At five and three, you can’t call them glaring. Things we can work on, yes. GLARING problems? As I blame my father says (now that’s a problem for another site entirely!) stuffing the run leads to more passing.

The stats make sense. We throw more picks than anyone, thus our defense is on the field more – defending a shorter field. We stuff the run so teams go to the air. Of course, more pass plays leads to more sacks. But since you can’t get a sack every play we do give up pass yardage – but not a huge amount of points. (We’ve also played a lot of bad teams).

The good news is our secondary is pretty sound against the big play – deep ball. It’s the short underneath stuff; tight ends; backs coming out of the backfield that kill us – especially on 3rd down.

Saw a lot of good stuff (and some not so great stuff) this Sunday. For the first time in a long time, I have to say, I feel like we “out-coached” the other team.

The numbers would suggest our offense is very efficient: Overall ranking 17th, but we are 8th in points.

At first glance the defense seems not to be as efficient. Overall rank 13th, but 19th in points allowed. I will give them a little break because we lead the league in interceptions which obviously puts more pressure on the defense.

It goes without saying our kicking game has been a weak spot thus far. Although I do like the punter and hopefully we get Nuge back soon.

If the Jets O-line is 4th rated in run blocking (see earlier post) and they are only 15th in rushing, that means they aren’t calling for the run enough. With the cold winds coming its time to get smash mouth, like they did in that last drive.

Currently placing the Jets at the bottom of the top half of teams is a reasonable place to be. The next two games should tell us if that should be higher, lower, or about right. The Goldielocks games!

for a team thats 2nd in sacks and 4th against the run…. its surprising that we are in the middle of the pack overall.

something tells me if we had a more aggressive defensive philosophy, we would be 7 and 1…

not that defense cost us the raider game!! but a team thats 2nd in sacks and 4th against the run, and remember we arent 4th against the run b/c we have been ahead by tons of pts so the other team has to pass!!!…. we somehow arent a “dominant defense”…
