Here's a new name for the list: Russ Grimm. Remember him? I originally thought he should have gotten the Steelers opening after Cowher left. (Not that Tomlin has done a bad job at all.) He could be an interesting candidate to watch.

Cimini says the Jets will interview him in the coming days. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/01/another-interview-in-the-cards.html

Personally, I'm only an armchair GM, so I can't say that for sure I know who the best person is for the job. But now that we let Mangini go, I would like to see one of these three get the job: Spags, Rex Ryan, or maybe Russ Grimm.

Bassett, is there any truth to the rumor I am just now starting that now that Mangini has been fired, Leberfield believes he should act like a reporter, giving up his anger at the Jets?

Above, Mad Dog Mo and I both acknowledged a true and good article by Lebs. On the same day, I read another solid bit of reporting by Lebs, "Daily News continues to make Jets look bad" (http://nyj.scout.com/2/826993.html). Myers and Cimini may actually have to think about what tripe they put out if they may actually be held accountable. That would be a good thing.

The Jets will get whichever coach is left standing when the music stops playing. This is the least attractive of all the franchises to work for, with the possible exception of crazy Al Davis' Raiders. Prospective coaches are running for the hills from a sometimes meddlesome, sometime negligent owner and Mike T., his yes-man.

Bent-

Thanks for the reminder. Perhaps they'll both get all the way to the SB and either Spags' or Ryan's D will decide the game.

Kewpie to Mad Dog Mo who beat me to the punch. I think I would have written the identical post and for me it would not have been rare, it would have been a first.

"My fear is that the Jets will panic over the Cowher rejection and accompanying bad press and offer the job to Spags without doing due diligence on Rex Ryan."

They aren't allowed to offer Spags the job while the Giants are still in the playoffs.

My fear is that the Jets will panic over the Cowher rejection and accompanying bad press and offer the job to Spags without doing due diligence on Rex Ryan.

The Giants defensive dominance over the Pats last year had at least as much to do with the Giants' exceptional drafting as Spags.

I hope Spags is wary of the Jets QB situation and pines for Cutler. Ryan's team is winning with a rookie at QB. I doubt he'll feel as worried about starting KC or Ratliff.
