Rich Cimini writes in the Daily News that the interview with Spags went well yesterday, but that they could be in for a tough sell with the Broncos in the picture as well. Two new names have entered the mix for head coach.
Cards assistant head coach Russ Grimm and Boston College head coach Jeff Jagodzinski, according to multiple league sources. Both are likely to be interviewed in the coming days. The Cards are still alive in the playoffs, but league rules allow assistants from wild-card winners to interview for head-coaching jobs before the divisional round.
Grimm is an interesting choice for the Jets. Grimm, you might remember was one of the Redskins “Hogs” from the 80s/90s teams and won three rings with the team. Grimm most notably coached in Pittsburgh for Bill Cowher and won his fourth ring while there. Grimm would be an interesting candidate, but doesn’t address the team’s defensive flameout.
Jeff Jagodzinski (or “Coach Jags” as he’s called here in Boston) has a history with Brett Favre as his OC from 1999-2003 and was instrumental in developing Matt Ryan into the top five pick that he became. BC football has been revived under Coach Jags leadership, but he’s extremely familiar with the pro game from his time in Green Bay and Atlanta

Not in love with either guy….Russ Grimm couldnt get the Pitt job after being there for years and after seeing the horrible job Whisenhunt has done I want no part of that coaching tree.
A college guy? Havent we seen this before. I would prefer him over Grimm but is he a candidate because he has a relationship with Favre? He is not even a top college coach.

That analyst was Peter King, professional Favre worshipper and master of the “fluff piece” in football. I take what he says with a grain of salt. Having said that I hope he’s right.

grimm would give the team a distinct personality, something it lacked under mangini. and i don’t understand what drew means about seeing the job whisenhunt has done in arizona–seems to me they did just fine yesterday against the falcons. the only real problem with grimm is that callahan and schott have very different offensive philosophies from grimm, so they would both be out. but he would probably bring in a 3-4 defensive coordinator, so there would be some contiunuity on that side of the ball.

Ian?? If you watched the Jets/Arizona game this year you would know what I’m talking about. He made some awful decisions in that game…2 stick out….1) He had Warner throwing the ball down 28 from his own 20 with 19 secs remaning in the half? Which led to another TO and Jet FG….. 2) This idiot has Warner throwing the ball down 3 scores with 20 secs to go in the game and got his best WR knocked the hell out. This guy is not a good coach

Ian- this team had a distinct personality under Mangini–

Same old Fracking JETs can’t can’t win the big game and can’t hire the big name!!!!

Grimm could be a very good pick. The Arizona o-line has improved 1000% since he got there, and just demolished ATL’s defense yesterday. Grimm’s a tough guy who learned from Gibbs and Cowher (and both guys loved him). As Bassett mentioned, he’d need a better defensive coordinator than Sutton.

MAN i would love to see Grimm bring the offensive scheme here to NY.Getting 3 big, agressive 6ft plus recievers running around our field next year would be great,,,,and to DREW who is in the playoffs and going for a divisional championship next week…Again narrow minded thinking lets look at one game and not the body of work over the whole season…NICE one DREW….I dont see any coaches with a 16-0 record this year so your can never hire a coach that is perfect….

FYI: ESPN just reported that Boston College has threatened to fire Jeff Jagodzinski if he interviews with the Jets. Apparently, he will.

Grimm is intriguing because maybe that would give us an edge in signing Anquan Boldin since he is a free agent. And he has imagination when it comes to offense. Let’s not forget even they almost came back and pulled that game out against us and you have to blame Whisenhunt for going for it 20sec left in the half b4 u blame Grimm

I’m not to excited about either of these candidates. I would assume these 2 guys would be last resort kind of guys. I just hope that this guy jags doesn’t get the job just to entice favre to come back. On NBC last night some analyst said he spoke with favre for a half hour and its sounded favre was done. Favre supposedly told tanwoody that they may have to go in another direction at qb next year. everybody cross your fingers.
