Audible: Weather Looks Lovely

Mid 40s and pouring … looks like a nice night here in New England!

As you can see, we’re in for a rough night tonight when it comes to playing a football game. I’ve gotta say, this could make for a great smashmouth game. Do you think this favors one team versus the other?

  1. just makes me even more nervous…

    idk wat to think

  2. Last time we beat them was in the snow in Foxbourogh. It plays to our strengths. Being that we have a strong run game and a strong run defense. We will see tho.

  3. TJ all night long.
    GOT BICEPS?

  4. lol Chrebookie.

Good point about the running game … but the Pats have a good one too … the biggest discrepancy between these teams is the pats secondary … they’re terrible

though hopefully the counter is that wes welkahhh won’t be as effective.

  5. The weather favors the Pats. They want a low-scoring game that can turn on a mistake or special teams play. But, Favre’s cannon arm is rain proof. I’ll be the contrarian here. I think this is the gunslinger’s game:

    GOT BULLETS?

  6. alright serious advice needed. i’ve got wes welker and laverneus coles starting on my fantasy team, in light of the weather should i sit either in favor of steve breaston and/or kevin curtis

  7. Liam –

We are discussing a REAL game, with REAL implications surrounding the playoffs.
Nobody gives a shi% about Steve Breaston, Kevin Curtis or your fantasy team!!

  8. Ur fantasy WRs suck.

    Start Welker and Breaston

  9. The team with enough heart to not give up or be distracted by the elements and sufficiently well prepared to not make critical mistakes.

In other words, the better coached team.

    harlan

  10. I can’t imagine the weather effecting the game that much that Coles and Welker both wouldn’t perform as expected, or close to it. Breaston isn’t worth starting ever and Curtis is just as much as a gamble since he’s still getting in the swing of things.

(I think there’s room for both real and “fake” football discussion)

  11. The stars are lining up for the J-E-T-S tonight. Pound them hard and good… we have more talent and we want it more.

Just keep Favre in check. No DUMBA$$ chucks into the wind.

    We win 13-6.

  12. this has to help the jets

for one – the crowd wont be as much as a factor. some people wont go, and the ones who are there wont be as loud. 40 and raining is just about as miserable as it gets as a fan

the patsies are 7th in rush O while the jets are 9th. however, we are 5th vs stopping the rush and they are 12th. normally, in bad weather you run more, so i would give the advantage to the jets.

some analysts say bad weather gives the advantage to the pass game, since the offense knows where they are running (i.e. the route) and the defense doesnt. i tend to agree, but i would add the caveat and say it is more beneficial to deep routes – having a defender slip 20-30 yards downfield will result in a much bigger play than having one slip at the line. even though the jets have not showed it in a couple weeks, i would fully expect them to take more shots down field with double moves due to the combination of the weather and the pats secondary already being prone to the deep ball

    go jets!

  13. Breaston and Welker. Coles is boom or bust tonight. I have Cotchery riding pine tonight on my team. Good luck.

    Lets go Jets!!!

  14. Matt C,

You are an anrgy little one aren’t you. Tell me more about these “REAL implications” for you? Are you a hot dog salesman at the Meadowlands who stands to garner an extra pay check if the Jets make the playoffs? If so, I have a scarf you can borrow come January. Relax and try to enjoy the game, and the games that we play in becoming emotionally (and perhaps financially) involved in watching.

    Lets go Jets

  15. It will be BenJarvis Green-Ellis-Jenkins when its all over cause Kris gonna make him his b*tch. Thats the difference.

GOT 350lbs OF PURE TERROR with a drizzle of truffle oil?

  16. 360lbs

  17. SackDance:

Forget the rocket arm tonite. Farve must be effective and control the chains. We have been very effective on offense the last two games because Mangini has cut Farves passing from a high of 40 to 19 last week with only 1 (one ) INT the last two games.

I look for Jordan and Green-Ellis to try and pound the rock tonite. Ditto Thomas Jones, LW and Chatman for us. I posted that I was very nervous when our hated enemy sucked Jordan out of the black hole for a game like tonite’s, but feel confortable seeing now how our team has come toghether. I look for our short passing game to be effective and Keller to have a great day. Our Deffense will deliver us this win and possibly oneTD to top it off.
No more SHORT FIELD for the Pats due to shanks or pick(s), are you feeling me Farve. NO KNUCLEHEAD PLAYS and AT LAST, AT LAST, WE’LL BE FREE AT LAST and alone in first place.

  18. it could be 37lbs depending on what he had for lunch

  19. that was supposed 370lbs

  20. Lets also not underestimate the importance of special teams tonight. we were annihilated in the first game in the battle of field position. since then our special teams have rounded into much better shape. could be a huge factor tonight.

  21. Does anybody remember what happened the last time the Jets and Patriots played in the rain?

    The Jets won.

  22. T-Minus 5hrs and counting down

  23. Hank/naplessh….just fyi….Chatman is on IR, and I thought I read Jordan is out tonight, as is Sammy Morris.

  24. Hank, Chatman is out for the season.

Liam, bench Coles and then hopefully you will regret doing so tonight. Last minute changes always tend to burn you, so let the rest of us benefit.

  25. Ferraro41:

You are right. I stand corrected.

  26. It comes down to this….

Do the Jets have the BALLS to go up to New England and punsh the Pats in the mouth?

This is giong to be an old fashion slobber knocker folks…

  27. Kyle,

Your wrong. We played them last year in Foxborough in rain and cold weather and lost 20-10. The same score the patriots beat the Bills last week. Surprising how the Bills and Jets have their seasons turned around in one year.

  28. hey guys miller went to oakland

  29. I’ll take our QB in the rain FTW.

  30. Fonzie,

last year’s game was played in high winds, but no rain.

  31. hank/naplesh,

I don’t want to see Favre reined in like he was in game 2. The Jets need to score TDs and that means Favre has to test that weak secondary. If this is just a battle of running games and special teams, the Pats have a much better chance of winning…that’s how they won last time. I don’t want to see reckless throws, but I do want to see throws downfield.

  32. Tonite we earn the respect we deserve form the league and all fo its followers. i don;t know about you guys, but all of my no-jet fan friends bust my balls constantly and have yet to give them respect claiming we are “still not that good” We change it all tonite. jets 17- Pats 13

  33. I should have known that Justin Miller was gonna go to Oakland. They only accept guys that can run a 4.3 in the 40. Football skills are optional.

  34. expect another low scoring game (i’m jinxing myself it will probably be high scoring)

  35. hahaha chrebookie is hilarious… truffle oil lol

i think the jets are gonna go up there and smack these guys in the mouth. the only x-factor is if Mangold hurts his back again. It all starts up front, and both o and d lines are vets who don’t mind a little weather. expect a big night from TJ and some big-time playaction.

jenkins has given this D a swagger that it hasn’t had since, we’ll, as long as I can remember (i’m 23)

    28-14 good guys

  36. I’ve been watching the weather all day, it’s going to improve throughout the evening, some showeres yes but they are getting the worst of it now.

We’ll be able to throw it just fine. Go Play Action and Go Jets.

  37. JUST WANT TO REPOST MY TAKE ON TONIGHT:

Chrebookie, on November 12th, 2008 at 5:24 pm Said:

Wow people really going out on a limb with their 2pt JETS victory….. Grow some balls people.

    JETS 27- Pats 13

2- “Make me Feeley good” Field goals (that was really tough to actually bring myself to type)
1- Leon “To the House” Washington quick toss
1- Favre to Jericho Catchery deep pass
1- Favre to Chris “Money Maker” Baker from inside the 15

And thats how it will play-out boys.

  38. I agree with doug. I dont think the weather is going to be a huge factor which is a shame for us. If you look back at every game Cassel has played in…it has been ideal conditions. A wet ball is something that would be a MUCH bigger adjustment for Cassell than Favre. I think the Jets will test definitely throw some bombs. I also like a Brad Smith bomb during this game. All the subsequent play calling has been building to this. Lets go JETS!!!

  39. If the game is officiated fairly and we don’t have any backbreaking turnovers, we win. Period.

  40. All nonsense about who’s gonna do better in this crap. Unless rain stops (or we put bridgestones on everyone’s feet) there’ll be lots o’ slipping and sliding on both sides – along with missed tackles, blocks, fumbles, and ints…hopefully far less for us (and at less critical places and points) than for Patsies. In any event, hoping they’ve had field covered with a tarp.

Most of all main hope is that lady luck smiles on us, and we walk out of there healthy and victorious, as we are clearly the better team.

    GO JETS!

p.s. wonder how Hodges and Feeley will do in this?

  41. Lady Luck wears a Brady jersey……
We dont need no stinkin luck

  42. As long as my man *77 is in I think we will be ok. Keep Piouha on the sidelines devouring sandwiches as usual.

  43. Feely was an unsung hero last week. How clutch has he become? Will he be around after Nugent gets back>

  44. Favre thrives in poor weather conditions- I know it’s not going to be 32 and below but Favre has won 80% of those games-my point is that advantage to Favre in poor weather conditions. My concern is the speacial teams!

    Go JETS!!! I’m so pumped!!!

  45. SackDance99:

You’re Dead On how they won before, BUT the running game tranlsates to defenses and this is how we are going to win. Our defense, and ( may I remind you) Mangini is Dfensive coach first and foremost. So, he will bring it down to the most common denominator ie. stop the run, and run the ball. This is how you win games.

  46. Bent,

I cannot and will not argue with your logic (nor do I dare place my fantasy team above my beloved Jets), consider Coles benched.

    Lets go Jets

  47. SackDance99:

WE ARE NOT THE SAME TEAM THAT PLAYED THEM SEPT. 14th.

  48. just an update- the % of rain at game time has been down graded from 80% to 50%- to some who asked earlier- the field is not and will not be covered. The new field has a good drainage system.

  49. oh you mean the field they installed after we whooped that *ss in 2006.

we win today and they will have to build a dome.

  50. T-Minus 2hrs till the shift in divisional domination

  51. NFL station …Jets just came out to warm up. Time to get the first martini ready.

This weather is good for us…QB who played in Green Bay and Running back who played in Chicago.

  52. Hey

  53. Ty Warren inactive, Morris active..

  54. dave –

Feely 4-4 from long range in a 44 point win but misses a chip shot whenever it’s a close game…is that not the opposite of clutch?

Hank…stop posting under different aliases – it’s confusing.
