AFC East Coaching Carousel Rumor Mongering
Earlier this week Don Banks gave a pretty exhaustive rundown of who could be out and in by the end of the season in the NFL. Here’s a two AFC East related (and blatant) “what if” scenarios that occurred to me based on reading who Banks thinks has a likely shot at losing and getting jobs this offseason.
Romeo Crennel — Banks rates Crennel with a “90 percent” at being a goner at season end. New England D-Coordinator Dean Pees probably isn’t going anywhere this offseason, could two longtime friends, Mangini and Crennel be reunited in the East?
Josh McDaniels — The Patriots OC might very well get his chance to take the big chair somewhere this offseason … but who would replace McDaniels? Might Jets QB Coach Brian Daboll get a call from his old boss to take over playcalling duties in New England?
I’m sure Romeo is an excelent DC, but I don’t know how he would fit in with this Jet staff. Crennell is significantly older then EM, and I don’t know how he would take to working for a “kid” that used to fetch donuts for the coaches meeting.
I would however, like to see the Jets go after one of D_ick Lebeau’s assistants. The Steelers run a similiar style of the 3-4 defense to the Jets, only with better results, and thats because of Lebeau. Lebeau is a master at calling the right blitz package at the right time. He keeps offenses off balance and out of rythum. His game calling was brilliant last week against NE. He need to identify one of lebeau’s assistant who have been with him a while, one who really understands what and why he does it, when he does it. We should make that guy our DC.
Yea I agree With you Ramble we should go after a one of Lebeau’s assistants, I think getting Crennel is a good idea but as ramble said, why would a 20 yr old guy want to work fr oa 10 yr old, it makes no sense, if he does it’s good for us, and it must mean they have a really good friendship, oh and it’s good for the D
Anyhow, we should go after a guy from Pittsburgh, our D will be feared because of the amount of time we blitz a game, Sutton has got to go, the only way I see this guy stay is if we win the SB
as it looks right now…we will definitely need a new D coordinator next year.
Sometimes when he only rushed 2 or 3 linemen, it feels like even i can make a couple completions.
This is a business and i feel crennel will have no problem with that i mean lebeau is younger than tomlin crennel might look at it as a temporary thing until he get a hc offer. I just want sutton gone already !!!!
thats a great point ronnie, although tomlin came in after labeau. But labeau could have left if he didnt think tomlin was qualified enough
When Cowher first hired LeBeau, he was a kid (35) and LeBeau (55) was significantly older. So, I don’t think age would foreclose hiring Romeo, but he has many friends who are part of the Parcells coaching tree, including the old man himself.

I can understand the drugs as stupid as that sounds. After the Denver loss I was looking for some myself but how does a grown man in 2008 (in NJ no less) not have a registration or insurance card?? Not to mention being an idiot to the cops?
Honestly I would rather see the Pope then Sutton next year as DC. I would take Crennel in a heartbeat over what we have no question…
