Blogosphere: Pats Fans React to Law Signing

by Bassett on November 13th, 2008 at 9:24 am

No apologies for what I write below, but sometimes I read things that are too good to pass up.  Am I poking Pats fans in the eye (I learned it by watching Wilfork!!!) intentionally?  Probably, but I just don’t care.

poorvictor.jpgThere’s such a fine line between clever and stupid. No matter how much you love the Jets, it’s still amusing and fun to watch Fitzy denigrate the Jets (NSFW language) on his semi-satirical TownieNews site, but then there’s just other fans that take themselves a little too seriously .. like say tattooing your dome with the Pats logo. Here are those fans for your viewing amusement.

I took a quick twirl around the blogosphere to see what Pats bloggers were writing about when it came to the bolstering of their secondary’s depth chart by adding Ty Law.

PatsBlog seems indignant

Could this just be Mangini playing mind games with Bill? And did they really have to do this on Troy Brown night at Foxboro? Hopefully Mangini has a little more class than to try to take any attention away from this special night for the Patriots and their organization by recognizing a team legend.

Reaction: Yeah that’s it. It’s mind games. It’s an attempt to dim Troy Brown’s moment in the sun … it has nothing to do with actually trying to beat the Patriots and one of the most lethal wide receiver combinations in the league.

Tannenbaum and Mangini probably got together and said “winning is important and our secondary needs a hand, but let’s forget about that crap and just figure out what one player could we sign that would really piss off Bill Belichick the most on Troy Brown Night.”

As far as ruining Troy Brown’s day? I respect the hell out of the guy, but get over yourself. If Brown’s legacy with fans would be so easily dimmed by signing Ty Law, that doesn’t say much for Pats fans respect for what Brown did for the team, or their attention span.

Here’s a little help Pat Fan … as frightening a notion this is, the world doesn’t revolve around trying to sully the Patriots legacy (as much as I wish it did) and laying down our arms in the name of chivalry to the morally superior Patriots of New England. Other teams actually try to win too, it’s as simple as that.

Here’s another gem from matt’s pats blog.

Jets coach Eric “back-stabbing” Mangini claims there is “definitely a chance” that Law could play against the Patriots this Thursday.

Reaction: Seriously, you’re going there? Let’s try not to take the moral high ground around the subject of betrayal when it comes to Bill Belichick. Okay?

Dude cheated on his wife for YEARS (with another dude’s wife, mind you), betrayed Leon Hess by taking a job and a cool million then quitting the next day, and has been known to *ahem* “misinterpret” NFL rules he’s normally able to quote verbatim from the rulebook at the drop of a hat.

But hey, for kicks we’ll go with your assessment of Mangini as a “backstabber.” Hopefully, now that Mangini has his team in place, you can start calling him a frontstabber as there’s no need to do otherwise.

Great article on the morons of Boston. I don’t think I’ve met a rational Patriots fan ever. What a bunch of friekan idiots.

We have to bet these guys by at least 30 points, eff them!

God I hate New England fans of any sport!

  5. avatar Joe B. says:

Pats fans are crazy. I don’t mean the good kind of crazy – passionate, knowledgable, sometimes irrational support of one’s team. I mean literally – paranoid, delusional, belligerent crazy.

Now you know what it’s like to live in my world (and Bassett’s too). I hear this stuff every day since everyone up here knows I am a Jets fan. The sad part is very few of them are holdovers from the Sulliavn years. Most of them did not become Pats fans until they won their first Superbowl. Most don’t know anything about the game. My friends who are Pats fans are actually realistic Pats fans, but they are rare.

    Bassett;

Why doesn’t Fitzy tell us how he truly feels. Again great info and thanks.

  8. avatar hank/naplesh says:

Mangini is very methodical and meticulous in what he does. He also has a sense of humor and this mixture alows him to think of all possibilities. I wont be surprised if all of the above reasons factored into his decision to sign law.

My son went to the Univ. of VT (UVM), when I referenced a Pats fan he said “dad he’s just another Mass-hole”. I’ll be watching from home tonight looking for all of TJB guys in the stands wearing GREEN! Jets 28, NE 17

  10. avatar Drew says:

Why did they plan T Brown night against the Jets?? Did they think we were the scrubs they can beat like homecoming? I hope we ring these clowns up for 40 tonight…..Cant wait to see Bill and his old wet sweatshirt walking to midfield to shake Mangini’s hand after a beating

I’m not going to make any predictions. I feel really good about this Jets squad, but this is the patriots. I’m trying to lay low until after the game is over. Hopefully I will have alot to say afterwards. I don’t like all the talk: Either people are saying this is a must win, (ie Francesa), or they’re saying we will definitely win. (ie Gary Meyers) I don’t like either of those discussions. We can all brag and talk smack after we’ve done it.

  12. avatar johnl says:

    prediction- jets 53 patriots 6

take it to the bank baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. avatar Marima says:

Troy Brown night was planned for a national audience, broadcast during Prime Time, that’s all. Nothing to do with the Jets, only the schedule.

The last Patriots’ prime time game on Sunday night against Denver was played in honor of Hall of Famer Andre Tippett.

  14. avatar Dan C says:

“Belichick is well known as a fan of the rock band Bon Jovi, who visited Patriots training camp on August 14, 2006. Their 2002 song “Bounce” is dedicated to Belichick.” – Bill’s wikipedia entry.

What sort of monster has the world brought forth? New Jersey, Bill Belichick and Bon Jovi together? No wonder why this stygian union has dominated these last few years!

    Pray for us all.

  15. avatar Joe B. says:

I think Mangini is telling these guys that if they only win one more game this year, make this be it.

Jets ride their improving defense and force Cassel into mistakes, 20-13.

  16. avatar Jet the Dog says:

All i want to see is Vernon G end Matt Cassels Career

  17. avatar dave says:

ha, pats fans that like to grumble about the jets “stealing” mangini from bellicheck need to wake up, good point about Lee Hess.

This is a dangerous game tonight. Going into week 2, i thought “well, there’s no way we can lose this one! Cassell hasn’t started a game since HS!”

Now it’s, “well there’s no way we can lose this one! Not only are they playing with a back up QB, they just lost their arguably best defensive player, and we’re rolling!” We cant lose tonight. If we lock down this win, we’re staring at the playoffs. 7-3 with games against SF, Seattle, and Denver….

  18. avatar dave says:

To clarify, this isn’t a must-win game, but it is in terms of not having to watch every remaining game this year with hair-pulling anxiety.

  19. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

    It’s big. Real big

Just a classless comment from a classless fan. No, I’m not grouping all Jets’ fans into the “classless” category, because, believe it or not, there are fans out there that have some morals. Yeah, the Patriots do have their fans that would say the same classless thing about Favre, but that’s because they have no respect for the game.

  21. avatar nyckage says:

wwo , another reason to hate the pats, and their fans

  22. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

God forbid we soil Troy Brown night. How many Pats fans were there before Parcells 7?

  23. avatar Mike from Poughkeepsie says:

I love how people take comments so literally. Rizzo23 is going to lose sleep tonight because a “blogger” writes he hopes Gholston ends Cassells career. RELAX DUDE!!

  24. avatar Dan C says:

Hey Rizzo’s website is the patriotsblog.net!

    GET HIM, BOYS!

  25. avatar BubbyBrister/shovelpass says:

I like Rizzo’s views, but then again, I like wet toilet seats…

  26. avatar Frank says:

Hey Rizzo, i never wish death on any player. But a torn ACL never killed anybody. Unless ur using Tom Brady’s doctor! And Tom decides he is gonna be in the building 2nite. but not for the Buffalo game? What a nice guy. GO Jets!!
