Buzz: DeAngelo Hall Ripples
For those of you excited about DeAngelo Hall’s cutting from Oakland, here’s something that will sadden you, and then make you clinically depressed.
The Jets Can’t Claim Him — To claim DeAngelo off waivers, I beleive the Jets would have to take his contract on as it now stands. It’s likely no other team will claim him either as that’s a large pill to swallow for most teams midseason. More than likely he’ll make the pass-through and then become unrestricted. Even if they could … would they? He might be a great player in his element, but from a pratical perspective, he just doesn’t seem the Mangini type to me.
Here’s Who’s Interested — Adam Schefter reported yesterday on the NFL blog that the Giants, Cowboys, Redskins, Patriots and Dolphins are all interested. DeAngelo might be a turd but he wants to win, which strikes fear into us at the thought of him joining a solid coaching staff in New England that so far this season has had a miserable secondary.

Basset, David Harris had surgery on his groin last night, They are saying he’s out 2-4 weeks.
thanks pete!
Well, if you assume for a moment that no one is going to be dumb enough to claim him off waivers and then, as you say, be obligated to pay him the ridiculous salary the Raiders agreed to, then I guess we have a chance, right?
I agree that he doesn’t strike me as a “Mangini guy”, though if Mangini is from the Belichick coaching tree, and he’s ok for him, why should we take the moral high ground?
Fact remains that our secondary does need some help. Lowery was benched in last week’s game, and has been struggling of late. Miller is, for whatever reason, persona non grata this season, and they apparently have no interest in seeing what Ahmad Carroll, the former starter and first round pick of the Packers can do, even in nickel and dime situations. Think about it..you sign Hall, then use Lowery in the slot (or even the other way around), and now we’re talking.
Anything that eliminates wus have to watch the back of Drew Coleman’s jersey 6 or 7 times a game should be considered progress.
Lowery needs to be converted to strong safety and play opposite Rhodes, I dont see him making it as an elite db because of his speed but hes good enough to go out there and make plays for us
obviously D Hall has lost a step if the Raiders cut him, I wouldnt spend big money on him, dont see this one happening
Guys Guys,
Give Lowery time to develop. He needs the time he is being used in the slot and in the corner position just like Revis was last year. Given Revis played better because of his speed and the rest of his metrics that are better than Lowery’s however LOWERY IS NOT A SHUTDOWN corner. WE DONT NEED A SHUTDOWN CORNER OTHER THAN REVIS. Lowery is a playmaker plain and simple. Give him the experience and the time to gel with Rhodes in the system all of you guys will be thinking hmmm doesn’t he remind you of Asante Samuel.

chris–revis isn’t as good as asomugha (best cb in nfl). if he didn’t work with raiders shut down corner, why would he work with the jets lesser shut down corner? would we want our pass defense to be as unstoppable as the raiders?
i think he might be a good candidate to play free safety though. reportedly, he has had trouble with all the man to man the raiders play and most of his picks in atlanta came when he could freelance in a zone scheme. why not try him at safety where he can freelance a lot more.
seriously you have got to be kidding me with this right? not only is he “not a mangini guy” as people love to throw that term around…we have one of the best backfields in football and this kid’s enormous price tag, even if renegotiated, is not worth the yards he’s already been burned for and the disruption that he’d bring to the chemistry FINALLY developing on this team…no way man, learn something from al davis mistake please.
i’m going to improve on my last statement and call that kid a cancer. thanks
I don’t want him on jets…but DON’T want him on Pats either…let’s hope NYG grab him and we win our LAST 5 games going into playoffs, get hot, and have a SUBWAY SUPERBOWL (of sorts) !! GO JETS!!!!
