Who would have seen this one coming? Well Jets fans, I told you so. The Jets took a beating on Sunday in San Fran, bringing this once hugs and kisses team back down to the reality that is the NFL. Two weeks ago the team had won five games in a row, and everyone was talking about a Jets Giants Super Bowl 43 in Tampa. Well if one thing hasn’t changed since then, its that the Super Bowl will be in Tampa.
Last week I cautioned against the sad reality of this team growing complacent from what the Niners had to offer. Now they head back home losers of two games in a row to face the Buffalo Bills who are dealing with a sad reality of their own after losing three of four to the Browns on MNF, those very same Niners at home, and last week the Dolphins north of the border in Toronto.
Last week, the Bills offense played miserably, amounting to just three points and under 200 yards of total offense. The defense, on the other hand, was on the field for two thirds of the game and held it’s sixth opponent to under 17 points. The reason for the Bills looking so unbalanced is because the offense couldn’t do a thing. Any amount of points by the Dolphins would have beaten Buffalo’s woeful offense. Kawika Mitchell, the former Super Bowl Champion LB with the Giants noticed that this unit may have to carry the entire team when the offense is down. “We get in certain situations where obviously we are down 16-3,” he said. “We are trying to cause a fumble or an interception or something just to spark the team or try to put points on the board somehow, some way. If something is slacking we definitely try to pick it up out there.”
The stars defensively last weekend were LB Paul Posluszny who had 11 tackles and Safety Bryan Scott who had 10 tackles, making 9 of them all by himself. The linebacking corps were able to stuff the middle, holding the Miami running backs to just 3.4 yards per carry, with the longest run amounting to 22 yards. I wouldn’t be so confident in the Bills defense this Sunday, simply because they are facing a top five rusher in Jones on one of the top scoring teams in the league. There really isn’t that much to offer from Buffalo.
Lee Evans could give you some trouble through the air, which is the spot where the Jets couldn’t figure out the 49ers last week. Two receivers had six catches and even the running back had a touchdown. However, the area that the Jets couldn’t get together last week was simply the offense as a whole. For Brett Favre to have under 200 passing yards and zero touchdown passes is a very rare occurence, one that the Jets should make sure doesn’t happen again. I believe that last week was a fluke and that this week, Gang Green will come ready to play.
Let’s hope.

Gang Green is in for another tough game. They don’t score 30, they’re not winning.
