D. Rose is Ramblin’ : Romeo, O Romeo!
Romeo, O Romeo….
Every time I turn on the TV the “experts” are saying that Romeo is out in Cleveland after this year. I have made it clear that even with our improved defense I still am not a fan of Sutton and his scheming. Last weeks effort against the Patriots was good, but I saw a lot of flaws. Looking back on Sutton’s career the results are not so stellar. His record at Army was 44-54-1 according to the NYJ’s website. As we have seen in previous years the defense has gotten better when Mangini takes a more hands on approach. So, this got me thinking, would Romeo come run the defense for Mangini?
This is why I think it would be a great idea:
1. He has great experience with the 3-4. He knows the ins and outs of the defense and the ins and outs of Bellicheck. Who better to help little Bill figure out big Bill then the old DC of the NEP himself?
2. It would really, really, really piss off those clowns in New England. Can you imagine the headlines if Romeo came to New York? It would be priceless. They’d probably say something stupid, and I would laugh at them.
-Feel free to suggest your own headline in the comments section ala Boomer and Carton
3. Rob Ryan is currently running a 4-3 scheme. His name was the named mentioned to replace Sutton this year, but how long has it been since he’s run a 3-4 defense? His last year with the Pats was 2003. So that’s 5 years of mostly 4-3 in Oakland. Maybe he’s a bit rusty?
4. I like fat guys. I have a gut myself and I can always appreciate fat guys. I think Mangini was at his best when he was fatter. Last year he was thin and look at what happened! Coincidence, I think not!

I <3 Fat guys!
5. I don’t see him being as passive as Sutton is at the moment. I wrote a piece a long time ago about how much the prevent stinks once again I was proven right. Ban the prevent!

are you crazy? we just won the biggest game of the past year+ and you’re talking about replacing our d-coordinator. dude, get a life.
on another note, is anyone else a little tired of detroit on thanksgiving. enough is enough. why do we consistently have to watch 2 dome teams play ball? i’ll take at soldier field or at lambeau on thanksgiving.
Resigned this year, and dropped the next?

Good points my man. I myself am highly critcal of Sutton and do not believe he is anything more than a position coach in the NFL. The only reason he hung around from the Herm Edwards era is because he was supposed to help ease us from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and his familiarity with the players. The only reason he has a job right now is Al Davis. Any other owner and Rob Ryan is our D Cord. Another question that should be asked is who else would give Sutton a job as D Cord. in the NFL? Probably no one. Sutton is probably a nice man but he’s a mediocre coach.
Romeo would be a perfect fit for our D. I would feel alot more comfortable in a slugfest playoff game with Romeo at the helm than Bob Sutton. If the Jets make a serious playoff push I see Mangini possibly taking over the play calling duties. I just don’t trust the guy in any way to be a championship caliber coach.
i said two weeks ago…crennel will be our DC next year, and charlie weiss will be our OC
Not sure if Romeo would want to play second banana to Mangini after he was his boss for those years in New England. Same goes for Weiss. These guys can probably still get HC jobs in the league or NCAA. I do not like Sutton or his passive approch but we are 7-3. Not sure I really concerened about Sutton right now.
Callahan will be our OC next year, not Weis.
And I know he’s good with the 3-4, but I don’t know that Crennel will come here for many reasons, not the least of which is his loyalty to Belichick. Look where it got Mangini.
But I agree that it’s time for Sutton to go
even if crennel was forced out in cleveland, he’d go to ne or miami first. those guys are his contemporaries.
fire sutton!
oh and jojo……i think you need to get a life if your still ridin that victory last week, it was good, but its because of your beloved d-coordinator that you cant let go of why we alomst lost! smarten up
There’s a pretty good 3-4 D-coordinator in a suit that needs to be talked off the Golden Gate bridge right now.
How about Nolan to take over the D, if Sutton is put out to pasture?
jim…..odds on crennel AND weiss???? wow…. 100-1.
bet u a buck…
Sutton and Schott need to go. Between the 3 man rush and the 3rd and 2 shotgun formation!!! Is droping back Pace really helping us that much and is going to a pass only formation negate the possibility of us running and makes us one dimentional which is what the D wants to be anyways?!!?
Between Romeo, Nolan, and Wade, there might be three former 3-4 head coaches all looking for jobs. But, I tend to think that Belichick will hire Romeo back first if he becomes free and wants to be a D-Coordinator again.
I think the only way our 2 coord’s stay is if we win the SB. Short of that, I say there is a 99% chance we replace one, and a 75% chance we replace both. I loved the Callahan hiring for that very reason. If not next year, soon after he will be our OC. Lots of candidates for DC. Most of them look to be a “no-brainer” over Sutton. Don’t forget, this Jets team is very aggressive at upgrading every area, from the FO down to the water boy. If something better is available, they will make the switch.
You guys are delusional. If you could get through the gate of The Fort, you’d shut up and call everybody “Sir.” Any talk of firing anybody for the job they’ve done certainly wouldn’t come because anybody in a position to do so would take your advice. Their job is not as easy as you think.
You can’t overlook the fact that Romeo and Mangin are very close friends. That could go a long way.
Hasn’t Cleveland blown a lot of leads this year and had players accuse one another of “quitting?” Regardless of what he did in NE, that’s not exactly the greatest resume enhancer for a DC.
I’d still say Ryan’s the favorite to replace Sutton IF, he gets replaced, which I don’t think is a foregone conclusion. Particularly if the Jets get deep into the playoffs. If they do, Schottenheimer may very well be offered a HC job somewhere. In that case, my money’s also on Callahan to step into the job. Assuming no one offers him another HC position.
Romeo lived in Eric’s house for 6 months so these guys are pretty tight. Before each Cleveland game we read articles on how they still stay in touch so this is a real possibility. As for Charlie Weis, you can have him, he’s an ego maniac who pissed off Notre Dame and the alumni all the way up to the pope.
Would Romeo what to go back to NE?? I think he’d say “been there, done that” let me get a fresh start with a program on the rise.
Detroit losing on Thanksgiving is a tradition for me. I don’t know if that should change. I know having the Jets on Thanksgiving is bad because I looked like an @$$ in front of my GFs family because of last years whalloping in Dallas.
Billvv, I don’t think anyone believes the coord jobs are easy. I certainly don’t. But if an opportunity to upgrade presents itself, the Jets have shown they will be aggressive. If Romeo was available, I have to believe the Jets would try everything they could to get him.
Leon blocking Adalius Thomas and Calvin Pace covering Watson down field is just awful coaching. If it wasn’t for Farve’s game winning drives in NE and KC we would easily be at 5-5. Would anyone care to have Hackett back?
I agree, Sutton is holding us back. None of us is sure if he is doing the right thing with Gholston, either. But, we are a possible Playoff team. Now is not the time to start talking about what we can do next year. If you have something that we could do right now, I would love to hear it.
What you are doing is the same thing as talking about who we can draft next year. Who cares. We have to beat Tennessee, which is the biggest game of the year. Lot’s of football left, Drosea. Keep your eye on the prize.
hey – no doubt weiss is a jerk….big time….but he can call plays…and hes got rings to prove it
Nothing on the CS is changing if the season goes the way we hope.
Pete, the call is to fire the coord without any idea of what the replacement actually brings that would be better. Not even success for one team means anything to another team. The fluctuations from games to game, player to player, are too great to judge that somebody is failing and that replacing them and them alone would fix the problem. It’s delusional!
Pete, think of Ted Cottrell as an example.
Harvlis has it right. No coord is getting replaced for months, if at all.
Those shotguns on 3rd and 2 is because Favre requested it, from what I read.
