If this isn’t a wake up call to the players I don’t know what is. The way it’s shaping up, the Jets have to win the division to get into the playoffs, and the way they’ve played the past two weeks, I just don’t see that happening.
From looking at the schedules for the Jets, Dolphins and Patriots I just don’t feel confident in this team winning out or that the Dolphins or Patriots are going to give them any more breathing room when I look at their schedules. All three teams have at least two light games left. It’s not a good picture for the Jets’ playoff chances.
The only way that the Jets know they are getting into the playoffs is by winning three straight. The crazy thing is that this season, even if the Jets win eleven games — the best they could do this season at this point — there’s no guarantee this year that eleven wins gets you a wildcard in the AFC.
While the Jets have been struggling to win, the Titans clinched the South but the Colts are surging. In the North, Baltimore is a game out of first place behind the Steelers. Both teams are 9-4 and there’s a real chance that both teams could win two games, or even one of these teams win two and at least one of the AFC East teams could win three straight totalling eleven wins.

they fooled me for the last time.time to watch roller derby!
-
Does it even matter that we make the playoffs? This team is not beating anyone who can complete a pass anyway.
And it’s obvious the rest of the league has gotten the memo that if you shut down the first 10-15 yards from scrimmage, the Jets can’t move the football.
It’s ironic. Even without Chad, we can’t connect the deep passes. Every throw Favre puts up past 20 right now looks like a hail mary.
Coles/Cothery are at best a 2nd or 3rd receiver on any other team.
-
The Dolphins are a lock to win week 16 when the play Miami…..JK
It should be…MIA @ KC
-
I am not going to even put this all on the Jets offense. The Jets defense has been overrated all year long. They have their moments but they fail to play consistently.
-
Bassett -
Just a heads up, the Patriots’ last game is in Buffalo, not Foxboro. It’s still the Bills, but it makes it less of a ‘gimme’ game.
I think the Pats will slip up once, and I think the Dolphins could potentially lose to the Chiefs or 49ers. We have to win out to feel safe, but if we do slip up again, I hope it’s against the Seahawks. 10-6 and 5-1 may be enough.

COACHING
BAD COACHING
VERY BAD COACHINGThis post should be titled “Eric’s Fantastic Excuse of the Week”
The schemes are horrible and now maybe everyone sees that (except of course Wacko 1 and Wacko 2 (Hank/Fonzie). who are clearly watching the Tampa Bay games and don’t know they are not the Jets.
Hey dudes- we wear Green. -
Salesmunn,
Unfortunately, I’m beginning to think that you are right about Coles/Cotchery. I didn’t want to believe it, but it has been crazy the lack of separation that those two guys can create. Even more, they cant create separation with one of the best running games in the league.
The thing with the jets is that they have completely abandoned the 12-15 yard out. By doing that, the defense has taken away the deep ball(even though coles/cotchery can’t run by anyone) and the intermediate middle of the field game. Mangini needs to come up with a new scheme to get the wide receiver involved because this just isnt cutting it.
-
And while everyone is in a realistic frame of mind (except you know who)
well coached teams get better as the year goes on-even Oakland, SF, Ind, TB, etc. This is week 14 and they are still solving week one problems. If the personnel can’t get it done, scheme around them. Oh, but that would be coaching. -
How is this even the same team that beat the Bills, Pats and Titans on the road? Shaun Hill looked like Peyton Manning yesterday. One half of our secondary is pro bowl worthy. Are the other half that bad? Harris comes back and plays well and we still look like the Lions on D
-
I think Tannenbaum has assembled some talent, but the coashing of that talent leaves much to be desired. It seems that other teams dictate to us each week what we will “be able to do.” Screw that. Godd teams “do what they do.” Like Pittsburgh. Like Baltimore. Watching the Ravens last night disrupt the Skins with their blitzing schemes drove me crazy. We have the personnel to do that. Why don’t we? Could we be that unimaginitive? If we can’t cover anybody with 8 dropping back, what’s the harm in sending a couple of more to make rhe QB decide quicker and potentitally (gasp) get a sack or TO? Sutton has got to go. The only stamp he’s put on this D is the ability to lay back and die the death of a thousand cuts.
-
Canadian Bacon – One half of our secondary? Really? What on earth has Kerry Rhodes done this season to be “Pro Bowl worthy”. He’s been an embarrassment. Without Revis it’d be Pop Warner caliber. Elam is good against the run, but lousy against the pass and the rotating second corner situation isn’t working.
The problem is moreso the pass rush though. We’re dropping eight guys into coverage and still getting beaten. As someone said in another post, “Five guys can NOT cover just as easily as eight can.” We’re getting beat no matter how many people we drop, so cut the crap and rush the quarterback.
To be fair to Sutton, when we did blitz yesterday, the defenders were weak as hell in their pursuit. It looked like we had 11 Vernon Gholstons out there. There was one play where Pace made a halfhearted attempt at a blitz and got knocked down like a b itch.
-
They blew their load in Ne, and Tenn. a fun season though!
-
Joe B, I hear you on Rhodes not doing much this season but he is still a pro bowl caliber safety. They are staying away from him because the other guys are SO BAD!!! Elam is probably the slowest safety in the league. We need to try to work Law into safety to get a little more speed out there. Our front 7 is big and strong but we need speed
-
Question: would we feel better if we lost to NE & Tenn and won the last 2?
-
Toon-
YES-At least it would be explainable. -
I think we might Toon. Our expectations would have been somewhat tempered. Instead for the first time in forever I had faith in our team. Our record against teams in a western division is lousy. With all three wins at home. The Cardinals was the only semi credible win and I feel they are pretenders.
-
Come on now, it’s obvious the NFL has turned into the WWE. The powers that be set this all up last year. It was predetermined that Favre and Pennington would be in new places this year, and it was set up (because it makes for good reality TV) that the Jets and Fins would be playing for their playoff lives on the very last game of the season. It’s all scripted folks. It’s gonna be like Hulk Hogan vs. the Ultimate Warrior all over again!!
Just kidding by the way, thought I’d inject some much needed humor into this situation. :)
-
toon you make a great point, winning those 2 proves we can play with the best of the AFC. Age old question is it better to have loved and lost or never loved at all
-
The Jets play scared, plain and simple.
1. They pass to Keller on the 3rd Down conversion attempt at 13:54 in the 1st Quarter was dropped, they didn’t go back to him until 39 seconds left in the SECOND QUARTER!
2. The Jets simply don’t blitz enough and seem to rush 3 way too often. It seems like whenever the Jets blitzed, they got through the line (San Fran’s O-Line is below average at best) and either got a sack or outright missed a tackle (probably due to complete surprise of actually seeing the quarterback for once, Lowry)
-
Here’s how it’s going to end:
Week 15
Jets over Bills (record 9/5)
Dolphins over 49ers (9/5)
Pats over Raiders (9/5)Week 16
Seahawks over Jets (9/6)
Dolphins over Chiefs (10/5)
Pats over Cardinals (10/5)Week 17
Jets over Dolphins (both 10/6)
Pats over Bills (11/5)Pats win division
-
You have a “KID” coaching kid’s for the most part……Favre hasn’t had a 300 yd game this year at all.Should have kept Chad if this was the offense you were running,it made more sense…….The “D” well, just plain bad, secondary terrible….But through all this right now,They still control there destiny. Now that’s amazing!!
-
I am not sure if Coach Mangini is stubborn or simply not watching the games with his eyes open but the Jets problems are all tied into one thing: They put less pressure on the opposing QB than any team in the league. Yes they have sacks but in between those 2-3 sacks each game they let opposing QB’s have more time then any team I have ever watched. YOU CAN NOT WIN IF YOU DO NOT PRESSURE THE QB. The secondary can not cover these guys for 10 seconds. Unless Mangini changes the defensive schemes, the Jets are dead. If they tank he needs to go.
-
While he coaching has sucked the last two weeks and Kris Jenkins has been getting dominated…I’ll tell you this right now the JETS will finish 11-5 and the will make it to at least the AFC title game.
For that to happen two things need to be done, Zone pass coverage, and a whole lot of blitzing. I’d rather get beat blitzing then sit back and watch the other team pick us apart because we have a LB in man coverage(Hence zone coverage). rush the passer every play send 5,6,7,8 guys just keep hitting that QB. Look at PITT and the NYG their CBs arent great but the blitz the hell out of the QB.
GET IT DONE!! OR THIS COACHING STAFF NEEDS TO GO!
-
No way 11-5!
Farve will throw a pick that will cost at least one game – check his history. -
If we lose to Bills we should forfeit the last 2
unreal that 2 weeks ago, we were 1 Pitt loss away from controlling our own destiny for 2 seed. Now we need to win 3 just to make playoffs
-
Give me a coach with some energy, enthusiasm and interaction with his players any day!! Give me Cowher or a Singletary. Even Belichick talks to his players in a game. How about a defensive coach who can teach the defense to play defensive. Consistency would be nice too. We have Favre and he isn’t being utilized to his best abilities. Please, someone please, coach this team!
-
The team looks like a disaster right now! Our play calling on both sides is pathetic. Dont know why favre is throwing up hail mary’s on 2nd and long when were around our own 20-30 yard line, all that does is put us in 3rd and long making it impossible to get a frist down.He did that i think 3x. Absolutely no offensive flow. It is pathetic that our WR’s cant get open, cant beat anyone deep and thats with 49ers missing their pro bowl caliber CB Nate Clements. The coaching tries to change their scheme depending on their oppenent rather than playing the way were good at- being running hard and lots of short passing to open up the running game, and using play action. 49ers weekness was there pass defense so we tried to stretch them, which we couldnt do cause our WR’s arent speedsters. So our flow was off all game. Game plan wasnt working and our coaches didnt make the adjustments. Time for new coaches. Defensively- we know it- we play soft coverage way too much, zone, and dont blitz consistently or deceptivley enough. Need new coordinators- new coaches. Mangini is a defensive coach- particularly secondary coach, and our secondary is pathetic- what does that say about him!
-
helayne- They only showed Mangini when the players on the field blew something (usually the defense). I have seen him talk to players. You want Singletary? Did you want Nolan too? They played poorly. The game was ours for the taking. 5 fumbles remember? Mangini may have downside, but I think you are wrong on that criticism.
-
The whole thing was an absolute joke out there. We make NO adjustments. Teams attack us the same way every week. They go to the 3 step drop and our secondary chases guys all over the field. Can we cut Drew Coleman? There has to be a guy sitting on his couch that can do a better job.
Mangini and his staff are going to run this thing right into the ground. They dont adjust things because they believe that watching film is the end all be all of game preparation. Right now I can just see the Dolphins walking out of the Meadowlands with a AFC East crown. Yesterday was the last straw and I wouldnt miss any of the coaches if they left today. -
Oh and the Refs sucked. The majority of the times Keller was the target he was held. Had we got those catches or penalties it could have been a different game too. Believe me that I think we sucked really bad yesterday, but we still very easily could have won sucking that poorly.
-
Wise old Bill Parcells always said that you never are as good as you look when you win or as bad as you look when you lose. The Jets will beat both Buffalo and Miami at home- I have absolutely no doubt about that. The key will be going west and getting one friggin’ game.
And Ed Hochuli and his merry band of incompetents were at least as bad as the Jets secondary.
-
Sshhhhhhhhhh!!!! You guys hear that? THE DOLPHINS ARE COMING!!!!!!!
-
who in their right mind would pay for the psl after another jet heartbreak season.jets have a line, leon, keller and revis and everything else must go.start radliff and murrell to see if there’s a future.
-
No they aren’t. It’s the Pat’s the Jets have to worry about. Dolphins still have to go into the cold and beat us. Chad’s arm vs the wind.
-
Mangina has no answer to Pennington’s “noodle” arm. You guys are the only ones who believe that hype. Thanks for your leftovers.
-
You have to be really lame to go on other fans’ blogs just to talk trash. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the Dolphins are fool’s gold. They’re going to lose one of their next two games.
-
LOL! I know, I’m such a lame. Stupid isn’t it? But it still doesn’t change the fact they you guys are unraveling right before your very eyes. You keep believing your own hype. Whats it gonna feel like when we win the AFC East title on your home field?
-
Such a lame. What are you ten or dumb?
-
Oh and by the way there is scientific evidence that the mentally challenged love Dolphins.
-
Just a lil exurpt from Peter King’s article today on SI.
“The AFC East is going to have two heartbroken teams. Only the division winner will make the playoffs. I’ll take the team playing the best defense: Miami. Incredible. Miami with a home playoff game.”
-
Here’s a lil more…
“Storm clouds gather over the Meadowlands. The Jets are this week’s version of the cheap suit. Folded. Wrinkled. Fraudulent. They’re 0-3 on the West Coast (San Diego, Oakland, San Francisco, with a game at Seattle in two weeks — and let’s not laugh at Seattle, the way the Seahawks played New England). It’s going to be a tough pill for Woody Johnson to swallow after spending more money in football than any other owner in the offseason, to fall from 8-3 to out of the playoffs if they don’t make it.”
-
Peter King has been biased against the Jets for over 20 years. Sports writers are pathetic shells of people. He can’t do a push up yet judges 32 rosters of finely tuned athletes. Wow you’re a loser. You are a Dolphins fan and probably a virgin.
-
Plus who have you beaten on the road other than the Patriots? Which was won because they were not expecting the Wildcat. Then they schooled you in your building.
-
Hahahaaaa. Looks like I ruffled some feathers. I am a virgin how did you guess? You wanna take my flower? Or are you the one who’s a little green? I bet you the closest thing you’ve seen to a vagina is Eric Mangina
-
J-E-T-S. Just Eastern Time Success
-
Dolphins will choke. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. You beat a bad Buffalo team in a dome. I’d temper my expectations.
-
seriously…dolfan…. relax.
miami aint that good….and if there is something on the line in week 17….there is no way in hell you guys are winning that game,
and remember guys,,,this loser is talking to us HERE b/c there are no dolphin sites….b/c thier fans are hardly loyal or intelligent enough to have one of their own.
-
You see guy, we’ve already exceeded expectations. We we’ren’t even supposed to be in the hunt this late or, should I say this early. Next season was supposed to be our comming out party. You guys on the other hand, everytime you have some moderate success, act as if you own the league already. I love the fact everyone was on the Jets band wagon 2 weeks ago, then moment you guys were xposed for the true loosers you guys are, everybody got off on the next stop. Hows it gonna feel to loose another west coast game to Seneca Wallace?
-
Nothing cements an argument like a quote from Peter King.
-
The Jets under Mangini are not winning 3 games in a row unless there is another miracle on 34th Street in the making. After going 8-3, the JETS finish 9-7 and watch the playoffs from the sidelines. BRING ON BILL COWHER!!!
-
Klecko, you’re right. Its tough for us ignorant Miami folk to get the interweb down here. Makes talking trash to New Yorkers downright near impossible. I’m glad I got ahold of this abicus with wi-fi. I reckon you guys hate me right now. GOOD! Cuz I hate Jets fans. I bet you could go to any Dolphin site and see the same thing from Jets fans. You guys are more annoying than Florida Gator fans. Actually that not true, cuz we call the Gator fans down here the Jets fo College football.
-
I have been on the Jet’s bandwagon since I was born. We were 4- 12 last year. With two or our wins over you guys, which barely should count. Smart football people know it is hard to go toan opposite coast and win. We still have quality wins. I can tell from wtaching both our teams play that the rest of the people in the playoff hunt want the Dolphins to win, because you haven’t come close to beating a quality opponent.
As for why King and Banks are on you band wagon is because you are a Cinderella story. How did that go for the Rays or Rockies. You sell papers not win championships. Banks before the season and after the Favre trade had us winning 5 games. King was similar. Those experts sure are amazing. Watch the games and bring analysis.
-
Editor- You just plain aren’t a Jets fan and have permanently lost any form of respect I ever could have had for you. You are a broken record. BTW we won 5 games in a row you schmuck!
-
You guys are right, Peter King is a tool. I was just adding fuel to the fire. Jets are still gonna loose to the Seahawks though.
-
Well duh we can’t win in the West.
-
Editor thinks the problem with Schotty is that he’s too conservative, what with running the ball 11 times and calling trick plays left and right. That’s conservative, apparently.
His problem is he tries to reinvent the wheel instead of just riding the horse (TJ) who got us to 8-3.
-
Our O needs a spark and a way to get Keller behind D backs. More running, more play action and for the love of god will someone get some seperation. Maybe we should send a tape of all the times Keller got held, so the zebras can watch for it.
-
I’m glad to see your coming around Greenguy. We still got room on the Dolphin bandwagon, since nobody has faith in us. Thats how we are gonna keep it too. Keep doubting, keep saying we suck. The pressure is all on you guys. But i hope you guys really do win on the west coast (even though you’re not) so it makes the 28th all more interesting.
-
I would rather be ripped apart eternally by a plague of scarabs than be a Dolphins fan. Thanks for the offer though.
-
If you win both and we go 1-1 we still just need to win to get in ahead of you. I’m more worried about the Pats they don’t have anything in their way.
-
dolf-loser…. i have been to games in miami. ur loser fans leave early…..as in 3rd quarter early.
and games in september?? alot of ur fans wuss out b/c of the heat. (although i gotta admit its freakin hot as hell down there in september…i went to week 1 vs the jets….sat in the end zone…otherwise known as the other side of the sun)
agree…ur team is having an amazing season, its a great story….you got a gift yesterday b/c that game was played in a dome in front of fans who couldnt care less who was playing….
but as far as “next year was supposed to be our coming out party??” before u got chad u had no QB, and when the season started chad was supposed to be a bridge to some other QB.
their success this year is cool….i personally am happy for chad….
but u wont win week 17…not a chance.
-
I kno $hit has hit the fan here in ny, and nobody is more dissapointed than me, but the finger pointing as to why we are not doing good is getting crazy. I see Joe B. has some type of enfatuation with Kerry Rhodes, on a whole the secondary hasn’t been good but is NOT kerry’s fault. Its not like he’s out there missing reads and getting beaten by WR’s, if anything he’s not really being thrown to because of the lack of respect for lowery and coleman and when he does seem late on a cover its usually because it wasn’t his initial assignment and picking up for someone else’s mishap. As far as our WR’s…..Alright, the route running is terrible and we haven’t seen seperation unless its a playaction. But my thing is……….we can’t really throw them under the bridge if the only get 5 passes tossed their way, thank god T.O isn’t on our team, he’d have a heart attack, lol. But seperation shouldn’t be an issue if it means they can’t catch the ball. Arizona has the best wideouts in the game and they don’t need seperation to be effective. Most of farve’s picks haven’t come from db’s being too close to our wideouts but from simple misreads and crazy bombs. I think this mainly falls back on the coaching staff and ability to adjust when the gameplan isn’t looking to great. Period. And I’m wondering if this coaching staff really pushes the players to maximize their abilities and put them in positions to be most effective. Honestly, I was extremely jealouse of that sack the niners got yesterday because that blitz package they setup was beatiful. I haven’t seen that AT ALL this year!…..and we wonder why VG is so bad?….sutton is clueless if you ask me…and mangini has to grow some balls…..but we’ll see what happens
-
bottom line is that Chad is a very good QB. Dolphins are doing very well.
No sense in crying over the last two pathetic performances.
We had a similar pathetic performance against KC and got a win. We had a near second half meltdown against NE and got a win. So we lost 2 games. If we cant beat Buffalo and Seatle, we have no chance in the playoffs anyway.
If we do beat them, we all know that all of us long suffering Jets fans will be back on the bandwagon for more eventual suffering…
What happens if the Jets lose to the Fins but all three teams wind up 10-6. Who wins the division..???

If the Jets win 11 games they are in the playoffs. Period. They control their destiny in the division.
