Quick Look: Jets at Titans

Here’s some re-vamped quick notes on the game this weekend I gleaned from the NFL’s Media site.

Brett Favre and Kerry Collins are two of the oldest starting QBs in the league (Favre, 39; Collins, 35) and are proving that age is just a number by taking their teams to the top of their conference at present (tied with the Steelers).

Favre, has not thrown an interception in two games, will take on a pass defense that will show him different coverages during the game, man, zone and a mixture both. The Titans have 15 interceptions so far this season, tied for second with Baltimore, while Favre still leads the league in interceptions with 12 but has been sacked only four times in the past four games, a statistic that has led to his throwing less interceptions.

The Titans lead the league in turnover differential (+10), and Kerry Collins deserves some credit for that wide margin because he has only thrown four interceptions during his time as a starter. He gets plenty of protection, being sacked the fewest times (5) among the league’s top-20 passers.

When the Jets played the Rams, Jets DT Kris Jenkins told Fox sideline analyst Tony Siragusa that he was looking forward to going up against one of the league’s best centers and former Jet C Kevin Mawae.

  1. The Jet turnovers have everything to do with the play-calling. When the play-calling takes advantage of our running game, which it has for the past three weeks – Favre has more time. The opposing defense is kept on it’s toes because they know TJ can do some damage if they forget about him.

The team seems to be coming together. That has a lot to do with the O-line learning each other. Once that became apparent, the running game took off. Now, we have to run it down Tennessee’s throat. Tony Richardson is a great blocking FB. It is no wonder that every back that follows him gains over 1000 yards. He has to be on the field, most of the time. if Favre is throwing, Richardson is the added protection that gives him the time he needs. Given time, there are not many teams that can stop Favre.

On Defense, we have to pressure Collins. If we sit back, we might as well not show up. This is going to be a big game for Kerry Rhodes, I feel it.

    Go Jets.

  2. having two lock down corners will help put pressure on collins. Now all we need to do is stop the TEs for the Titans. I wish we had more than one view per play on the screen. we should have different angles to watch. I would like to see what scheme Mangini comes up w/ to stop the run. He will again be called Mangenious after Sunday!!

  3. This is where signing Ty Law works soo well for us. Since he can cover the big TE’s and he doesnt need breakaway speed to do that.

  4. Jets!

OK! I am a cheese head (Wisconsin). Here’s how I see it! The Jets defense shows true signs of greatness. They are going to have to rattle that young QB. With Law, put your big boy in the center of the line on nickle more often and have the line pin back the ears. Don’t go into prevent “D” to early. Attack!!!!!! more then any other game played this year. Now the Jets offense. You can have a great strategy for the game. That good tight end you have has to grab the short fast balls then you will open up Coles and the others. He is one of the toughest I have seen after the grab. Open up with the short fast passing game and that will get the Titan “D” line frustrated. They will try to stunt more and that will open up the running game. They will get sloppy about staying in the lanes when they are going after Brett. Be quick and keep the Titans “D” line off balance. Get those young boys to over pursue and put the running game down the gut (Jones ya!). Break them!!! Then the offensive line can have some fun! They are dam good and getting better all the time. (did mean great).

Jets special team we know they will give them hell!

I have been watching Brett since he started playing. You have a good team and the Titans have absolutely no idea how good. Given a chance, Brett will slice and dice the Titans. I can tell that Brett really believes in the team. He has got all the nerves in check for the team. You guys are better then you think! Greatness is in your hands. Ha yes! the underdogs! Best spot to be in. You can take it all if you want! This is no BS!

Just remember have some fun. When you take it all just go over to Brett and hit him in the nuts for laughs. Don’t worry he will understand! He will try to get you back so stay on guard!

This is from a die hard Packer fan that say’s this year “GO JETS”!

  5. Excellent analysis. The Titans will prove a tougher challenge for Favre and the Jets’ passing game than the Patriots and their inexperience in the secondary last week; but remember that a number of years ago the Ravens came into Lambeau with one of the greatest defensive units of all time, and Favre thrashed them. I think the Packers scored 35 points. This may be another moment for him to rise to the occasion against a formidable opponent (although on the road).
