I know it wasnt a fluke that we beat the Titans or the Pats on the road so what is the deal? How can recievers and TE’s be wide open with 7 and 8 guys in coverage? Why are we playng off the WR’s if were only rushing 3 or 4 guys? How can we not complete a meaningful pass to a WR for 2 straight games? How does a team that can flat out run the ball with TJ not get WR’s and TE’s opened lately? These question have to get answered before Sunday. If not we are looking at a huge nightmare.
2 weeks of uninspired football. Positive, Leon Washington rules. Negative, Favre hasn’t had a 300 yard game this season and just SUCKED against the 28th ranked passing defense in the NFL. I am going to be so pissed if Pennington comes in after Christmas and beats us to win the AFC East.
We were tied at 14 with 5 min left in the 3rd girls…certainlya winnable game despite getting dominated to that point.
YES the holding on the kick return TD was weak.
YES down 10 with 6 min left watching smith try to lateral to leon was painful.
KNOW THIS: you win all 3 u win the division.
you win the bills and fins games, (lose to seattle)
and you need the pats to lose 1 of their games at oakland, home vs arizona, and at buffalo.
the ravens will be 9-4…(up 14-0 on the skins as i typ this) and they are owners of the 2nd wildcard spot…with home steelers, at dallas, home jags left.
they are 7-3 in conference and we are 6-4 (think thats the first tiebreaker)….
so there it is….right in front of us.
we miss the playoffs this organization will go thru major changes….at the least both coordinators and might need a new QB. so alot is on the line.
I LOVE THE MILK CARTON!!! Too funny.
This team makes me crazy. Beat the Pats and Titans but lose to the Raiders and 49ers. Absolutely schitzophrenic.
Don’t panic yet. We are still in the drivers seat.
Let’s hope we don’t see a repeat performance of the Al Groh Jets in 2000. 9-4 record with 3 games to go.
The Jets end up losing out, going 9-7 and find themselves playing golf in January instead of football.
Tone was set 4 plays in when they punted from the SF 37 on 4th and 2. Indicated they were playing not to lose rather than to win. Aggression was lacking all day. They were passive on both sides of the ball and let the 49ers dictate. Truly awful uninspired performance.
well, well, well, the same old jets,so it seems, there was no aggression against one of the worst teams in the league,i cant stand looking at mangini chewing gum anymore,i wanna reach over and just choke him,he has no clue about coaching,he always looks lost, and how can shaun hill look like the old bret favre, where is the pass rush, how come they are not blitzing?
It is amazing to me how bad our draft was this year. Gholston? Look at how many rookies are excelling. Jets have Keller who is ok, and Lowery who is better than advertised, but not by much. Kansas City found three stellar cornerbacks in the draft.
im sure i will get killed for saying this…. if we still had chad we would be 8-5 as well… what was the point of favre coming here and trading draft picks, releasing chad who was a team leader, upsetting chemistry, and paying favre 12 million a year????? now when they were 8-3 i shut up cuz i was glad they were proving me wrong but after these last two im convinced we would have the same record with chad…. i wil end with this im not a fair weather fan, i bleed green and white, i hope we can get in the playoffs and like the giants last year win some close playoff games and the bowl cuz i know this team is capable of it…… go jets!!!!!!
I am happy that the team is going through a tough stretch right now.
These are the growing pain I thought were going to happen. We have to take it week by week and clearly today the 49ers played just a little bit better than the Jets.
I think Mangini should give more consideration to his defense now that Sutton is not moving the players during the game.
The only thing I wish we had was someone else at quarterback who wants to play the position for the team not someone who cares about his records and defending them for his sake. FARVE IS NOT THE GLUE THAT PENNINGTON WAS FOR THE TEAM DURING HIS TENURE!!!
I AM SORRY FOR ALL YOU FARVE HOPEFULLS!!!
We cannot rely on FARVE anymore we need to rely on the players who want to move forward and do what is best for the team.
after 13 games, I’m agreeing with dan. How great is Chad doing in Miami. He turned that football team around with sporano. Happy for him, but I miss him. Favre is not delivering the long ball that we brought him here for. In fact, the only long balls that Favre throws it to the other team, and I do not say that to add any pun, but I say it with all seriousness.
where is the favre of 2007? I’ve bit my tongue and lied to myself since September about #4. This is more than I can take.
thanks eddie… all im saying is how many games did chad lose for us ( i mean actually lose because of him) while he was starter???? not many with chad i always felt we can play with anybody not always win but be competitive… i really hope the jets can win out and win the division….. i just hope the dolphins can sneak in as a wildcard ( prob wont happen cuz of baltimore, indy, and new england) cuz chad deserves it… i am behind brett and the jets no matter what but the season is turning quick if they dont get it together…. go jets
The pass D is 31st in the league and people are pining for Chad Pennington? Denver and SF threw all over the Jets at will. Does Chad play free safety now? Guess what? Neither does Favre.
No team that has consistently given up the yardage the Jets have – even in the wins – has much chance advancing in the playoffs. I’d maintain that Favre, even with age-diminished skills, was a key to the Jets top 5 scoring offense for most of the season. Could Chad have paced the Jets to that many points? Maybe. He never came close in his 8 years here. But here’s the thing, it wouldn’t matter. Because the Jets pass D is so abominable and constantly forcing them to play from behind. Anyone behind center is going to have the odds stacked against him. I enjoyed Chad’s work while he was here but if he can’t cover WR’s in the slot he isn’t the answer to anything.
Jets would be 5-8 with Chad. Like subwayfare said, Chad cant cover the 80 year old Isaac Bruce like Drew Coleman does or doesnt. There whole defense looks confused out there, not communicating, blown coverages, how many more times are we going to see 3 or 4 Jets defenders standing around watching a TE or WR catching a pass. Schott and Sutton must go!
With that said, its amazing the Jets could still win the division.
Are you now getting the feling that you and your Johnny Styne club brothers that are still drunk with Farve worship kool aide are a quickly disappearing breed.
I’ve got news for you kiddo, like we have said from day one before Farve, THE JETS WILL STILL GO 10-6 and WITH Mangini AND Schotty.
“Everybody’s not on the same page,” Poteat said. “The secondary’s not in sync with the linebackers, the linebackers aren’t in sync with the guys up front.”
After 13 weeks, there can be no bigger indictment of a coaching staff.
According to NFL.com’s live updates the Jets took a 9-7 lead in the second quarter when Shaun Ellis tackled Frank Gore for a 37 yard loss in the endzone.
Looks like we spit the bit. Once a teams swagger is M.I.A. can it be recovered? I don’t know but it’s clear that on the way home from Tennesee the air got too thin too rare too fast and we lost it. This team didn’t believe the headlines when we were at our best, question is will we believe them now?
KD is right on….thought the same thing right at the start.
they surprise onsides and hand us the ball at the 46, and on 4th and 2 from their 38…..we are 8-4, and they are 4-8….we punt. (and of course dont tell our punter to just punt it out of bounds)
mangini was asked about it postgame, and he said he wanted to play field position. CMON COACH….thats what you do if YOU are 4 and 8 and they are 8-4….
They recover an on-side kick to start the game and on 4th and two from the 38 they punt?!! That screams that mangini has no confidence in his offense to get the 2 yards, or in his defense to hold the 49ers if they don’t.
The Jets are playing the season the way they play the games…not to lose. They think they can sit on their division lead and just cruise into the playoffs. Instead of crushing teams to win games the Jets go into that pathetic prevent defense, and now they are a prevent team. They play scared.
did anyone hear ray lucas on post game live talking about the pass D? he was beside himself how issac bruce torched us…saying how pathetic that was considering he is “a couple steps away from a wheelchair”.
i normally cant stand rayray but this just killed me. sad but true
Please don’t address me without actually reading or responding to the actual premise of my post, which was essentially about defense. If your only interest is in having a 4th grade level, “My quarterback can beat up your quarterback,” type of whine-fest, kindly direct it elsewhere.
I was at the game and it was terrible. The most uninsprired football I’ve seen the last game I was at (OAK 16 Jets 13 earlier this year).
What’s clear to me is two things:
1) We have no emotion whatsoever. Similar to our coach. Our pass defense is the worst I’ve EVER seen a Jets team have. How we go from a terrible run defense last year, to having the worst passing defense in the NFL this year is beyond me. I personally think it comes down to coaching. I’ve seen enough. Sutton needs to go. It’s enough already. the 3 man rush just simply doesn’t work as we still CANNOT stop the pass.
2) We can’t win on the west coast. We don’t travel well. I would be STUNNED if we beat Seattle in two weeks. We’ve lost all 3 west coast games this year (san diego, Oak, SF). Terrible.
Worst game I’ve ever been to. The niners are not good and we made Shawn Hill and Isaac Bruce look like Rice and Montana. We also lost in the trenches on both sides. They wanted it more. Coaching has to change.
It’s not just the West Coast, it’s any game that doesn’t start at 1 ET.
Other than the Thursday night OT win over NE, the Jets are 7-0 at 1 ET and 0-5 in all other games.
I reckon the Falcons-Raiders game that I inexplicably travelled halfway round the world to watch even though I dislike both teams was worse, but I feel your pain.
I have read most of your posts and the problem I have with your premise in general is that, as a good acolyte, Farve, the high priest, is never the doer of bad things. We must first blame everyone and everything else first. I hate to tell you but our passing D has sucked throughout our 13 games so far. The reson we lost so bad was because for the second game in a row our illustrious QB was out played again, in plain english he sucked, and the D has not bailed him out. NO, ZERO PRESSURE, wide open D.
My problem with everything you post is that it lacks intellectual honesty. Everything you write is based on the supposition that the entire universe is built solely on a love/hate Pennington/Favre continuum. Your constant use of ad hominem fallacies against posters who don’t fit into your sadly narrow, black or white perspective of Jets matters is increasingly tedious.
Ok, sounds good. Lets deal with “intellectual honesty”
Coles has been double covered the last two games– Why hasn’t Farve found anyone clutch except Keller —while throwing two INT’s, zero TD’s with a QB rating slightly over 60% in the last two losess? I haven’t heard Zippo, Nada, Any “intellectual honesty” from you or all your Farve worshipers about this. Where is all this “intellectual honesty ” you refer to?
How do you know Coles has been double covered without breaking down the game film. You cant read the coverage from watching it on tv. You make it all sound so easy. He cant find anyone else because the recievers quit on routes and get no separation. The offense is so predictable when in long yardage situations. Once again your elementary knowledge of the game rears its ugly head. If it was up to you Rich Kotite would still be coaching the Jets.
Favre sucked the past two games. The playcalling and gameplan sucked too. The defense cant get off the field. If the Jets coillapse and dont make the playoffs Mangini and his whole staff deserve to get fired. No in game adjustments and lack of fire will do that. They dug there own grave.
You’ve just proven my argument. My initial post was about pass defense and that the Favre/Pennington comparison was not germane to the discussion. Yet, once again, you’ve shown that you are unwilling, or perhaps incapable of, arguing the merits of specific issues. Your constant labeling of posters offering anything other than the narrow view you hold as “Favre acolytes,” “worshippers,” etc. defines you as a failed debater. Do yourself a favor and look up the logic term, “ad hominem fallacy.” If and when you choose to engage in intellectually honest debate, I will happily discuss Jets matters with you. Until then, I will ignore you and would ask same courtesy.

keller will be unbelievable down the road, and is great now
lowery will develop
easy killa give it time.
rome wasn’t built in a day, but the jets downfall could only take only one more week
I am happy that the team is going through a tough stretch right now.

oh swizzle you do realize chad is 8-5 with a supposedly inferior team right now?

coaches suck!
Favre sucks!
