Today the Jets head … into … their home state to take on Buffalo Bills. The Bills have fallen on some harder times recently, losing two of their last three, but the Bills match up very well against the Jets and are looking to re-assert their early dominance in the AFC East.

Keys to the Game:

  1. Running the Ball – The Bills have a stout D-Line but a bad group of linebackers when it comes to the run. Getting to the second level will be key.
  2. Specials Teams Field Position — Miami pinned the Bills deep in their own territory for much of the game on special teams. This could be a key for the Jets to winning.
    early drive.
  3. Turnovers — The Jets have struggled in their last three games against seemingly inferior opponents because of this reason. Favre needs to throw the ball away when he’s in trouble.
  4. Between the 20s — The Jets defense needs to tighten up on an improving passing game. The Jets need to bring more than 3 players to rush Trent Edwards into quicker decisions.

Jets Run Offense v. Bills Run Defense – I really think this facet will win or lose the game for the Jets. The Bills are NASTY against the run when it comes to their front four, once beyond them, the linebackers effectiveness drops off precipitously. For the Jets, putting bodies on the Bills defensive lineman and opening the holes will be one of the most important things this offense does. The Jets will need to use Chris Baker and Tony Richardson a lot to help create some room, but look for the Jets to try and pull their guards from one side to the other to help offset the balance.

Jets Pass Offense v. Bills Pass Defense – The Jets should have good protection with Aaron Schobel out and a rush that isn’t great at getting sacks. Bills have a decent pass defense but CB Terrence McGee is still recovering from a knee injury and the Dolphins last week used Ted Ginn Jr. (171 yards) extensively on McGee, so the Jets would be wise to look to exploit that matchup early. As far as who could play the Ginn role in the Jets offense most effectively? David Clowney seems a match, but the Jets might not want to activate him today, so Brad Smith or Dustin Keller could see some time flanking in this game. Nickel corner Ashton Youboty has been working through a foot injury, so the Jets might look to spread the field and pick at the Bills secondary.

Jets Run Defense v. Bills Run Offense - The Jets have a distinct edge here, but Marshawn Lynch might have started to feel his Wheaties again as he rushed for more than four yards a carry last weekend for the first time since the season opener against Seattle. With David Harris out, and David Bowens starting in his place, it remains to be seen how well the Jets can play against Lynch who can be slippery on checkdowns.

Jets Pass Defense v. Bills Pass Offense – I have a deep fear that the Jets won’t match up well here, despite Josh Reed not playing in this game. Lee Evans is having a career year, so the Jets will have to take Darrelle Revis and follow Evans around the field as much as they can. The Jets are really struggling against defending the pass against Tight Ends and Running Backs this season so Trent Edwards might have a field day on this defense with Marshawn Lynch. My thought to counter that would be to apply more pressure consistently up front with the linebackers to not allow Edwards to work through his progressions but keeping a man on Lynch. The Bills aren’t great in protecting against sacks, and if the Jets scheme it right for once, they might see more here. Also, look to see who the Jets use to replace Bowens on passing sub packages with their hand on the line … is it Gholston? With the cutting of Kareem Brown yesterday, you’d think that would have to be the case.

Special Teams — Kicks Returns are where the Jets have to make as much hay as they can. KR Leon Washington has had a great season so far, and could have some big gains against a spotty coverage unit. Punt coverage is where the Jets will have their hands full, so P Reggie Hodges distance and hangtime will be crucial in this game. If it comes down to field goals, don’t look for the Jets to pull this one out.

This is a game why we got Favre and Mangini. Both have to show up today.

  2. avatar DannyMazz44 says:

    Here we go!

  3. avatar a jet all the way says:

    chokers

  4. avatar DannyMazz44 says:

    Refs are squeezing us already

  5. avatar a jet all the way says:

all that talent, drives me nuts

  6. avatar a jet all the way says:

why is bowens still on the team?

  7. avatar DannyMazz44 says:

    DO NOT BLITZ THE BILLS

  8. avatar Joe B. says:

Yeah, our defense is definitely no worse without Harris. Nice call guys.

  9. avatar wow says:

    We’re completely clueless on D today…

  10. avatar BigBadBob says:

who blew the coverage on that play?

  11. avatar dave says:

So many mistakes already!!!!! BOWENS! Goofed twice (botched coverage on Lynch, and just botched coverage on that TD). Keller! How do you drop that! You’re a receiving tight end!!!!!!!

We keep playing like this I’m gonna break a table.

  12. avatar kd bart says:

David Bowens is one bad play away from being waived at halftime.

  13. avatar Drew says:

    Where’s Cody Spencer

  14. avatar Ferraro41 says:

Just can’t happen….that’s just two bad mental breakdowns on the first defensive series of the game. Ridiculous

  15. avatar a jet all the way says:

an interception right now, and this game’s over

  16. avatar BigBadBob says:

more trickery by shott, it just happened to work this time

  17. avatar a jet all the way says:

leon’s too hot…make him the qb!

  18. avatar BigBadBob says:

    Leon is a f$%^ing stud

  19. avatar a jet all the way says:

well, i wonder what’s on nbc?

  20. avatar Drew says:

Looks like a Favre 40+ throw game already

  21. avatar kd bart says:

7-3 in the first quarter and you’re ready to leave. Some Jet all the way.

  22. avatar Kyle says:

    Keller drops an easy catch.

    Bowens on blown coverage.

Leon is the only one on this team that improves.

  23. avatar a jet all the way says:

again, talent rises to the top! now can the please get a td?

  24. avatar Kyle says:

I’m from here on calling him David Blowens.

  25. avatar BigBadBob says:

wow, favre almost screwed it up on the first play

  26. avatar Kyle says:

This is just foul, I might have ti turn this game off. Being a Jets fan is taking it’s toll on my health.

  27. avatar Ferraro41 says:

They score touchdowns. We kick field goals. Wasn’t that the reason we got rid of Chad in the first place?

  28. avatar Joe B. says:

What an embarrassment. 1st & Goal from the 6, a fumble and two not even close incompletions.

  29. avatar a jet all the way says:

FAVRE is playing by memory…too bad he can’t recall what an open receiver look like any more

  30. avatar DannyMazz44 says:

I actually think that Favre did fine on that last series – Id rather throw away than to the Bills

  31. avatar a jet all the way says:

hey kd, i’ve been a jet fan for so long i’ve forgotten what it feels like to win…do you remember the last time we won?

  32. avatar easye25 says:

honestly, favre just looks lost out there and thats the most troubling element of the whole game-this is a hof qb and he cant audible and run to the other side? He can’t locate his primary reciever in the back of the endzone, he can’t handle a snap, its painful to watch

  33. avatar a jet all the way says:

so, it’s 3rd and 2, and they only send 3 guys to sack the qb?
could somebody tell them they’re not the buccaneers

  34. avatar a jet all the way says:

    poubah, that’s another winner

  35. avatar dave says:

THE JETS LOOK LIKE ASS!!! I give them to halftime and I’m calling it a season. They are HORRIBLE.

  36. avatar Ferraro41 says:

This team looks completely unprepared to play today. Whose fault might that be?

  37. avatar a jet all the way says:

why don’t they just forfeit the game right now, so they can go to niagra falls and throw themselves

  38. avatar a jet all the way says:

    absolutely embarassing

  39. avatar dave says:

can SOMEONE plaase stop marshawn lynch? please?

  40. avatar dave says:

These penalties are gut-wrenching. We have to shut these guys down early, not hand them 14 points.

  41. avatar DannyMazz44 says:

The players are failying the coaches – Penalties are destroying the team

  42. avatar dave says:

At least we’re putting some pressure on Edwards, but it seems to be to the detriment of coverage on lynch.

  43. avatar Joe B. says:

Nice call coach. 48 and 43, really that different?

  44. avatar dave (the 1st) says:

nice call declining the penalty, mangini. the bloom is definitely off the rose there.

  45. avatar a jet all the way says:

nice knowing you mangini, what a bonehead decision…on the road, let them try a fg, now they’re gonna get a td out of this

  46. avatar Ferraro41 says:

You stop them on 3rd down, but accept a 5 yard penalty and give them another shot? I mean, if it was 10 yards, maybe you think about it. But give them another shot for 5 yards?

    Mangini is an idiot.

  47. avatar dave (the 1st) says:

i think i saw this ref at my nephew’s HS game this weekend…..

  48. avatar dave (the 1st) says:

    ABRAHAM ELAM = MVP!!!

  49. avatar Joe B. says:

    ABRAM ELAMMMMMMMMM

  50. avatar dave says:

I take back what I said about Elam last week. WHAT A PLAY!

  51. avatar Ed L says:

THAT MY BOY ELAM I BEEN SAYIN IT ALL YEAR!!!!!

  52. avatar dave (the 1st) says:

the jets have no business losing this game. the bills are not that good.

  53. avatar kd bart says:

Never seen a fan base that can turn on a dime like Jet fans.

  54. avatar EastSideKahaluu says:

Well, we’ve already let Edwards throw for 2 touchdowns!

  55. avatar a jet all the way says:

it’s not over, they’ll find a way to muck it up!

  56. avatar Joe B. says:

Defense must be exhausted. If the Jets ever get the ball back, they need some first downs to keep these guys off the field.

  57. avatar Oh Man says:

    COVER SOMEBODY!!!!!

  58. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

4th and 1 and the Jets just made a statement, great job by the defense

  59. avatar Joe B. says:

This defense has got some GUTS.

If the offense can’t put together a few scoring drives to win this game, they should all be ashamed.

  60. avatar a jet all the way says:

The offense should give the defense their gameday checks

  61. avatar Joe B. says:

27 straight plays on the field, and they still get a stop on 4th & Inches. Not to mention the 10 points set up/scored by them. Let’s go offense, do your part..

  62. avatar subwayfare says:

The game plan is working to perfection: keep the Buffalo offense on the field all day to tire them out.

  63. avatar a jet all the way says:

can they just run the ball

  64. avatar a jet all the way says:

what a catch, better than that you want?

  65. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

Mangini is coaching his ass off right now, I love it

  66. avatar Joe B. says:

Feely is horrendous. What a loser.

  67. avatar Oh Man says:

When do we get Nugent back? This guy is killing me!

  68. avatar DannyMazz44 says:

I can’t believe he just missed that FG -

  69. avatar Ferraro41 says:

The playcalling at the end of the half is the main reason I hate Schottenheimer. You have first and 10 at the 14, and you run two misdirection plays, trying to fool them. You’ve just moved the ball all the way down the field by going right at them, and now, in the red zone, he thinks he needs to get fancy.

We’re never winning anything as long as this dolt is running our offense.

  70. avatar Joe B. says:

You can’t believe it? He’s a freaking lock to miss a gimme field goal every game.

  71. avatar Joe B. says:

Winning the turnover battle 3-0 and we’re still only up six. Great job offense.

  72. avatar DannyMazz44 says:

Then the Jets should have called 3 running plays for positive yards to make it as eas as possible for Feely

  73. avatar TC says:

Like I said before “I have NO FAITH in Feely”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  74. avatar Joe B. says:

My thoughts exactly. Playing it safe in that area is fine if you have a reliable kicker. Feely is unreliability epitomized.

  75. avatar DannyMazz44 says:

hehe if Coctch didnt lose those 2 yards off the scrimmage that kick would have been good.

    O.o

  76. avatar Ed L says:

SHOULD HAVE RAN THE BALL UP THE GUT OR ATLEAST TAKE ONE SHOT AT THE ENDZONE

  77. avatar kc. says:

so far…SOUND/FUNDAMENTAL/SMASHMOUTH FOOTBALL!! GOOD FIRST HALF! FEELY SUCKS BALLS!

  78. avatar Harvlis says:

Good decision by Mangini on the too-many-men-on-the-field penalty. Other than that, play-calling is poor. Have to put a little responsibility on the players, as they have been screwing up left and right.

Second half. This is our opportunity to let people know, we have a team. J E T S Jets Jets Jets. Kick Buffalo butts!!!!!

  79. avatar kc. says:

    DEFENSE looking SOLID!!

  80. avatar Matt says:

How many points are we going to leave on the board today? This red zone offense has been nothing short of abominable.

  81. avatar Joe B. says:

Four trips into the red zone, three field goals and a missed field goal. Probably not a good idea to let the Bills hang around.

  82. avatar inOhio says:

Neither offense wants to win. They must have bets between themselves to see who sucks more in the red zone.

  83. avatar kc. says:

we are UP by TWO scores…everyone just BE HAPPY! BUFFALO is NO pushover and theyre HOME. the most important thing….NO TURNOVERS!

  84. avatar Joe B. says:

Must be nice to have a real kicker. Buffalo is far from done scoring. We need more points, now.

  85. avatar Harvlis says:

We struglle with 36-37 yard field goals and other teams kick 50+ on us for fun. We need to come right back at them. Here is where play calling will either make us look like a team or like a bunch of pretenders.

  86. avatar Oh Man says:

    #29 is so GD Smart!

  87. avatar kc. says:

that was a BAD timeout….hope it doesnt bite us in the arse!!!

  88. avatar Oh Man says:

    OH BABY!!!!!!!!

  89. avatar Joe B. says:

More like it. Remember the Bills’ M.O. is the 4th-quarter comeback though.. Can’t let up one bit.

  90. avatar Harvlis says:

    2-point conversion!!!!!!!

  91. avatar dave says:

Cody Spencer is becoming Leon-esque in terms of clutchness on specials teams for our tackling.

  92. avatar Joe B. says:

    Harvlis -

I agree, I thought that might be the time to go for it. As it stands, if the Bills score two TD’s, that Feely miss will be the difference. One more scoring drive is all I’m asking for, offense.

  93. avatar dave says:

also, re Lindell’s kicking superiority, note that his kick was INTO the wind.

  94. avatar Oh Man says:

Where are we ranked in sacks? Top 10?

  95. avatar Joe B. says:

One more scoring drive boys.. Come on..

  96. avatar Liam says:

also re Lindell’s kicking superiority, note that his kick was not between the crossbars

  97. avatar Joe B. says:

    Thanks Brett.

  98. avatar Oh Man says:

    OMG….NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  99. avatar kc. says:

    NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  100. avatar Chrebookie says:

    holy ****

  101. avatar Harvlis says:

If you haven’t voted for Kris Jenkins as an All-Pro – get your votes in.

The reason for the pick was that, we should have been running!

  102. avatar Joe B. says:

Talk about hanging the defense out to dry. What a disgrace.

  103. avatar Chrebookie says:

    why god… why

  104. avatar Pat says:

Hey guys, I’ve been looking at his wiki page but I can’t find the name of the mental disease Brett Favre has. Do any of you know?

  105. avatar Oh Man says:

    STOP SHOWING IT!!!!!

  106. avatar Chrebookie says:

    yeah i think its GangGreen

  107. avatar Chrebookie says:

its what happens to you when you put on our uniform

  108. avatar Chrebookie says:

rots the brain and talent within your body

  109. avatar Chrebookie says:

why are we calling those lays now…. waitin for shotty to F it up

  110. avatar Andrew B says:

Why are we passing on 1st and 5 with 6:30 to go and the clock running? Please someone justify this. Nice run TJ after that.

  111. avatar Chrebookie says:

dont get “cute” shotty… i can feel it coming

  112. avatar Joe B. says:

Must give Schotty props here. Great call with the FB Dive on 3rd & 1. Everyone in the stadium thought it was going to TJ.

If it comes down to Feely and he misses again, I don’t know what I’ll do..

  113. avatar kc. says:

wwe score ITS OVER!! J-E-T-S JETS! JETS!! JETS!!!

  114. avatar Oh Man says:

I’ll spew blood from my eyes!

  115. avatar Oh Man says:

    No spewing needed! THANK GOD!!!!

  116. avatar kc. says:

WHOA….saw that HIGH SNAP and almost had a HEART ATTACK!!!

  117. avatar Oh Man says:

LIGHTS OUT!!!!! Revis is the MAN!

  118. avatar kc. says:

when will they learn….DONT THROW TO REVIS” SIDE!!!!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!

  119. avatar Drew says:

Take a nap Mangini haters. He controled Favre (for the most part) and beat a better team on the road!

  120. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

GREAT WIN!!!!!!!!! MANGINI PUT HIS STAMP ON THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE WERE READY TO PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  121. avatar Harvlis says:

Add Revis to your All-Pro voting.

They don’t make it easy on us, do they?

    Let’s go Colts !!!!

  122. avatar Chrebookie says:

Alright a win…. So who’s head we gonna call for this week?

  123. avatar The Ed(itor) says:

Let me be one of the first to congratulate Mangini on his 4th win against a winning team. This was a huge win and was a complete team effort. Let’s carry this forward to the games against the Rams, Patsies and Titans. All these games are winnable.

  124. avatar Ed L says:

    LETS GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  125. avatar Joe B. says:

All is forgiven for the last three weeks from this fan. A lot of heart shown today.

However, as the typical worry wart Jet fan, I have to think the Rams game screams “LETDOWN,” especially with the Patriots coming up four days later.. Hopefully we can escape with a win.

    Go Jets.

  126. avatar subwayfare says:

Trent Edwards, a fumble and 2 picks including one in the end zone to kill the comeback?

Imagine if Favre had done that?

Think the Bills will cut him this week? Probably, right?

  127. avatar Drew says:

Funny Subway Mangini didnt let Favre do it this week. Believe me Favre and Schotty would have tried. Give Mangini credit and move on …..Another win despite Mr Favre. Once he and the receivers understand what to do when he sees pressure he has to be controlled.

  128. avatar Joe B. says:

I wasn’t aware that Edwards had 12 turnovers going into today’s game. Thanks for the rock solid analogy.

All of this Favre fans vs. Favre haters infighting is exhausting. Favre wasn’t great today, but he was good enough to win. That’s all I care about.

Stop the bickering and enjoy this win.

  129. avatar Drew says:

Just happy that my boy Mangini can quiet down the haters for at least 1 week. Great win today

  130. avatar Ed says:

    Few thoughts.
    1) Bogus PI on Lowery , if they are calling those in the NFL, games will be bowling scores.
    2) Jenking’s is a beast(LT,Ray Lewis mold no kidding)MVP of our team.
3)We don’t run enough, we need to be more smash mouth to be elite.
4)Mangini had a decent game, no way you decline that penalty NO WAY. (saved by the pick six)
5)Jay Feeley got to go, i refuse to watch him try hit a FG. GOT TO GO!

  131. avatar Ed says:

    Accept the penalty^^

  132. avatar Jonathan says:

everyone go back and read the progression of these comments and next time try to spare the rest of us the whining and bipolar roller coaster rides.

accept that we’re a decent team trying to make our way in a tough, unpredictable league.

  133. avatar jet4lif says:

    Tru dat Jonathan.
I cant belive how things move “for” and “against” so quickly in these blogs. Overall I saw a very good game by us. Best run defense I’ve seen from our team in a very long time and good ball control once Favre realized its time to control clock and score only once(FG or TD).

  134. avatar john r says:

people foget that it is a team that wins, not just 1 player
a great game and how about that defense
lets go indy tonight, and get a share of 1st

  135. avatar Dennis says:

Overall a very nice win. The defense played really well. The offense got it done. We’ve been running the ball well, why the heck are they calling so many passes?

I’m frustrated because we’re right we’re I expected ot be at this point – I said best-case we’ll go 10-6 and lose in the first round, and there is no indication that this team is any better than that. And then we still won’t know if Clemens is our QB or not. I’d still rather have stuck with Clemens or Pennington instead of getting Favre, but there’s nothing we can do about that now.

  136. avatar Joe B. says:

People need to remember that the Pats/Colts game is a win-win for us. If the Colts win, obviously we get a share of first, but even if the Pats win, that pretty much eliminates the Colts from Wild Card contention, and with the AFC East being so wide open, that may be even more important.

  137. avatar The Hanger says:

    Cherbookie
How about the OC…1st and 5 …10:53 left, up 23-10 and we throw. 6 point the other way.

Why not run the ball and take some time off the clock.
They need 2 touchdowns to beat you.

all in all a nice win..

  138. avatar Chrebookie says:

    hangar
oh i noticed that too, almost had to buy the office a new tv at that point! BUT- Hindsight is 20/20 and if the line holds for another second that might be 6 the other way. we was goin for the Gusto, kick ‘em while they were down… Sometimes you gotta go big when momentum swing in your favor. Plus that play couldnt have been covered better… It was almost like he knew (maybe he gotta a tape from Belicheat!)

I think TJ and more importantly Leon showed their true value to this team. We CAN pound the ball when we need too. Fuffalo’s strong point was their DL and LB and we gave it to them pretty good.

Add a Leon jersey to the christmas list… Time to replace the Chrebet jersey, it was a good 15yr run though!

  139. avatar rasmusbach says:

“kd bart, on November 2nd, 2008 at 2:46 pm Said:

Never seen a fan base that can turn on a dime like Jet fans.”

first 40 comments are fun reading (including this gem “can SOMEONE plaase stop marshawn lynch? please?”).
didn’t see much of the game other than the 4th quarter (why didn’t they challenge the spot on lynch on the second to last buffalo drive), but it’s nice to get an underdog victory

  140. avatar Sean says:

LEON is a special player and credit Westhoff for informing LW about that rule. That was a brilliant play. One of the most intelligent plays Ive seen in all my years watching football.

Is it me or did TJ look good running the ball today? Little quicker and more elusive?

    Run D was AWESOME.

  141. avatar Joe B. says:

I maintain that TJ’s underrated as hell. He consistently gets yards on first down, is very patient and knows where the sticks are. Never fumbles and is as tough as they come.

  142. avatar Sean says:

I am a huge fan of TJ and wish they would give him the ball 18-28 times per week and let Leon get 10 touches. Althought I think LW can be a legit starter in this league. Similar to Westbrook.

TJ is like CMART. Pure grinder. Will wear you down. Can make a few moves and has decent speed once he gets through a hole and his pass catching ability was very impressive today. Love this guy. Consumate professional.

If the Jets could run block like the Giants TJ would run for 1700.

  143. avatar JesusRevis says:

all you guys do is complain throughout the entire game

  144. avatar pound4pound says:

Great win on the road against a 5-2 divisional opponent. First off, props to Tannenbaum, who brought in Jenkins, Pace and Faneca, and who traded up in 2007 for the soon-to-be All-Pro Revis.

OK, we seem to be able to run the ball (5th in the league in ypc) and stop the run (4th in the league in ypc and ypg). Now we have to get consistent with one of the other two areas – passing the ball (brett’s completing a ton of passes, too bad so many are to the other jerseys) and stopping the pass (we were better for the most part today). And we have to give Leon more touches. Bassett asked if LW was Westbrook-like a few days ago; it’s looking more and more like the answer is a resounding “yes”.

  145. avatar Reprocity says:

I’ve never seen a Jets run D this good! Schott’s play calling was ok and Mangini did a hell of a job. I can’t wait to go to work Monday to see the look those Bills fan’s faces!

Bowens played well after that first series.

    Where’s that Buffalobillfan guy now???

  146. avatar Mehl56 says:

What a good win, we needed this !!! Jekins is the man,
what a diference maker. He made the center look like a boy among men!

Hanger- I couldn’t believe they tried to through up by 13 after the missed field goal in the beginning of the fourth- absolutely freaked out! Then they came back with a nice drive-thank you! Any way we got the win!

    IS EVERYONE HAPPY!!!

ye, great play by washington on the kickoff. seemed like the jets (all of them by the way) had to remind the ref about the rule. as much as i hate to admit it, i did see welker do the same thing when he was with the dolphins, though.

  149. avatar Jose The Jet says:

The NFL is so unpredictable. The Raiders didnt score a point today. The Chiefs and Bengals won on the same Day. The
Giants blew out the Cowboys. Detroit played well and Miami won. There is so much parity in the NFL. Maybe thats why the Jets are unpredictable?

  150. avatar Jose The Jet says:

ooopsss sorry. The Chiefs played well not won.

  151. avatar TC says:

Well no more flying under the Radar……….The Jet’s have a good team,it’s coming together!!
    Now spank the Rams!!

  152. avatar Kyle says:

Kris Jenkins is having an all-pro season.

Abram Elam should have been starting from day one. He is a hard worker, and it is finally translating to the field.

David Bowens blew coverage on the first play, but he played well the rest of the game. In fact, the D looked better with him on the field than with Harris.

Drew Coleman is getting better every game. If he was just a tad bit bigger, he’d be a star in the nickel.

Lowery continues to impress me as a rookie.

Revis is a shutdown corner. He’s shutdown every big receiver he has played. After a poor showing against the Chiefs, he more than made up for it with his play today.

Eric Mangini put his stamp on this game. Flawless coaching and preparation. This is the Jets team I expect to show up every Sunday.

Shaun Ellis is finally showing us how talented he is. First two years in the 3-4 he had to make up for the poor players around him, and still registered 10 sacks from the end position. Now, with the addition of Jenkins and the emergence of Coleman as a run stuffer, Ellis is finally showing us how much of a force he truly is.

Tip of the hat to Kerry Rhodes on that pass break-up in the endzone. He finally seems to be finding a rythym.

Brett Favre looks decent, but he worries me. I can’t put my finger on it, but something is missing. Maybe he is just getting too old.

Leon Washington is exciting to watch, and made several plays today, including recovering a fumble Favre lost. He amassed 80 yards in the first 3 minutes of play. He is outstanding.

Thomas Jones played well, and the offensive line was stellar, albeit unspectacular.

Overall, today’s win was a decisive one, and it was a win this team desperately needed. Let’s see if the team can build on this success next week.

  153. avatar Mehl56 says:

I do want to recognize Leon Washington- once again should be our MVP.

Kyle- please our defence is not better witout Harris, Harris is a true inside linebacker, with smarts!

By the way Basset- did you get a chance to go into the locker room last week? If so any good tid bits you could share?

  154. avatar rasmusbach says:

jenkins for all-pro? he may very well be the jets mvp sofar but he’ll have to battle j. williams, wilfork, hampton and rogers to even get to even get to the pro bowl behind haynesworth since his stats don’t jump out at you like his playing does.

revis propably won’t make it either although we all agree hes among the top 5 cbs in the league already

elam gambled on just about every play last year and i’m not entirely convinced he’s changed, but he’s still better than smith

  155. avatar Jose The Jet says:

If we win every home game and go .500 away we will win 11. Buffalo and Miami have to come to us later this season.

  156. avatar Jose The Jet says:

EVERY GAME THAT WE SCORED MORE THAN 20 WE’VE WON.

  157. avatar Jose The Jet says:

    WE NEED TO STAY HEALTHY!!!

  158. avatar Mehl56 says:

I also want to give props to Fenaca- he seemed to have been playing with a chip on his shoulder! I Loved it !! A couple his plays when he pulled, he just crushed his guy! I love smash mouth football!!!

  159. avatar Joe B. says:

Kyle, I have to disagree with a bunch of things you said. Drew Coleman is terrible, he’s not getting any better, and suggesting that our defense looked better with Bowens than with Harris is pretty comical.

On top of that, Kerry Rhodes is finding a rhythm? Because he broke up one pass? I love Hollywood, but he’s had a quiet season, and to say he’s finding a rhythm because of one play is also weird.

We knew how talented Shaun Ellis was. He does have multiple double-digit sack seasons..

The O-Line was stellar, but unspectacular? LOL, which is it?

  160. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

What a win. Kris Jenkins is our MVP. He stepped up after the KC game to the media and said what every Jet fan was thinking. He talked about how unsatisfied he was with the up and down play. What does he go out and do? He completely destroyed everything Buffalo tried to do today. He is the type of guy our defense was missing. Hes like the Antonio Pierce for our D. We found a leader today, a guy who can step up and get our D fired up to make big stops. And Eric Mangini stepped up and became the undisputed general; he’s was in total control and all over everything out there today. Today alot of things came together and roles were defined. Mangini hasnt been perfect this year, but he came through with a win that could define the character of this team…

  161. avatar Jose The Jet says:

IS IT SAFE TO SAY THAT WE ARE IN THE TOP 6 IN THE AFC?

  162. avatar rasmusbach says:

you’ve got to be kidding me comparing jenkins to antonio pierce. one is a gamechanging beast the other a clean up tackler behind the propably best defesive line through the last to seasons

hey ras…what play are you talking about above??

  164. avatar Eddie DiGio says:

oh yea well, how did the giants do w/o him that monday night vs cleveland? sounds familar huh? i wasnt talking about what position they play or even the way they play the game, its called vocal leadership, the defense takes their cue from them. but if you dont like it how does” jenkins is a ****in beast “sound? i guess that would be the best way to put it

  165. avatar Joe B. says:

    klecko71 -

I’m assuming he means the play where Leon picked up the kickoff with one foot out of bounds so as to draw the penalty?

  166. avatar GP says:

Jeez Louise, I’ve never in my life seen such negativity from fans throughout a game that we ACTUALLY WON!! Believe me, there were moments when I was pulling my hair out, but it seems like some of you were ready to close the book on our season after the first half, or after Mangini’s accepting that 3rd down penalty. We’re 5-3 through the first half of the season and tied at the top of the division. Life is good. And rasmusbach, I think Revis is an all-Pro running away and at the very least, he’s a pro-bowler.

  167. avatar Jose the Jet says:

On the 1st down that shouldn’t be. Our defender slipped and the WR got open. On the INTO. Their WR slipped. All’s Fair in Love and Football!!
