Erik Ainge Back With Team

Rookie QB Erik Ainge is back practicing with the team this week. Ainge, was suspended four weeks ago for testing positive for a banned substance from the league’s steroid policy list.

The Jets likely have a couple days yet to determine how they will find him a roster spot.

UPDATE:  Here’s what Ainge had to say about his suspension, from Jane McManus.

I made a silly mistake, obviously I wasn’t using steroids,” Ainge said. He said he wasn’t sure how specific he was allowed to get. “I took something I wasn’t supposed to take one time during the week and I suffered the consequences,”

  1. Didn’t they already IR him? So they don’t have to add him to the roster and can’t now even if they want to.

  2. Why do they need to find him a roster spot? Is anybody afraid of losing this guy?

  3. I dont wanna lose him, but there’s no need for him to be off IR. And if Mangini would IR Nugent, we could get another ILB. HINT,HINT…

  4. “I made a silly mistake, obviously I wasn’t using steroids.” Well, looks like the Ainge arrrogance is back … what a deal, making 460K a year just to be a 4th-string learning pro quarterback being mentored by coaches, and supposedly a top-level high school and college student academically, but then he asserts that the laws of chemistry don’t apply to him. Yep, he’s now just a ride-the-family-name jock who will be out of the league in a few short years.
