Rookie QB Erik Ainge is back practicing with the team this week. Ainge, was suspended four weeks ago for testing positive for a banned substance from the league’s steroid policy list.
The Jets likely have a couple days yet to determine how they will find him a roster spot.
UPDATE: Here’s what Ainge had to say about his suspension, from Jane McManus.
I made a silly mistake, obviously I wasn’t using steroids,” Ainge said. He said he wasn’t sure how specific he was allowed to get. “I took something I wasn’t supposed to take one time during the week and I suffered the consequences,”

Why do they need to find him a roster spot? Is anybody afraid of losing this guy?

I dont wanna lose him, but there’s no need for him to be off IR. And if Mangini would IR Nugent, we could get another ILB. HINT,HINT…

“I made a silly mistake, obviously I wasn’t using steroids.” Well, looks like the Ainge arrrogance is back … what a deal, making 460K a year just to be a 4th-string learning pro quarterback being mentored by coaches, and supposedly a top-level high school and college student academically, but then he asserts that the laws of chemistry don’t apply to him. Yep, he’s now just a ride-the-family-name jock who will be out of the league in a few short years.

Didn’t they already IR him? So they don’t have to add him to the roster and can’t now even if they want to.
