Once a week, we take a look at some of Football Outsider’s statistical tools to help you get a sense of what you can expect this weekend from the Jets and their opponent.
Letdown game? The only thing a team can do is to take it out on the next guy …
Niners Offense
Passing Rank – 30th
Rushing Rank – 26th
RB 10+ Yards Rank - 21st
O-Line Rushing Rank – 8th w/ 4.36 Adjusted Line Yards
O-Line Sack Rank – 31st w/ 10.0% sack rate
Translation – This line’s run blocking ability is this offense’s best asset and most of the success that the rushing game has had can be credited to who’s up front. Frank Gore can be deadly, but he’s not a consistent threat to make long runs, but he can be relied on for steady yards. Most of the runs come between the guards, so look for Kris Jenkins play to be a big factor in the outcome of this game.
The passing game is having less success, with one of the league’s worst sack percentages. The Jets pressurage unit could get some confidence back this week when they play against a team that has struggled to adequately protect the passer and get rid of the ball quickly.
Niners Defense
Passing Rank – 19st
Rushing Rank – 16th
RB 10+ Yards Rank - 13th
D-Line Sack Rank – 29th w/ 4.8% sack rate
D-Line Rushing Rank – 12th w/ 4.12 Adjusted Line Yards
Translation – Shh! Here’s a secret! It’s the linebackers that make them good! When Samurai Mike is a part of your squad, you know the linebackers are going to be coached up. The linebackers are great at plugging holes on defense and stopping long gains by opposing runners.
Attacking the middle (passes to TEs in the middle of the field, runs around the ends) of this defense might be the wrong move for the Jets. The defense has potential, but the strength of it is the linebackers and the Jets should do their best to neutralize them or play away from them.
The Jets should also have a decent amount of time to set up passing plays because the Niners have not been able to provide adequate pressure on defense. Look to see if they work the perimeter of this defense by using their primary receivers to stretch the field and grinding the ball on running hoping to get blockers into the second level to spring some longer running plays.
Niners Special Teams
The Jets are facing one of the best all around Special Teams’ units in the league. Best at returning kicks, the unti is strong in all phases … extra points, kickoffs and returns, punts and returns. The Jets won’t have an advantage here over their adversaries, so need to stick to the scheme and execute on it to prevent giving this Niners’ team anything to help keep them in the game.

Fonz, are you kidding me , I don’t care how badly mashed up he is, they way we couldn’t stop the run against the Broncos ( even though I think it was because of our passive D ) how are we going to fair against Frank Gore, we should be able to win this, but we were also able to win last week and the raiders game so we will see, If we do lose it’s gonna be because of the long trip to the West

Nyckage,
How do you explain putting Harris in there when his status is day to day?
Remember he had a groin tear so bad that the muscle was completely ripped off the bone. This sort of injury can hamper his future later despite having surgery if he doesn’t take the neccessary precautions. He is without a doubt our best linebacker and i am a firm believer that Harris 100 % under the timeline of full rest and it means rehabilitation and working in the system for a game or two (Yes Harris I know you said after traning camp that you are 110 percent but you really weren’t, dont play the warrior when you have a tricky injury that could affect you later on) is better than harris 90 or 98 percent who says he wants to because he can “help” the team win.
If Harris sustains this injury again he will never be the same and people like you nyckage only care about the best on the field with their best output no matter what.
You are crazy my friend!!!!!

Fonz you dont like anything about the JETS…
Let him play, he needs to get back into live action get the cobb webs out. -
Fonz
OK, what happened to Clowney, should we go day to day with him also, oh wait how is that working out, he hasn’t even played a down yet, Harris needs to get his ass out there, I don’t trust Bowens at all against the Pass, if we keep delaying him he might not play until playoff time and we don’t even know if we making it to playoffs for sure this year -
Hey Chrebookie,
Harris honestly coming back to play with against 49ers this week will not make that much of an impact. He will not be that much of a factor. He can’t simply get on the field and dominate like he used to do. You must be nuts to believe that he will make an impact against the 49ers.

Hey Chrebookie,
Did you forget to say your prayer to the Almighty FARVE? Do you worship on your knees to him everynight?
-
Hey Fonz,
never said anything bout domination. your a freakin kook. nothing you say has any value.
Pennington called, says he wants his Flipper panties back, if you could get them back to him it would be great. -
I definitely agree that we shouldn’t rush Harris back, but I don’t believe that Mangini will. If he’s recovered, he’ll play, if not, he’ll sit. I doubt Mangini would risk losing our best linebacker a second time.

I dont like that Harris is coming back after five and a half weeks. I say rest him this week and work him in against Buffalo. We are going to need him the last two games.
