Buzz: Is Brian Schottenheimer the Favorite? Seriously?
Here’s a quick update on the latest about the coaching process from Dave Hutchinson of the Star-Ledger.
It’s early in what the Jets have promised will be a long and thorough search for a new head coach, but offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has emerged as the early frontrunner, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.
They spoke on the condition of anonymity because they’re not authorized to speak for the Jets.
Schottenheimer, in his third season with the Jets, interviewed on Friday and his session with general manager Mike Tannenbaum was described as “impressive” by one person. Tannenbaum liked Schottenheimer entering the process but he realizes Schottenheimer could be a tough sell to an angry fan base.
Schottenheimer, who came close to getting the Dolphins head job two seasons ago but pulled himself out of contention, is a young, high-energy guy. The Jets scored 405 points this season, the third-most in franchise history. He’s known as a bright, offensive mind and some believe he was hamstrung a bit this season by the presence of Brett Favre, who threw 22 itouchdowns but also had a league-high 22 interceptions.
As for Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagsnuolo [sic], word is he did a solid job but he wasn’t as prepared as one would think — and for good reason.
First, the Giants are getting ready for a playoff game. Secondly, he has interviwed with four teams this week, including the Browns, Lions and Broncos in addition to the Jets.
Now … before we all get too riled up about this, keep in mind that there are a lot of people who will be in and out of jobs based on who gets the head coaching job, and internal sources will be benefitted if Schott gets it by painting him in a better light and reminding everyone of B-Schott’s interview in Miami a few years ago. The likely truth of B-Schott’s interview in Miami was that he was a conduit while the real hire and his old boss, Cam Cameron, was still in the playoffs with the Chargers. It benefits those internal sources painting Spags in a bad light by saying that he’s unprepared.
Bottom line, I’m not taking this report too seriously.
Thanks to Tom D. for sending this one in …

if woody thought this fanbase was tough before this, just imagine what it will be if baby schotty is hired as the new HC.
Hilarious……Just F-ing hilarious
He’s the front runner among three who have interviewed and one, Callahan, has no shot. Way more interviews to come. This means nothing.
Rex Ryan for the next Jet HC!
Leaking that Schott’s the front runner could be a preemptive PR strike in the event they get rejected by Spags or others. It could well be that Spags was unprepared – if that’s factual – because he really didn’t want the gig.
Because it’s hard for outsiders to assess how much of the O’s problems were Favre and how much was Schott, he likely won’t be pursued this year and is a relatively safe fallback for the FO while they wait for other candidates’ seasons to end. I don’t see how they don’t give Rex Ryan a hard look after what his D did to a division rival today.
not just how they looked today, but for the past couple years…nuff said…hire rex ryan, audtion the two young qb’s and lets move on to next season….its not that hard
Spags will FLOP as a HC!
He won’t reject the Jets because he will not get an offer to reject!
Rex Ryan for the next Jet HC!
steve spagnuolo.
REX RYAN is a VERY intriguing choice. AND…..WHAT if he brings in his BROTHER rob ryan to be DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR!?
If this is true, it may be a “wait and see” for one year, so that they can really go after solid coaches Cowher, Dungy, Shanny, and Holmgren next year. Whatever the case, it is OBVIOUS that the FO had NO PLAN or strategy in place with Mangini’s dismissal. Ridiculous! I’m really starting to resent this team and its owner…
Rex Ryan and Rob Ryan would be a package.
Rob is now free from that Raider Heww Hole… his contract is up.
Mangini was trying to hire Rob since he got here. But Rob was under contract.
Cower is out! If he wants to coach in the NY market… He knows that he would need to take the Jet job now.
Cower doen’t want the pressure of coaching in this market!
Forget about him!
all I have to say is, WHATEVER!!!
shanahan please
I wouldn’t mind a Brian Schottenheimer hiring for several reasons, not the least of which is that it would be proof that the organization picked a guy they thought was best for the job rather than reaching for a name that will please the fan base and get the PSLs selling again. Schottenheimer has shown some inconsistencies as a playcaller-I don’t think he has perfected the art of building variations off staple plays yet- but he’s a smart guy who has shown himself to be willing to try different offensive approaches. He’s also been the guy who has been developing Ratliff and Clemens, and presumably both players would benefit by retaining consistency in the offensive playbook.
4 interceptions and 1 and done in the playoffs that’s why we had to let him go.
B-Shott you have gotta be kidding me. This is like im having a horrible Jets Dream that hasnt stopped for the past week.
Does Woody somehow make more money if we loose, cause he doing a damn good job of it.
From superbowl Favorites to Schotty HC fav, I must be dreaming?
Schott had a good interview big deal, why get worked up about it.
It is more likely Schott returns as OC if the Jets hire a defensive guy with no head coaching experience or Marty ended up with the job.
This would not be the worst thing that could happen as long a Favre is not back.
Having some continuity with the offense would be helpful unless you want to completely rebuild.
Why is it that I can never watch an Eagle game without losing interest in it?
there is only one way to get to Woody .if BSchott is the new Coach NO PSL! but i was thinking if hes the HC does it mean he wont be the OC and someone else will be making the calls?
seanmac31, forget it the guy stinks!
I wonder what the buzz will be on this blog after Chad’s horrific playoff performance. The reasons why many of us favored Favre over Chad were because of games like this. Chad’s lack of mobility and suspect arm strength forced him to press and make terrible decisions…each INT was either a poor pass or poor decision, no passes that should’ve been caught. And, Ed Reed just read his eyes and jumped his routes…maybe he should’ve looked off some receivers, esp. his TEs. His INTs were all just as poorly considered as any Favre threw. And, the killer failed end around to Ginn was also his fault because he botched the handoff. Also, let’s not forget his final 4th down pass. Yes, it was completed but well short of the first down marker…a Chad special. I guess if I were adopting the logic of the Favre haters, I’d say that Chad was selfish, he didn’t want to risk a 5th INT, so he gave up and completed a pass to help his QB rating. Oh, and I hope everyone noted that because the Ravens were unafraid of his downfield passing, they stacked the line and run blitzed with impunity. I wonder if Thomas Jones thought Chad should’ve been benched, I mean 4 INTs in the most important game of the season is pretty pathetic. Just an unbelievably gruesome performance.
But, it did convince me that Rex Ryan should be the new HC of the NYJ. His defenses, including having just 2 down linemen in certain formations, confused the smartest QB in the NFL and made him look worse than either rookie QB in the playoffs.
Rex Ryan or Russ Grimm for HC
After seeing what the Ravens defense did to Pennington, (4 INTs, who’d a thunk it?) I say it’s all aboard the Rex Ryan bandwagon! His defense sure looked awfully good.
Whatever we do, let’s not hire Schotty Jr. as HC. Please! That would be like replacing Herm Edwards with Paul Hackett. Come on, the guy can’t make any halftime adjustments, had erratic gameplans, (was cute when he shouldn’t have been and conservative when he should have been creative,) and, worst of all, he didn’t know how to utilize his RB warhorses effectively, especially in not getting Leon Washington enough touches.
Maybe the only thing worse would be to hire that unqualified coach over in BC simply because he worked with Favre in the past.
Are we really so desperate to keep Favre? Why? Did he really have such a wonderful year? And even if he does come back, how many more years do you think he would (or would be able to) play? Yet, they possibly want to hire a HC, (who will presumably stay for at least 3 years or more,) simply to appease and attract Favre to stay for maybe one more year and throw a lot more interceptions? Lunacy. Sheer lunacy.
Note to Woody and Tannenbaum: What sells PSLs is a WINNING team, not a losing team with a past-his-prime, interception-throwing prima donna QB, (but who still deserves to be in the HOF some day.) And if they really think that building a team around an aging and selfish veteran like Favre is the best way to build a winner, then we might as well have Matt Millen as our GM and Rich Kotite as our HC. We’d have as much luck fielding a winning team next year.
What about Bill Parcells?????? I heard he had an option to opt out of his deal with the Dolphins because of the change in ownership. I also saw he would be interested in coaching again. Why not bring this guy in???? Look what he did with a untalented Miami team.
SackDance99
Bingo, Boingo, Bango!!! You’ve taken the words rite out of my mouth, THANK YOU!!! I think I’m definately leaning towards Rex, but would still like too see a Proven HC take the reigns!!!! But from what I can see, the Jets FO does’nt know how too lure a “Cowher” like guy here!!!
largebarge, thanks. To be fair, Woody has taken the position that he wants to keep Tanny and an HC should not also be the GM. I agree with him. Allegedly, that spooked Cowher, but I think that Cowher just didn’t want the media spotlight. He’s coveted the Carolina job for awhile (he built a palatial estate there) and maybe he’s hoping for Fox to get fired. Or, maybe he doesn’t want the Cleveland job, but would take the Cincy job, which should also be available next year or he’ll want to take over the Indy job after Dungy allegedly retires. But, it’s clear he wanted no part of the Jets job. And, if he doesn’t want to be here, frack him!!!
Seanmac, I agree with you that we need Tannenbaum to insist on the right guy for the job and not succumb to the pressure even Lebs feels compelled to discuss.
OTOH, Shott had his chance to strut his stuff and muffed it. No one can blame Mangini for Leon not getting his touches, too many deep throws with Clowney not active or on the field, no rhyme or reason to play calling, a team geared to running passing the ball too often, etc. As Parcells showed us, you coach the guys you have. We had Favre not Penny but Shott never seemed able to cope with this.
The Rex Ryan bandwagon sounds better to me than the Shanhan, Shottenheimer or Cowher fiascos. But as long as Sutton and Shott are not brought back, I will give the next HC some rope.
I would also hope Tannenbaum would not rule out a brilliant college mind like an Urban Meyer. He might even be able to win at this level with a Tim Tebow. And, even in defeat, Mike Leach’s offense put up a ton of yards and points.

Seanmac I’m on your side. I’d rather Spags or Ryan after today’s game but Schotty wouldn’t be horrible. I’d rather have him than his father who would lose in the first round of the playoffs every year. We don’t know how much of the playcalling was Favre/Mangini and he likely had to scrap his whole plan after Favre came in which may have hurt his creativity.
SD99-
I commented in an earlier thread about the 2 down lineman with Lewis rushing right in front of one of them, nearly getting a sack and busting up the play. Exactly the kind of innovation missing on the Jets D.
farve has one stat he dosnt want to break and that is his starting streak . hes not coming back because he knows he might not stay healthy enough to start every wk. so like i said the jets are acually sitting better today than yesterday no pennington no farve no mangini
Sackdance
I dont like Chad, but IMO Favre is nothing but a Chad with a strong-arm past. And you can see that the defenses in the last 5-6 weeks stopped respecting his long-ball passes.
In chads case defending safteties used to stack up the LOS but in Bretts case they would jump the routes to intercept.
As far as Schott is concerned, I dont understand why he made Favre throw with 3rd and short with empty backfiled. So many drives were stalled due to Favre’s mistimed throws when we had TJ and LW in our arsenal.
Both Schott and Sutton shouldve been fired, but instead Mr T gets rid of Mangini and is thinking of promoting Schott. What horrible 2 weeks.
I guess a lot of fans dont mind waiting for two more yrs of rebuilding. I like continuity inspits of some losing seasons.
{We had Favre not Penny but Shott never seemed able to cope with this. }
You mean Favre could NOT learn Shott’s offense! They certainly did NOT use Shott’s offense this season.
They ran Favre’s offense! Simple and Predictable!
seanmac’s comment makes a bunch of sense. His failure (if you want to call it that) as a playcaller is no more a guarantee of failure as a headcoach than the successes of mangini herm spags or whoever at a similar level are guarantees of head coaching success.
Sack’s post makes sense too.. I can’t believe we’re back at sackdance99 wants Ryan again! Perhaps we should start calling him Rexy ice.
I don’t mind Schotty as the coach and often good offensive minds end up having great defensive instincts, like Billick or Gruden, but I’d much prefer Rex Ryan and under the Rooney Rule, Ron Rivera will allegedly be interviewed. He’s really turned the Chargers’ defense around after our old friend Ted Cottrell was fired. I was very impressed by the Chargers defense against Indy.
i think its ryans job for the takens if he want it he gets it. u guys underestimate tannebaum.
Schott???
I’d sooner bring back Joe Walton.
jet4lif, Favre’s routes were rarely jumped, most of his INTs came from putting the ball up deep to see if the WR could come down with it, tipped balls or balls going through WR hands or plain brain farts. But, jumped routes? When?
Look, I’ve said ever since this “Chad would’ve done better” stuff started to come out. Chad can be defensed easier than Favre can and the running game gets collateral damage with Chad in there. QB is not a “plug and play” position and, as the 2 Ravens games showed, plugging in Chad for Favre might not have resulted in a 9-7 record…it could’ve been a 6-10 debacle. Favre and Chad both have shortcomings, but this season, Favre’s may have been caused by injuries. Chad has no excuses for his awful performance, which cost the Fins any chance of winning.
{mehl56, on January 4th, 2009 at 7:01 pm Said:
Schott???

Brian Billick is Joe Walton II.
I don’t like to celebrate anyone’s bad times but Chad’s game today was just another example of how he hurt the Jets and is more responsible for Mangini losing his job than Favre is.
He plays just well enough to make you start him at the expense of developing other prospects, but his ceiling prevents him from getting you anywhere in the playoffs. Added to that is a great attitude and fan and media friendliness that creates a rabid fan base – as we’ve seen on these boards – that make it impossible to evaluate him effectively.
What does Miami do now? How could they not start him after the year he had? Yet, that means Henne gets no game time till, when Penington inevitably gets hurt again, he’ll be thrown in, midseason, and suffer for it. That’s why I was glad to see him go, whether or not Favre was the answer.
I agree with Joe S. that I don’t want Schott. If Favre was a problem, he did zero to fix it. Besides we all questioned Schott’s play calling during the season. A HC hs to be a leader and I see zippo leadership qualities in Schott.
I see where the old Chad showed up today or was it that he was playing against a good Defense. Rex Ryan has been D cooedinator for 6 years and their defense has been highly rated all 6 years. If I can’t get a good experienced coach, I would take a good experienced co-ordinator like Rex Ryan. Maybe his Dad will help out.
Favre was not the answer! To Toss Chad out for a washed up QB this season was a big mistake and proved to be a mistake.
If you had a young QB that could win the Job from Chad than so be it.
Maybe Ratliff would have beat him out this past pre-season. Clements could not!
How ridiculous is it for the Browns to be high on Mangini and the Jets to be seriously considering Schottenheimer. Two coaches who did a horrible, underachieving job. It reminds me of when we signed Rich Kotite, after he had a disaster in Philly. You would think that the management of a pro team would have a clue.
JesusRevis, I’m not interested in bringing Parcells back. IMO, he’s great at rebuilding broken teams and then skipping town. I personally don’t feel that the Jets need rebuilding. I feel there is a tremedous amount of talent on this team, that if lead properly can achieve a very high level of success. There’s a few pieces to the puzzle that the Jets are in need of, but Parcells is a complete overhaul type and I think that would be a mistake.
Mangini, who was at best ambivalent about Chad when he got the job, should have played his handpicked successor, KC, or found someone else. Chad’s usual up and down play over those two years, and the failure of Mangini to replace him, is what set the table for the Favre trade.
Jesus/TimNC
Reports on CBS are that Parcells is staying in Miami
I think Mangini will do well in Cleveland. I guarantee you he will steer clear of the erratic Derek Anderson and lay all his chips on the young prospect this time around.
Joe S
You said earlier that Ratliff is the next Tom Brady, now you say he might have been able too win the starting qb position??? So which 1 is it??? Your bafoonery baffles the mind!!!!
We’re not getting a big coach. Shanahan’s defense is garbage althugh I would love to see what he would do with TJ and Washington. How much would we all like to see Ryan bring that defensive performance to Miami & New England next year!! If we’re going coordinator, we need Ryan.
Tim NC
You are correct. This team has a good foundation. 3 young qbs…give them a shot.
Tuna will not stay long, let’s get someone who will be around for a while…if the FO, leaves them alone.
I believe Mangini and Schott would have worked out if it were not for Farve… as for Sutton… kiss him good bye.. not doing so mid year was EM’s downfall.
Joe S xoxoxoxo ChadMagic!!!!
largebarge this is what I said:
Hey NE did not know what thay had in Tom Brady… a 6th round draft pick!
How do you know what Ratliff is unless you give him a chance to win the Job.
He impressed me with his accuracy in Pre-Season!
Favre is Done… Put a fork in him!
__________________________________________________
He might have beaten of Chad at some point.
This is how you should get the starting QB job… By beating out everyone else.
Mangini was young enough to stay around awhile… and he would have too.
so Peyton Manning should have too win his job every year???? YOU ARE A BAFFOON!!!!
btw – anyone still pining for penny?
4 int’s today…..
all the pennington lovers here….tell me the last elite defense old noodle arm beat? ever?
mangini will prove to be a mistake, we jumped ship way too early. its a shame his loyalty was his ultimate downfall.
schotty should have bought high and headed to miami, if he ends up being our new HC its only to buy time till we get Cowher in 2010.
we should have held on to mangini till then….
Please stop yourself Joe S!!! The more you speak, the more I’m convinced that you should buy a bullet, and rent a gun!!!
largebarge,
I have been going to Jet games since 1978 and in 121 since 1980.
Are you the guy that hanges over into the two seats immediately to your left and right?
I would hate to pay a PSL and have to sit next to you!
All
Chad is Chad and we got another look at it today. Love the guy but no D will run away from him.
Bookie..Mangini will some day be good…learn from his mistakes… like we all do. Time to move on and lets hope Mr T knows what he is doing. I have no clear favorite for HC. If we can not get Cowher, that we need to go with an assistant… Ryan looks the part to me.
Spags while may be the one, he has NY hype.
I think you’re mistaking me with the guy from sec. 118, he’s truly Ginormous!!! No, I’m 6′7″, around 310-320, and I’d just love too sit next too you!!! You’d be my lil’ bitch in no time!!! My lil’ Baffoon!!!
Schottenheimer??????
Oh wow. Even if this was leaked as a curve ball, it is mind boggling that they would even consider Schottenheimer as HC.
Peyton Manning = Great QB
Brett Favre = The Remnants of a Great QB
thats the difference largebarge
and “buy a bullet rent a gun” was on Vegas Vacation that was on TV today…. not clever
Subway, I had been thinking about the Miami QB situation as well. Basically, by Chad playing well this season, now Miami has inherited our QB problem! You hit the nail on the head. I was thinking about how this affects Henne as well. On another note,I think Clemens gets his shot next year. As always, I could be wrong, but we’ll see.
What’s attractive about Sexy Rexy is that not only does he have the pieces — Lewis, Suggs, Reed, etc. — but he gets everything you’d expect out of them. As much as I liked Mangini as coach, I can’t say the same was true about him this year (especially vs. ‘06).
Put me in the NO BSchott, Shanahan or Billick camp. I’m open to others.
I did’nt know it was on today, Sorry Guys, just love that quote!!!
I’m still pullin for the Ryan Ryan combo.
Rex as HC and Rob as DC!
we would be a Defensive Super Power! we could even keep the worst OC of all time in Schotty. Maybe it was Mangini holding him back? 2006 was a creative season on the “O” side.
only if i were tannenbaum
Not surprised Spags was so-called unprepared, he probably doesnt want the job, which will be a blessing if the Jets do the right thing and hire Ryan as HC.
Pete57, I totally agree about KC next year. He had a chance last year, but no protection at all, so I think he deserves another before the decision is made that he can’t cut it as a starter. I’d like to see Favre gone, KC starting, Ratliff at #3 and an experienced veteran/journeyman type at #2 to push KC a little.
I am with R in CT, No to any Schotty, Billick, Shanny, or any college coach.
Chrebookie
Did Favre appear washed up last year when he lead his team too the nfc championship game? I would lean towards no!!! Also, and be honest answering this one, did he look washed up at 8-3, this year??? I did’nt think so, in fact I, like everyone else thought we were in for a special kinda year!!!
not likin shannahan or billick either, and i have no reason to believe in Schoty as a HC.
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-4-704/Days-later–Mangini-looks-better-than-Jets.html
What an utter embarassment to this failing organization.
barge
chad could have gotten us to 8-3 also. we played weak teams and barely squeaked by. only game IMO the Favre made the difference in the win was agains NE in OT. chad wouls have never had us moving down the field like that.
favre looked washed up all season, and he did last year also. he had much better receivers in that season too. not to mention a team the BELIEVED in him. that he definetly did not have in NY. ask the giants how they felt bout favre last year…..
get over it. he was a bust. once again you are comparing favre to manning, great QB’s in different points in their career
I think the Giants felt pretty bad about Favre in the first meeting when they lost 35-13.
I would say that last season was probably Favre’s swan song, though. He played well in spurts this year, more than just in NE in my opinion, but looked awful down the stretch. Too many factors would have to be lined up perfectly for him to be successful here next year and it’s not worth the 13 million cap hit to gamble.
Bring on the Ryan brothers!!!
Chreebookie
If you seriously think Favre was washed up last year, and at 8-3 this year, I dont know what you would consider a successful qb!!! WOWWIE WOW WOW!!!! Just know that I don’t consider myself a Favre lover!!! I just think he’s better then chad!!! You say we had a weak schedule??? What would you call Miami’s??? Favre was’nt the only problem this year!!!! OUR DEFENSE WAS INVISIBLE THE LAST 5-6 GAMES!!! Thats the truth of it all!!!! Favre definately did’nt help the last 5 games either, but I would, “personally”, rather see Favre take risks down field into int’s, then see chad throw 2 yards short on 3rd & 5, over, & over, & over again!!! But thats me!!! I’m silly like that!!!!
barge
Farev shot his load last year. He played us for his ego..nothing more nothing less. He did not want to come here in the first place and I felt we should have let him walk to another team . PLS was the one and only reason he was brought in. The bit failed…if they made the play-off FO felt more would have been happy to spend their money… sorry FO, it backfired, EM was the fall guy…(he did not help himself with some of his moves)..
Agin, this team will be OK..
barge feel free to debate the favre issue all you want.
No one is listening.
and yes this team will be “OK” as they have always been, just “OK.” nothing more, but many times much less.
ESPN is reporting that if the BC guy interviews with the Jets he will be fired! And he still wants to do the interview…
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3810186
i have 1 question why dont any1 go after jimmy johnson d cord for the eagles. his def is always great
Schottenheimer????? I would rather the jets coaching staff be this:
Head Coach: Sal Alosi
Offensive Coordinator: Noel Mazzone
Defensive Coordinator: Dan Quinn
RYAN Squared!
Like I said, I really dont care about Favre!!! That said, he was a better option then Chad!!! Thats all!!! But I dont know why I’m even debating Favre, he wont be back next year anyway!!! So,now we have no choice!!! You’re all gonna get your precious qb competition, you so much covent!!! Brett jr., and Clemens can fight it out. too see who’s the best…….Grrrreat!!!!
jimmy johnson eagles d cord
bottom line is that the ny media is full of morons….
with that said hire rex ryan
where are all the chad worshipers today?? 4 ints ??
maybe now we can put to rest all the what if chad talk….
but not the “what if Clemens or Ratliff” thats now wide open!
The record of Baltimore defensive coordinators isn’t particularly impressive after they move on to other head coaching jobs. While Marvin Lewis, Mike Nolan and Jack Del Rio have had a certain amount of success, not one of them has come close to replicating the Ravens defense in their new digs. Methinks that Ozzie Newsome has more to do with why the Ravens are successful than any coordinator.
Which is not to poo-poo Rex Ryan, but today does nothing for him as a candidate one way or the other.
here, here Ed L. good ridence chad!!!
When we get a new coaching staff who’s to even say the clemens, ratiff,or ainge will even be on the roster after training camp and fit their new scheme…and also these qb’s aren’t even hand choosen by the new staff so their will be no loyalty FACTOR involved..FOR all we now they may go to the draft or back into free agency to get THEIR GUY as quarterback…AND MIKE I POSTED THE SAME IDEA EARLIER>>>IF THERE IS A WAY TO GET JIM JOHNSON AT THE END OF THE SEASON>>>THEY SHOULD NOT HESITATE TO WRITE THE CHECK AND SIGN HIM AFTER THE INTERVIEW….
gang green . why doesnt any1 approach jimmmy johnson? Thats the question?? I’m confused on that. I never hear his name anywhere.
jimmy johnson??? ke’s a good race car driver, but a HC, I’m just not sold!!! lol!!!
Ryan get the job but we have to wait until at least the 19th!!!!
barge..while we/I do not covent the qb show down what else do we have? The Rat may not be as bad as you may think….
PS…did you buy your seats for 09?
COuld be the loyalty for ANDY REID,EAGLES are still in the playoff without the bye week, and his contract maybe he is hooked to a multi year deak still…DONT KNOW THE ANSWER BUT I HOPE THE JETS ARE FIRST IN LINE TO START QUESTIONING HIM…JOHNSON IS A FOOTBALL MASTERMIND HIS DEFENSE IS AMAZING TO WATCH HE CHANGES HIS SCHEMES EVERY GAME<BLITZES SOME FROM EVERYWHERE<AND HE GETS THE MOST OUT OF THEM EVERY GAME,,,HE HAD ME AT “HELLO….” LMAO….
large barge who are you sold on. Johnson been there with the eagles for like 10 yrs and his def is always dominate. Now look at rex ryan there def was already dominate when he took over……Im not knocking rex but i perfer johnson he stopped a peterson besides 1 long run today.
ESPN is now reporting that if the BC coach Jeff Jagodzinski does the interview for the Jets, he will be fired from his post at BC. Hopefully the Jets will now back away and cancel the interview.
“Which is not to poo-poo Rex Ryan, but today does nothing for him as a candidate one way or the other.”
Not sure I’d agree. If watching his former QB beat his new one pushed Woody over the edge to fire Mangini, seeing a potential new coach dismantle the QB his former coach couldn’t, could have some impact.
Whether it should is a different question. Ozzie Newsome has a well earned reputation as a brilliant talent collector, but Ryan has at least not misused that talent often over his tenure
Hangar
I’m being sarcastic about Ratliff!! I truly hope he is the next Brett Favre, Oh wait, that would be horrible, rite??? lol!!! But seriously I hope he can play as well, in a regular season game, as he did in preseason this past summer!!! And as far as I know, Yes!!! The fam is going in on the 09′ season!!! But, too be honest, why? I dont know!!!
swizzle81…good, if he is coming so Farve comes back..than stay in BC.
barge…
got ya…I’d love to see us some how trade up for a QB but not sure how that can be done. One day things will work our way. I just hope I live long enough.
swizzle,JEFF JAGODZINSKI stated to the press he would interview anyways MUST BE NO LOVE LOST THERE in BC…AND what do the JETS care if he gets fired if they really want him why would they care if BC fires him…my oppion is we dont need a HC that doesnt have atleast some type of nfl experience…RYAN,GRIMM or JOHNSON top three on my list if no other HIGHLY EXPERIENCED VETERAN HC IS AVAILIBLE….DIDN”T MENTION SPAGS GREAT DC BUT DONT THINK HE’s KEEN TO JUMP FROM BLUE TO GREEN NEXT SEASON….
Hangar.
Seriously!!! I’m 32 years old, and after the “Seattle Debacle” I’m convinced of 1 thing!!! THE JETS WILL SUCK FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!! I made that point on both Benigno’s, and Francessa”s radio programs!!! But, I still bleed green like the rest of you!!! GO JETS…….ALWAYS!!!!!
SHOOT someone get Jim Johnson’s number for me..WHile WOODY can care less and is on vacation I’ll do his F’n job for him…..
Oh yeah, and for my Draft wishlist, Michael Crabtree is at the top!!! Hands down a #1 WR in our lcurrent lineup!!!
ganggreen i was just posting on espn i heard johnson has huge ego thats why no1 wants him. his exact words from a philly fan .Jim Johnson is untouchable. Andy Reid has made it all but impossible to get at Johnson. He pays him far more than other coordinators in the league. jimmy” needs a special huge room to hold his enormous ego … most teams cant afford to build it
LARGE I”M BACK..lol let start our usual nightly debates LOOK UP DRE KIRKPATRICK…this kids looks even better than CRABTREE and I love crabtree as i have posted it in the past…KIRKPATRICK plays corner, safety, and wide receiver…3 positions for the price of one….HONESTLY do a quick google search on him I bet he will impress ya….
Barge..I got you by some years!!!
Live in Texas, Jets season ticket holder since 1976..sold out in 95 because of my job. Go to at least 1 road game per year…tough wearing green away..not may do so.
As for Crabtree…seen him play a number of times…big 12 down here. Would love to have him on our side. Tough kid.
All great points gangreen, but we don’t need another brad smith, multifacided, athlete!!!! We need a legitimate, Big #1 WR, that can make any catch neccesary!!! Kirkpatrick is really, really good, but I want Crabtree, sorry!!!!
LOL MIKE I KNOW THIS POST WILL P’ OFF SOME PEOPLE BUT IF WE FIT FAVRE’s BIG HEAD IN HERE AND FAVRE HAD HIS OWN OFFICE…WE KNOW WE HAVE THE OFFICE SPACE CAUSE FAVRE AIN’T COME’N BACK LMAO
lol very tru
You’re certainly rite about him not coming back!!! No doubt about it!!!
JUST THROW OUT THE B.FAVRE NAME PLATE ABOVE THE DOOR AND REPLACE IT WITH J.JOHNSON LOL only a $10 dollar fix…
LARGE i’m in a good mood tonight LOL stoke a fire and start a topic we can debate tonight….I’m bored with the same ole topics on here…
HOW bout the 1st round draft pick i hear people floating TEBOW’s name around I dont agree that he will be a good NFL QB as to much of his success came out of the option ANYONE biting on this comment???
Too be honest Gangreen, I’m drained!!! I’ve got little left!!! Some guy named Joe S, did too me today, what you did too me last night!!!! I’m pooped!!! But I’m sure someone, “maybe you”, will say something that will spur me on!!! LETS FIND OUT, SHALL WE???
I could’nt agree more on Tebow!!! Great human being, but does’nt fit the bill for qb!!! Maybe a fullback, or tight end!!!
LARGE SAmmy G and JOE S can get anyone going on here lol they have that fine knack as to jump on everyone’s last nerve ending lmao
Question? If Favre retires, and I think he already has, do we take a chance on Kerry Collins? Whats the consensus?
LARGE put on a pot of coffee ITS STILL EARLY….lol
I don’t know green!!! I doubt I’ll be ranting till 3:15 am again tonight!!! But then again, I have no life, so, who knows!!
LARGE CLEMENS is like the player that has all the intagibles but never really play up to par on the field…You want to try and back him give him the shot but its like RUSSIAN ROULET every time you see him on the field you just dont know what your going to get when ya pull the trigger….
Reports circulting…. Rex Ryan would love to have the Jets job!
To do for the Jets what his dad was sucessful in doing. A SuperBowl win for the Jets.
It’s great to be wanted a coach for a change.
Give him the job!
Oh no!!! Joe S is back!!! And gangreen, I said Kerry Collins, not Kellen Clemens!!!
OH sorry large KERRY Collins I thought u ment CLEMENS…KERRY is another quarter back who has floated around the league and found a home in TENESEE…Kerry has played some good games but TENESEE really rely on a heavy run game, defense, and pass when needed…the one good thing though is that KERRY did look good this year when is passing situations…and if tenessee goes to the superbowl HE will command a big money contract..ME personally i dont see TENESSEE getting by BALTIMORE this year…AND ME personally I think there are better options out there …JUST my oppion…
JOE S> any links to these so call reports that RYAN wants the job???FInally maybe some good news tonight after all….
I completly agree gangreen, Collins is good behind a run 1st offense, but is’nt that what the Jets “should” be??? I feel like that was a major contributor to our demise this year!!! We did’nt run nearly enough!!! And some potential big news on sny just now, the Pats will franchise Cassel this year!!! He will make between 12-16 million dollars this year!!! So much for all those Cassel lovers!!!
LARGE the problem with KERRY is that will we get the run support and have the defense to keep us in games so that KERRY can be successful..GOT to remember how many times did tenesee play from behind this year and if i am correct i think games they were behind in the fourth quarter they lost…MAY BE WRONG THOUGH…I dont see KERRY being as successful in new york becasue as we all have seen we play alot of games being behind the 8 ball….I haven’t witnessed any miracle comebacks from KERRY that would be worth the money he will be asking…just speculation though….
If any one cares, I’m moving over too the new story, chadenfreude on the home page!!! See ya’ there!!!
LARGE NFL NETWORK broke that late last night…and me being the cassel groupie that i am WAS PISSED …Bill B. isnt positive that BRADY will be ready for the opening of the season so he TAGGED his @ass NOW if any team wants to sell there soul to the devil(BILLICEK) to get CASSEL its the only way he can leave town..IS CASSEL worth the money I have speculated yes to this question but do i want the JETS to pay that kinda money and then the rest of the team suffer HELL NO…in my oppion as i have posted on here i would pay cassel 13million and sign him to a long term deal before i would bring BRETT back..AT least that way the jets have a long term quarter back to build around if they felt he is worth the risk/reward….
Oh well I thought I was a newsbreaker!!! Poo-Poo on my big newsflash!!!
lmao,i hope they give the job to shotty,so he can further destroy this team, and maybe just maybe he can get tannenbaum fired next year, and hopefully johnson can sell the team to someone who knows about football.
I just got home from watching the playoff games (by the way koolaid kids the Jets are not in even though the coaching staff had us locked in).
I haven’t had a chance to read all the posts.
This is most disgusting thing in the history of the Jets. Shotty?
OMG, OMG!!!!
I said week two this had a Kotite feel to it, and got slammed by posters.
Well——————————————————-Here we are.
Jets should consider hiring Mike Leach as O-Coordinator

and possibly rex ryan as head coach (go titans so he can interview with the jets after saturday). who is this bc guy? they’re not even the best team in their conference and they just lose to vandy. definitely mike leach though. he’s the man sen lnice.

I am in the Rex Ryan for hire club. He is “exactly” the right man for the job. He will bring in his brother Rob as the DC, and he hopefully can develope Gholston into the defensive stud that the Jets drafted him to be. Also draft WR Percy Harvin out of Florida with the 17th pick or fellow gator LB Brandon Spikes. Favre “will” retire. Use that money on a free agent WR. Preferrably Anquan Boldin, but bringing in a guy like T.J Houshmanzadeh also makes some sense.
This interviewing of Schott & Callahan is all about justifying them remaining in their current positions with the team, if that in fact happens. I think this is all a set-up for them bringing in Rex Ryan and keeping continuity on Offense.
The only way they are going to find out if Clemens is a winner is to maintain continuity on Offense.
I think Spags gets to write his own ticket anywhere he goes and won’t be able to resist the power of choosing his own staff.
Something tells me it’s going to be Ryan.
Maybe he’ll hire his brother as DC.
I will quit on this team if lil Schotty is hired as the head coach…
I thought he was terrible as an O coordinator. Why would they even consider him for head coach?
