRE SCHOTT and SUTTON!!

  8. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

I am shocked that Clowney didn’t dress today. Another reason to DUMP MANGINI!!

  9. avatar hank/naplesh says:

    The PREd(itor):

I didnt’n know Mangini was capable of throwing INT’s from the sideline. You are a Genius !!!!

  10. avatar EastSideKahaluu says:

There’s a lot of reasons to dislike the coaching staff but I’m not sure your argument is the most logical, The Ed(itor). So far, the failure of this game is all on Favre; that interception is the difference.

  11. avatar jas says:

KC QB Tyler Brady is 10 for 10. Brett’s fault as well. Get brett off of the defense and let him just play QB.

  12. avatar hank/naplesh says:

    Hey PREd(itor)

Guess what? Mangini just threw ANOTHER INT !!!
FIRE THE WHOLE CS and let Farve take over the team. Beautiful !!!!

  13. avatar jet4lif says:

I agree with ESK. I dont know why people start hating the coaches so soon. This yr all of our losses are mostly due to Favre(SD/OAK/NE) and his trigger happy passes. Even when we run the ball well we lose the game due to Favre.

This game is resembling the one against OAK. It would be huge if we ESCAPE this one with a “W”.

  14. avatar EastSideKahaluu says:

    jas,
Tyler Brady-Manning scored off of the short field that Favre gift wrapped for him. Turnovers are momentum shifters and game breakers… Everyone knows that. It’s hard to say the breakdown of those two pivotal drives can be attributed entirely to the coaching staff.

  15. avatar seanmac31 says:

It’s nice to see that Vernon Gholston can’t beat out David Bowens. He hasn’t been on the field once this half.

  16. avatar jetssucks says:

    J-E-T-S !!!!!!! Sucks sucks sucks

  17. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

Great 1st half by JETS and their coaching staff.

    DUMP MANGINI!!!

  18. avatar James in TN says:

Halftime 14-14 We ARE the worst team in the NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. avatar Joe B. says:

This is embarrassing. Making Tyler Thigpen look like Jim effing Thorpe. What a debacle of a first half.

  20. avatar dsmizzle says:

I told you Thigpen would light ‘em up!

  21. avatar EastSideKahaluu says:

augh, I don’t want to find out what this team is like without Harris. Hopefully he makes it back on the field for the 2nd half.

  22. avatar James in TN says:

Where is TJ against the leagues worst run D????? Good Grief fire the whole bunch ,our coaches are crapola!!!!

  23. avatar eli says:

editor isnt the most intelligent person is he? Farves two pivks have nothing to do witth mangini.

p.s. Bassett, why are you bringing up Pennington. Hes not our qb, and no one didnt want farve so please spare us.

  24. avatar JA says:

how does mangini have a freakin job?!?!?!do the jets just hire any jackass who know belichik?!? he needs to be fired right now…literally….the jets have to come out at halftime with a new coach. they run the ball like girls with all this gay ass trick crap…they gotta be a power running team no more bull!!!!

  25. avatar jas says:

I thought the Game plan on Offense and Defense was excellent. We have them completely on their heels.

  26. avatar Joe B. says:

What a disgrace. Even if they come out in the second half and trounce the Chiefs, it won’t get this bitter taste out. This game should’ve been over after the first drive. From Feely to Favre to the lazy defense, this is an abomination.

  27. avatar Chrebookie says:

    umm right

  28. avatar jas says:

    tyler brady halftime-
    15-20 179 yards 2TDs no int

GET FAVRE OFF OF DEFENSE NOW!

  29. avatar DannyMazz says:

Please for the love of all things small –

REMOVE THE JETS FROM THE NFL!

THIS IS TORTURE – PLEASE PLEASE MAKE THE BLEEDING STOP!!!!!!

  30. avatar DannyMazz says:

Damn the Chiefs are taking it to the JETS -

  31. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

And all the JETS coaches should be canned!!! IMMEDIATELY!!!

  32. avatar DannyMazz says:

    GO Giants

  33. avatar jas says:

This Sutton guy is pretty sharp. KC is completely confused.

  34. avatar Joe B. says:

Great, now Kerry’s hurt. What else could go wrong?

  35. avatar DannyMazz says:

Id rather see Ratcliff all backups and mangini fired after this loss

  36. avatar jas says:

You guys need to quit complaining. Fonzie and Hank have convinced me these guys know what they are doing. I don’t complain about the coaching and game plans anymore.

  37. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

And for this lousy performance you are going to pay Woody a PSL fee and higher ticket prices????????
Anyone who does is a sucker!

    FIRE MANGINI!!

  38. avatar Steve K says:

    seanmac31-
Gholston and Bowens don’t even play the same position so i don’t know what you are gettin at. Gholston plays outside linebacker behind Bryan Thomas and Calvin Pace. David Bowens is playing middle linebacker right now. It is frustrating though that Gholston has contributed nothing all season so far though.

  39. avatar FireSchotty says:

can we fire schottenheimer yet since we dont attack a weakness … they give up 201 ypg on the ground and we let our interception machine throw it over and over … o and y is our pass d so god awful?

  40. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

I think the JETS Super Bowl team could beat the 2008 JETS today without any practice.

    DUMP MANGINI!!

  41. avatar FireSchotty says:

3rd and 1 we throw it to double coverage

  42. avatar FireSchotty says:

please fire this god awful playcaller its sickening!

  43. avatar hank/naplesh says:

    jas:

Again you show your convoluted logic !!! It is Mangini who is running the offense and throwing GAME CHANGING INT”S. Your football knowledge is immaculate.

  44. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Yea well Fonzie and Hank know more than Joe Namath, who just said from the booth that “the Jets don’t need a new QB they need to change their overall approach” THIS IS A JOKE THIS TEAM SUCKS , FAVRE DID THROW TWO BAD PASSES BUT THE GAMEPLAN AND PLAY CALLING SUCKS! I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE, I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING FROM FONZIE OR HANK, MANGINI IS TOO MUCH OF A FILM GEEK/ BALL BOY. GO COACH AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL

  45. avatar jas says:

    hank?
What was that. Too much koolaid i guess. you need to cut back.

AND-thank you Eddie i saw that as well.

  46. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

MANGINI is the head coach and he needs to be fired for this debacle!!

  47. avatar hank/naplesh says:

    Eddie DeGio:

Change their overall approach on what? You mean confuse Farve More?

  48. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

Interceptions happen. Poor coaching is not expected to happen. So keep on blaming Favre and not the idiots who are coaching (boy is that a stretch!) this team into mediocrity.

And you can tell from Namath’s comments that it isn’t Favre. It is the coaching.

When this team ends up 8-8 or worse, please tell me the coaches did a great job!

  49. avatar Steve K says:

    WTF WAS THAT??????????????

  50. avatar EastSideKahaluu says:

The lead singer of the Killers scored on an interception?!

  51. avatar Lafflin says:

Favre has 9 pics the last three games. This is the guy we traded Chad for?
Yes, it’s the coaches fault, it’s the front office’s fault….for signing Favre and dropping Chad.

  52. avatar jas says:

KC was expecting a run on that INT so Shotty outsmarted them and called a pass. Sutton has nothing on him. Fonzie and Hank convinced me. You guys need to stop complaining about the coaching.

  53. avatar Jay says:

    This is ridiculous…

  54. avatar swizzle81 says:

    Wow Favre is great today

  55. avatar jet4lif says:

We gonna have OverTime again today? Seems like it.

  56. avatar jetssucks says:

Been a jet fan since 1968, turning 50 and i can honestly say I am done being a fan of this pathetic franchise and you can add the mets also to that list.

  57. avatar Jesse says:

If you lose to Chiefs and Raiders…. Are you the worst team in the league?

  58. avatar swizzle81 says:

Schotty has to be the worst O-Coord. in the league, I guess it doesnt help when you have a washed up QB.

  59. avatar jas says:

    Tyler brady-
    before today 44%
    today 72%
    Get off of Sutton’s back.

  60. avatar jet4lif says:

Favre has been great all these yrs (in the mediocre NFC north). Welcome to AFC Brett.

  61. avatar Roger Vick says:

    Hey, The Ed(iot)

Favre sucks. Anyone who can’t see that probably rides around in short bus with a helmet and trying to eat soup with a fork.

  62. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

OH MY GOD, FAVRE DOES NOT TAKE CARE OF THE FOOTBALL AT ALL, HE LOOKS LOST. BUT WHY ARE THEY IN A SHOTGUN FORMATION ON THIRD AND 2 IN THE REDZONE AND JESSE CHATMAN HAS THE BALL , SCHEME IS TERRIBLE, SCHOTTY ALWAYS MAKES THESE BACK BREAKING CALLS, IT’S COMING MAN EVEN IF THEY WIN THINGS NEED TO CHANGE, SCHOTT HAS GOTTA GO …AND KODY SPENCER TOO

  63. avatar jet4lif says:

    Roger that Roger Vick.

  64. avatar Jesse says:

    Get off his Back?

KC 31st worst run defense in the league. 13th best pass defense.

    Number of runs? 22

    Number of passes? 38

  65. avatar sigs says:

don’t blame the QB. Blame the play calling. Who the heck calls a play with less then two yards on a few occasions today without having at least one running back behind favre. Defense knows he’s going to throw. At least pretend you might run the ball once in awhile. Good players lousy play calling.

  66. avatar Jesse says:

Why are there no replays in this game?

  67. avatar Roger Vick says:

Sigs, Favre’s not a rookie. You have an automatic FG. Don’t force it. Just throw it away. Stop making excuses for a bad QB.

  68. avatar jas says:

    Jesse-Sutton is OUR def coordinator.

  69. avatar hank/naplesh says:

Miami just beat Buffalo. We play them next. I hope Mangini PLAYS better !!! And we change our overall approach.

  70. avatar Jesse says:

jas… thank you … meant schotten

  71. avatar Chrebookie says:

YA!!! I love my Jets!!!!! If i could marry them I WOULD!!!!

  72. avatar jet4lif says:

    Thank you Herm.

  73. avatar jas says:

This staff uses GAME specific game plans. They just don’t know which game they are planning for. Fonzie and Hank are right. Get off the coaches backs.

  74. avatar sigs says:

Jets are lucky to win this. They better start getting a running game and some play action or they’re going no where.

  75. avatar jet4lif says:

We had 40 passing plays and around 20 running plays all the while leading the game.

  76. avatar Fonzie says:

    Hey guess what guys!!!

The whole Lions fiasco by Brett FARVE has really got to his head. He showed how much football knowledge he knows. Enough to give the 1-5 Chiefs 7 points. How much are we paying him? Lets see now oh wait it doesn’t matter because he is paid to win games like these after he tries to lose them. Good luck Brett Farve lovers the pain he experienced today is nothing like what he is going to face next week when he faces a angry and fuming Buffalo team. Oh yes we got him to win games like that too but maybe he will find the bench sooner than he plays.

  77. avatar Harvlis says:

Coaches do stink but, Favre was ugly today. With the talent that we have on this team, we should be dominating teams like Oakland and KC. Our pass coverage is non-existent. When we put pressure on Thigpen, he couldn’t do anything. So, what do we do — we play prevent. When we ran, we picked up good yardage. So, what do we do, we throw all day long. Watching this team is like watching the Knicks. I can’t take much more of this. This is why, in the pre-season, when Woody said that Mangini’s job was safe — I thought it was a stupid statement. How can his job be secure, if we lose to Oakland and barely beat the Chiefs, at home.

  78. avatar Fonzie says:

correction: How much football knowledge he has!!!

  79. avatar James in TN says:

Mangina is a jackass and if you think it’s not his fault we play like crap then you are a jackass too. TJ would have gained 200yds if we had a coaching staff.

  80. avatar Mike says:

even thou the jets won, i didnt like how the Jets play,
this was a close game that we could of lost

If you are a Jet Fan and have myspace, come join Jets Nation, just click the link below

    http://groups.myspace.com/NFLNewYorkJets

  81. avatar Mike says:

james, i wouldn’t call mangini a jackass, its call bad coaching

  82. avatar hank/naplesh says:

    SIMPLE LOGIC FOR SIMPLE MINDS

Three Turnovers=Defensive Nightmares and Ugly Wins.

  83. avatar hank/naplesh says:

    Hravlis:

You said Farve was ugly today. How about last week?

I’m telling you he has been the Defense’s best friend this year. Right?

  84. avatar hank/naplesh says:

    Harvlis:

I mean really, he has been sooooo great to the D that we Should fire Sutton and save his salary. We don’t need anyone to coach the D.

  85. avatar jas says:

The game plans for the OAK and KC games were solely designed for the Bills game. Now they think the Jets suck and they will kill us. We’ve got them fooled.
    This is brilliant!
    GET OFF THE COACHES BACK’S

  86. avatar john l says:

we are 4-3 and in the thick of the afc title race…enough said

  87. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

Just brilliant coaching to go 1-1 against teams you should have beaten easily. I will not let up on the coaches until they perform up to expectations. Right now Mangini and Schott get Fs, sutton a D- and westhof an A+. Thank God for Westhof or we’d be 0-7.

  88. avatar john l says:

by the way chad had another great game not to say that i’m not happy with brett but just pointing out that mangini wanted clemmens instead of chad is pathetic.

  89. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

A WIN IS A WIN BUT IF ANYONE WHO WATCHED TODAYS GAME AND CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THE OFF AND DEF COORDS. DID A GOOD JOB PUTTING PEOPLE IN A SITUATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL THEN YOU NEED UR HEAD EXAMINED AND LAY OFF THE KOOLAID. IT’S CLEAR IF YOU THINK THIS STAFF HAS IT ALL FIGURED OUT YOU ARE JUST DOING IT TO BREAK PEOPLES BELLS. I LIKE MANGINI BUT HES GOTTA STEP UP, STRIP SUTTON OF THE PLAYCALLING, AND REIGN IN LIL MARTY. RAY LUCAS IS THE MAN AND SAID “YOU GOTTA RUN TO SET UP THE PASS”. IF THIS CONTINUES INTO NEXT WEEK WITH THE SCHEME AND PLAYCALLING, AND FAVRE TOO, HE TRIES TO DO TOO MUCH, WE DONT EVEN SNIFF THE BILLS…

  90. avatar jas says:

    Eddie-
be careful cause Fonzie and Hank will come after you with torches and pitchforks (Frankenstein reference).
Me, they’ve convinced me to luv these coaches.

  91. avatar JA says:

mangini and shot have to be fired ASAP i really ope that there is a slightly realistic chance of that happening. We have a solid running game they just dont get the ball…. of course farve is gunnu throw 3 (should have been like 5 or 6) picks when hes throwing the bal every down. When we ran the ball we got production….why the hell are we lining up in shotgun on 3rd and short every time??? the answer is bc our coaches are morons. Even the game winning touchdown was an atrocious call…wer down 3 in feild goal range we need to take care of the ball, we got lucky coles made a great catch. What about the play action bomb over the middle in the 2nd half on a 3rd and 1 ball was thrown into double coverage fora 3 and out. again the main point im trying to make is that our coaches are absolutely pathetic…the Jets franchise needs to pay back all the ticket holders bc this is complete robbery….its not fair to fool the fans with solid alent and not tell us the team was going to be run by idiots….unfortunatley for most of us its too late for us to just become giants fans and id just like to thank god that im not a met fan like many of the other jets fans bc that wud be total hell.

  92. avatar subwayfare says:

I love everyone arguing over whether the poor showing was the fault of Favre OR the game plan when both were dreadful today. I think he actually should get a pass on the pick 6 to Stuckey who quit on the play in a spot where quitting isn’t an option, but the other two picks were simply ghastly. He did achieve some redemption with the late drive and score to LC.

The game plan was atrocious. I don’t care about Bubba and Baker being out, the KC run D has not shown the ability to stop anyone all year and you have to hit a team where their vulnerable until they prove otherwise.

I don’t want to fire the CS but I do want them to scale back on the “game specific” plans and allow the team to develop some strengths and offensive personality. It seems that as soon as they begin to do one thing well, they move away from it for next week’s opponent.

I see people calling for more defensive aggressiveness but they must have been watching a different game than I was. The Jets were getting killed on their blitzes by the quick release of Thigpen. It’s bad enough not getting good pressure out of your base but when you blitz and don’t get pressure you’re just giving the QB a host of options. The Jets don’t need to blitz more, they need to blitz better; better schemes, disguises, angles and speed.

Having said all that, they won the game and at 4-2 are right in the thick of it. In spite of their shortcomings, the wins are buying them the chance to get better and maybe jell at the right time. Let’s hope they use it well.

  93. avatar subwayfare says:

    Correction: 4-3.

  94. avatar subwayfare says:

Does anyone else wonder whether the appearance of Miller on the return and Chatman on a couple of plays were an effort to shake off some rust in anticipation of a Leon suspension? God, I hope not.

  95. avatar klecko71 says:

    james in TN…. much respect.
i know some of you are fans of mine =) and i am pretty confident that 99% of the people on this site are smart….

anyone who watched that game that doesnt think we are the worst coached team in football needs a brain transplant.

3rd and 1…we go deep…yes some would argue its an aggressive call…and i actually dont mind it. BUT WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME U SAW A 3RD AND 1 DEEP BALL THAT ENDED UP IN DOUBLE COVERAGE!!! hmmm…maybe they knew it was coming.

    3rd and 2 from the 10…the favre pick for a TD…
WHO THE F–K SPREADS THE FIELD!!!! u wanna throw there?? fine…PLAY FAKE U F—-N MORON!!!! u cant spread the field at the 10 schottenheimer!!!!!!! there is no room!!!! so when ur dumb ass puts 4/5 WR out there….THAT MEANS THERE ARE 6+ CHIEFS IN COVERAGE….ON A 10 YARD FIELD!!!!!!
that pick wasnt all favres fault…stuckey got cut off, but favre still has to be a bit more careful.

again our offense has ZERO rhythem….is that how u spell it? =)

schottenheimer has NO FEEL FOR PLAY CALLING!!! sometimes the calls are very creative and smart, and other times its a joke. worst run defense in football…..make em stop you!!!!!!!

we ARE the worst coached team in the league in terms of playcalling on both sides of the ball.
no matter what happens the rest of the way….schott has to go…..not sure about sutton b/c one would think mangini has a hand in the defense….but we still didnt blitz enough today.

could have been the worst back to back losses in franchise history.

    such losers…even when they win.

    Additional correction in 1st post: …hit a team where “they’re” vulnerable…

  97. avatar klecko71 says:

    oh…

leon best player on the team.

hands down. he sucks…we struggle like last week.

he good or better….we are alot better

  98. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

HANK I MISSED THE LIL SHOT YOU TOOK AT ME, THE OVERALL APPROACH MAYBE SET UP THE PASS WITH RUN, EASY THROWS TO GET FAVRE INTO A RYTHYM, OR HOW BOUT’ PA PASS THAT DOESNT INVOLVE THREE FAKES BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMAGE. OFFENSE IN THE NFL IS ABOUT RYTHYM AND MATCHUPS. THEY DO IT WELL SOMETIMES BUT THEY NEED TO BE MORE CONSISTENT. CHANGE THE WAY THEY ATTACK MIGHT HELP THEM BECOME MORE CONSISTENT. HOW U CAN WATCH THIS AND BLAME IT ALL ON FAVRE MAKES ME WONDER IF YOU EVER PLAYED ORGANIZED FOOTBALL AT ANY LEVEL. EVEN MANGINI IN THE POSTGAME SAID HE NEEDS TO “INVESTIGATE THE WAY WE APPROACH OFFENSIVELY” I CANT END THIS WITH SOME SNAPPY SARCASTIC ENDING CAUSE IM TOO SIMPLE MINDED TO UNDERSTAND SIMPLE LOGIC

  99. avatar JesusRevis says:

    2-9-NYJ9 (10:38) (Shotgun) T.Thigpen up the middle to NYJ 12 for -3 yards (C.Pace, B.Thomas).

Does anyone know why this play doesnt count as a sack? Thigpen lined up in shotgun and ran up the middle for a loss of 3 yards? So if the QB was tackled for a loss of 3, why isnt it a sack? Does anyone know?

  100. avatar jas says:

As you all know by now Fonzie, Hank and some others have convinced me these coaches are great and favre is a bum, but just a thought–
How come the defensive game plan each week can’t stop ANYBODY? Unless favre is playing LB i don’t quite see how that is his fault.

  101. avatar inOhio says:

Despite all the negative aspects of this game, you have to admire the performance of Leon. The little guy has been a stud all year and he flat out won this game for us. I’m not a huge fan of Dan Dierdorf, but it was nice that he recognized several times how important Washington is to the Jets.

  102. avatar klecko71 says:

    eddie digio….right on the money.

but the favre throw into double coverage was brutal.

nice catch on the mangini quote….heard he also said that b/c baker was a last minute scratch they werent as confident they could run. now THATS a weak ass excuse…

but i am glad to hear him talk about the brutal / lack of flow / weak ass playcalling on offense.

  103. avatar klecko71 says:

jesus revis….if it was a QB draw its not a sack…

dont know if it was….but that would be one reason why it wouldnt be a sack

  104. avatar Jose the Jet says:

IM BEGINNING TO THINK THAT SHOTTY IS GOOD FOR A CHAD TYPE OF A QB. NOT A BRETT. I DID NOT WATCH THE GAME. I DIDNT WANT TO GET NAUSEOUS. IM SO GLD I DIDNT. PLAYED GOLF INSTEAD. SOUNDS LIKE I WOULD’VE BROKEN MY TV IF I WOULD’VE STAYED HOME. THANK GOD! I DIDNT WATCH. DID WE FINLLY RUN A SCREEN? I’M GOING TO READ THE PLAY BY PLAY. HOPEFULLY I WONT READ ABOUT ANY SCARY PLAYS!!

  105. avatar k.c. says:

I AGREE/DISAGREE with ALOT of the comments on here today. FIRST of all a WIN IS A WIN! with that being said GOD IT WAS UGLY!! if it wasnt for LEON WASHINGTON,we would have lost! I PRAY that his name isnt on that “LIST”! with everyone calling for the coach’s heads,I believe that SCHOTTY is the one who needs to go. SUTTON isn’t that much better either! now onto FAVRE….his INT’S are INEXCUSEABLE! so far this year he has 14 TD passes and 11 INT’S!! he’s on pace to throw at LEAST 25 INT’S! YES,I believe the PLAYCALLING is pretty bad and leaves alot to be desired, but those picks were RIGHT IN THEIR HANDS! it wasn’t like a tipped ball or something, they were in the oppositions CHEST! ONE int I/WE could live with, but its almost 3-4 EVERY game.

  106. avatar Fonzie says:

Losers believe in Brett FARVE. Sorry guys he is a has been.

  107. avatar Fonzie says:

all of you have smoke blown up your rear ends. Its time to get real. FARVE is not the JETS and the sooner we get rid of him the better.

  108. avatar k.c. says:

P.S. as far as MANGINI goes, I wanna see SOME kind of EMOTION! YELL,THROW SOMETHING,KICK A GARBAGE CAN,SWEAR….SOMETHING!!

  109. avatar k.c. says:

afetr that LAST INT return for a touchdown,we should have put KELLEN in.

  110. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

By the way, Favre doesn’t suck. I think he is a big upgrade over Chad. With chad we’d be 0-7 or 1-6. With Favre we are 4-3. With 1st class coaches like Cowher, we’d be 7-0 or 6-1.

So be happy we have Favre with the lousy coaches we have.

  111. avatar Fonzie says:

Hey guys if the play calling is SOOOO conservative then why does FARVE have 11 + picks? Just as many picks as touchdowns. We paid him to relieve Joe Willie of his title he can’t even shine the Real Broadway’s jock. Sorry guys stop dreaming and get real FARVE is sucking the team dry and he has Jas (Johnny Styne) sucking you guys on the blog for him.

  112. avatar k.c. says:

and EVERYONE just remember this….with a win vs.BUFFALO next week and if NEW ENGLAND can lose to INDY(not out of the realm of possibility) there will be a THREE way TIE for first. I can only HOPE that THIS weeks game was an EYE OPENER for all the COACHES and PLAYERS!

  113. avatar Fonzie says:

Well he sucked today Mr. Editor. I am afraid you are relieved of your position of grading papers as you clearly have no idea of what you are saying.

  114. avatar Fonzie says:

We paid him 12 million for what to throw picks and disrupt the chemistry of the offense. Come on.

  115. avatar k.c. says:

FAVRE may not “SUCK”,but he definitely wasn’t “GOOD” since WEEK 4!

  116. avatar k.c. says:

and also wasnt “GOOD” weeks 1-2 either.

  117. avatar Fonzie says:

K.C. my friend as along as we have FARVE we will only go south I tell you. South until we reached rock bottom and I am glad Miami won because Pennington showed that he can group his offense together and string drives that count not hurt the team and put the defense in a position to take the ball back and actually leave them on field.

  118. avatar Fonzie says:

Wow K.C. so fast to jump on the FARVE bandwagon and yet you say an interesting fact. He “HASNT” been good since week four. One game in a whole season. WOW!! We need him desperately and he pulls one game out for us. Hmm speaks of a loser.

  119. avatar Fonzie says:

correction: one game in a season so far.

  120. avatar k.c. says:

trust me Fonzie…I am NOT on the FAVRE bandwagon!

  121. avatar Fonzie says:

Oh sure K.C.Listen to this I am glad Clowney was not playing today. He hasn’t proven he can get onto special teams and I am glad Mangini didn’t play him. Mangini is loyal to Smith, Wright, and Stuckey for that matter who have worked all season long. Clowney hasn’t proven anything yet for all you FARVE to CLOWNEY hopefuls. He can’t make it to special teams yet. What a bunch of hype. Also pay attention K.C and the rest of you who want to listen. November is coming up this is the month we must dictate and tell the NFL that we can run the ball. If not we will LOSE every game. Mark that down! FARVE WILL NOT!!!!! I REPEAT FARVE WILL NOT, win games for us with his arm. He needs to step back and let Thomas Jones and the offensive line push the team into the playoffs. That is the only way to go.

  122. avatar Fonzie says:

FARVE SHARE!!! FARVE SHARE THE FOOTBALL!!!!

  123. avatar Fonzie says:

    Head to head

    FARVE VERSUS PENNINGTON:

FARVE 1-2. PENNINGTON 2-1. How do you like those apples from a hall of fame quarterback.

  124. avatar Fonzie says:

    Go Pennington!!!

  125. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

IF YOU ASKED 32 GM’S WHO THEY WOULD RATHER PLAY QB FOR THEM ALL 32 WOULD PICK FAVRE. FAVRE HAS BEEN CARELESS WITH THE BALL AND THINKS HE IS 25. HE IS TRYING TO DO TOO MUCH. TWO OF THE THROWS ARE CORRECTABLE. PLUS HE IS GETTING DRILLED BACK THERE. HES RUSHING THINGS BC DAMIEN WOODY AND FANECA GET HIM SMASHED. THE PICK 6 WAS BC STUCKEY GAVE UP ON THE PLAY. HE HAS NOT BEEN GOOD, MEDIOCRE AT BEST BUT SCHOTTENHIEMER AINT HELPING, WHEN U RUN THE SAME SPREAD FORMATION AND DINK AND DUNK WHEN U GET IN THE REDZONE GUYS ON D JUMP ROUTES. TO CALL FAVRE A BUM IS JUST PLAIN RIDICULOUS, GUYS AN INTERCEPTION WAITING TO HAPPEN BUT A FREAKIN WARRIOR MAN. I DONT THINK YOU EVER PLAYED FOOTBALL FONZERELLI, YOU MANGINI SCHOTTENHIEMER, RICHIE, POTSIE, JOANIE AND CHACHI SHOULD ALL BREAK DOWN GAME FILM TOGETHER

Ten weeks now and he still can”t be in synch with his receivers? What was it 40 freeking passing plays to 25 running and it’s not enough for you guys ? What are you masochists? Dilusional?

Hate to say it but guys see the light or get some cojones men !!!

What’s the matter Farve can’t audible at the line? The coaches wont let him participate in formulatio up the offensive game plan?

C’om guys must be that you’all have a man crush on Farve and don’t have the stones to admit that HIS INTERCEPTIONS ARE THE REASON FOR GETTING OUR DEFFENSE KILLED.

Even the anouncers have commented that it looks like the is trying to force feed Farve to the opposing defenses, and you guys are so chicken hearted as to still blame the CS. Grow some stones. Call it Like it really is !!!

Everyone, stay calm -the ambulance will be there soon.

  130. avatar Fonzie says:

    JAS,

Why can’t you answer a simple question? Why do you have a mancrush on FARVE and refuse to admit that he is responsible for the interception and putting our defense in real bad positions throughout the games. Doesn’t he participate in formulating the offensive game plan each week with the coaches? Why does he have so many problems getting in sync with the recievers? Why do continue to spew your lunacy on this blog to all these ture Jet fans. Why dont you grow up and answer the question so that we can get into a football conversation, or is it that it will hurt you too much to go against your mancrush on FARVE? Grow up!!!

  131. avatar jas says:

I will answer you in detail after you finish your treatment for Koolaid overdose.

  132. avatar JetsFanForLife says:

Bottom line – they all sucked today (apart from Leon and our D front 3 (let’s hope the Rumor re: Leon is false)…but in fairness to Farve, if he’s living all day in the shotgun (generally without backs), who’s gonna ever think we’re running? Makes D decision making a little easier. I don’t think any of us have a headset to know what’s getting called vs. what’s changed on audible, but something’s gotta change or we’re again doomed to obscurity and disappointment

p.s. resolution starting next week is make my 8 and 11 year olds start to understand why they need to pick a 2nd favorite team that can grow to become their first favorite as being a Jets fan should be not be a cross given down from fathers to sons.

YOUR BOY’S SAYIN EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TRYIN TO SAY, SO WHAT YOUR BEEF WIT ME? BRO ID BET MY LIFE RIGHT NOW U NEVER STRAPPED UP SOME PADS, FAVRE SUCKS RIGHT NOW BUT ITS NOT ALL HIS FAULT,
BUT MAYBE ITS JUST MY SIMPLE MINDED SIMPLE LOGIC

  136. avatar New Jet Fan says:

Favre needs time to throw. How much time is the offense giving him to set up on a deep pass and step into his throws. Just compare Thigpens time in the pocket to Favre’s. How many times did Favre get hammered today and get back on the field. He throws interceptions, but your scoring in the red zone is a heck of alot better than last year. Favre is one of the toughest QB’s in the league and one of the most fun too watch. Which QB in the past 25 years gave you a 6 touchdown game ? Problem is when a fan can’t even enjoy a W without criticizing everything about this team. Enjoy having one of the best QB’s to every play the game in NY.
