Things to do in Denver When You’re Deadly

This week is a big one for the Jets. We’ve just proven that we can play with anyone, now it’s time to beat up the teams we should beat up.

The stats tell the story, the Broncos give up a lot of yards on the ground. We should be able to establish our ground game and wear down the undersized Bronco d-line. We should establish TJ and LW early and often. Make Denver stuff 8 into the box.

Denver having 8 in the box will make an already weak pass defense even more vulnerable. Keller should be able to exploit the LB’s but denver does have some speed at LB. D.J. Williams from the U is a typical speedy Miami product.

I am interested to see more play action. I haven’t seen a lot of play action recently. Most of the play action comes from the shotgun. If we’re able to run the ball, the play action seam pass to Keller could be devastating.

I expect Bailey to cover LC so JC, DK and CS will need to step up their game.

The Jets need to make another statement and beat up on the lowly Broncos. Time to show we are the team to beat.

  1. yeah i agree, we have to prove that we’re the team to beat and also stay 1st in the AFC east. With David Harris back in the field, our defense should be great.
I dont see the Jets losing this game.

  2. must have missed it, but is david harris expected to start this week?

  3. does anyone find it funny that the same week there were all those articles about how the panthers dont miss Big Jinx because he was a distraction, they give up 4 rushing tds to michael turner, including 2 on 4th and goal? im just sayin….

  4. i hope chansi will get more touches, do you guys think hes being groomed to be a starter in the future, kind of the way cotchery was used his first couple of years?

  5. cotch WASN”T used his first few years..unfortunately Herm burried him

  6. he was used sparingly in the slot if i remember correctly, frank

  7. my only memory of Cotch in 2004 & 2005 was kickoff return TD against Rams in week 17 2004

I think we stick with same gameplan of long bal control drives that rest D and tire other D out.

Need to see more consistent QB pressure this week.

  8. Denver is a first possession or first quarter team. We need to stay with them for the first half and then take off in the second half. We need to keep to the plan that has worked. Run and throw short early. Then let Brett do his thing and read the defense. Jets win 30-10 and go 9-3.

-Jets number 3 in the NFL!!!

  9. We do need to pressure Cutler, but the DEN OL is tops in the league in sacks allowed. The rook Clady has been solid at LT. Should be able to pound the rock and if they stuff the box follow the blueprint from last week and get some quick hitters over the middle.

  10. Shut down Cutler.

    Revis vs Marshall check

    Law/committee vs Royal check

    Game over

  11. vbsiena24… couldnt of said it any better myself. should be almost a guarantee we will shut down their rushing attack stop the pass and pressure cutler would give us a win and a dominating defense

  12. YOU KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD DO!…….exactly what we’ve BEEN doing the past FIVE weeks.

  13. They’ve been weak against the pass, but I think they’re getting champ bailey this week. — I want to see a heavy dose of TJ and Leon, with passes to Keller, who they have no chance of covering.

On Defense, we should be able to stop the run fairly easily. I want to see Marshall double covered on every play and i’d like to see a pass rush without sending more than 1 LB (but i don’t know if we can). I expect that if we get a lead and are patient enough, cutler will eventually turn the ball over 2-3 times.

and nick mangold should give robertson a smack to remind him that he sucks.

  14. Brett Favre will need to light it up like he did in Denver last year with the Packers and the D ## needs to get in Cutler’s face early and often to create some turnovers! GO JETS!!!

  15. My feeling is that they will rush four, particularly at first to see if four can put pressure on the Cutler and only bring more if they can’t get it done. Run stopping is usually a function of not overly committing to the rush. I think on offense you’ll see much of what we saw last week, coming fast and unexpectedly with short passes and running from the spread. That has killed lately, tiring out the D and sustaining long, time consuming drives. That’s old-time Jets football. The Curtis Martin offense of the Thomas Jones variety. Play action from that should just kill a D’s heart.

  16. I would love to see Brett get his first 300+ yard passing day, with the Jets, this Sunday! maybe even throw in another 6 TD performance…

  17. Isn’t champ out he hasn’t plated in 4 weeks the groin has been bothering still I was reading

  18. Wow, a myspace page. This really does feel like 1998.

  19. and also, David Harris has not practiced yet and is out for this week. Hoping to return at SF.

  20. Broncos a bit of a preview of what the Jets can expect if we make the playoffs. Teams like the Colts or Pats will look to run up yards through the air and make the linebackers and safeties cover. I’m interested to see if we can tighten up the secondary coverage.

  21. Alrite so this is my first year as a season ticket holder… but isnt it jumping the gun sending out playoff ticket invoices with 5 games left in the season.. that is not good karma

  22. looking for crowd to be 2002 playoff loud vs. Colts on Sunday…need to show the league how loud it is going to be in January in the swams

  23. Isn’t Dewayne Robertson on that line? Lets run right at those shaky knees. Pound the ball all day with TJ and change it up with Leon for a few big plays. The D should clog the run, and Cutler is going to be lookin for Marshall… but we have Mr. Revis shadowing him all the way. I hope Mangini throws some pressure on Cutler and doesn’t do that sit back and watch defense. We have weapons in Calvin Pace and BT that can put a hurtin on Cutler.

  24. All I gotta say is Jat fans betta represent at the stadium this Sunday.

    Be very loud throughout!

LOUD Defense chants on every 2nd and 3rd down!

  25. someone wanna give me a free ticket?

  26. KC – You nailed it, brother. Dance with the girl that took you to the party. Keep doing what got us to 8-3.
That said, I do think that eliminating Royal and Marshall will be key. They did a good job of keeping Moss and Welker quiet vs the Pats…..that worked out pretty well, huh?
Go Jets and Go Steelers (this week anyway)

  27. We got to do what we have been doing the last few weeks. One of the main things is Favre making proper adjustments at the line when he sees the defense. Mangini said this after the titans game that favre changed running plays to throwing and throwing to running depending on the defensive front the other team was showing. Thats what great QB are able to do. If there are 8 men in the box, go with quick slants, play action; if the defense is playing pass- you change it up to a run, draw play. Favre and the offense really seems to be making the correct offensive play calls, and need to continue it this week.

On defense, tough match for our secondary. We need apply great pressure to Cutler, sack him 4X. They have Marshal, Royal, Stokely, and use their TE’s too. Royal and Stokely are both real quick small guys. Marshal is big and fast. Tough match up for us. It will be all about applying pressure to Cutler.

  28. we need a Pit NE tie

  29. On paper, this seems like a game the jets should have in the bag, with that said I don’t look for farve to be key in this game, if he doesn’t have to, I don’t see him exceeding 25 to 30 pass attempts. Tj and leon aka “the pounding fathers” lol(courtesy of espn) should dominate this game….period. Time possesion, which is a big part of our game will be key. But am I the only one who has a little sense of nerve when it comes to this one? Denver’s main strength counters our main weakness….. our secondary. Granted revis(covering BM) is not apart of this discussion because he does his job, day in and day out. Royal’s name I see is being brought up, but they do have a “great TE” tandem that is utilized in their offense, graham has always been solid and and they have another TE I think named scheffler? The guy is a “dustin keller” prototype, and I think that can cause some SERIOUSE problems for us. Scaife could have ran crazy on us sunday against the titans if it weren’t for the drops. Cutler also has the ability to run wild in the pocket and scranmble, I haven’t seen us contain those situations this year…..at all.(Cassel on NE and fitzpatrick on CIN) We kind of got exposed in those games, revis and rhodes can’t do it by themselves,…. any feedback?

  30. ahaha the pounding fathers thats great

  31. Yes Tony Scheffler when healthy is very good. I know he has been battling injuries all season. Daniel Graham sucks don’t worry about him. The Jets have allowed TDs to get catches over the middle, which honestly doesn’t bother me that much as long as they are not dominating because the Jets have been stopping the run adn long pass.

  32. *TEs

  33. I had a friend tell me that he read an article in which the author wrote that when Thomas Jones get 26 touches or more the jets win convincingly. I dont know if its true but if it is…obviously give Thomas the ball at least 26 times.

  34. They always send out playoff ticket invoices five weeks before if there is any shot at making it. Even when they were 5-6 they sent them out, and the Jets won a home playoff game 41-0 that year.

  35. Uh, isn’t DJ Williams out with an injury? I know he was out last week.

  36. Didn’t the Jets face a similar team to the Broncos at home in Week 4? With all due respect to Cutler, Marshall and Royal, aren’t Warner, Boldin and Fitzgerald better? Also, hasn’t our offense that put up 6 TDs against the Cards gotten BETTER? The Jets can’t take the Broncos lightly, but it seems to me that the Jets match up better with the Broncos than they did with the Cards.

Simple formula: on offense-control the line of scrimmage, control time of possession (whether by the pass or run), take a chance or two deep to keep the D honest; on defense-control the line of scrimmage, get the offense off the field on 3rd down, and pressure Cutler.

And, I say this every week. Play with a lead. Denver’s coming cross-country for a non-divisional game and they have a 2 game lead in their division. This is not a “must-win” for them and they all know it. So, I’m not sure that they will be able to match the Jets’ intensity, unless they smell an upset.

  37. The Broncos offense does have some similarities to Arizona’s, they can put up points quickly through the air, but it shouldn’t take 6 Favre TDs to beat them. Their D is softer and we’ve gotten much more balanced since the Cards in week 4. The key will be ball control but without falling into the trap of being conservative to the point of inertia. That and coming of two huge, emotional road wins and a lazy turkey day worry me a little.

  38. Oh and another thing…..am I the only one who is getting tired of sutton’s weak defensive schemes? yeah great run defense, blah, blah, blah and more sacks the last year…whatever….so what? I attribute that to a change in personell in our front seven(KJ and CP) and bryan thomas’ reality check, not to coaching. I know gholston has been casper so far, but I realy think coaches need to know how to utilize a players in certain scenarios and mold them. I’m sure a lot of players will admit that footbal is probably 80% mental, gholston ahs all the physical ability in the world, so I guess we just throw him in there everyday to go one on one with these vets and hopefully he’ll beat somebody for a sack?…..wrong. We’ve been using the corner and saefty blitzes for a while and its starting to get predictable…even worse when we got em blitzing from deep in the secondary. When things don’t work out, (most times they don’t) we have our linebackers gettin burnt by the TE’s and RB’s. I’m gettin tired of it, we need more exotic blitzing schemes out of our front seven so our secondary can do its REAL job and not look so bad. Guys, I really think we have the the personell to be something special, and I don’t see what the steelers and giants have over us. As a matter of fact, I do. Defnsive coordinators with grit and brains. From what I see, those teams get countless “clear path” sacks, so don’t tell anything about talent. I think for gholston that would be a BIG motivational boost. All the tucks and harrisons and other good lb’s on the steelers didn’t bust on the scene, they were groomed by good coaching, with sutton at the helm I don’t think we’ll never be able to maximize our potential, let alone this sunday against denver, lol.

  39. I’ve voiced my opinions about Sutton all this year and last. I don’t think he has the stuff to be a great D-Coordinator.

    I want Romeo!

  40. Romeo is not going to come coach for the Jets. He knows his bread and butter are with Belichick. He also will not take orders from a guy who was 2 levels below him 4 years ago

  41. Off topic, but I just had to vent.

Playoff ticket bill just arrived. Woody wants us to pay for 3 jet home games yet the most any team can host is 2. Obviously, if you get a bye you can host only two, but a wild card team cannot host the first round or the second round, so if both wild card teams won two games one could host only 1. And the division winners that did not get a bye would host the first round, could not host the second, and could host the championship.

While the ticket prices are different, they could charge for the 2 most expensive games (championship and division) and refund difference if cheaper games are played, just as they do if no games are played at home.

Also, there is a $3 PER TICKET charge for credit cards.

  42. I agree with you. Sutton is not the greatest D-Coordinator. Our main success is because we obtained an all-pro NT and Pace. But when I see the Steelers and Ravens and Giants play I see an attacking defense that gets constant pressure. They may not have the greatest secondaries, but they are good at getting after the QB consistently!!! Something we fail to do on a regular basis

  43. Update on playoff ticktes.

If you oay online they charge you for the two most expensive games which is less than the paper invoice.

  44. DRose, DJ Williams is out and Champ Bailey might not play either (and if he does play he will likely not be at 100% because of a groin injury that has kept him out the past 4 weeks)

  45. “I had a friend tell me that he read an article in which the author wrote that when Thomas Jones get 26 touches or more the jets win convincingly. I dont know if its true but if it is…obviously give Thomas the ball at least 26 times.”

Chicken and egg. They have typically only run the ball that much when they’ve had the lead and want to burn some clock.

  46. I’m posting this because I’ve seen the question come up a number of times:

“While playing exclusively on first and second downs as part of the Broncos’ eight-man, game-day rotation along the front four, Robertson has brought a quiet, lunch-pail presence… The situational role has served not only to keep Robertson fresh but produced other big-picture consequences. The Jets will receive nothing in terms of draft-pick compensation for Robertson if he plays less than 65 percent of the snaps this season. He is playing considerably less and isn’t expected to approach that threshold by season’s end.” By Lee Rasizer, Rocky Mountain News

  47. There were reports that conflicted with that though, so I’m not entirely convinced it is correct. Even if it is, I’m not really all that bothered. He obviously had to go. More concerning is the fact that the article says he is starting to play well and he has a history of lifting his game a notch against good teams. (NE in 2006, Pitt last year). I don’t necessarily see this as the mismatch many of you do, although he’s no Albert Haynesworth.

PS – The non-capitalization in the headline was annoying me so I replaced it with a better one. (OK, so the game isn’t IN Denver, but oh well).

  48. Noted a post on the playoff tickets—does anyone know what the face value of tickets are?

  49. Yes, the salary dump to sign Jenkins has played out so well that I could care less about compensation. I’ve just seen it asked about a lot.

  50. Sack – I wonder if this is incorrect – I am almost sure they get a 6th round pick for him no matter what, and more if he plays more than 65% of the snaps. It seems that everyone is confused on this – I remember at the time of the “trade”, seeing about 10 contradictory reports.
I would love to get the real deal on this – I doubt Tanny wouldn’t have gotten at least something, although you can make the argument that dumping his salary was worth it in itself. Still, I remember at least one of the reports had us getting a very low round draft pick (maybe even 7th) no matter what.

  51. Sorry, subway, I thought it was SD99 that posted that.

  52. I think our team is coming together, in every way. It has taken half the season for them to get familiar with each other but, now that they have been through some wars — we are only getting better. I think that we are going to crush Denver. Here’s why:

    1. We are home. Jet fans are loving this team. It will be a hostile environment.

    2. The coaches have our team prepared, every week.

    3. Our team realizes how good it is and they are having fun with it.

    4. Jenkins is a beast.

    5. Brett is the real deal.

    6. We have one of the best running games in the league.

    7. You can’t run on us.

    8. Cutler will be running for his life.

  53. hopefully cutler wont be running for his life into the end zone, the guys IS kinda fast. lol

  54. Brandon “You’re With Me”riweather: Why would you want to double cover Marshall?

I was disappointed that we double covered Moss against NE. If Revis is a top CB, as most of us have proclaimed, why dont we let him go one on one with the likes of Moss and Marshall. Let them beat him before we key on just one player and let everyone else run wild.

If they double BM, mark my words, Cutler will have a big day connecting with Royal, Stokely and TEs in the middle of the field and underneath.

I have tickets in 127 and 115: Face for the first playoff game is $125 and if (hopefully) there is a second (AFC Champ) $150.

  55. sean,
e-mail me at my username @gmail.com and we’ll come to an agreement!

  56. Sean – If you’re selling them at face, I’ll take the pair that droseatwork doesn’t take. click the link on my uname and go to contact us to email me.

  57. droseatwork: Sorry, should have been clearer, I was simply responding to JoeP’s inquiry about the face value of the tickets. There is no possible way that I would miss either of these games.

  58. Thanks Sean mine are in 117 so should be the same.

  59. Denver is a dangerous team to the JETS because the JETS historically have NOT played well when they have been the favorite. For some reason, they tend to play down to the opponent’s level. Hopefully Brett will not let this happen and the JETS beat Denver to keep the positive momentum going. Please do not take Cutler or Denver lightly.

  60. yea, but is David Harris starting?????? no one has answered that yet! and someone mentioned that he might be playing does ANYONE have any info on Harris?????

  61. Dan – nothing official yet, but NJ.com on Monday said that Harris hopes to return to practice this week (and he did) but is unlikely to play v Denver and will target the SF game.
