Buzz: David Harris Not Likely to Return Soon
Rich Cimini reported on his blog that Eric Mangini wasn’t exactly rosy when it came to discussing David Harris’ recovery from his groin pull.
… David Harris … could be lost for a significant period with a pulled groin.
Eric Mangini said Harris, who missed the Buffalo game, is “a longer shot” to play Sunday than he was last week – a rare injury revelation by the coach. That Mangini all but admitted that Harris has suffered a setback doesn’t bode well for the talented linebacker. Speaking cryptically, Mangini said there are “some things we’re doing” with Harris. When asked directly if Harris is having surgery, Mangini declined to answer, saying he prefers not to discuss those matters publicly.
Harris wasn’t in the locker room during the media period. He locker appeared untouched, meaning he probably didn’t report today. Reading between the lines, it doesn’t look good.
The fact that he didn’t even travel with the team to the game was a bad sign to begin with. I said last week it might be as long as a six week recovery process, and with the way Mangini treated it today, this is seeming like it might be more and more likely.

Really sucks. Hope he can be back in time for the home stretch, and hopefully Bowens can continue to improve from his terrible first drive last week. He played markedly better after those two blown coverages.

Any chance they resign cummings or renkhart from the practice squad because of this? We are woefully thin at ILB and Bowens does alot of things well, but covering in space is not one of them.

i’m suspecting the worst, as coach said more about harris in one week than he has about nuge all year.
that sucks. i like david bowens but he was exposed in the passing game on sunday (most notably the first drive of the game where he misread the screen and left marshawn lynch wide open and then left the TE wide open on the touchdown).

well we did pretty well in controlling the run game without him but bowens cant stick anyone for his life, but bowens wont be so bad against the Rams

are you kidding me, i want them to take hall , so that way we can throw toward him every play , raiders didnt release him for no reason, this guy is highly overrated and all he is at the right place at the right time when it comes to INT’s
I gotta question what kind of fan you are if you want to sign a proven team cancer just to keep him away from the Pats. Talk about short-sighted. Yeesh..
Alot of people suggest that the Jets and Patriots continue to do this practice (sign players just to keep them off of each other’s club) which I think is utterly ridiculous. Our defense particulary the run stepped up big in Harris’ absence. Continue playing smart football (minus Mangini’s decline of the penalty) and concentrate on beating the Rams. Boy, what a different feeling from last year…..thus far!
Report now is he’s out 2-3 weeks after groin surgery… according to New Jersey Online
That’s not that bad. While no doubt we’re better off with DH in there, BIG KRIS and D REVIS are our only absolutely irreplaceable’s
i like bowens. hes a solid presence.. hes no harris by any means. barton doesnt get the praises for being as solid as he is either. look for to the practice squad and see if we can find a decent fill in guy if not go to the waivers pick up a vet who can do the job.
