The Embedded Journalist Checks In
Commenter Mad Dog Mo goes behind enemy lines with Jets in Orchard Park to check out the game and share his experience.
Reverse psychology doesn’t work on psychos…
I don’t know if we should view this as a legitimate shot to win this weekend or a local sportswriter playing a little reverse psychology with the Jets but the biggest Jet Hater of them all, Bob Matthews (Longtime Rochester D&C Columnist) is picking the Jets to win. Vegas has the line at 5 ½ points with the Bills favored. That didn’t stop Matthews from putting the Jets on top of the Bills 23-20 on the heels of a weak pass rush and run defense by the Bills. The Bills are having their best season in years and the local guy turns on them. Not much “circling of the wagons”. All of the major sports reporting outlets, ESPN, Yahoo, USA Today, etc. have their experts picking the Bills to win this week. Perhaps Bob is getting his picks from the Madden Simulator. The simulator also has the Jets winning 28-24.
As previously mentioned on this blog, I think Leon Washington will score a special-teams touchdown on Sunday. In addition, I look for Thomas Jones to have a decent day, 75-90 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Brett Favre will continue to do his best to give the game away via costly turnovers. Hopefully, Feely will make 3 of the 4 field goals he will attempt. If that happens, the defense will have a chance to hold on with a final minute end zone INT for the win. Jets win 23-17. I know that sounds like a homers perspective on the game but that’s just the kind of guy that I am.
I will be embedded with dozens of Bills Fans this Sunday at the game in Buffalo. I should be easy to spot, the only Brian Thomas Away Jersey surrounded by Bills Fans at The Ralph. I hate the Bills and the modified version of the JETS chant that their fans do but the tailgating in Buffalo is off the chain. Provided the Bills new Guest Assist System works, a new system in Orchard Park that allows fans in jeopardy to send text messages to security for help, I will report back on Monday on the game day experience behind enemy lines. If any of you are going to the game this weekend, stop by and say “Hi”. I will be at the “Original Stadium Short Cut” on California Avenue tailgating with a bunch of Bills Fans.
