Not Exactly Playoff Scenarios
While every Jet fan in America (and overseas) will instantly remind me that looking ahead to the playoffs is a dangerous thing and invites bad karma, some analysis is in order for us to know who to root for in the coming few weeks.
Let’s start off with some things we would like to see.
1. NO PATRIOTS: No Jet fan on earth wants Belichick to make the playoffs. If you just became a Jets’ fan, here’s why. Because a) his team knows the Jets really well and always plays it tough, b) his team has a lot of veterans who expect to win and who have playoff experience, c) he is a humorless jerk, d) he cheats, e) we’d all just love to see New England fans crushed and changing the channel when Sportscenter is on starting in early January for fear they might hear how good the Jets are.
2. NO COLTS: No Jet fan wants the Colts to make the playoffs because of Manning and because they play the no-huddle, which might offset our size matchup with their offensive line.
3. A BYE, PLEASE: We’d love the bye. Few coaches take better advantage of time off than Mangini and it would be nice to have an extra week for the older players (one in particular) to rest and heal. I’ll take the Jets over anyone given two weeks to prepare.
So how do we get the outcome we want considering the teams in a position to make the playoffs? First, let’s consider the division winners.
In the AFC East, let’s assume the Jets win out. While they might get picked off, particularly by a division opponent, Mangini’s teams, judging by 2006, do not slip once they start believing in themselves. In 2006, they were 5-5 with a far weaker team in week eleven and went 5-1 thereafter only losing to the Bills. This year’s Bills are not improving and they have nowhere’s near the confidence that the 2006 team had. I don’t believe in the Dolphins and the two west coast games don’t scare me much. So, if the Jets win out or even lose one of the next five, they win the division on record or tiebreakers.
Denver is liable to win the West. They now have a two game lead and San Diego can still blow games in a variety of ways. Whoever wins is probably first week fodder anyhow but one of them makes the playoffs even if they have a losing record. Tennessee, with an easy schedule, probably can not be caught by Indianapolis. They are almost guaranteed to win 13 by week 16 and, even if they lose their last two to Pittsburgh and Indy, they would still finish ahead of Indy by a game at 13-3, even if Indy wins out. This leaves the North, which will be very competitive since both Pittsburgh and Baltimore have tough remaining schedules.
So how do we get what we want?
The four division leaders make the playoffs. That’s likely to be the Jets, Steelers, Titans and Broncos, although the Ravens could make it interesting. That leaves two slots for wildcards. Who are they going to be?
Jets’ fans have to allow that Indy will probably make the playoffs. They are 7-4 with games against Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and Jacksonville coming up before the matchup in week seventeen against the Titans. Let’s assume they’re 11-4 going into the last week. Who do we want to win the finale? Simple answer: Indy. We want this on the theory that we’d rather face the Colts than the Patriots. The Pats, after next weeks’ tough game against Pittsburgh, have Seattle, Oakland, Arizona and Buffalo. The Cardinals might give them some trouble. I would imagine they have one more loss in them by the final week. Win out or one loss, we still can expect them to finish with roughly the same record as the Colts. Since the Colts would win the tiebreaker, we would want them to be edged out on head-to-head.
So, if we want to keep the Pats out of the playoffs, we have to root for Indy and the AFC North teams. Go Pittsburgh. Go Ravens. The Ravens have the tiebreaker over the Pats with only three conference losses and two easily winnable conference games (against JAX and Cincinnati) other than the head-to-head game with Pittsburgh. The Pats already have four conference losses thanks to the Jets.
So we want the Steelers to win next week and we want the Ravens to win out. For the bye, we’d still like to see the Steelers lose to a non-conference opponent (in case they finish with the same record as the Patriots) to knock them down to an inferior record than the Jets since they have the tiebreaker over us with only one conference loss.
So root for Indy and the Ravens and let’s hope the Steelers and the Cardinals can beat up the Patriots. Either way, there are a number of scenarios where the Pats can win out and still miss the playoffs. Meanwhile, if we take care of business, we’ve got a chance to get what we want. That would be nice, for a change.

Great piece.
I say we end up 12-4. that may be good enough for the 2 seed. Great win yesterday. Go Jets -
I am much more interested in securing the 2nd seed than anything else.
With that as context, the most ideal scenario, IMHO, would be the Jets winning out their remaining games, then both Pittsburgh AND New England losing at least once more. That would provide the Jets the # 2 seed, as well as put New England in serious jeopardy of even making the playoffs. Hatred of the HC of NE aside, mMore than any other team, they are still the team that scares me the most, the team I least want to see in the post-season. I think Indy is a close second. They have the kind of dynamic passing attack that has given the Jets fits this season.
So with that in mind, and looking at the remaining schedule, I think Pittsburgh is likely to lose another game even outside off the NE game, while if New England beats Pittsburgh, I can easily see them running the table the rest of the way. Thus, I think I’m rooting for Pittsburgh to stick a fork in New England, then hope the Titans, Ravens or Cowboys can give them their 4th loss.
But again, all of this is moot if the Jets can’t beat teams that they need and should beat, especially if they want to be SB contenders.

Patriots are dangerous…they will always be dangerous while Belichik’s a head coach. If there are only a few names better at preparing for games than Mangini than Bill is at the top of the list. And playing the same team 3 times makes it alot more even than playing a team for the first time of the season.
The colts have 7 wins only because they have Manning…they have (i think) 4 wins from playing behind with less than 2 min left in the game. I think we could build a big enough lead to make sure thats not even an option.
Years of Patriot success.and years of our ineffectiveness against them makes me worry and I just don’t trust Belichick.
-
i never look forward to the pats for the reason that they always like weiss said play us tough… we all thought the game was over 1st half… id rather have the colts… we have good times against them in the playoffs lol cough 41-0 cough
-
I’d have to say I’d rather the JETS face the Patriots than anyone else.
Part of me is afraid because (a) I’m a scarred JETS’ fan; and (b) I hate the Pats so much I don’t want to see them beat the JETS and talk smack.
Otherwise, they’re clearly one of the weaker teams that will be making the playoffs, if they indeed make the playoffs.
I think you gotta look at the team as presently constituted, not its history or former domination of the JETS (which may continue when Brady returns). Right now, the Colts are firing on all cylanders and are a much different team than they were earlier in the year.
-
I just know that in 2006 when we beat the Pats in our 2nd matchup with them, we went on and lost to them in horrible fashion in the playoffs that year in Foxboro. I know they had Tom Brady then, but they also had Belichick. And theres no question that he was able to better prepare his team after our victory against them and to use that to his advantage,
I don’t know what it is…but I guess I have been scarred from Bill Belichick…(It doesn’t help to live in Boston btw)
-
If we get the 2 seed you can lock up an AFC Championship game. Give this team a bye and a home playoff game and we will play to go to the SB. Tell me the team in the AFC that can walk into our stadium and flat out beat this team?? NE, Pitt, Indy….
-
I think we have to go 4-1 to get the 2 seed. If we go 3-2 then we are in trouble. I want no part of a 1st round game against anyone. For this year to special we need the 1 or 2 seed
-
I’d rather have Indy than NE in the playoffs. Yes, they run No Huddle, but their O-line is weakened by injury this year and Manning has been inconsistent all season long. Not to mention, he is immobile.
The Pats will be VERY dangerous in the playoffs. Their offense is clicking like ours is and BB knows how to stretch our defense and wear us out. I really would rather not face them in the playoffs for a third time this season.
-
Ideal scenario – we go 13-3 by doing everything right, get the bye, beat whomever at Meadowlands (hopefully not Pats), and in best of all worlds host AFC championship after someone upsets Tenn (either in weeks 16 & 17 or Round 2 of playoffs)!
-
Drew,
NE already has beat us in our home staduim this year. The rest of the teams don’t scare me, but NE does.
-
Looking at this upcoming schedule, we should absolutely run the table. 13-3 sounds nice.
-
I have to agree that hopefully the Jets will avoid another game with the Patriots. Although the Titans have a better record, I believe the Patriots are the second best team in the AFC (behind the Jets). Yesterday, the Titans never were really in the game whereas we all thought the Jets would blow the last Patriots game when they cam back and forced OT. I’d rather play anyone else in the NFL, with the exception of the Giants, then the Patriots.
-
sjfalcon2001….We were a very different team in week 2 compared to now. I am not scared of any team coming to us. Pats included
-
As a rule I avoid the Patriots. I’d rather face the Colts in the Playoffs. Can Peyton Manning beat you if you take away the running game? Yes, but can his defense stop our offense the way it is playing? I don’t think so.
-
I dont want any part of the Patriots. I think Mangini is an excellent HC. He seems to have learned from his mistakes (formerly too soft with the lead; formerly too funky for his own good) and has the team very well prepared each week. But BB is the cat’s meow.
Case in point: BB made endless adjustments in the Jet game, going to a spread and getting the ball into Watson, Gaffney and Faulk’s hands when the Jets has Moss and Welker covered. Fisher made no such adjustments when the Jets were consistently stopping Johnson (until it was too late). Its admirable to stick to your knitting but in a single game I like Belly’s chances of taking away your weapons and adjusting to your strengths. Cheating aside, he is the master. I’d rather take my chances with Manning and Dungy.
-
Jim Mora was reading this article over my shoulder and screaming, “Playoffs???, Playoffs???”…
Five more games to go…
-
I dont care who we take on, it would be better for us as a team, to take on the Pats and win.
Last time we split and then the Pats beat us in the Playoffs…why???..because we tried the same thing..stand around and then try to rush the QB where they would expect us to come from..
that worked in our WIN but didnt work the second time..
Like Miami this week, we tried to do what worked before, expecting it to work again..(see wildcat 25yds)
We need to always adjust and change our offensive plays and Keep BB on his toes..you just dont play against that team with a mindset of ‘what worked before will work again’
I think we shouldnt care who we play..to be the best..you have to beat the best…if we make it to SB its because we deserve to be there..not because we were lucky not to play the Pats in the playoffs.
-
i dont want to play new england….for one reason cassel is mobile and manning is not….
you hit manning a few times and he will fall off….cassel on the other hand is younger and tougher as we witnesses two weeks ago…
i also like the way we played physical against the recievers of the titans…i feel we really through off their routes….i feel that with our physical corners revis and law we will have and advantage against manning and his recieving corps…..manning is all about timing and having time in the pocket….if we make him move around let big jinx land on him a few times it will throw him off his game
-
For the purpose of determining which teams to root for in the upcoming weeks, this thread is fun. However, as fans, let’s not get ahead of ourselves or our beloved Jets. Perhaps I’m jaded, but I’ve been disappointed WAY too many times to start thinking about hosting a playoff’s game or a bye.
Anything can happen. For example, did anyone see Jenkins go down this week? I know he’s ok, but if the Jets lose Jenkins, what happens to the Jets run defense? Exactly. Health is going to be everything for this team in the next few weeks.
I’m cautiously optimistic, but take nothing for granted. For now, I’m just focused on beating the Broncos. Since I am going against both Favre and Coles in fantasy football next week, I’m sure they will both have huge games.
-
The Playoff’s are a way’s off.Let’s be focused on the Bronco’s………………No let down!!
-
Win out, get the first round bye and sit back and see who we play. If the Jets are the no. 2 seed, it’s likely the Jets would not draw the Pats or Colts (because they’d be wild card winners and would play the no. 1 seed if a divisional winner wins the first week and I like the Steelers at home to beat whoever they play). Ready for a re-match of 2004, but this time the Jets are the home team? As for Colts or Pats, I’d much rather play the Colts. If Saturday is out, Jenkins will be in Peyton’s face all day and, in any event, Ellis and Pace will overwhelm Tony Ugoh. The Colts OL is very banged up and it’s a tribute to Peyton that the Colts are in the thick of the playoff hunt.
-
After our performance the last two weeks( esp against NE where we lost the game 2 times but won 3 times) I’m only rooting for that second seed and a bye. I dont care who comes to our home, we have a nice combo of veteran and fresh blood to take us thru anyone in AFC.
-
i think its unlikely the jets win out. they are playing the best football in the AFC – but this is the NFL and i anticipate them having an off-game at some point.
more important than the pats, we should all be huge ravens fans. remember, the steelers have the tiebreaker over us (ahead by 2 games in conference play) so a home playoff game isnt a lock. ideal scenario would be the steelers beat the pats next week and lose to the ravens in week 15 and one other game (they also play dallas at @ tennessee). if the ravens can get hot – it would be steelers and indy as the wildcard teams and the jets/titans as home filed.
obviously, if the jets were to have a letdown game, we would prefer it to be vs one of the NFC west teams.
-
Well, we are the fans. Hopefully the players are not listening to us. We, the fans, should be able to look ahead. The players should take it a game at a time. If I were playing I would take it a game at a time. The writers are writers. They are going to write what they want anyways. I wouldn’t mind if the players say “no comment” a whole bunch of times. We are the customer. We can say, think and now write whatever we want.
-
Just an observation: For the next three weeks, the Pats play teams who are coming off a Thursday nite game, and are getting the benefit of an extra three days of rest. So far this year, Thursday nite teams are 6-0 the following Sunday. Let’s hope the trend continues, starting with Pittsburgh on Sunday.
-
Whatever playoff hopes the Dolphins had just took another hit. Chad’s favorite receiver is done for the year.
-
To be honest..
If the Jets continue to play this brand of tough relentless hard-nosed football, we shouldnt be worried about who we play
-
Does anyone – especially you guys who are so afraid of the pats – besides me, see how much the pats D sucks??? Yes, Cassel is clicking with Moss. It was a back and forth game with the fins yesterday because every time the pats scored, the fins would come right back and score (or vice versa). The pats D will not contain our Offense. Look at overtime last week, we take the ball and control for 7+ minutes before kicking the FG. Yes, they tied it up with one second to go but better defensive play calling would’ve & should’ve made that play moot. I will be nervous if we play them – but I’ll be nervous whoever we play. The way you win a SB is not to give a damn about who we play – it’s about us, not them. Focus on Denver, then take one week at a time. If and when we play whoever we get in the playoffs, kick the crap out of them. Besides, how sweet would it be to play the cheaters a 3rd time and win?
-
NYC Parking…
I kind of agree. Nothing would be sweeter than to send them home for the season on national television.
-
I assume most of us want to avoid the Pats, because why test fate? I would love to beat the Pats again especially in the playoffs. They always play us hard and usually win. I think avoiding teams in your division in the playoffs always works to your advantage. Now lets get to the playoffs.
-
One thing to be mindful of is the adjustments Mangini & Co. made to their “prevent” defense against the Titans in the second half, which differed in some key respect to the “prevent” Defense employed in the second half of the Pats game. Clearly, it seems Mangini learned and adapted. As such, given a similar situation if playing the Pats for a 3rd time, expect Mangini & Co. to adjust accordingly… we’re witnessing an improvement on Offense AND Defense from the Jets, whereas the Pats seem to only be improving on Offense; their defense is not as good as years past, and they are older and slower. As long as we maintain Moss [which we did the other week] and minimize big gains from Welker, we have a strong chance to end the Pats’ playoff chances should we in fact meet them….and how lovely would that be?
-
Edit: make that “contain” Moss.. ;-)
-
vurtualife:
I’m not so sure the Prevent defense was adjusted all that much. What differed was the offense didn’t go all conservative and hand the ball back after 3 plays. The second half offense was unbelievable, scoroing on all four possessions. -
I agree with most of the fans that say either 13-3 or 12-4. I disagree that Indy is a team we should be afraid of. If the jets continue to hold the ball (40:30sec) like they did against the Titans. Peyton Manning and Company will just be on the sidelines just watching. Jacksonville beat them earlier in the year because of it and the JETS would do the same. Add the fact that the Colts “D” is nowhere near as good as the Titans and there you go. Not very difficult to pick a winner. Jets would win comfortably. As for the Patriots, lets just say another defense that is banged up and not even that scary. Why be? So they rallied..Big-Deal! The Jets controlled the game and the right outcome happened. Matt Cassel is still “Matt Cassel” do not let the back to back 400 yd. games fool you. Plus, he has no “playoff” experience. He will make mistakes, and the Patriots will not be a team to worry about JET fans.
-
Root for the Titans to tailspin and lose a few games and lose home field advantage…they have the Steelers and Indy the last two weeks of the season and both teams will be playing for something…
I will never root for the Patsies for anything but to lose.
-
The Jets have been improving in every phase of the game each week. They have no obvious weak spots and if they avoid major injuries, they should be at their peak just in time for the play-offs. The only team I can see beating the Jets are the G-men.
-
Call me a chicken, but I don’t want to face the Pats with even the chance of having everything we took from them in Week 11 given right back. I think we’d win, but it’s just a risk I’d rather the Jets not have to face.
-
All this playoff talk is making me nervous. Our schedule is “favorable” but I don’t think the Broncos/Bills/Dolphins games are locks, even at home. It takes more than a few games for me to let go of all those old Jet fan insecurities.
-
This is a nice excercise in playoff scenarios. And I am sure as a Jet fan I can count those in one hand. But, PLEASE, PLEASE in the NFL anything can happen. Once the Jets ARE in the playoffs – then celebrate and let the chips fall where they may…..Go Brett!
-
Andrew, thank you for the rundown. That was a real good review.
As many of you have said, we are really coming together as a force. If we keep improving, week after week — it won’t matter who we play. I would love the bye week but, after that, if we play our game, it shouldn’t matter that much who we play.
-
fafa,
I 100% agree -
Brother Jet Fans,
This is a great time to be a Jet fan, we don’t get many seasons like this one.
I believe we can run run the table the rest of the way, or at the least go 4-1, which would put us at 13-3 or 12-4, either way if we do that, we fear no one. Any team, any place, any time.
-
I’d like to say that the jets fans are wishful thanking because they don’t evan have the division won yet i don’t thank they even make the playoffs the broncos are going to beat them sunday and then the dolphins are going to beat them the second time and they will hold the tie breaker and the jets don’t even make the playoffs.
-
they are noterious for blowing leads late in the seasons.
-
Parnell, The only thing the Jets will be thanking is when they thank the Commissioner for giving them the Super Bowl trophy.
-
you know what i thank is funny the jets haven’t been to a superbowl in 40 years their turning into the cubs of football and all you dumba@@ THANK THEIR GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL get alife they aren’t going anywere
-
you know when you haven’t been to a superbowl in 40 years, if the commissioner gave the jets one of those fake superbowl trophy the jets would probly feel good about themself.
-
no more takers , just thought i’d bring your heads out of the clouds their still 5 games to go don’t count your chickens just yet.
-
THE JETS DIFFICULT GAMES ARE AT HOME. DENVER BILL AND MIAMI. SEATTLE AND 49ERS ARE AWAY.
-
James
Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo ,JP whatever… first of all read your post 8:21..their should be there..oh forgot you are being funny..7:49 I think your thank for think joke sucks..sorry forgot again funny
Give us all a break and say something meanful dumba@@

When a superbowl at least one time in a 40 year history.dumba@@
-
YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING ELSE BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR MONDAYS?
-
Not really
-
Aren’t you on here with me moron?
-
HAHAHA. YOUR HYSTERICAL. btw- DENVER IS NOT GOING TO CARE TOO MUCH ABOUT SUNDAYS GAME. THAT DIVISION WILL BE WON BY DENVER WITH ONLY 8 GAMES. THEY’LL BE 8-8.
-
CHATTING ABOUT MY TEAM. I’M NOT GOING TO OTHER CHATS AND HATING ON THEM. GO TO THE PATS CHAT.
-
You know I think it’s funny the Jets haven’t been to a superbowl in 40 years. They’re turning into the Cubs of football and all you dumba@@ es think that they’re going to the superbowl. Face reality, they aren’t going anywhere.
-
UUUU CUT AND PASTE. HOW ORIGINAL? CAN YOU DO ANY OTHER TRICKS?
-
It’s not as interesting at Pats chat. They are not a bunch of unrealisitic haters who think the Jets will go to the Superbowl after a fluke of a win against Tennesee.
-
I didn’t think any of you retarded Jets fans knew how to do it.
-
its easy to be a Pats fan or Yankees fan. They’ve won. No such thing as a fluke in the NFL. Unless you have a video camera and video the other team before hand. Sort of like your cut and paste.
-
We dont cut and paste. We are being original. This is our first true run at the playoffs or a bye. For a Pats fan you really use hateful words. You would think you would be kool like Brady. But you come out like Bill.
-
Mangini was Bellechecks right hand man for many years, I’m sure his video tapping skills are amazing.
-
So amazing Mangini didn’t get caught. You would think that someone so well read would’ve known. Bill is suppose to be so smart. Even Hitler got his at the end. Didn’t we get a draft choice from the video?
-
Jose, Not hateful, just defensive. The Pats have took so many low blow comments, they need to be given some credit for once.
-
They pretty much played you all with all back up players and still only got beat by 3 points. Where do you get that the Jets are anyhwere near a powerhouse?
-
As I recall, thePatriots beat the Jets in NY 19-10 .
-
James
Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo..
First of all for the most part do not know your A@@ from your elbow when it comes to football…if so, you would say something that has meaning
Why waste your time here. Unless you are a JETS fan looking to stir things up… -
In Brett’s second game and with 6 new starters. How many years has Cassel been learning your system or those back ups you were refering to?
Last year the Pats kept one player from their draft because they were so set with depth. Those backups would start in Oakland so waa waa.
-
Listen I know twice what you know about football. Sounds like to me your the one who needs to learn about football, and that includes pulling for a team that actually stands a chance.
-
why you need credit? ! you have rings get over it. Personally I’m a cash kinda guy. Especially when its Bills. Bill also got fined! I’ve been a Jets fan all my life. I never got credit. I’m sure many Pat fans were jumping on the bandwagon. But I’ve been with the Jets for a long time. Been through the sack exchange. Kenny O’bien, Richard Todd, Freeman Mcneil and never won anything. If the Jets woud’ve won a couple of rings by now I would’ve been bored already.
The people on this website are great Jets fan. Who’ve been with the Jets for a long time. Even if you guys do win this year I’ll still be a Jets fan. But if we win I’ll be Brady kool about it.
-
OK wise A@@ tell us what you know..pulling for a team that actually has a chance to win..what thoes that show us. My kid can do that..yet again his IQ is going to be higher than yours.
So what do you know?
-
Dude, I’ve played basketball, baseball and football. I dont care how much you know. Pick your sport you migget. You sound like someone that never got picked in any sport. Sitting on the sidelines crying cause you never got picked. “Pick me pick me cause im a Pats fan”.

Classless franchise and fans. That is coming from a Jersey guy. Glad our stadium doesn’t have a mall. Heck of a football town.

1985 playoff game..you must have been sitting in your family room sucking your thumb a you are showing your age here…
Time to move on and not waste it on you.
Enjoy your season…love to play you and your class less coach a 3rd time -
what was his name!!!

Jose- Ignore him this guy is a joke. His girl probably left him for a Jets fan.

SEE YOU IN THE PLAOFFS CLUELESS.

Sorry my writing skills offend you, I was trying to dumb it down for you. I will try to recall my 5 years of college writing to impress you from now on.

HIS NAME WAS CLUELESS BUBBLE BOY. AFTER WE LOG OFF HE’LL COME BACK AND WRITE SOMETHING WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING.
-
5 years of college and you don’t capitialize proper nouns. Most universities only require 2-3 english courses if you are not an english major or a HS failure.
-
Have fun with the fake Super Bowl trophy, because it’s going to be another 40 years before you win another SuperBowl.
-
I haven”t back ed down yet.
-
I’d rather lose forever than be as smug and self righteous as a Pats fan. What goes around comes around. Brady is getting older. Most of your team is. Tick tick tick tick
-
I think it is your bed time. you better log off before pop come into your room. Don’t forget to brush your teeth.
-
Brett’s only 18 years from drawing social security. I’d be more worried about him breaking a hip instead of winning a game.
-
James
It is not where you are yesterday, and it is not where your will be tomorrow..it is where you are today and we are in 1st place.
Now go get you teddy and go to sleep so we adults can talk football -
That may be true, but do they ever highlight the teams that alsmost went to the Superbowl? They don’t have segments called “Losers that finished 4th.” Now go to your crib, and wait for Santa to bring you a refurbished Patriots Superbowl ring. IF you’ve pulled for the Jets since Joe namath, sounds like you might needs Depends and dentures instead of a crib and pacifier.
-
Instead of Wranglers commercials Brett is now the spokesperson for Depends Undergarments and Polygrip.
-
James
Can you tell me which superbowl NE won that is greater tand more talked about han the one the JETS won!!!
BTW would love to meet you to discuss depends and dentures.. -
than not tand
-
James, at least we know how to spell the last name of our head coach, unlike your attempt to spell Belichick. To us you’re just another Mass Hole who can’t win or lose with grace.
-
James
great job..lots of fun, but you bring nothing to the table and your fellow NE fans would be embarassed by your lack of knowledge of the game.
Enjoy the remainder of the season. -
james,
since you are so uneducated about football, let me remind you that without SB III, you would not have won your three Superbowls, because the AFL would have folded in the 70s had they continued without a merger. Your beloved Pats wouldn’t even exist.
-
James, let’s talk about the Super Bowl that is as infamous as Super Bowl III – the loss of a perfect season by the Pats in Super Bowl XLII, won by a NY team. Belichik showed his true sportsmanship by walking off the field with 2 seconds left on the clock. Cry babies Brady and Moss declined going to the Pro Bowl afterwards. I’m a Giants fan and I support the excellent job that Mangini and company have done for the Jets. I want to see a Giants Stadium super bowl this year. Go Jets. And to the Jets fans, don’t worry about who your opponent may be in the playoffs. Just believe in your team and take on your opponents one at a time. That’s what the Giants showed the world last year when they beat “the perfect team” in a game that mattered. No one will ever care about the Pats going 16-0 in the regular season because they were badly beat in the game that mattered.
-
Yep, it’s NY. The spin factory is in full gear. Personal opinion matters more than facts.
No point in telling truth here. Even the so called “journalist” plays blatant favorites.
To the fans of NY teams, Manning and Favre aren’t from NY. Neither is Namath from NY. That explains why they’re class acts.
Brady never forgets that he was picked in the 6th round. Trust me, NE had Bledsoe who actually complained. Never heard Brady complain. Always complimented the other team if they won.
This last game between the Jets and NE was decided on the flip of a coin. Right now, that’s how close the teams are. If the match up again, then hopefully the best team wins, whichever that might be.
NY fans can’t be good sports, even in victory. No wonder everyone (not just NE) hates NY fans. -
OK, WHATEVER. Let’s talk about “class acts” not from NY: T.O., Belichik, PacMan Jones,… Shall I name more? Yes, brady does compliment the other teams – I agree on calss there. But to not show up to the pro Bowl because he lost the Super Bowl is a childish move. Children look up to him and all he showed them was that he was a sore loser. And, the reason why NYers aren’t liked is because we’re like the Romans – this is the center of the world, as Bostonians were disliked in the late colonial days/early days of the republic when Boston was the key city.

Even though it will not happen. What would be better than a Super Bowl in Giant Stadium?
-
Jose, there would be nothing better than a NY-NY Super Bowl; a baseball Subway Series wouldn’t cut it. This is the second time (1986 was the first) when both teams were in strong contention to make it happen. But there are still many games to go and the races in both the NFC East and AFC East are still too close to call at this point.
-
Although, Jose, if the Giants could make it back and the Jets miss, the next best thing would be the Giants beating the crap out of the Pats again! ;-)
-
Too bad you guys couldn’t smack around Brady again. I loved watching him get beat like a drum.
-
The Jets will do it to him next year. Patience is a virtue!
-
you guys are getting ahead of yourself. PLAYOFFS???? WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT PLAYOFFS????
Lets take it one game at a time, and stop getting ahead of ourselves. Stop worrying about home field advantage and worry about the Broncos. Who have a gunslinger at QB who is mobile and a beast at receiver.
Lets not become the ’07 Patriots
-
To all Jets fans….Please read this message…
Nobody ever won a Super Bowl in November…
5 games to go anything can happen….
As a one time coach once said “Playoffs what playoffs”
when the jets clinch a playoff spot then lets dream about superbowls.
Realisticly …for the Jets to make the Super Bowl they must at least be the #2 seed, otherwise forget it.
what the Giants did last year is very rare. Dont expect
to see that again.Jets fans and I’m one of them ..don’t talk super bowl or playoffs lets just take it one game at a time be grateful for the season and 8-3 record

question
If both the Jets and Giants have home field and make it to the conference championship games what does the NFL do . Does one play on Sunday and the other Sat… Cant do 2 games in one day at the Meadowlands. Maybe the Giants can play there game at Yankee Stadium for old time sake
-
jetsmets6869: The Meadowlands management has already stated that there is zero chance that they can accommodate two games on the same day. So one team would play Sunday, and the other would play either Saturday night, or Monday night (most likely depending on what the TV network prefers)
-
I heard Monday
-
I said it yesterday and “jetsmets6869″ said it very eloquently today. “When the Jets clinch a playoff spot then lets dream about superbowls”. Enough said.
As far as Jet haters – please take your venomous hatred somewhere else. Sadly enough, such displays only shows your complete inability to even enjoy your past success. All you have left is hate. And as such it will eat you up. For you see, Cubs fans or Jet fans, for that matter, have something you will never comprehend, that is, HOPE. You may say so what? Well, HOPE is eternal! Go JETS!
-
One game at a time. This week it’s Pittsburgh and New England. Two teams enter, one team leaves.
-
they could tie . . . works both ways for the jets

Forget the Colts– I would rather play NE. Make them come into “GIANTS stadium” (thanks for reminding me Bill) after the Jets have the bye (provided either of them are the 5 seed). I’d rather deal with them a 3rd time than Manning.
