Poll: Do You Want Favre Back Next Year?

by Bent on December 31st, 2008 at 5:01 pm

Newsday reported yesterday that most Jets fans want Brett Favre back. However, on the evidence of most of the comments here, I would suggest this is incorrect. Although, if 80% of die hard Jets fans don’t want him, but 80% of casual fans do, maybe the Newsday report had some legs. Either way, let’s do some semi-scientific research and then if the results are heavily in favor of dumping him, we’ll make sure Newsday (and by extension, perhaps the Jets organization) are aware of this.

I don’t have the ability to run a poll, so simply comment below and start your message with “Yay” or “Nay”.

BUMPED: It’s going down to the wire, so make sure your voice is heard. Polls close at 7:30pm ET.

  1. avatar Joe B. says:

    NAY.

In fact, I wrote a parody of Eamon’s “F**k It, I Don’t Want You Back” for Mr. Favre. Yes, I’m bored this holiday week.

  2. avatar ramble914 says:

    Nay, get rid of him.

  3. avatar klecko71 says:

NAY….especially if it cost us cowher….

this is a joke already and its been 48 hrs since we fired our coach.

  4. avatar pico says:

How many ways, in how many languages can a person say “NAY”? Nein! Nao! Non! No! &c.

  5. avatar Bent says:

    Nay.

I fully expect him to have a much better season next year, but I’d rather have KC or Ratty (with a cheap veteran backup?) and $10m to spend on upgrading other areas of the team than Favre, even if his performance is better than 2008.

Brett is not off to a great start.

  6. avatar TimNC says:

    Nay.

Agree with Bent. Start KC, spend the saved money elsewhere.

  7. avatar Aticus says:

    Yay!

Get rid of Coles and he’ll be fine!

  8. avatar Brandon "You're With Me"riweather says:

    NAY

Every second that favre is a part of this team is a detriment to the franchise. (excluding #4 jersey sales to former packer fans, of course)

  9. avatar garrett says:

NAY I think favre should just retire, or go play some place other then here or in the AFC EAST. The Jets just cant take on a self centered superstar.

  10. avatar kip128 says:

    Nay!

But, a little nervous since I do think that we have a good team so we need a quality QB that won’t blow this window.

  11. avatar Drew says:

    Nay

40 year old quarterbacks do not improve year over year

  12. avatar SteveH. says:

    YAY!

I feel with a different coach, he might be a heck of a lot better.

  13. avatar I Love the '90s says:

    Absolutely not.

  14. avatar zenlaw says:

Favre may be one of my all-time favorite football players, but he appears to be WAY past his prime.

    Reluctantly, I say nay.

  15. avatar LeeH says:

    Nay Nay Nay

  16. avatar Shamas says:

    Negative

  17. avatar mole57 says:

NAY. I would say YAY if not for that freakin’ consecutive starts streak. If it were any other veteran QB, he would have sat out a game or two to heal while KC or Ratliff led the team. But selfish Brett has to keep his streak alive and hurt the team by playing hurt.

  18. avatar JasonInDC says:

    Nay
I had been cautiously optimistic all year but in the end he is 39 years old. I believe if it was another QB he would have been sat those last 4 games or so because of his injury (not play). But because it’s Brett and “the streak”, that was not possible. I do believe, possibly incorrectly so, that the team would have won a few of those last few games (after TN) if Kellen had been starting to allow Favre to heal.

  19. avatar robert06907 says:

    NAY

  20. avatar Dale Smith says:

Nay…I’ve seen enough of the Favre show.

  21. avatar Bassett says:

    Nay.

I guess the die-hards and the pink-hats are split on this one …

  22. avatar J. Giamarco says:

    NAY!!!!!

  23. avatar Najy says:

    Nay…

And i ll tell you why…

Everyone can make excuses about bad coaching and injuries that led to Brett Favre and his interceptions.. but it was his horrible decision making on the field. His lackadaisical attitude reflected his poor play on the field. He did not take care of the football and refused to learn from his mistakes…

How many times does he need to chuck the ball down field and get it intercepted before he learns that we dont have jump ball receivers?

-He never audibled at the line of scrimmage…
-He never adjusted his game to fit the Jets and Coach Mangini..
-He was erratic and inconsistent in his throws
    -His accuracry was very suspect
-He kept making the same mistakes over and over again.. Any good Qb makes the proper adjustments after making the same mistake about 10 times.

    Bottom line..
    -You cant coach 22 interceptions.
-You cant play with some one who turns the ball over that many times..

    Get rid of him… NOW!!!
    -

  24. avatar Chris says:

    NAY.

If I had confidence in our situation, I would say bring him back. But since we don’t have a coach, our coordinators are terrible and we have an aging group with multiple questions at other positions- we need to move on, rebuild and see what we have in Ratliff.

I think the coaching was a big hinderence for Mr. Favre, so I don’t say No all to him but he needs to be a casualty at this point, so we can rebuild and ensure future success.

  25. avatar Vinny says:

Adios oh king of the interception

  26. avatar Jdogsofla says:

No, Nein, Nyet, Nay, Mao. I found 500 ways to say it. Do you really wnat me to go there?

I think Brett Ratliff should get the nod. Let the QB’s battle it out in camp.

An honest competition btween all QB’s not named Farve. Fav ruh.

  27. avatar ESD says:

I’d rather see someone with a little more left in the tank have a boom or bust year

  28. avatar LA Masochist says:

Yay. I would rather watch an over-the-hill Favre throw another 22 interceptions than to watch a full season of Kellen Clemens.

  29. avatar RJ says:

    nay a million times over

  30. avatar Murry Angelino says:

Not unless you want yet another miserable, losing season–which is the traditional style of the Jets

  31. avatar TFlyntz says:

Nay. I didn’t like the idea from the start. Jets need to have a new coach that can develop Clemens or Ratliff. Favre was a stopgap at best and the situations in Atlanta, Baltimore, and New England demonstrate that a young QB can do well if the core of the team has talent. I believe the Jets fit that model.

  32. avatar JetsRwinners says:

Nay. It is time for Brett Ratliff. While we are at it, let’s get rid of Coles.

  33. avatar Reprocity says:

Nay! I’m all for a QB competition! I’m pulling for Ratliff.

  34. avatar VCD says:

    Nay.

    Give me RATLIFF.

  35. avatar Andrew Weiss says:

Nay, not for me. I didn’t want him at first and I don’t want him back. I thought it might actually work in mid-season and was proved wrong in the last five games. I remember turning 40, it wasn’t pretty. He’s done.

  36. avatar ESD says:

    Nay

    Look at Newsday Poll now

  37. avatar DSmizzle says:

Yay, because there aren’t any better options.

The most popular player on a team with poor QB play is always the backup (in the JETS’ case, its 3rd stringer Brett Ratliff).

The awful QB play came in the last 5 games. Prior to that, things were going well.

Finally, not only do I see Favre as their best option for next year, I also think that it is theoretically possible that he will not want to go out like this, and if he decides to come back early enough, could have his most motivated offseason of his career to prove the nay-sayers wrong.

  38. avatar hank/naples says:

PRAISE THE LORD, PRAISE THE LORD !!!!!!!

    I counted 42 NAYS 3 yay’s (including the Masochist)

NOW WE HAVE TO GET RID OF W. JOHNSON and we are trully on our way to recovery.

  39. avatar Najy says:

Thomas Jones on HOT 97. He was asked what he thought about Brett Favre and the Miami game.

    Check this out!!!

    http://www.livesteez.com/videos/watch/BkNKPfL

  40. avatar hank/naples says:

PS. I have a strong feeling that before this is over we are all going to wake up from the kool aide hangover and wish we had Mangini back.

  41. avatar Giles says:

NAY! He’s a dumbass, a prima donna, and a raving egomaniac. There is no way Kellen Clemens could play any worse than him. The Having Fun and Boyish Enthusiasm Quotients of the team would be reduced, but victories would rise.

  42. avatar DSmizzle says:

If I had to choose between keeping Mangini or Favre, I’d have kept Mangini. I don’t think that could have worked for next year. Don’t think that was possible at all.

However, the owner made his decision, and Mangini is gone. A different coach will be coming in, and we are no longer presented with that “Mangini-or-Favre” choice; its been made.

I wasn’t thrilled to see Mangini canned. I understand why, but I wanted him to have one more year.

  43. avatar hank/naples says:

    Najy:

Got to compliment you on that great find. TJ finally told it like it is at the end. Great link.

  44. avatar Harlan Lachman says:

    Nay,

And for a different reason. Favre may be able to win here. But he debilitates a coaching staff by forcing them to adjust to his foibles unlike Chad who always wanted to get better. Can you imagine Brett hiring a shrink, a nutiritionist, and changing his motion to improve himself as Chad did to become a better Jet?

It always felt to me that Shottini were calling plays to appease #4. This is bass ackwards.

Favre retiring will hurts this team for one year, but only one if Tannenbaum is a decent GM and picks the right coach (seem my post in other thread).

    harlan

  45. avatar Andrew says:

nay but i thank brett for what he did he put the jets on the map and made a lot of money off jerseys

  46. avatar Krista says:

LA Masochist and DSmizzle, I totally agree. I would much rather see Favre throw another 22 INT’s than see Clemens all year, and that’s what it will be. Give me Favre…he’s a great QB, and he will definitely not want to go out being remembered for how he played the last 5 games of the season. And for all you guys that say that we had a miserable season, think again…things were great until the last 5 games. Don’t forget that!

  47. avatar hank/naples says:

    Harlan:

Your point is well taken and it shows how much irrational pressure Johnson and suck-up Tannenbaum put on Mangini to win. And to end up firing him it’s just a disgrace and they should be held accountable.

  48. avatar Najy says:

    hank/naples,

Thanks. I heard it last night on the radio and looked it up.

I wish there is a way to put this up on the blog so everyone can see it.

  49. avatar charleyjet says:

NAY NO NO WAY NO HOW NO NO NO NO

  50. avatar hank/naples says:

    Krista;

It’s not only the last five (5) games, IT”S THE LAST FIVE (5) YEARS !!!!!

  51. avatar hank/naples says:

I know what you mean, it’s great stuff.

  52. avatar ian says:

checkout pollhost.com. it will let you put up a poll in the post.

by the way, if john harbaugh and cam cameron can win with joe flacco then we can win with the right coach (shanahan) and brett ratliff.

  53. avatar hank/naples says:

Correction: Last comment directed at Najy.

  54. avatar mole57 says:

    Krista,
Same can be said for Dallas. Selfish players undermine a TEAM.

  55. avatar DSmizzle says:

    Krista:

I agree with your points except I don’t think he’d throw 22 INT’s again next year. I think he’d have a better season overall, and be more consistent. Hard to imagine that not being the case.

  56. avatar MoLewis135 says:

    Give me a break.

The guy couldn’t possibly be less passionate or commitment to winning. Isn’t that why we just fired Mangina?!

What could possibly change for him between this year and next? Does someone think he’ll suddenly decide throwing off his back foot into triple coverage on first and second down is a bad idea? Will he wake up a year older and miraculously be more accurate than the 50/50 guy we’ve seen this month?!

To quote the “Furry” chick from craigslist that Turtle met at Starbucks: “Don’t be desperate. It’s gross.”

  57. avatar Daniel in Oklahoma says:

    Nay

  58. avatar Mel31602 says:

Yay- Krista I agree I want Favre back only because there’s no one else out there. I would have liked McNabb but he’ll likely stay put with the Eagles in the playoffs. I don’t want Cassel (system QB) or Anderson (expensive and overrated). Maybe Kerry Collins would be okay but Tenn. likely won’t let him go. Anyway I’d say give Favre one more year with a new coaching staff as long as he agrees to come to the offseason program.

  59. avatar scapp says:

    NAY
He’s an interception machine who will hurt the Jets way more than help them. I was being attacked last year for defending Pennington and his “Noodle” arm (that found plenty of deep receivers this year). As I said 1000 times already, they should have kept him. With the O line beefed up, he would have won 12 games this year..

  60. avatar Pete57 says:

    Nay.
And this is someone who wholeheartedly wanted Favre here. I don’t think he’s terrible, but with the team we have, I’d rather have a young QB who will listen to the coaching staff. I still want to see Clemmens play with a decent OL and running game. On another note, Favre and Mangini are 2 seperate issues. Mangin did a bad job and he should’ve been fired. Now go get Shannahan.

  61. avatar Lou says:

    Hell NAY!

Stick a fork in him! PLEASE RETIRE! Can’t stand seeing him in a Jets uniform anymore.

  62. avatar SAMIAMSPORTS says:

    For the Love of G-D
    NAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  63. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

    Conditional Nope

    – Meaning I would not bring him back as my starter!!!!
    – I would take him as a back-up to continue teaching Ratliff!
    – I would take him back as QB coach.

    – Remember there is a financial issue of $13 mill we are locked into. Would you just throw that money out the window or would you be more creative?
    – We could force Favre to second string.
    – What if he wants to retire, aren’t we still tied to the 3 year contract?

If the jets are still stuck paying him after he retires then then wouldn’t it be in our best interest to bring him back as a QB coach?
The guy has said it many times he likes the feeling of being wanted, and what better way to to recuperate the money that we are paying him for!

Hey I’m all for burning people at the stake, but when big money is on the table we need to think more clearly!

  64. avatar Bent says:

Ian – thanks, but on reflection this is actually better than a poll because I can ensure that nobody is ballot box stuffing. Plus we get to see many people’s arguments for and against, plus an indication of just how strongly people feel.

  65. avatar Daniel in Oklahoma says:

why does everyone want an old quarterback like kerry collins or mcnabb. Did we not just make this mistake!!! Mcnabb may not be as old as favre or collins but this is rediculous. everyone is still focusing on going and getting an old verteran quaterback who has experience but i say we go with a fresh face. NO CASSEL, MCNABB, COLLINS, FAVRE, or any other well known or old quarterback. everybody is saying we need to come up with our own identity. well then lets start with Ratliff and yes even clemens. everybody will say clemens sucks and i have to somewhat agree but when we got favre everyone was saying how it will make clemens better. So lets see if it did. If anyone wants the jets to find their identity, then we need to start ratliff or clemens. Even if it takes time. Lets not make another mistake by bringing in some big name quarterback who has done great for other teams. Can we please find our own.

  66. avatar Eric says:

I love Favre, but it is time to hang it up.

  67. Nay, nope, nada, nix – you get the point.

Would any other QB not named Marino or Elway get this much slack at age 40 (point being that we should judge him by his performance, not his name)? Do they really think he’ll be better than a 25 year old Clemens? I guess it’s all about the psl sales and that is sad.

I was wishing they would bench him in the Miami game, when he got hurt, I thought they might. They ONLY way they should bring him back is if the HC (whoever he is) has an appropriately short leash and benches him if warranted.

  68. avatar subwayfare says:

    Nay

I was just barely for taking the gamble based on Favre’s ’07 performance and Chad’s erratic injury prone play over the last few years. After a 4-12 season and many new acquisitions to be fit in, I didn’t have outsized expectations for ’08 and thought he might bring a little energy and enthusiasm, if nothing else. I refused to post a win-loss prediction after the trade because I felt it could go either way. And it did. It went both ways. I thought Favre made some great plays that won games but, especially down the stretch, made more terrible plays that lost them. If they cut him and move on, I will feel the gamble would have been reasonable at the cost of a 3rd rounder. The rest of the new acquisitions have a year under their belt and the team got a couple of big, confidence-building wins that should make for an easier environment for a young QB like Ratliff or KC to step into.

  69. avatar TraderTodd says:

    Nay Nay!

Favre brought some excitement and hope for awhile, but he’s finished. I’m looking forward to a 4-way competition between KC, Brett2, Ainge and an unnamed veteran.

  70. avatar Pete57 says:

I’m also glad we got rid of Pennington. I admit he played well this year. I never disliked him. But the problem with Pennington is that he’s just good enough to get you to believe in him, but he’s not good enough to carry a team when needed. This year will be another confirmation of that. I do not think Miami has any chance against Baltimore. We’ll see, but Miami is not going anywhere in the playoffs regardless. It’s also amazing that the Chad supporters want to cut him slack for his horrible play last year, because he was injured. Well, shouldn’t Favre get the same slack for the last 5 games? The answer is obviously yes. I know that it’s tough to bench a legend, but if Mangini had guts, he would’ve sat Favre before the Seattle game. Hey, his job was on the line and the QB was injured.

  71. avatar Steve in China says:

    Nay, I say!

If there are no better options, I’m all for handing the reins of the offense to whoever wins a competition between Ratliff and Clemens, (probably Ratliff,) and relying on our running back tandem of Thomas Jones and Leon Washington.

    Go Jets!

  72. avatar GregNJ says:

Nay… let’s start fresh with a new coach an a new qb from the stable and if that doesn’t work just draft somebody in the 2nd or 3rd round, but Farve needs to retire. The EXPERIMENT IS OVER, lets move on.

  73. avatar Bent says:

    jets fan 4 life:

Again…he can be cut or traded without any cap ramifications whatsoever*. If he retires, the Jets are not on the hook for any money at all (and would also get an extra 7th rounder).

    * Favre could then negotiate a new deal with whosoever he chooses.

I trust that makes your conditional nope a fully fledged nay?

  74. avatar Nick says:

    Yay -

He is the best option and he will be motivated to have a better year if he decides to come back early enough in the off season. It will also depend on the new coach, whoever it may be.

  75. avatar Jets-Fan-4-Life says:

    Thanks for the clarity Bent.

Conditional moved to full fledged “Nope”!

  76. avatar Krista says:

    Scapp,
As slow as our receivers seem to be, and unable to get separation, there is still no way that Pennington would have been successful this year. The ONLY reason he had success in Miami is because of that Wild Cat offense, where most of his yards came from, and in my opinion, still under threw guys, and had a puss arm. Just my opinion. I am happy for Chad, I always like him, as a team player and a leader, but not as our QB. There is no way that Pennington would have been able to make the completions that Favre made this year. Yes, he would have undoubtedly thrown less interceptions, but with our lack of speed in the WR’s, Favre was our guy.

  77. avatar DerekS says:

I say Yay only because he is their best option to win right now. I dont think Clemens or Ratliff is the answer next year.

  78. avatar SackDance99 says:

Yay. I heard Chris Baker last night on Sirius saying that the team knew Favre was injured “for awhile,” praised his toughness because of the seriousness of the injury, wants him back, thought he’d be better with a full off-season and training camp to learn the playbook and understand the tendencies of his receivers better. He never blamed Favre for the INTs and, in fact, was awestruck by how Favre continued to play despite a significant injury. We know Baker is not a company man, so I think his appraisal merits consideration.

  79. avatar Andrew says:

NAY. build a team that competes every year. not just for one year at a time. NAY

  80. avatar Robert Smithline says:

no no no no no! please no!

  81. avatar tommyfromsi says:

    heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll nay

  82. avatar Mack Stone says:

Yay! With the right coach he’ll be fine. Bring in Shanny!

  83. avatar NY Titan says:

Nay. Let him go and let’s stop postponing our future plans.

  84. avatar kj says:

i’d say no but what choice we got now that we forced penny out ..clemens ..come on thats laughable ..if theres a QB we can draft i’d say bye bye farve if not we’re stuck with him or nothing ..but there are always FA options

    david carr

    kerry collins

    matt cassell

    among a few

  85. avatar Die Hard Jets Fan in VA says:

Yes, because he still has the potential to take the Jets further than any other option they have. It is all about winning now. Is it realistic to think that Clemens, Ratliff or Ainge can go further than Favre in 09? I don’t think so.

  86. avatar David says:

YAY! (But I’m a Patriots fan!)

  87. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

Nay, I’d rather find out that we need to draft a new QB (After watching Ratliff and Clemens fail) than let this idiot break down by week 8. Oh and save 13 million

  88. avatar steviek says:

    Nay. Nay. Nay.
Can I vote two or three more times?

  89. avatar LAJetsFan says:

YAY…if he truly wants to return and put in the effort in the preseason. In that case, let him finish his contract and let’s devote a high draft pick this year to one of the college QB studs (Stafford or Bradford, or even Tebow if he comes out). That way we’re not scrambling for some loser in free agency to come here, get our hopes up, and then we’re stuck forcing in a rookie who isn’t ready for Kellen Clemens. I’d rather have our depth chart look like Favre-Clemens-Bradford-Ratliff than Clemens-Bradford-Ratliff-Carr or something equivalent.

And can everyone please stop whining about Mangini? We’re not going to miss him, this isn’t family business here, it’s football. He deserved to get fired, let’s move on and hope the new coach can do better.

  90. avatar Brandon "You're With Me"riweather says:

Everyone who voted Yay on this post should be forced to go back and watch each of favre’s 22 interceptions – and all of the near interceptions on terrible decisions – and then be given a chance to change their vote.

thankfully there’s only a few of you.

  91. avatar Dan says:

Nay. Hey, why don’t I just go and eat some hay. I can lay by the bay, make things out of clay, I just may, what’d ya say?

  92. avatar John Bleeds Green says:

    Nay,
    Please Brett, Hang’em up

  93. avatar Chris From CT says:

Nay… not at all start over

  94. avatar James in TN says:

    Yay,
    because a)mangini is gone

    if b)we get better WR’s

and c) If we get a OC with a clue he will dominate

    Nay,
if we don’t upgrade WR’s and get a OC who is more run oriented.

Also nay on Cowher, and Yay on Shanahan or Spag

    Nay on Schottenheimer

Yay on Eric Mangini going to Cleveland, and I hope he gets the HC job there so we have one less AFC team to worry about.

  95. avatar Derrick says:

I dont want him back, chad might not have that strong of a arm but he wont throw 22 picks, i miss chad

  96. avatar sunreader says:

Nay – clearly the dummest move by a NFL Team since the raiders cut Moss. This guys done. Chad and new O line plus Jones and washington was the way to go. we’d be watching the bye week waiting to see who we play next week…

  97. avatar AABrooklyn says:

No thanks let Favre retire or waste another team’s season. Bottom line is I don’t think he has enough left to win a championship so what’s the point? There is a good team in place now, with the right coaching and the right new starting QB then this will be a better team than with Favre.

  98. avatar sky says:

    NAY! 30329430483294839483982389 times over

  99. avatar Atownkevink says:

I’ve had enough of quarterbacks of the past. We seem to go back and forth between qb’s that are 21 and 40. Somewhere between Kellen Clemens and Brett Farve is a 28 year old with experience and time to build with the club. Don’t go back to too young either, we don’t need Browning Nagle again….

  100. avatar JetsCHUD says:

Nay, we need to bring up a QB for this new coach that fits his scheme, not a coach that fits Farve’s scheme. We just need a good QB, not a great QB (which Farve is neither) I mean he didn’t even have a single game in which he threw for over 300 yards! However being a realist, if he doesn’t retire we’ll be seeing him in Jets Green and White next year, I just accept that as fact.

  101. avatar cbiscuit says:

    Hell Nay

  102. avatar David says:

If Favre doesn’t come back to the Jets, he’s done for good. No team is going to want to touch him now – the old magic is gone. His style of QB just doesn’t work any more. Game managers are back in – Cassel and Pennington prove that. The best he could get is a backup role, and he’s not going to accept that. His legacy would have been better served staying at Green Bay and passing the torch to Aaron Rodgers. Instead, he came to a city where he had to compete for air time with multiple teams, across multiple sports, and where the media is ravenous for red meat. Big mistake on his part, he’ll now be added to that slide show of aging QB’s who tried a second act and failed.

  103. avatar Dirty Sanchez says:

    Hell Nay

  104. avatar jet4lif says:

    NOOOOOOOOOO…..

  105. avatar EddieC says:

Nay sir. time to bring up a young QB..favre just makes such poor decisions, doesn’t seem to care about the Jets (only himself) – ie. his huddle speech…he’s just not the old brett favre

  106. avatar PatrickC says:

    Nay!

    Four Words:

    Touchdown! Ratliff to Clowney!

  107. avatar miketorse says:

    No, no, no

  108. avatar Lou says:

No, he sucks. might as well hire vinny testiverde off his couch to throw bonehead passes…jk

    no to farve!

  109. avatar mr.die-hard jets fan says:

i would say nay…but do any of us wonder how he would have done if he had an entire offseason to prepare with the team…or does that not matter?

  110. avatar Steve says:

    Nay.

    Just…. nay.

  111. avatar Drew says:

Nay……The cross field pic into double coverage against the Seahawks sold it. The screen pass INT was the icing on the cake.

  112. avatar kd bart says:

    380 187 49.2 3147 15 17 72.1 rating

This is Joe Namath’s stat line for the 1968 season. The type of line that would get him run out of town nowadays but the Jets won the Super Bowl, Just want to show that stats don’t mean much.

    I’m not voting either way

  113. avatar roof says:

    nay,

favres Jets jersey joins Namaths rams jersey, emmitts cardinals jersey, jerry rices broncos practice jersey, and so on.

  114. avatar Hailmatty says:

    NAY.

    NAY.

    NAY.

  115. avatar FavreSucks says:

    Nay!

  116. avatar RJ MAC says:

I honestly believe he would be better with a different coach, but the fact that he’s 40 years old….Nay.

  117. avatar Paggs says:

    Nay. Please please nay.

  118. avatar Drew says:

    Bent….

You have to remember there are a million GB fans that want to see this guy keep “slinging it” so even though 80% of the Jet fans on this site have no use for him there are 100% of Packer fans that think this clown is GOD!!

  119. avatar BK says:

    NOOOOOOOOOO

  120. avatar smark says:

    Hhhheeelllllllllll nnnnnaaaawwwww
What percentage of the time when favre threw downfield was it picked? 75%+?

  121. avatar gt73 says:

Are you MAD?! YES! He’s still one of the best damn quarterbacks in history. He should have been a JET from the beginning. If Dick Steinberg had made the right offer to Jerry Glanville, he would have been. Now, give the man a competent game plan, a coach with balls and please, a world class wide receiver!!

  122. avatar Bent says:

ALL – PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO TROLLS!!!

  123. avatar hank/naples says:

Hate to rub it in guys but……Pennin gotn won his second COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR AP Award. I guess his (well deserved) MVP is next.

  124. avatar Bent says:

Drew – if that’s what’s skewing the numbers then that’s why this is a good demonstration of what the fans think. Having said that, Woody should not be acting on what the fans think!

  125. avatar Ferraro41 says:

A conditional “yay”, mostly because I think Clemens sucks, and we have no idea what we have in Ratliff or Ainge.

  126. avatar I blame my father... says:

So it looks like the Yay’s have it!

The Jets way: Keep the guy who throws the awful picks. Fire the guy who grumbles into the headset, “Why would he throw that ball?”

It was Nay back in September; it’s still Nay now.

  127. avatar christos says:

nay to multiple interceptions that cost the Jets their season.

  128. avatar nep oznat says:

NO WAY! Over the hill, done, doesn’t want to play in the cold, doesn’t like to get hit anymore, lost arm strength, mistake prone, and OLD, not here for the long run

  129. avatar NJCoach8 says:

Yay, He is better than any other option available. Clemens has fumblitis and let Ratliff hold the clipboard one more year.

If they hire Shanahan let Ratliff learn while Favre runs the SF/GB west coast offense.

  130. avatar 57JETSBLITZ says:

Nay…Can I have more Ratty, kind sirs?! With a steady hand at the wheel (cough, Billick, cough). We will form an idenity on O..run first and kill with the short, sure stuff. At times I swear Farve was looking for angels to fly from the heavens and wisk those wayward passes into an open recievers hands. Can anyone tell me honestly how 1 offseason can fix some of the bulls**t passes he threw? He’s old and stuck in his ways, what you saw is what you’ll get. More Ratty for me kind sirs.

  131. avatar ganggreen4ever says:

    yay,
do I want Favre back, absolutley no way, but do I think he’ll be back. yea.

  132. avatar Igs says:

I want him back with a capable coach that knows how to handle the situation, a veteran winner.

    Yes I want him back!

  133. avatar BubbyBrister/shovelpass says:

YAY (conditionally)…so long as he is NOT on the cover of Madden

Can it be? Me and Pete57 have officially flip-flopped on our Favre views like two rudderless dingy’s named ‘Obama’ ? :-)

  134. avatar Joe Walton says:

    Nay

  135. avatar junior says:

    i will says yay

  136. avatar Ari says:

    NAY
Throws way to many pics. Plus he also ca’t hit his targets anymore(see Dolphins game first quarter).

  137. avatar Ari says:

    NAY,
He can’t hit his targets anymore.

  138. avatar King (4) Favre says:

    YAY!

You guys are forgetting, they did win 9 games this year with 22 INT’s by the QB.

Imagine what might happen with 5-10 less interceptions, a better D, and tall wide receivers and a healthy #4.

All the Naysayers better be ready for another 4 win season with Clemens!!!

  139. avatar FirstTimePoster says:

    No. I hate Favre. GTFO!

  140. avatar JDB says:

    i guess NAY wins

    COWHER POWER

  141. avatar Moyvore says:

    The Jets assumed Fauve’s GB contract: 2008: $12 million, 2009: $13 million, 2010: $14 million.

Only two teams in the NFL were interested in assuming this contract, the NY Jets and Tampa.

Quarterbacks are probably best measured by their decison making ability and accuracy (except perhaps Al Davis, who loves arm strength, John Gruden who loves to collect quarterbacks and Woody Johnson, who reckoned that Fauve’s buzz would spark PSL sales.

Based on Fauve’s 2008 record, do you think the Jets even get ANYONE to swollow $13 million in 2009 and $14 million in 2010?

    I don’t think so.

If Fauve sees the team really doesn’t want him back, will he retire again or insist on the money? (His record with GB points in a certain direction: play him, trade him, or pay him.)

I sure as hell know which way his commissioned agent feels about it.

The Jets are crowding out Washington as the new Drama Team…and its Woody Johnson’s fault.

With Fauve’s interception rate and $13 million hit to the payroll (as well as the disruption of the coaching change) It’s long odds that the Jets will even make 9-7 next year.

    Vote: NAY.

  142. avatar Bent says:

Moyvore: Favre can be cut, traded or retire with no cap ramifications for the Jets. None of the money due to him is guaranteed. Unlike the NBA, he can be released and there will be no cap hit, because the Packers already bore the full cap hit in relation to his signing bonus when they traded him to us.

So, he can’t demand the money and we are not bound to him in any way.

PS – I guarantee this is correct.

  143. avatar gsteigs says:

i dont care either way theres the good ,bad and the ugly w/ this one

  144. avatar drock201 says:

yay. get a reciver who can get open so he wouldnt force anything in double coverage

  145. avatar Ron Mexico says:

    Nay.

  146. avatar Stormfront13 says:

Yay, Let the man have a training camp and time to get use to the system and the people. At the same time find and draft the best damn QB in the draft and bring him in to learn from Favre.

  147. avatar Joe B. says:

Kerry Rhodes (who has his own explaining to do for this season) said it best. If Favre is going to be fully committed to the season, practice, ball protection, the whole nine, then he’s a viable option. If he’s going to half-ass it like he did this year, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Woody also needs to realize that you can’t hire a new coach and expect that guy to create an identity for his team with Favre still taking all of the media attention. The Jets were Favre’s team this season, not Mangini’s, and that’s one of the reasons Mangini failed. It can’t be Favre’s team next season too. If that’s going to be the case, they might as well have kept Mangini as a lame duck.

WOODY – YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. EITHER HAVE THE MEDIA MAGNET QUARTERBACK OR HAVE A HOT SHOT NEW COACH. Now that Mangini’s gone, his choice likely has to be the coach.

  148. avatar Brandon in Florida says:

    NAY!

  149. avatar ED says:

    Nay.

I was for bringning him here, and I still think it was the right move. It didn’t work, but we got ride of Chad, and now its time to move on.

  150. avatar david i says:

I didn’t want him to begin with, but now that we are stuck with him and if the FO and new coach thought process is that Clemens is not the guy, then we need to draft the next QB in round 1, then he needs to come back.

  151. avatar jetsfaninmiami says:

Yay- its a tough one but I think with a new head coach favre will come back with a good mind set. favre had a bad season the year before he went to the NFC championship with the packers i think he will come back and be back under 15 interseptions. Plus we dont have anyone better to replace him

  152. avatar Brandon says:

Yay. Favre was productive with the Packers in 07 because they pounded Grant into their opposition and passed only when it was necessary. If the Jets can get a coach that will stick by the running game, Favre’s arm won’t be worn out by the end of next season. Keep Favre, get a coach that will call runs until the opposition forces the pass, and pick up a deep threat receiver in the draft. If the Jets in 09 have Clemens or another unproven QB at the helm, the talent of players like Jenkins, Jones, Faneca, and Revis will go to waste on a team with no direction.

  153. avatar DaJets says:

Nay…But will not be pissed if he is back. I don’t have high expectations next year either way. I don’t think TJ will have another great season. I hope he does. But its just not our luck. And Leon was great this year as well.

  154. avatar sjd10304 says:

Yay. He deserves one more year. His poor performance this year will surely provide motivation for Brett to have a strong year and get back to being one of the top 10 qb’s in football. Also, he makes the Jets relevant. This site should thank #4 as he certainly plays a role in the sites growth (it certainly aint the jets on-field performance) At this point, Favre is like a dog in the Dow, and you don’t get anywhere selling low. All of you naysayers are looking in a rear view mirror. What’s done is done, we all agree this year #4 was terrible. However, past performance is no indication of future results, and Favre gives this team the best chance of winning next year period.

  155. avatar jerry says:

    NAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was a poll also on the page of that site It was 50% Favre to old and then two other choices which included Favre coming back. From what ive seen real Jets fans want Favre gone 80% while casual people on the street who dont know **** would want him back. I did a poll on Jets insider with over 200 votes and it was 80% nay!!!.

  156. avatar Buddha says:

Yay, but only if they upgrade at WR.

  157. avatar k-thomp says:

    Nay

The second QB could very well fall to the Jets at #17, and even if he doesnt they are within reasonable trading distance. Especially if Spagnuolo is the choice, having a young QB is the way this organization has to go.

  158. avatar George says:

I want him back ,because even if we draft a QB it will take time for him to develop and this is a win now team.I think Tebows the guy I would go with and maybe he would be ready from day 1 but I am not so sure.
    Yay

  159. avatar Joe B. says:

    Tim Tebow? Really?

  160. avatar Ralph Rotten says:

    Nay! Please God! No!

  161. avatar Najy says:

I find it ironic when someone brings up the “win now” argument…

Arent you always suppose to try to win game?

  162. avatar jas says:

    Yes

And w/o that idiot Shotty. I wish I could find it but Feldman posted and showed that Chad’s and Clemens stats were almost same under Shotty as Favre’s.

Shein says on TV that Shotty was influenced by Mangini who picked the plays and it wasn’t his fault. Can somebody get the truth so we can stop all this crap.

Get over all this-the team was just plain not good ALL year. They played 2 or 3 good games all year-AND as I posted before- so did KC, OAK,SEA, STL, SF and every crappy team including the JETS.

I really am going to throw up.

  163. avatar dcjetsfan says:

Nay – I don’t think an explaination is needed. If so, please see favre’s play week 13 – 17.

  164. avatar Jet_the_dog says:

No.. I love all the TDs… I HATE all the dumb across your body across the field throws into triple coverage.. I hate all the legit INTs… I was a supporter when they picked him up and all through the season until the final clock read 00:00.. After that moment i remembered where we were in week 12… at 8-3… how good it all felt… but nothing feels worse than the last month… So still my answer is NOOOOOOOOOOO…. please Woody if you have any brain inside that bald head of yours… Offer him the option to retire first and if he says no thank you the tell him he is being cut…

  165. avatar nyckage says:

    No
there is a huge difference b/w 40 and 39, but maybe he might do well next year who knows, but i say NO

  166. avatar Letty Packard says:

    Yay

  167. avatar Harvlis says:

    Nay.

Although, I believe Mangini and Schott were greatly responsible for Chad, last year, and Brett this year — I don’t think I can take another season, watching Brett throwing it up for grabs.

I know that bad formations and bad play-calling can get a QB killed. Our empty backfield formations were moronic. Regardless, when Brett threw that screen pass in the Dolphin game, that was intercepted, I couldn’t even see a green jersey. His intentional grounding, where he was in the pocket and threw a long pass to no one, was just brilliant.

I don’t think that the Jets have to give up all of their draft picks, to find a good QB. Ratliff, Clemens, and Ainge are all capable. All we need is a good coach.

    Let Brett go hunting.

  168. avatar upstate fan says:

    nay.

  169. avatar Farvra Beans says:

    Negatory. Bring back Richard Todd.

  170. avatar Murry Angelino says:

In 2009 the Jets will end up behind the Pats, Fish and Bills. They’re a cursed organization.

  171. avatar Ethan G says:

    Nay.

Why would I want the league leader in interceptions, who played awful down the stretch, who isolates himself from his teammates as the Quarterback of my team?

  172. avatar Viking says:

Some of you Jets fans need to get off the Favre bandwagon and start looking for a young quarterback who can lead the team into the future. The Jets hired him for PR and look how that went. Sure he was a great QB in his time, but even if he comes back it’s for one year max. He should have retired with his team in Green Bay. He told GB he was retiring in 04, they specifically drafted Rodgers to take his place, then all the waffling over the years while Aaron sat on the bench, then he retires in 08 causing GB to use two of their draft picks on quarterbacks. Don’t let him play with your team the way he did GB. They chose not to let a good QB get away because of Favre. Don’t make the mistake of losing a good QB you’ll have for years to come, like Matt Cassel because of nothing more than Favre mania. I would think there are a lot of older Jets fans out there who want to see a couple superbowls before they kick it in.

  173. avatar Greenseed says:

Nay. I would rather have a 2010 7th round pick.

We have a couple strong armed qbs on the team that can make poor decisions. No need to overpay for one. I’d rather have a younger qb that can actually scramble before throwing out picks.

  174. avatar EssentialEducator says:

    Nay

  175. avatar Viking says:

Wise choice! Remember, part of the reason McCarthy didn’t want him was because he was unwilling to participate in voluntary practices and spend his precious time watching game films.

  176. avatar john l says:

absolutely positively YES YES YES bring favre back and we will win the superbowl next year….he blew the playoffs because johnson wanted to get rid of mangini ( brett could not stand him either)

  177. avatar BigKatFan says:

    nay. for the following reasons

    1) new coach=new qb
    2) he’s 40
    3) he’s hurt
    4) other players dislike him
    5) There was only one instance of Favre magic all season.
6)the goose is outta golden eggs.
    7) KC is ready.
    8) Ratty is ready.
    9) he didn’t turn jets into winners, they turned him into a jet.
    10) i didnt want him in the first place
    11) Ainge is ready
    12) the wins over the bills were not his doing
    13) Brad Smith plays qb
    14) Stuckey can throw
    15) Leon can throw
    16) Scottenheimer tainted him
    17) Clowney’s activation did not help him
    18) his monday night game SUCKED
    19) he fumbles
    20) he’s slow(immobile)
    21) having Bubba Franks there did not raise his confidence

  178. avatar matt says:

    NAY

Trade, Sign, or Draft someone who can play for more then 2 years
I dont think Kellen is the option either tho

  179. avatar fonz says:

    Hahahahaha

    Why Sooooo Serious?!!!!

    FARVE LEAVE!!!

    FARVE SUCKS FARVE SUCKS!!!!!

    FARVE = LOSER!!!!

  180. avatar Bill says:

Nay, we need to give the young guys a shot…. they couldn’t have done worse than him over the last 5 weeks

  181. avatar Dean Barbella says:

    Nay.

  182. avatar pound4pound says:

I hate Favre, but I still say Yay. You don’t drop an NFL-average QB (had a 81 passer rating) after his first year in the system unless you’re sure you’ve got somebody younger who could do better. Clemens (or another youngster) might do better, but would you bet your team on it? I’d bring Favre back, and if his first few games are as bad as his last few this season, bench him for the young guy.

  183. avatar AbdulSalaam says:

    NAY

  184. avatar Famny says:

    Yay.

I was greatly disappointed by his play at the end of the year. But here is my dilemma – what is our next best realistic alternative? I do not see KC as our future. Free agents – Cassel? Not for me. Trade for D Anderson? Stop gap at best.

Favre buys one more year to find / groom next QB. Could be draftee or could be Ratliff/Ainge. Upside with Favre is much larger than any other alternative. If 07 Favre, clear home run. If 08 Favre, bench him halfway through and play backup.

  185. avatar JetOrange says:

Nay, I look at the success of Ryan,Cassel and Flacco, and I want 12 million in cap room

  186. avatar TruJetFan says:

    no sir

  187. avatar dan from western ny says:

NAY but thanks favre for trying your best … he will always be one of the best but its over go jets

  188. avatar Viking says:

In answer to “Favre hated Mangini”. Of course he did at the end. Mangini wanted to be the coach and Favre wanted to be the coach. Favre never could stand anyone telling him what to do.

  189. avatar Viking says:

Remember, Mangini named his new baby (middle name) Brett last October. He’s probably had it legally changed by now. lol

  190. avatar WI Jets fan says:

    Nay,

Give KC a shot. If we play defense against Washington and McDrops catches one he probably would have been 4-3 as a starter and people would have said not bad. They just see 2-5. Remember no OL no running game and no security blanket (Keller). Give KC a shot. I’m sure he can manage the offense with some players around him. It was not a dynamic Favre who won 5 in a row, it was a game manager.

  191. avatar next year again says:

    here’s why i’m undecided====

he had no time to work out or prepare for the season. his arm injury could’ve been avoided if he had better leg strength and form. by trying to just use a “strong arm” all season, you’re bound to have some wear and tear on it.

this being said, he could be too old to get back to his former shape, which means pennington would end up having a stronger arm

what i hate about this whole problem is that the jets pretty much just sined him for endorsements. So we end up being put in a situation like the end of that movie “The Replacements”. hopefully we can get a keanu reeves

  192. avatar Gang Green says:

The answer to this question is like a double edge sword…Keep FAVRE and you risk that chance of having more interceptions that touchdowns, loosing the faith of other players on the team(mostly the defense because they are left to clean up FAVRE’s mess),and also losing the control of a new coaching staff because of FAVRE feels the need to run his team..IF we CUT FAVRE we will see 8 to 9 man fronts pressuring a rookie quarter back, stuffing the run game,a new Quarter back will limit the offensive play calling until they determine his IN-GAME strengths and weakness….My OPPION is to keep FARVE until this new coaching staff establishes itself, run more than pass(70% run 30% pass)and let the coaching staff inform FAVRE you are only a few interceptions away from riding the bench from DAY 1…

  193. avatar WiscoDan says:

Absolutely. With a full camp, better coaching and gameplanning, he’ll be much more improved. History has shown that when he is coached well, he’s a great quarterback. Not good………great. Bring ‘em back for one more year. Though, it looks more and more like he won’t, what with teammates calling him out and what not. He won’t go where he’s not wanted.

  194. avatar Crystal Gunns says:

    Yay…

Keep Favre but draft a QB of future. Clemens is no good. He couldn’t beat out Chad Pennington and the Jets were looking for any excuse to run him out. Thoughts on Ratliff? I heard they like him.

  195. avatar Gang Green says:

AND another thing with our luck FARVE would end up in Bufallo throwing bombs ovetr the top of our suspect secondary….I can see it now FARVE going for over 4,000 yards 40 touchdown and the Bills going deep into the playoff…Screw that keep ‘em and hope the new coaching staff has the balls to stand up to him and tells him he is only one player of 22 on the field each week….

  196. avatar Robert06907 says:

I say get rid of this guy and let a youngster do this… I hope the new coach will tell him to hit the road. If it is spags then we can expect to have a run heavy offense from him seeing the Giants every day in practice. Plus this 12 mil would be spent on some good defensive players.

  197. avatar kevin1234512346 says:

    I say yay.

Our WRs suck. Get rid of lazy laverneous coles and get him some receivers who can actually get open

    Kellen Clemens is awful

I’d take favre over KC in a heartbeat

  198. avatar LukeV says:

no thank you… If any of our other QBs threw such crappy passes and held onto the ball for too long we would of crucified him and benches him immedietly!! True or false?

  199. avatar LukeV says:

    correction- benched

  200. avatar Mparty7441 says:

    Nay

  201. avatar JoeP says:

Nay a thousand times Nay. We do not need a washed up QB. The only reason he comes back is to sell PSL’s and jerseys for Woodpecker. Can the Jets after 40 years of frustration finally get it right. Let’s hire a top of the line coach (experienced), work to get a top flight QB in the draft and him, Rat and Clem fight it out.
Farve is a short term solution and his performance shows that he does not get you to the playoffs—he’s going to be a year older and injuries happen more and more as you age. Please do it right.

  202. avatar JoeP says:

You are on the money LukeV

  203. avatar ronnie says:

    yay

right now, favre is about the 15th best QB in the league. If he leaves, theres no doubt our next QB will be like 20-25th in the league.

  204. avatar Hangar says:

this looks like a clean knock-out!!!!!

  205. avatar Bill says:

Never wanted him. Don’t want him. I pray to God he retires.

He won’t. Kiss 2009 good bye.

  206. avatar Joe Abernethy says:

NAY!!! 88 TDs and 84 INTs over the last 4 seasons is less than impressive.

to steal a line from Herm…”Retire! Get out!”

  207. avatar Chris Cazz says:

Nay… Let brett the other jet get a chance… I liked his arm strength and his execution in the pre season let’s try to get ourselves a permanent franchise qb rather than trade them away for run down legends. I expect to see ratliff in action this upcoming preseason. No Cowher… Yea Shanahan

  208. avatar TheGreenCastle says:

    Nay… pick on a screen play? f’reals?

  209. avatar JA says:

yay if we can get him a WR to throw to…otherwise nay lets take a shot on ratliff or clemens

  210. avatar Gang Green says:

Nay, FARVE will under mind the new coaching staff because he wants to play his way(stick in the sand Football),doesn’t want to commit to studying, doesn’t like to be disciplined(FEELS HE TO GOOD FOR IT),IS HURT AND PROBABLY TO OLD TO HEAL LOL,and doesn’t not play team football(THE ME FIRST ATTITUDE)…FEW cons to FAVRE not playing is get ready to pick up off his back our rookie quarter back because our pass blocking is suspect, teams will BLITZ early and often on a rookie quarter back, get ready for the run to be stuffed with 8-9 man defensive fronts, and will the new quarter back all-be-it RATIFF,CLEMMONS,or AINGE be able to learn the new system to be productive this next season…

  211. avatar gsteigs says:

its funny allot of people say they never wanted him but those jerseys did sell didnt they

  212. avatar Jeremy says:

Yay, Although he is not the smartest qb and makes mistakes he still gives us the best shot we have right now to win…

  213. avatar GREENBLOOD says:

    NAY,

    Brett RATLIFF should start.

  214. avatar Jim G says:

No way…..40 year old QB cannot last for 16 games in the NFL especially since he is not willing to put forth the off season work required.

  215. avatar Drew says:

I’m not a math major but i think Nay will win out by a hair…..lol

Woody listened to the fans and fired Mangini (stupid) maybe he will listen to the fans from this site (not the GB/Jets fans) and tell Mr Wrangler to go home

Nay – BUT we have to draft a QB or sign or trade for one (possibly Derek Anderson) a because KC is terrible and will throw just as many picks if not more. And Ratliff, come on people this kid performed well in the 3rd and 4th quarter of preseason games against practice squad players. Ratliff is browning nagle all over again and KC is rick mirer.

originaly i said: “nay but i thank brett for what he did he put the jets on the map and made a lot of money off jerseys” now i say yay if the option is clemmens he freakin sucks. its a slight nay if ratlif is the option though.

BUT WHY NOT DRAFT A QB 1ST ROUND

  222. avatar Gang Green says:

Here’s another good questions: WHo’s to say that a rookie quarter back with a new system, new style of coaching, and starting in his first season won’t throw 20+ picks….and i agree that 13 million is a big number with other needs on this Jet team but really who we going to sign in the free agent market that will make us feel all safe and warm at night.Ran down the list myself today and notta one jumped off the page and said PICK ME I’M a proven leader and winner….In my oppion the best choice at a franchisable quarter back at this time is CASSEL…Tell me he is a product of a system and i’ll tell ya he can be a product of our system too.I cant stand people who say he is a product of the system WHAT ELSE IS HE SUPPOSED TO BE>>>>>AND i love the fact that people say he is a backup are YOU going to bench BRADY and start anyother quarterback PERIOD in the league….I think not….For a team that everyone and their mother single out games against them in the preseason CASSEL played with better poise than 98% of the veteran quarter backs in the league….AND to think his defense was the oldest in the league and didn’t save his ass at all this year SIGN him before another team realize he can be the next ELWAY,MONTANA,or BRADY….I absolutely despise bill-a-cheat and the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS but i’ll take a proven, field tested, winning quarterback from any team willing to part with em……

hell no favre sucked this year hes gotta go

  224. avatar Blair thomas says:

Pats are gonna Franchise Cassel and trade him outsidethe division. They’re not as stupid as Mike T was, no way would they let him just walk and sign with the Jets. I’d take a shot at Derek Anderson (3rd or 4th round pick) the guy had a bad year but he also had about 10 dropped balls per game.

  225. avatar Gang Green says:

The only problem with Anderson is ya just dont know what quarter back your going to get each week….When he’s on his looks awesome and when he’s off he an interception machine….I guess we could roll the dice if the price is right…..

    yay!!!

I can’t believe the amount of venomous hatred I’m seeing rite now! I’m seriously thankful, you’re all not running this organization! I know this season hurts even more because of where we were after week 12, but do you honestly think Favre will throw 22 picks next year? I certainly don’t! The heart of the problem this year was “PLAYCALLING”!!! Why the hell was Favre asked to throw the ball 40 friggin’ times against Miami? Why did’nt Leon Washington get more touches, “THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE YEAR”??? Now I’m not saying Brett was making great decisions, but if we ran the ball with #20 more, maybe some of those picks would be more scarce!!! Just a thought!!! Happy New Year Everyone!!! GO JETS!!!

  228. avatar John says:

Ratliff is the Jet QB of the future. Ratliff, Ratliff,Ratliff. Clemens sucks. He can leave with Favre. People talk about Clemens behind the new O line, what about Ratliff behind the new O line? That kid has fire and leadership. Clemens does not have these qualities.

  229. avatar mehl56 says:

    Nay.
Let Ratliff or Clemens fight it out. Favre was a liability in November and December. Ask BF to retire or cut him.
For all the win now talk, we’d like to be competitive the year after next, too. Our future starts now.

But how did Schott get an interview instead of a one way bus ticket, that’s what I want to know.

It is obvious that Brett’s better days are behind him. But as much as I see the complaining about 22 INT’s. Take a look at his 2005 season.

The reality: The Packers suffer their first losing season in the Favre Era.
The Cheesehead fantasy: The Packers went 4-12 because Favre had no talent around him.
The Cold, Hard Football Facts: Eight times in the 2005 season, Favre took the field in the fourth quarter with his team in position to tie or take the lead and a chance for him to play the role of hero. In all eight games, he threw crushing interceptions that killed any hopes for victory. Favre’s 29 picks that year are the most thrown by any quarterback in the past 20 years.

After beating the San Francisco 49ers in the 1997 NFC
Championship Game, Favre won just three of his last 10 playoff games. Eli Manning had more postseason wins in a 29-day span this past season than Favre had in his last decade with the Green Bay Packers.

Yes, Favre won a Super Bowl — 11 years ago!
But as his career arc spiraled downward, the blind adulation only got worse. Favre’s passer rating in his last 12 postseason games was a pedestrian 77.8. In his last five wild-card games, he went 2-3 with more interceptions (nine) than touchdown passes (seven). In his last three divisional playoff games, he went 1-2 with seven TDs and seven interceptions. That’s a 3-5 record with 14 touchdown passes and 16 picks.
In two of his last four postseason appearances, Favre threw two of the most unthinkable playoff interceptions in NFL history, both in overtime — to Brian Dawkins of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2003 and to Corey Webster of the New York Giants in January 2008. In fact, Favre is the only quarterback in NFL history to throw overtime interceptions in two playoff games. In his last nine playoff games, Favre threw 18 interceptions.
