Play calling was bad. Favre didn't execute it great though. Coaching and execution lost that game. Secondary was horrible, yet I still thought we had a chance and it was the first time in my life that an opponent was in our red zone and I had confidence we could hold them.

hank/naples, I guess that I just don't understand the "this QB outperformed the opposing QB" argument. This isn't basketball where Favre and Cutler battled each other. They're on different teams and faced different defenses. Cutler played well and won. But, your theory is that Favre played poorly and I just don't think that's the case. Heck, Cutler even had the worse INT, but his INT resulted in a FG and Favre's, which pinned the Broncos on their own 32, resulted in a TD. The Broncos won for a multitude of reasons, but one of them was not because Favre didn't play well. And, while you're drinking the Haterade against Favre, how about Jericho's fumble and failure to make that crucial catch? The Jets WRs didn't exactly distinguish themselves against a poor Broncos defense without Champ Bailey.

I thought the playcalling by Schott regressed and he got too cute again by straying from the formula that had resulted in 3 crucial AFC road victories. The gadget play by Smith and the two passes to try to get a yard were a throwback to the Raiders game as was the passive defense of sending 5-6 men in coverage (which hasn't seemed to work since the Miami game and just barely there). But, if the Jets win the next 4 games, they win the AFC East for only the 3rd time and tie for the best franchise regular season record. If Favre gets 10 TD passes in these last 4 games, he sets the Jets TD record. So, while I lived through 1986, which was the last time the Jets were the AFC's best team and collapsed, I'm still optimistic about this team which I think is the best in the AFC.

I try to avoid blaming coaches for wrong calls on individual plays. They have a better insight on what the team and players can do. But they should always take the blame for a loss especially if it is lopsided. Individual players are not involved in every play. Great individual performances or one game-changing play can be the deciding factor in close games. Getting blown out by a team with fewer talented players is the coaches' fault. Coaches have control of the team before every play. If Brett Farve or the defense play badly, then the coaches should find another way to win. There is enough talent on the Jets to win every game. Eric Mangini deservedly got the credit two years ago for the winning season and was reaping praises again during the 5-game winning streak. I still believe he can get the team deep into the playoffs but with these Jets anything can happen. (I'd be surprised if Norv Turner is the still the Chargers coach next year).

Sackdance99:

I really can't tell you which team was/is better. I can tell you that Cutler flat outperformed Farve, no if's and's or but's. He's 2 TDs guarenteed the win and his 8.3 yds per pass beat Farves 5.4. Again, the problem here is Farve is great when we win , bad game plan fire the coaches when we lose. It's almost as if the heavens would open up and lightning would strike anyone that blames Farve for anything.

Sack99,

You said it right in another post, the Jets have just gone 7-2 of the last nine. How are people not satisified? A resaonable person would realize that favre has played the last 16 years in the same offense, and now comes to a new team, how can there not be growing pains. A lesser QB might not have done as well.

You will never get Hank/ Fonzie (they are the same person) to believe that the Favre trade was a good thing.

In the absence of a FULL commitment to a pass rushing style of D, this team is good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to go much further. Why Sutton is still here is a mystery to me. Even last year at 4-12, they appeared to commit to a more agressive D after the bye (for the 2nd year in a row) and played much better down the stretch. Shottenhiemer this has the stats to back up his role, but I would not be sad to see him leave as well.

Blame or credit won't help us win the next games - recommitting to the run on offense and an improved pass rush on defense will.

We have an OL full of first round talent, are averaging close to 5 yds/carry, yet we pass 15% more than we run. Why?

On D, we will be seeing teams spread it out against us the rest of the year. If we don't show some different looks we'll be in trouble. Cutler knew what was coming every down. We aren't stopping anyone rushing 3/4 and going to a pseudo prevent. Release the hounds!

hank/naples, Favre was 23/43 for 247 0 TDs and an INT. Cutler was 27/43 for 357 2 TDs and an INT. The difference was that Favre was throwing against Denver's prepared defense and Cutler was picking apart the Jets' unprepared defense. Maybe Cutler has better weapons with Marshall, Royal, Stokely, Scheffler and Graham? Also, maybe his OL is better? This team was not built for the quick strike of a strong armed QB, but Denver has been since Elway first trotted on the field. So, I know it's hard for you, but maybe Favre did the best he could with what he had under the conditions.

The Jets and Steelers run similiar versions of the 3-4 defense, with varying results, the biggest difference is D_ck Lebeau. He is a master at calling the right blitz package at the right time, he keeps an offense off balance and out of rythum. We (the Jets) should identify one of his top assistants, one who has been with him a while and really understands what he does and why he does it. We should then hire this Steeler assistant for our D coordinator, because Sutton just isn't cutting it.
