Buzz: Could Bowlen Have Pocket Aces?

by Bassett on January 3rd, 2009 at 12:01 am

Keep an eye on the open GM post in Denver, it could be the difference for whether the Jets will get a shot at Giants DC Steve Spagnulo, reports old friend from Newsday Tom Rock:

Like the Browns, the Broncos also are in the market for a general manager. They could be interested in a package deal that includes Spagnuolo and Eagles GM Tom Heckert, according to a league source. The Browns reportedly have made Patriots vice president Scott Pioli their top candidate for general manager.

aces

Spagnuolo and Heckert spent six seasons together in Philadelphia. Heckert has been a candidate for general manager jobs the last few years and acts primarily as an adviser to Eagles coach Andy Reid, who has final say on personnel decisions.

Besides the lure of a package with Heckert, the Denver job could be the most intriguing for Spagnuolo because it comes with a young, established quarterback already in place in Jay Cutler … if Heckert is given the Broncos’ general manager job, his relationship with Spagnuolo could make further interviews unnecessary.

Pat Bowlen is one of the most savvy owners in the game. It’s total speculation on my part, but if he’s getting it out there that the interview with Spags is “informal,” I’ll take that as a sign that he’s trying to play it cool in his bid to snag Spags.

Jets Assistant GM Scott Cohen, worked for the Eagles and would know Spags, but it’s not the same power that Heckert could stand to get in Denver.

Veteran candidates (and by “candidates” I mean “people who refuse to even interview”) for the Jets job are already dropping like flies, and the one guy other than Cowher that the Jets have put a lot of emphasis on could be extremely tough to win over with Bowlen in the picture.

Can someone please tell me what exactly this “better fit” that was talked about on Monday exactly is?

Rex Ryan is the better fit. His 3-4 scheme can get more out of the Jets personnel on D and he’s on a team that’s winning with a rookie behind center. He won’t be afraid of going with KC or Ryan and he’s got the Jets SB connection through his dad. Also, his body is beginning to take on a strangely Parcellsian shape.

  2. avatar subwayfare says:

    Sorry. KC or *Ratliff*

  3. avatar Gang Green says:

All i know is that when Rex Ryan gets his interview the only question out of Woody’s and Mike T’s mouth should be how much…and then woody hand him the check…The media is making a mockery out of this JETS franchise and are options for the JETS getting a HC are slimming by the hour…I heard on the NYJETS site that WOODy and MIKE T are going to take their time and do a thorough search for the JETS next HC’ing job…HOW MUCH time will it take with everyone telling them thanks but no thanks…PULL the trigger WOODY while we still have the option to get RYAN in here….

  4. avatar subwayfare says:

I have a feeling Ryan’s stock will rise in the Jets FO after Sunday at 1pm.

  5. avatar Neil says:

Hutchinson says BC head coach Jeff Jagodzinski will get an interview. He was Green Bay’s OC in 2006.

  6. avatar clownpuncher says:

The “better fit” is whoever they can convince there won’t be any Favre drama.
Seems to me the “inside” reports all point to the “veteran” coaches not wanting to deal with his BS.

  7. avatar Fred App says:

Hmmm … you’d think that if the decision to fire Mangini was indeed the process of a lengthy “decision tree” that began weeks ago — as opposed to an impulsive decision made after the loss to Miami — that Woody and Mr. T might have given at least some thought about the new coach.

Makes me wonder whether this “decision tree” wasn’t more like a sapling.

  8. avatar Gang Green says:

SUbway they better sell this job to RYAN with all they got…sounds like SPAGS is going to get a good offer in Denver…AFTER Spags and RYAN who left worth hiring???Like i said previously NO VETERAN coaches would touch this JET team with all the bad PR going on around the franchise….

  9. avatar ED says:

    Eric:

If we all said sorry would you come back with Callahan as your OC?

  10. avatar subwayfare says:

    GG-

Agreed. The veteran HCs that might have mattered are out and now it’s going to take an assistant with some big rocks to jump into this canoe. I think Ryan’s the guy.

  11. avatar Gang Green says:

ED if RYAN and Spags go elsewhere they better have MANGINI’s number on SPEED DIAL….

  12. avatar Kyle says:

    Call me crazy…

I think it is fairly obvious nobody wants to coach the Jets. I don’t think there is an established coach out there that would want to work with Woody Johnson (the silent, but deadlier Jerry Jones).

Maybe we snag Rex Ryan, but we are starting again from ground zero. Ryan is going to have to learn how to be a head coach on the job, just like Mangini.

Pleas, everybody who is having a love affair with Brett Favre – Admit it was a mistake to fire Eric Mangini, and coach who was in his third year and who had built a solid foundation, and had a genuine vision and goal.

  13. avatar largebarge says:

It’s not a matter of a love affair!!! I’m being realistic!!! Question!!! Did the Jets score more points this year, than over a decade? Yes!!! I know Favre’s performance dropped of the last 5 weeks, but it’s not completely Favres fault!!! Why, (If he was struggling), did Schotty ask him too throw the ball 40 times against Miami? Why did’nt Leon Washington get more looks, ALL YEAR!!! Thats poor coaching rite there!!! Personally, I cant believe Woody would fire Mangini before having a strong replacement already lined up!!! That’s Unexceptable!!!

  14. avatar Gang Green says:

Large barge…SCORE all the points you want…What good is it if you turn the ball over and miss the playoffs..

  15. avatar Drew says:

Alright, since nobody wants the job,I’ll come back to do it.

    Signed,

    Rich Kotite

  16. avatar Gang Green says:

LMAO DREW he’s on MIKE T”S speed dial right after he calls MANGINI and he says,”THANKS BUT NO THANKs”

  17. avatar subwayfare says:

Just to stave a few of the flaming arrows in advance, I have to once again say that I’m not for bringing Favre back next year. However, the notion that his 22 interceptions are the sole reason for the team’s demise just doesn’t hold up. Namath threw 27 picks in ’66 and 28 in’ 67. Wonder if the guys in the locker room were grumbling about benching or cutting him.

  18. avatar subwayfare says:

Of course the next year he cut it down to 17 INTs against 15 TDs – numbers that most posters on this board would consider impossible to win with. But win they did. The rest is history.

  19. avatar Kyle says:

Dude, do you live under a rock?

This isn’t 1968 anymore. Football is a totally different game. Every QB sucked back then when you compare them to players now. Don’t believe me? Look it up, see for yourself.

In today’s NFL, you need a solid quarterback who doesn’t turn the ball over twice a game to win.

  20. avatar Gang Green says:

Subwaye, How many touchdown passes did Namath throw in the superbowl????let me help ya Absolutely none MATT Snell ran for 121 yard and a 4 yard touchdown and also caught 4 passes for 40 yard…In all reality who was the MVP in that SUPERBOWL???The Jets defense with 4 interceptions thats WHO….

  21. avatar Gang Green says:

Bring up some more JETS history I LIVE FOR IT….

  22. avatar largebarge says:

Listen, if we had a viable option at the QB spot, I would totally agree with you Gang Green!!! But, the truth is we don’t!!! Ratliff is a possibility, but not realistic!!! I know he looked good in pre-season, but there’s a tremendous difference between 3rd, and 4th stringers, and the Varsity squad!!! O.K, next there’s Clemens!!! He got an opportunity last year, and did’nt show us much!!! So where do we look too? Everybody’s screaming for Cassel, but he would be a complete bust, in my opinion!!! So Who Than?

  23. avatar subwayfare says:

    Gang Green-

You’ve made my point. INT’s aren’t the whole story. Better coaching and game planning could have gotten more wins in spite of Favre’s terrible play over the final 5 games. He also played very well through the big win streak midseason. If I believed there was a high probability of getting that level of play out of him over 16 games, I’d bring him back in a heartbeat. I think there may be a slim chance of that with the right HC but I wouldn’t risk a 13 million dollar cap hit to find out. It’s just a myopic interpretation of events to lay all the blame on Favre and his INTs for the Jets failings.

  24. avatar Gang Green says:

Large I stated my oppion and I will stick with it I”D rather take Cassell at 10 million a year with a long term contract to grow with this team than spent 13 million on FAVRE or put it the question marks we have with have with our back ups…IF we can take a risk with an aging FARVE why not with a QUARTER BACK who has proven throughout the length of a season that he isn’t a fly by night…WE know his backround coached by Billicek, tutored by BRADY,and going 11-5 with a defense that most players could be his father…TEAMS have gone on less that that and found great success LOOK at FLACCO and RYAN unproven until this year…THIS KID IS THE REAL DEAL ….WE NEED TO WAKE UP AND SIGN HIM BEFORE HE PUTS A FEW SUPERBOWL RINGS ON SOME OTHER TEAMS FINGERS

  25. avatar kc. says:

    two words……..STEVE SPAGNUOLO!

  26. avatar subwayfare says:

    Kyle-

    Eli Manning, 2007, 20 INTs.

  27. avatar Gang Green says:

I can go on with him all day he has great mobility, great vision and reads down his progressions, never gives up even when down large(ALMOST CAME BACK TO BEAT US),,,doesn’t turn the ball over,is coachable,is a team player, and u never heard him whining while riding the bench all these years….I MAY BE WRONG and i know you all will let me hear it about how he is a product of the system,he had great receivers,he inherited a superbowl calabre team…but u know what DAY in and DAY out he just won,,,and how many games did he throw 4 touchdowns in ???? quite a few…

  28. avatar Sammy G. says:

I can’t wait to see what loser coach the Jets end up with. Every potential coach that gets mentioned, ends up passing up on the Jets.

I can understand why, he doesn’t want to have to deal with a team of backstabbers and anonymous sources.

  29. avatar largebarge says:

“THE REAL DEAL”!!!! “MULTIPLE SUPER BOWL RINGS”!!!! Slow down Romeo!!! He’s got a great O-Line, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Tight Ends that catch the ball every once in a while, and like you so graciously noted he learned under Tom Brady!!! Also, could it be possible that his performance may have been so good because he knew the playbook front 2 back? Just remember this!!! Favre came too us 2 weeks before the season started, had no prior knowledge of our playbook, and was playing with complete strangers! Is it at all possible Favre could be better next year after a full season with this team? I say, ABSOLUTELY!!! Besides, according too you, and everyone else here, it can’t get any worse, right???

  30. avatar Gang Green says:

Large your vision in narrow just like alot of us JET fans are… OK we get one superbowl or deep into the playoffs next year with FAVRE WHERE THE HECK DO WE GO THEN…I’m looking at the big picture, the future of this franchise NOT THE HERE AT NOW…IF u want to talk about right this minute yes MAYBE AND ITS A BIG MAYBE that FAVRE heals over the offseason and is even willing to play for the JETS next year…LETS get our heads out of the here and now and build a franchise that can win well into the future….

  31. avatar largebarge says:

The fact of the matter is, “You make the bed you sleep in”, and the FO made this bed folks, and now we’re in for a long, hard, night!!! We all know how hard it can be, being a Jets fan, but we carry on, like a beaten down old mule!!! THAT’S THE WAY IT IS, & THATS THE WAY IT WILL ALWAYS BE!!! GO JETS!!!

  32. avatar Sammy G. says:

That’s the problem with the Jets, they’re always talking about “big picture” and the “future”.

But the main problem is that is the talk every year, and every year is another rebuilding year;….but we can never talk about now, its always about the future remember.

If we play our cards right we’re a lock in for the super bowl in 2034.

  33. avatar Sammy G. says:

Oh wait nevermind, in an unexpected move our amazing head coach and star QB will retire in 2033, leading to yet another dissapointing season.

    Time to rebuild again!!!

  34. avatar Gang Green says:

ANd also LARGE are you crapping on our own players U say NE had a great o-line DOES OURS SUCK??NO U say he had great receivers DO OUR RECEIVERS SUCK?I say maybe they do…U say NE has TE’s that catch the ball…CAN I REMIND U OF CHRIS BAKER and future pro bowler DUSTIN KELLER,,,YOU should think before u type because u just implied that he couldn’t be successful with the JETS cause we dont have the talent…I SAY WE DO have the talent and he can be successful here

  35. avatar Sammy G. says:

our O-line sucks, our D-Line sucks (entire D for that matter), our WR’s suck, and our TE are decent.

And the coaching was as pathetic as I’ve ever seen in the NFL on any NFL team.

  36. avatar largebarge says:

You calling me narrow minded is pretty funny, since you will, “ONLY”, settle with Favre being realesed!!! That’s pretty narrow minded don’t you think? I’m being, “REALISTIC”!!! There is a major difference!!!

  37. avatar Sammy G. says:

All of you don’t need to worry about Favre being released or what not. No chance in hell that Favre would come back after all the backstabbing that’s been going on. The Jets organization should be ashamed of itself. Bringing in one of the best QB’s in the history of the nfl, and to treat him like the biggest failure in nfl history. Just a very sad story.

No way Favre is coming back. If he still wants to play he’ll have to find another team to do it on. And the only team that even would make sense is the Bucs.

  38. avatar largebarge says:

Wow!!! I’m obviosly dealing with a simpleton!!! Here are the facts!!!

    1. Chris Baker Sucks!!! He Did’nt do Squat this year!!!

    2.Coles is, “NO” #1 RECEIVER!!!

3.Our O-Line is’nt as good on the field, as they are on paper!!!

    4.I BLEED GREEN!!!

O.K, #4 might not be a fact, but the other 3, “YOU BETCHA!!!

  39. avatar Gang Green says:

Sammy G we sold our souls for the here and now this offseason and were did it gets us 9-7 and out gulfing in JANUARY…nice to spend 140 million and get this type of production HOW BOUT WE SPEND 13 million this offseason on FAVRE FOR ANOTHER ONE YEAR GAMBLE at STARDOME…PUT THAT MONEY into several players on offense and defense and lets get closer to a long term superbowl contending team…

  40. avatar Sammy G. says:

like I said you don’t need to worry about the 13 million, it just got freed up.

  41. avatar Sammy G. says:

how much of that 13 million is going to the new “franchise” qb. 10 mill? Wow so that will leave you 3 mill to build a superbowl team

    Good plan.

  42. avatar Gang Green says:

ME simpleton LOL u are a funny guy…BAKER sucks YA that why we didnt cut his *SS this preseason even with the acquisition of keller, coles never said he was a number one receiver and have been preaching we need receivers over 6ft3 with speed and good hands, and the O-line isn’t that good TELL THAT TO THE NUMBER ONE AFC EAST RUNNING BACK THOMAS JONES…LARGE Do your homework and read all my post before u start writing checks your body cant cash…..

  43. avatar Sammy G. says:

Gang green, TJ is the number #1 running back because of the Favre affect. Yeah O-line improvements have a little bit to do with it, but defenses aren’t putting as many people in the box because of Favre’s arm. Notice how when Favre was struggling at the end of the season, Jones was worthless because they were stacking the box.

O-line sucks, how many sacks did other teams get on our QB this year?

  44. avatar Gang Green says:

I know Sammy lets spend 13 million on a player who doesn’t want to practice, doesn’t want to learn the playbook, doesn’t even know whether or not he wants to play next year,GIVEs GREAT pre game speaches to his team mates, seperates himself from the team in the locker room(I”M SPECIAL I GET MY OWN OFFICE)and talks to the media after every game about how old he is and makes excuses for his game play…FAVRE WAS GREAT NO ONE WILL EVER DENY THAT BUT AT THIS TIME HE ISN”T AS GREAT AS HIS CAP NUMBER….

  45. avatar Sammy G. says:

Gang, go tell Woody to release him or trade him to the Bucs and we’ll see if he’s worth his cap number.

  46. avatar largebarge says:

Guy I’m 6’7″, and about 325 lb.!!! I’m pretty sure I can cash any checks neccesary!!! You’re just another long distance tough guy, all bark, & no bite!!! Wait a minute!!! You say Baker is Good because we gave him more$$$! What the hell is that all about???

  47. avatar largebarge says:

Just how many of your post need I read before I can Dub thee “Simpleton”???

  48. avatar Gang Green says:

Will do give me his number i’ll put it on speed dial till he answers…IF u think i will ever put one player’s value of the whole team YOUR SPEAKING TO THE WRONG JETS FAN…YOU two are turning this on me like I’m a FAVRE hater NOT THE CASE I”m a JET FAN AND NOT A FAVRE GROUPIE…

  49. avatar largebarge says:

Gang Green You’re like so many of my fellow Jets fans!!! You only key on the negative!!! How about the positives? Or do you honestly believe Favre does’nt bring anything positive too the table? All that nonsense you’re saying about not practicing, and not wanting too learn the playbook is assinine!!! SERIOSLY!!!

  50. avatar Gang Green says:

JUst the one’s that PROVE i have more jets knowledge that you O GREAT LARGE ONE

  51. avatar Gang Green says:

OK they i guess you are the simpleton cause he said it himself in interviews live on TV did u not pay the cable bill those weeks…HE stated I HATE STUDYING IT NOT MY STRONG POINT AND I DONT WANT AN OFFENSE WITH 1,000 play JUST RUN 15 to 20 that work and U CAN QOUTE ME ON THAT ONE…..

  52. avatar largebarge says:

Bro, I’m not trying too make you into anything!!! I know you’re a die hard Jets fan!!! ITS 3:15 am, AND YOU’RE TALKING JETS FOOTBALL!!! It does’nt get much more diehard then that!!! I just disagrre with you completely on the Favre situation, THATS ALL!!!

  53. avatar largebarge says:

Maybe sometime we can play Jets Trivia Pusuit, and you could teach me a thing or 2, about a thing or 2!!! Until then, we’ll just have too know I’m smarter!!! lol!!!

  54. avatar Sammy G. says:

He joined the team 5 months ago, and you expect him to run an offense with 1000 plays?

  55. avatar Gang Green says:

AND large the things that FAVRE was supposed to bring to the table he didn’t bring to the table or we would be in the PLAYOFFS right now…IN everyone’s eyes even the front office, owner, and coaching staff he was the last piece to the puzzle to bring this team deep into the playoffs and/or a superbowl ring…AND if the excuse was FAVRE getting into camp late WHY DID THE JETS OWNER AND COACHES HAVE THE FAITH THAT HE COULD STILL BRING US TO THE POST SEASON….

  56. avatar Gang Green says:

LARGE your a good guy and i know u support this team with all your heart too I agree that we agree to disagree and everyone has there own oppions on how the pieces should fit into the puzzle….GReat debating with ya YOUR RIGHT WHY AM I ON Here at 3:30 am LOL good night fellow JETS FANS CAN WE ALL JUST GET ALONG LMAO good night large and sammy happy new year too ya both…..

  57. avatar largebarge says:

It’s times like “This”, that I’m ashamed too be a Jets fan!!! They all cheered, like never before, when we traded for him, and now they want his blood!!! Exactally right Sammy G, Nobody knows how hard it is too learn an N.F.L. playbook on the fly, with a team of complete strangers, and in this town no less!!! He was behind the 8 Ball, before he even started!!! Now, he’s in an absolute, “NO WIN SITUATION”!!! If he retires and walks away from this team, he’ll be dubbed a “Quitter”!!! If he decides too comeback, he’ll have too deal with all these nutjobs!!! Ubsurd, is’nt It???

  58. avatar largebarge says:

Until tommorow!!! Good night, Everyone!!! Sweet Dreams, and may all your hope’s for a new Jets HC come true!!!

  59. avatar Gang Green says:

Large, I think fans as a whole whether or not they are JETS FANS,PACKERS FANS,or just football fans in general would give FAVRE his due respects if he walked away on his terms….I may not have agreed with the spending to production ratio FAVRE has had with the JETS but in my eyes he will always be one of the greatest quarterback to walk on the football field….I’m glad FAVRE came to the JETS there is no doubt about that but in the end we didn’t get the end results we all hoped for…

  60. avatar largebarge says:

I can respect you’re posture on the situation, but you know as well as I do, that if Favre retires, and “WHOEVER”, the QB is next year does poorly!!! The venom will start flowing like a raging river!!! I can see it already!!! Thats it, I’m going too sleep!!! GOODNIGHT!!!

  61. avatar dcjetsfan says:

Dont see Cassel as an option if he Pats tag him. The Pat are clearly not going to just let him walk, and they are unlikely to entertain trading him to the Jets. Even if that was possible, we just gave a 3rd round for one year of Favre’s service….not sure we as fans (or the FO for that matter) want to part with mutiple high picks for Cassel – plus a huge payday/big cap #.

More than half the playoff teams this year drafted their QB’s in the first round – Ravens/Flacco, Steelers/Roty, Chargers/Rivers, Colts/Peyton, Eagles/McNabb, Falcons/Ryan, Giants/Eli…. would it be out of the question for the Jets to target one of the top qb’s with their 16th or 17th pick? It is possible that either Bradford or Stafford could slide out of the top 10 and into the high teens (ala Brady Quinn). Sanchez might be an options as well, might be able to move back to get him?

If Ratliff is the real deal then great but if he isn’t, you have someone sitting for a year learning and then taking the field in 2010. Plus taking a QB with our #17 pick is going to be must more cap friendly (flacco 2008 salary was 1.3 mil/ryan’s salary nearly 7 million).

I just don’t see Favre coming back after all this upheaval (his poor play, coaching staff change, player critism) – which I think is for the best for Favre, but more importantly the Jets.

  62. avatar Drew says:

Just a quick thought….Everyone wants Spags because of his aggressive D but it dosent mean that will translate when he becomes a HC. Take Herm and Mangini their MO was aggressive D….did we have a great D under either guy? Then you have guys like Marvin Lewis and B Billick? Lewis’s D in Cinn ios awful and Billick’s offense was disgusting. Take a look around the league…when these guys become HC’s there talents are spread thin throughout the team. Just becuase these guys ran great systems as OC/DC dosent mean it will always work. We tried Herm and Mangini…..We need a proven guy!!

  63. avatar Drew says:

Look around the league….in the past the older veteren OC/DC paid his dues and then got his shot. He took a bunch of coaches to his new team and didnt need to do everything himself because he had trusted guys to teach his craft. Now the young guy usually takes the job and hires new coaches or keeps the current coaches that dont know his “specail skills”. Again while I dont hate either guy (Spags or Rex) I just think we need to get away from the college guy or young OC/DC.

  64. avatar Jdogsofla says:

    This just on ESPN-

Chris Mortensen reports that “The Jets should be interviewing Steve Spagnuolo as we speak.” and “Brett Favre will not be a factor whatsoever as far as bringing a new head coach on.”

Please don’t rip me on him. I take what he says with a grain of salt as we all should. I was just adding some info here.

I bleed green as well. I have the old logo as a tattoo on my right shoulder for almost 20 years now. I will not remove it. Ever. It make for interesting conversation at the games in Joe Robbie. Hehehe…

  65. avatar Craig says:

This is a mess…..Only the Jets would fire their H.C. with no replacement in the bag. If I got rid of a clerk in my office I would have a better plan in place to replace him. Call me crazy, but I smell Tuna…
An unproven coach is unacceptable to the fan base. The organization said they wanted someone to basically put them over the top. Tuna loves the $$$ and would have no problem whoring himself out for 2 years for millions.

  66. avatar Joe S. says:

If the Jets go the Defensive coordinator route I DON”T want Spagnuolo! To me Spagnuolo is NO different than Mangini.

I would rather have Rex Ryan if the go Defensive coordinator for HC!

Rex Ryan has been a sucessful coordinator much longer and has had a consistant strong defense for many years. Spagnuolo has a 2 or 3 year resume of success. Plus if you get Rex Ryan you will also get his brother as Defensive coordinator which is who Mangini has been trying to get here to run our defense for the last two seasons.

Plus I don’t want anyone from the Giants…. PERIOD!

    Joe

  67. avatar subwayfare says:

Rex Ryan is a better fit with the Jets personnel. I just hope Woody is in front of a TV tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. to see what Rex Ryan’s D can do against the division’s up and coming threat.

  68. avatar Hangar says:

    Craig
You are correct…it is a mess. Tuna is not coming here. If he did it would be what he had already…full control..
Again, We have a good foundation…get rid of Farve, we have 3 QB’s give them a shot to win it and lets see where it goes.

I’d love to hear what EM & Schott have to say about his mess…what is the true story?

  69. avatar Gang Green says:

SCOTTY your blog link was awesome although I little disrespectful to FAVRE…GREAT PHOTOS and effort on your part….and although I think we have alot more than just WASHINGTON(7 probowlers) there are a few dead beats that aren’t earning their salaries on this team,,,AGAIN great job with the PICTURE SHOW….

  70. avatar Reprocity says:

I’m just going to throw this out there… My next HC… Mike Westhoff! Always prepaired… Always fired up… BIG BALLS!!!!!

  71. avatar Gang Green says:

WOW i come on here and stand corrected NEW ENGLAND FRANCHISED CASSEL last night seen it on the NFL NETWORK..TO all that disagreed with me on his value and abilities NOW NEW ENGLAND’s going to pay 12 mill to keep their back up with the future HOF BRADY returning to the team next year…MUST be more people than me think he is a great talent cause they just dont give out a franchise tags to any ole back-up in the league…

  72. avatar jas says:

This whole discussion ignores the fact that the team played poorly all year under this staff.
I don’t think you can blame the players (favre included) for struggling playing cautious and tight every game.
The schemes were amateurish-period. We were out coached EVERY week.
Our receivers NEVER got separation. Do they stink? Miami had Ginn and Camarillo for God’s sake and they got open against the same teams we played. The defense STUNK. The schemes STUNK.
Did you guys actually watch the games.
Every press conf Mangini said we played poorly because of the other team defensive schemes. What the hell is that-they get paid too!!!!

And now———These idiots are “strongly considering” Shotty as the new coach.
That’s what you guys should think about-I’m sick over this.
We need a real coach and a real staff. Remeber how bad Cottrell was here—–and then EVERYWHERE else. We need proven winners not clueless amateurs like Mangini, Shotty, and Sutton.

  73. avatar swizzle81 says:

Attention Jets front office, watch the Ravens game this Sunday and see Chad get dismantled. If the NY Media starts telling you guys what to do, then its time to take a step back and take a deeper look at the candidates. The suggestions they usually have turn into disappointments, see Brett Favre. The best HC candidate that is left and should have been considered #1 from day 1 is Rex Ryan. He is clearly the best fit for the team right now and the future. Imagine that, AFC east teams that are actually scared of a Jets defense. Besides Spags will end up wherever his buddy from the Eagles ends up, plus he runs a 4-3, not worth it. Rex Ryan please.

  74. avatar Andre says:

Spags and Heckert is a dam good combo and they would turn that d around in denver rigth away. I cant believe we fired our coach without som1 in place. this is almost funny how bad woody and T look right now. I was a huge mangini supporter but hes gone and i gotta learn to put the team first(wish favre learned that after 40 years, not yet) so im hoping for spags or ryan. Thers also alot of buzz about aboutt he linebacker coach from pitt.

No one’s feeling Westhoff as the next HC?

Jas, Cortrell went to Minnasota which had the #1 rushing D for a coupple of years then he went to San Dieago which aslo became a very good Defence.

I want Rex Ryan for HC of the Jets!

But make no mistake… Chad and the Dolphins will win on Sunday!

Chad has that special magic which he will work perfection on Sunday. When healthy with the Jets behind a decent offensive line he displayed that magic for many years with the Jets. It seems many Jet fans were oblivious to that Magic!

Remember one thing…. the Ravens have a rookie QB in Falco. The feel good stories for rookie QB’s always end in the playoffs! This is a FACT in the NFL! Miami’s defense will end Falco’s feel good story on Sunday!

Look what they did last week to Favre as a recent example!

    Bowlen ain’t all that.

Let’s see him do something post-Elway; Shanahan was the stability in the franchise.
