Dustin Keller is a Golden God

“I’m Dustin Keller, and I was drafted to embarrass you.”

NICE WIN!!! MORE LATER!

  1. Hallelujah!

  2. He won the game in overtime NOT FARVE!!!!!

  3. What more can any one ask for. !!!

  4. He brought the Jets from their own 15 yard line to the patriots 40 and AGAIN SHARE THE FOOTBALL FARVE SHARE THE FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!

  5. I have a golden nugget from the AFC East blog on ESPN posted by a Pats fan:

    mackotack1224 (11/13/2008 at 11:50 PM)

All things considered, I have never been more convinced of a team’s superiority in a loss. The Pats proved themselves better than the Jets. The Patriots will beat the Fins tomorrow and eventually win this division.

    Pats fans make me laugh.

  6. Words cannot describe the joy!!!!!

  7. Woooohooooo!

  8. keller =1st round gold
    gholston=1st round mold

I know I was a homer but we Should have drafted Mayo. He was a machine tonight. I will talk smack tomorrow at work thank you Brett, Dustin, and Feely.

FU Bob Sutton, prevent guru, and its push with schotty 1st half strong, 2nd half weak.
Great win, but I can’t take many more of these nail biters.

  9. That was too much. We always come out the wrong end of those games. Don’t know what the hell happened to pass rush in the 2nd half, let the Pats climb back in to the game. A great job, though, by the offense in the fourth and OT to win it for us. Incredibly clutch.

  10. Can’t believe how much Jets blew Pats out thru first 28 minutes. Once I saw the last two minutes of 2nd half I knew Jets were in trouble.

Even w/only a minute and a half to go I was cursing ManSchottenfreud conservatism by running 3 times, then going into a prevent that allowed the Moss TD.

O for almost whole 2nd half until that last drive was sad; just too predictable. Brady would have won that game by not missing Moss. Our secondary is just awful at times. Unless you have a D that is actually that good (think Ravens and Bears championship teams), you just can’t play prevent.

I give this game to Leon, Brett, Thomas, and Dustin who played a great first half and fortunately for us Brett now seems to have learned how to play ball control offense when it counts. But come on, wouldn’t it be nice for us to be able to run out the clock sometimes?

  11. Poor mackotack1224… I will bet anyone ten million dollars that the Pats will not beat the Fins tomorrow. Too much Harpoon IPA for mack.

  12. lol g1

  13. Modells just ordered 1,000 Keller jerseys…

  14. I need more games like last Sunday; my EKG is all out of whack at this point…

  15. “Ebb and Flow” will be used in a Miller Lite commercial. I guarantee it.

  16. Lastly, we now need to go and do the same to the Titans! Remember we were the original TITANS!!!

  17. Steve in Philly- my facebook friend and Pats fan just changed his facebook status to “that was a bulls

  18. The second half slump is typical of the Jets. What wasn’t typical is the OT drive which I don’t think any seasoned Jets fan ever expected. That is the clutchness that Favre brings to the Jets, and that is why we will make the playoffs.

  19. Steve in Philly- my facebook friend and Pats fan just changed his facebook status to “that was a bulls*** holding call”- typical Pats fan blaming the refs!

  20. Coaches ought to be fired for allowing a PREVENT Dee to secure a win. Good teams learned to finish off the wounded early to avoid any possible shift of momentum! Escape a close One!

    Go Jets!!!!

  21. Jetsfanfor life, my wife and I were gonna go and see the game again in nashville but our seats went from 47.50 a piece to 200.00 a piece for the Jet game. Gonna watch on big screen and hopefully talk alot of smack the next day at work.

  22. Ok, honestly. How would tonight have turned out if Pennington were QB instead of Favre?

IMHO, no way would it have been the same, but I’m curious how the rest of you feel.

  23. The first half Jets (especially the offense that mysteriously returned for the last two drives of the game) was far superior to the Pats.

The defense, on the other hand, was a mess. They were particularly bad when Jenkins was on the bench.

Sutton has to go away from that prevent, and Mangini needs to allow Bret to throw the short pass to run out the clock.

Lots to celebrate, but we still haven’t put it all together. Don’t expect much from the media. We got the win, but the respect won’t come unless we take down the Titans.

  24. good win

  25. GO JETS!!!! I love beating the cheating bastages on their home field!!!!!I have got to be up @4:00am and yet I can’t sleep!!!!

  26. Awful way to let them back into the game and force OT, but you have to be happy with the W. Hopefully if this will serve as a wakeup call and we’ll stop doing this prevent bullsh8t when we’re only up a score.

Guess we need to put up 31 points in the first half against Tenn. if we want a chance to stay in the game in the 2nd.

  27. We put up 34 points. We should be happy. The Pats did EVERYTHING they could do to try to win but we managed the game better. It was a thrilling win and a quality win in my book.

Lol Mel31602, I put up my sad Brady profile picture on facebook just a minute ago (It’s the picture of him walking off the field after his Super Bowl loss to the Giants). Already got 3-4 unfriendly comments. The thing I love about Jets fans is we know our place. If we lost, we would have just shut up. I can’t believe the Pats fans are out in full force, complaining about EVERYTHING in the game. You’d think they just lost the Super Bowl.

And we ruined Troy Brown Day! Oh noes!

  28. This win was a Brett Favre special and anyone who says otherwise has his head in his butt. That 4th quarter drive, all 7 minutes of it, was a thing of beauty. In OT, Keller made the catch on 3rd and 15, but how about the throw? How about a 119 QB rating? How about 3 victories on the road against our AFC East Division rivals? How about taking a deflated team on his back and marching the Jets right down the field for an OT win? How about 2 TDs and no INTs? I don’t know what Favre has to do to get some love on this blog, but he was and f-ing god tonight.

11 days that shook the world. Tonight the Pats, in 10 days the Titans!!!

  29. BOTTOM LINE – CHAD PENNINGTON DOES NOT DO THIS. FOR ALL YOU FAVRE HATERS, NOW YOU SEE WHY HE’S HERE. CHAD DOES NOT BRING THEM BACK.

  30. Sackdance99 , well said . Favre is the man.

  31. Steve in Philly, where is the facebook of which you speak? Can you please provide the link for our viewing pleasure?

  32. By the way, Jerod Mayo is a beast and it makes the Jets look like complete fools that they wasted the 6th pick on Gholston, who is a complete and utter bust, while the Pats pick a beast 4 slots later.

  33. Mayo was the Vols. You can see how bad they are without him.

  34. why does it alays have to be negative (they didnt pick mayo). Let them have mayo! We won and thats it

  35. Mayo played great but who was covering Keller tonight???? Oh by the way the idiots that drafted Gholsten also drafted Keller. Who along with Favre won an impossible game to win once OT started

  36. Huge win, I just did a shot of tequila to celebrate. This season can be real special!!!!

  37. http://photos-773.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v184/3/76/8810773/n8810773_38514389_3350.jpg

There you go. One of my favorite photos of my least favorite QBs.

And yes, Mayo is going to be giving us problems for years to come. His motor is impressive. You just KNOW that people will be making Mayo/Gholston comparisons in the future. For the sake of Vernon, he better have a great season next year- hopefully he can grow as much as Mario Williams did.

How great is this Dustin Keller pick looking now?

  38. Trading up to draft keller was a make up for drafting a overall 6th pick bust. Defend Gholston please. I would like to see the stats. He is a project at best. A verrryyyy expensive project i might add.

  39. Plus We had D Harris we didnt need Mayo the Pats did and drafted a good one. We need an OLB. We drafted one. We also needed a TE to stretch the field. Looks like a good deal for both teams

  40. Asl the Rams how C Long is playing. He is also learning a new position. Hilarious that the Jets just had the biggest win in 2 years and people still want to kill Gholsten after 10 games. Typical Jet fans

  41. Well it was a great game and it says something that we won when normally we would lose. But it troubles me that on the last play of the game we have single coverage on Randy Moss with a player who has not played football in 16 months and has practiced for exactly one day.

If that is the case, we must not be THAT good.

P.S. It was a great throw and great catch and well defended, but that’s beside the point.

  42. who here has to pinch themselves to make sure they are alive?

  43. I remember the Keller pick being absolutely panned by all the press. Not such a bad pick now…

  44. This team has GUTS. They may make it way too close, but unlike some Jet teams in the past, THEY HAVE GUTS, HEART.

Favre and Donkey Kong get the game balls, with special kudos to Leon and Cotch. Unbelievable win.

  45. Great game!

    Poor Troy Brown…

  46. Rich -

Agreed. If there is one thing to be lamented, it was the game-tying TD. HOW DO YOU COME OUT OF A TIMEOUT WITH TY LAW SINGLE-COVERING RANDY MOSS?! That was inexplicable.

With that said, I’m not dwelling on the negative. We just took the reins from the Pats. Loved to see Mangini hold onto Chairman Bill’s hand so he couldn’t run back to the locker room and hide. YES, YES, YES!!!

  47. It is clear to me that the Pats made better 2nd half adjustments than the Jets. We were out-coached and if not for Favre’s savvy, we would not have won this game.

  48. Rich, sometimes you have to tip your hat to a great player. Law had great coverage and Moss made a catch that was barely a TD. Why don’t you blame Sutton/Mangini deciding to rush 3 when the series before they rushed 4 with Jenkins man on against Mankins and abusing him? I don’t mind the prevent D, but why not rush 4 when it was obvious the Pats OL couldn’t handle it?

Yet, for every misstep, the Pats made errors, too. Bottom line, the Jets won a game that they had let slip away. How many times have we said that before? A tremendous win…just awesome!!!

  49. SackDance99:

Stop with the mancrush on Farve: He was outplayed by a rookie QB. Look at their stats. You are right though, he and Keller pulled out the game. It’s about time !!!

  50. Dr. Z: “I put the Pats above the Jets because that wasn’t a convincing win. Oh, but wait, The Red just put some Raman on the stove!”

Peter King: “It’s still official: the Pats are going to the playoffs. After Cassell’s career high performance, this team has all it takes. I don’t think one blown call should decide a game. The Jets crashed and burned on this one. Too bad. They had a chance to make a statement. All they got was a win.”

The Typical Jets Fan: “see comments above about the prevent defense and the lack of offense in the third quarter…”

  51. FAVRE WAS OUTPLAYED BY CASSEL!!!!!! Are u insane………Cassel was down the whole game and had to throw 50 times. Favre had control of this game the entire football game. Favre outplayed Cassel. I don’t care that he threw for 400 yards. He lost, and Favre won the game and had the big drive. Give the HALL-OF-FAMER some credit…..he lead the team on 2 fantastic drives for the game winning score.

Cassel is lucky he has Randy Moss cause if he was the QB for the Detriot Lions, he would be a nobody

  52. After they tied the game for the first time, the Jets of old wouldve let the game slip away. But this time we came back not once but twice to take the lead and win it against a belichick team.
Anyone thought that the game was over once we had a 24-6 lead must be out of their mind. This is NE.
And these are the ghosts of past which we exorcised today. I’m gonna cherish this for some time now before thinking of the Titans.

  53. Are you serious saying Favre was outplayed? How is it his fault the Defense let Cassel get 400 yards? So Favre shoudl have thrown for 401 yards? Favre was brilliant, not a single bad, scary Favre-type pass. I was extremely impressed because he scared the crap out of me going in and he was phenomenal.

  54. I recall across the draft boards of all the teams Gholston was unanimously ranked higher than Mayo (rumor was that Belichick wanted VG at 7) There were 4-5 elite talents in this year’s draft: The Longs, McFadden, Dorsey and Ryan (although Ryan was questionable). Jets had the pick no one wanted.
But all of this is irrelevant because we beat the pats.

    It’s a great day

  55. Hank/Naples, he was outplayed? Favre completed a higher percentage of his passes, completed more 3rd down plays, kept the Jets offense on the field longer, had a higher QB rating and won the game. Favre was the guy on the road. Cassell played great, but Collingsworth and any other objective viewer knew who was the better QB. Next, you’ll tell me Chad would’ve done better.

  56. Cassel lead a great 4th quarter drive to tie the game? Except for the Moss pass (which was a nice pass), I could have hit those receivers the way the Jets were playing D. Cassel did not show me much since the Jets were not really playing tough D. He still can’t hit the Deep ball to Moss

  57. Hated the 3 man rush. Hated the shell game we went into. Doesn’t mater – what a win, enjoy it Jet fans! We won the game we ALWAYS lose. Enjoy this!.

  58. GOO JETSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  59. Offensive Review
    Favre – A Outstanding game
Jones – B+ good game; cant power himself for the extra yards
Washington – A+ He’s the offensive MVP so far
Cotchery – B great catches, bad fumble
Keller – A- clutch catches and great awareness of the 1st down marker…dropped a td pass
Coles – B – made the catches when thrown to him
Offensive line – B+ Favre want pressured much; running game average over 3.5/carry

  60. Feeling strong for the first time since ‘97.

  61. We beat the Pats in New England. The rest is all noise. Enjoy it boys. We’re in the drivers seat.

  62. That win was a relief and it feels so good! I can now give a little back to the Pats fans all around me.

After all the good feelings about the win, there is the inevitable discussion of the 3rd/4th quarters. I absolutely think it is time for Sutton to tear the pages with the Prevent Defense out of the playbook. It doesn’t work for us, especially against a team with a deep WR corps like the Pats. We need to keep the pressure on.

  63. What I can’t figure out is why the Pats didn’t go for 2 after the Moss TD. They had the momentum and could have won outright. I’m glad they didn’t but that’s what I would have done in that position

  64. STOP COMPLAINING. We just won a huge game and we are in first place! The defense looked bad, but given the position they were in, the coaches have to be blamed for playing too much prevent defenses. Dustin Keller is the truth. Gholsten doesnt get enough playing time to declare him a bust, he may be a project, but he’s a project with an extreme amount of talent. Im sure if he were playing a lot of snaps, he would be making more plays. You cant expect a guy to come on the field for a few plays a game and make big plays, it doesnt work like that. Mario Williams and Gaines Adams both had bad rookie seasons, while playing a full amount of snaps. Gholsten’s time will come, and when it does, a lot of you will be looking stupid,

  65. My heartrate was so bad I considered taking a muscle relaxer. My wife was actually concerned that I would have a stroke. I’m so glad the jets got this one.
I may have sewed the keys had I needed an ambulance.

  66. Anybody have the quote where Favre says something along the lines of “People were ready to say ‘Same Old Jets’, well they ain’t sayin’ that no more”?

Trying to find the exact quote. It was awesome.

  67. i was thinking the same thing…. was real worried the pats would go for 2 at the end. but it was the right call by belicheck. if they get the toss, they probably win it.

  68. How about not letting Matt Cassel look like Steve Young and throwing for 400yds and 3tds with 70yds rushing???

I swear if Brady was playing we would have had the game wrapped earlier. Did you not see how many plays Cassell made on the run?? Ellis had a sure sack just before the game ended if it wasnt for Cassell bootlegging. He did that at least a dozen times in the game. We have to contain him and put a spy on him

  69. Jeff -

Take your Debbie Downer routine elsewhere. We just finally got the monkey off of our back and took the reins of the division from the archrival Patriots. Of course there’s room for improvement and I’m not pleased with certain things, but if you can’t be happy after this win, you never will be. FIRST PLACE JETS!!!

  70. i havent read any comments….so i am sorry if this offends anyone, or repeats a previous post…

look…the game was sick. an unbelievable finish to a great rivalry game with a TON on the line. i am of course stoked we won.

BUT…to have a team play a near perfect game on offense in the first half…loved the wildcat / option with brad smith…..and follow that up with a TRAIN WRECK of a second half…save the drive that put us up 7 late of course…an absolute TRAIN WRECK OF AN OFFENSE IN THE SECOND HALF.

    that is one joke.

the second joke would have been losing the game b/c the pats tied the game on a 16-17 yd td pass….on the last play….TO RANDY MOSS WITH TY LAW WHO WE SIGNED 48 HOURS AGO IN SINGLE COVERAGE.

the throw was sick, as was the catch…. but its a joke that it happened.

as it is….those are still 2 JOKES that are still a fact:

the coaching is still not equal to the level of talent on this team…..schottenheimer the only guy who can be brilliant and a complete loser in the same game.

and only this team can make u feel RELIEVED that u won….b/c u knew it was a game we should have won with ease the way we played in the first half.

  71. Don’t forget we won this without our middle linebacker

  72. Sackdance99-Hank is the Rich Kotite of the Jets blog

Still the hate on Favre. You know who you are and you are pathetic. Now the whole nation knows why we brought Favre in. He just got us over the hump in a game where Sutton and Mangini gave the Pats every opp. to get back in it. Time after time he answered the bell.
I really enjoy 99% of the fans on this site, but the haters make me absolutely sick, even after that game they still rain on everyone’s parade and they supposedly root for the same team. That is the ignorant mentality that has plauged this franchise for years. Bad karma, bad vibes. Whats funny is when the Jets win with a great performance by Brett they leave a baseless, stupid comment then run for the hills like cowards.
Basically Im sayin that all the haters out there are out of arguements. They have just been officially shut down. You people are fair weather, ignorant, cojone-less, classless cowards that really dont deserve to root for the team we have now.

  73. Ed said “Feeling strong for the first time since ‘97.”

    Erm…I think you mean 1998? ;o)

  74. First and 4-most… The Jets needed this win for confidence. As Jets fans, if we can beat the Pats, Bills, and Dolphins on the road then we have to be feeling good about our chances of winning this division. Regardless if Cassel put up better STATS than Favre, Favre had the higher qb rating by like 16 points and didn’t miss a wide open pass to Randy Moss for an easy touchdown. Winners make that pass. Jones carried the pall 30 times and got over 100 yards (Got the goaline tuddy this week as well unlike week 2) Cotchery made 2 really big plays and I can’t say enough about Keller and Kris Jenkins.

we have 6 games remaining — Titans, Broncos, Bills, 49ers, Seahawks and Dolphins. If we play well and beat the teams we are supposed to (I don’t think beating the Titans is pushing it, we are good against the run and we will make Kerry “i have one game over 200 yards passing this season” Collins beat us) we will finish up 12-4 and possibly have a first round bye. I know we need to take it one game at a time but we have that swagger right now.

  75. Sackdance99:

I am giving Farve and Keller credit for winning this game. And you are right, this was a Farve special type of game also must tell you that I had a sense (albeit small, INT. jitters you know) of confidence that he would pull it out for us. Look, I have said from the start that Farve will give us one possibly two more wins than we woul’ve had and this could be one of them.

However, I still believe Cassell had a better game than Farve for a couple of reasons. I now he had a lower rating but not only did he beat Farve on passing 3rd down conversions, but also got two 4th down conv. by himself. Casell got really no help with the running game, he was resposible for 90% of his team TOTAL offense under tremendous pressure to bring his team to tie tthe score. And last but not least, he is just a rook while Farve is a (well) well seasoned veteran.

  76. Can we not say that Sutton and Mangini tried to let them back in the game? Our offense was futile in the 3rd qtr. You guys saw it. It was slow and set a bad tempo for the second half. Did you see Mangini’s eyes? He hasn’t slept. Could be the baby or the fact that his team had won 3 straight games and had to go into Foxborough on a short week and take the division lead. Other than Moss’s touchdown the D did all it could to limit the WRs. I will hear and read no neighsayers! One more win and we double last years total. We have a long week to prep for the Titans, but I hope they enjoy today. I know I’ve got more pep in my step.

  77. Oh and Dustin Keller is a golden god! He is starting to deserve a look for OROY.

  78. I am hijacking this blog.
I have been following Brett Favre since 1992, and thanks to him the Jets are a vastly improved brand image nationwide. The last time the Jets were so loved nationally was 98. I laugh at the Favre haters here – but really these guys have no clue. Those of us who have been following football since the 70s (I am 40) know that Brett is a very very special player. I am now following the Jets VERY closely, because wherever Brett goes, I follow. It’s not just the plays on the field, but he inspires the team to want to do everything to win. Hell, he inspires me – an old guy – to keep myself in ultimate condition, overcome my stupidity – and win in life.

You haters probably are not aware of how he has truly profoundly changed the Packers franchise, and even the NFL. It was obviously best for both sides that they parted ways, and it’s a bonus to see the “prima donna” LOL in NY in the spotlight that he has merited.

Brett gives hope to a lot of us out here struggling to stay relevant in our careers as we grow older. And his teammates probably agree with me that he is an inspiration.

No offense to Pennington – one of the most mentally brilliant QBs I have ever seen and heard. I live down in Miami, and Chad fits the South Florida culture extremely well. Got to give a little love to Chad.

  79. Some people have made a decision that they are not going to like the guy no matter what he accomplishes. To each his own. But Favre’s post game comments about the 3rd and 15 said it all when he related he saw BB telling the secondary to play deeper, opening up the seam to Keller. When was the last time you think a coach told his secondary to play deeper against the Jets?

  80. IM sick of the haters. Favre is awesome, if you dont like him stop rooting for the jets, and stop writing on this blog.

  81. we should be 8 -2

  82. Green Guy,
Im not saying that Mangini is not our guy. I happen to think there is no other guy to be the head coach out there. All im saying is Cassel is a young agile QB who is deadly accurate on everything inside 20 yards. He has trouble throwing the deep ball and we didnt attack. All Im saying is that we were really TIGHT on defense in the 4th quarter. My comment was too harsh on Mangini. He cant tackle Casell on 4th and 1 with 8 secs left. D Bow was right there and he whiffed
If you read my posts 90% of them are supportive and constructive. However I really killed Schott and Sutton. Schott has redeemed himself and has been brilliant since Buffalo. I was wrong about him. Sutton however will not be back next season. Its not a secret Mangini wants one of his boys, like Rob Ryan to run the d, and i dont blame him.
But it doesnt matter because no one is perfect and the offensive gameplan was great. We won, Brett, DK, Cotch and the line stepped up and we are in first place. Im on board with TANGINI and Schott and with whatever direction they choose to go. Im also with any TRUE Jets fans who’s down with the team we have RIGHT NOW. Excluding the two jerks, I value and respect everyone’s input on this blog. J E T S JETS JETS JETS

  83. did we play better than the pats?

  84. Dustin Keller is the absolute truth!!! i’m excited that he is getting more looks!

    GOOD GAME BIG BROTHER!!!

and I can’t wait to see what you do with the Titans next week.

p.s. SEEMS LIKE JUST YESTERDAY YOU WERE PISSING THE BED… and now you’re a franchise beast! haha Love Ya

  85. Dustin caught that 3rd and 15 ball about a yard short of the first down and the defender was right there, in good position to drop him. He lunged forward for the first. For a rookie to have that kind of feel for the first down marker is pretty incredible. Good job Dustin!

  86. Bottom line, the players won that game and the coaching did not.

Vintage Favre, of course… yada yada

The team is playing together. The two losses in the beginning of the year can be blamed on a new team just not knowing how to play well together (and the three rushes in a row on first of goal). I think we are looking good as a team.

I think the coaches themselves don’t realize how good of a team we are and just don’t have the confidence to gamble. Hopefully they realize it soon. Trust Favre, you have to. Take him for what he is, a guy that gambles and will win 8 out of 10 times. Unfortunately, those two other times will be costly, but the other 8 will be so sweet and worth it.

    p.s. Dustin, is this true?

  87. Fellow jet fans,
We got the win, thats the most important thing. Someone should tell Peter King that this is the NFL not the NCAA, and fortunately for us a team doesn’t advance to the post season based on strength of victory but rather on wins and losses. Furthermore, a team grows more when faced with adversity, I personally liked that we won a close overtime game against a team that seems to be like arnold from the terminator (thats a game we would’ve lost in the past).
If Favre continues to play this smart football and that freak Jenkins can remain in good health we can go deep into the playoffs.
Dustin Keller is super legit, I think he can be the premier recieveing TE in the league for years provided we get a good qb after the favre eror.
One more thing, dealing with the Mayo kid twice a year for possibly the next decade guarantees my future membership in the hairclub for men… (really wish we drafted him)
    PS GO JETS
