AP Source’s Minor Detail on Cowher to Jets
Posted on December 30th, 2008 by Kirk Cassels
Clayton said this, Mortensen said that, and now a source that’s familiar with the situation gives The Associated Press a minor detail, stating that “Cowher has not given the Jets the impression he must have total control of personnel.”
The key word here is total. How much control must Cowher have to accept the head coach position at the Jets and how much will Woody and Tannenbaum be willing to compromise?

The amount of misinformation that comes out of these “insiders” in their quest to be first is incredible. Someone needs to start tracking this like a QB rating or batting average.
The way I see it is, Mike Tannenbaum served as a willing (and capable) General Manager to adopt the coach’s managerial system to land the appropriate players. Therefore, he can continue to do the same with Cowher.
I’m hopeful that a dialog among Woody, Tannenbaum and Cowher can work this out.
I say give him whatever control he wants. If you see the 2009 Jets Oppnents, you are going to want Cowher here to coach the Jets. Its what the fans want Woody, now go get Cowher
If any Jet Fans here have myspace, come disscuss Jets football all day, here is the link

I believe that Cowher could and would live with the level of input that Mangini had with personnel. Eric and Mike talked everyday, and Mr. T got the “core value” players Eric craved. It’s not much different than BB and Scott Pioli, right?
Mike, I wouldn’t put too much stock into who the opponents are, as much as the schedule does look tough – if you saw Seattle, Oakland, and SF on there you would be excited and, well, you know..
I think that Tannenbaum is untouchable. He has done a great job and Woody should not compromise to get Cowher. Only non-Masochists can think that Tannenbaum has done a bad job.
The media is gonna Mess this one up for the Jets. Cowher may walk cus im pretty sure he has already had it with the press.
Not the same situation, but I thought Bradway was gone a few years ago, and then they found a new role for him which worked very well. I think they could do the same sort of thing with Tannenbaum, maybe give him a new title like “president and chief officer in charge of all the stuff The Chin can’t be bothered to deal with”
Nik – you’ve lost me. Weren’t you criticizing Tannenbaum’s cap management skills earlier? Have you been convinced you were wrong or were you being sarcastic (then or now)? Or are you just trying to confuse us all?
not total control = these are the type of guys i want. go get them. if we have a split in judgment, i break all ties.
the 2nd part is the big part, because the first already existed with mangini, and probably not the 2nd.
Bubby, How’d you like Favre’s screen to the D-Lineman? Could almost make you forget ol’ number 6 and Sam Mills. Almost.
Didnt Nikolas get into a argument and then get scolded on a prev ious post for saying Mr T was a bad GM?? Guy this guys kills me?
Just saw that Bent asked the same question
I think Nikolas was being sarcastic.
WFAN was also reporting that Cowher would want to name his own director of player personnel or at least have a say in it, a role Tanny currently has. If Tanny keeps his GM title, new director of player personnel comes in, Cowher gets to coach, I think you cannot go wrong with that scenario.
I say we do what ever needs to be done in order to get Cowher or someone of his proven ability (parcells).
wowowwowow

shanahan fired
lets get him!
that’s a joke, right?
OMG ITS TRUE!
What are the Broncos thinking? Sorry Bill but you’ve got some competition
Fact – Shanahan fired
Cowher’s draft history with the Steelers is not so great. i’d be a little wary about handing him the keys to the kingdom. Am I wrong?
