Call me heartless, but watching the Dolphins season end via Chad Pennington’s implosion Sunday felt like a small bit of redemption to me.
Many of you on the blog have said it many times during the season and I think I agree. Pennington is a quality player, but when it comes down to it, he’s ultimately limiting, and as good as the rest of the team around him. There’s a lot of things that didn’t go right for the Dolphins, but a record 4 INTs sure didn’t help.
For as disheartening a month-plus has been for the Jets and us fans, you have to give the front office some credit for trying to make a bold stroke last summer and move in a different direction. It worked out poorly, granted, but it’s over and let’s move on. Let’s not make Chad Pennington into a martyr either, for the many Jets fans that had a hard time saying goodbye to Pennington even the most devoted had their share of doubts about the man. He’s a talented player, but he wasn’t the guy to lead this, or maybe any team, to Lombardiland.

Here, Here Bassett!!! Those who live in the yesterday, will never see the potential in tommorow!!! Chad, and likely Favre are in the past!!! If we ever want too be a legitimate franchise in this league, we have to look to the future!!! So long Chad!!!
-
Agree completely. I was (and am) a CP fan, but lets face it, he will never carry a team on his own. I do think however he would have done well with the Jets this year. Probable would not have beaten the titans, but would not have lost to S.F., Seatlle, Oakland etc. etc.
I still think he was to classy a player to have been cast off by the team the way that he was. I can’t say I am sorry Miami lost, but I would have wished for him to have a better game today.
-
if chad ever wins the super bowl i’ll walk up and down my street and bark like a dog and howl at the moon…in the nude.
it will never ever happen. elite defenses don;t respect the pop gun arm – the favre things was a risk they had to take…remember…tom terrific wasn’t hurt before we got favre, and with brady in ne, our 10 or 11 wins probably would have been meaningless anyway…
-
Watching Chad literally throw this game away made me smile becuase I am SICk of hearing Jets fan say how dumb it was to get rid of Chad. First off, he was like 1-8 as a starter and threw many bad, BAD interceptions.
Second, he can do a good job on a team that needs leadership, but thers a LIMIT to how far he goes. I’ll give him credit for a great regular season, but the dolhpins didn’t really beat any good teams this year (excpet the Pats and they also beat San Deigo but that was before they got hot)
Third, when you have the chance to bring in a guy who has a great arm and led the Packers to an nfc championship and a 13-3 record you TAKE THAT CHANCE and GET THE QUARTERBACK.
Now, our end result wasn’t exactly what we hoped for, and I’m no Favre lover (I hope he retires, itll save us 13 million plus hes not welcomed by his teammates really) but taking a chacne on Favre was a MUST because this team needed a spark. Favre gave us some great moments this season that I dont think Chad couldve done, but those bad teams we lsot to Chad probly wouldve done a better job than Brett. Bottom line is Chad beat the bads teams and Brett beat the teams that actually made the playoffs and gave us a thing called HOPE. That Brett hope is basically done now but you cant blame this organization for trying to get a champinoship.
-
Chad made a living this year behind a good running game and throwing the 2 yard pass that receivers took for a 1st down. In the games I saw he rarely went down field. Today he tried going down field and he got burned. Actually he looked like Favre throwing into coverage and hoping for his man in the jump ball.
My pre-season position was commit to KC play him all the way and keep Chad as insurance. I never wanted Favre but understood why the FO wanted to take the chance on catching lightening in a bottle. Now the Dolphins are stuck where we were last year, play the veteran who can go 10-6 and keep you in the hunt while your untested QB of the future sits and goes stale.
I like SD99′s idea of bring in Leftwich while we let KC and Ratty show us what they can do. NO Matt Cassel please. HC The Ryan brothers.
-
Doug coldnt agree with you any more. Love the leftwic idea as well. I dont think he got a fair chance at QB in jacksonville and looked pretty good against the ‘Skins this year. Im PRAYING for the Ryan brothers every night as well.

For all the screaming matches, hyperbole and way-too-flippant opinions (and to steal a piece of jersey), itiswhatitis,
Listen, Chad had limitations. We saw it, d coordinators saw it. But that doesn’t mean every defense could take advantage of it. He is excellent at play action, he is very accurate and for a long time would never throw an int in the red zone. But if you generate a rush and press the intermediate and short routes, you have him. The many times people would play off receivers, but then a drive would stall in the red zone because db’s didnt have to worry about wr’s getting behind them.
Obviously Balt has the athletes to press. All this Rex Ryan nonsense that he stopped Pennington. Yeah right, whatever. If pennington has a running game and protection, he’ll kill you. But who has that and big time receivers?
Favre the same thing. What do they have in common? Receivers who can’t break press coverage and a line that has breakdowns. All QBs in this league, if given time will complete plays. All QBs are in trouble against a big rush.
The great ones are accurate and can stretch the field. Pennington isn’t great, he’s pretty good and can win with all the other pieces. Favre was great and isn’t anymore. I doubt Pennington would have been able to win games in TN and NE. Also have to figure CP would have managed out a couple of wins on the west coast. So, it’s a push.
This coach is great… this one sucks, please. Players win. Granted, coaches can screw it up but where would Pags and the Giant D be without those pass rushers. All these coaches being discussed have their strengths. Give them the right players and they’ll win if the players support each other and do their jobs. Jets are close. They still need a few pieces… a WR, a CB, a better pass rush (which can be schemed) – but theres no cap room.
-
I agreed with the move to trade for Favre this summer, not because I was convinced #4 would lead the team to the SB, but because I thought it was the only way the franchise would be able to wean itself off of Chad Pennington.
If he’s on the squad, he’s good, savvy and determined enough to outplay any young QB prospect and prevents the team from developing a new starter, yet doesn’t have what it takes to beat the NFL’s elite defenses.Favre, for all the animosity he seems to have engendered among NY media and the vast majority of posters on this blog, helped the team win big games in Buff, NE and Tenn. He faded badly down the stretch and shouldn’t be invited back, but the net effect is the team will be more confident next year in those big games and a young QB will be in a more favorable environment for success.
-
Doug from long valley
No need too worry about Matt Cassel!!!! He will reportadly be franchised by NE according too SNY, I just heard 5 minutes ago!!! He’s expected too make between 12-16 million next year!!! Note: Brady makes around 15 million!!!
-
I agree completely, people forget it was a risk to make the trade at the point in training camp they made it, and considering the age and a new system??? But as a fan you want your team to show they are trying to win and willing to go for it. No one around here wants a team just to sit on its hands and be satisfied with mediocrity. It didn’t work, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a valiant effort and a worthwhile try.
For me the part that gets overlooked is that they showed that the organization is not content to make money and not win, they want to win and went for it and it didn’t work out. That’s a good sign for the future, that the Jets will do whatever it takes to try and win. There are no guarantees, but as a fan all you want is to see your team do everything they can to try and win. And they did just that.
-
Today was the living proof I what I wrote back in August – Chad cannot beat an elite D as they shrink the field on him
-
Oh Chad, you dirty dogg!!! I really don’t see the difference between missing the playoff’s by 1 or 2 games, and being smacked around, and embarresed in the 1st round??? Anyone care too enlighten me?
-
Large- Bill Billicek is playing devil’s advocate…Not sure if Brady will be ready to play the first game of the season and 2) If ya want the shot at a possible franchise quarterback give me all your draft picks and money too….Played like the true mastermind/scumbag that he is…NOW there are teams out there with the salary cap room and need a quarterback next season but are they willing to take the risk/reward at throwing away this years draft picks and millions of dollars that can help the rest of their team with other free agent and draft picks…ONLY time will tell….AND YES i am a CASSEL groupie and wanted him here with the JETS next season…BUT THATS TOO many green backs in my book…RISK ASSESMENT-WAY TO HIGH FOR THE MONEY…ONE other note i would pay CASSEL the money over bringing back FAVRE in a new york minute….
-
I could be wrong, and I probably am, but if we made the playoffs, would’nt we have too give Green Bay a higher draft pick???
-
Franchising Cassel could not have been easy for Belichick. 30 million bucks is a lot of money to tie up at one position. It’s antithetical to the BB model. It will make it harder for him to address other needs on an aging team. He only did it because he didn’t have a choice. Cassel may help the Jets more by staying in NE at that number.
-
Like I said here last week, Chad is useless.. I was trampled then by a bunch of so called Jets fans celebrating Chad’s 2nd in the MVP voting thing, I wonder if those guys will show their face today.
Good blog. Chad was terrible today. Actually, terrible would be an uprade for what Chad was today. Everytime he through it more the 6 yards past the line of scrimmage it was either picked or poorly thrown.
-
large i think it was a second round pick for playoffs and a 1st rounder if he played in the superbowl
-
largebarge-
Yes. The #3 we owe them now would have been a #2 if we’d gotten in.
-
I find it amazing how many people think Chad would’ve taken the Jets to the playoffs, when it was just last season when during a play during a game he came off the field for an injury and the Meadowlands faithful seemed to cheer as he hobbled off. Or did they boo when he came back on to the field? Many people were saying how done he was, and now he is the one that should’ve been their QB, because he would’ve taken them to the playoffs? I don’t see it people. Let’s move on to a new future.
-
Subwayfare I think either TOM BRADY is more severely injured than BB has let on to the media or BB has feelers out there that other teams were scouting CASSEL hard and will sacrafice their souls to get him….
-
Gangreen
I truly feel that Matt Cassel would’ve been a complete flop in New York!!! I just think he had the unfathomable benifit of sitting behind Brady, for several years, all the while learning the Pats playbook, forwards, and backwards!!! Can he toss the rock? Certainly! But, its a completely different story moving too a new franchise, with completely different personel!!! Just ask Favre!!! Could he have been good here? Who knows, but I would’nt bet on it!!!
-
Brady suffered a devastating injury. Just ask Joe Namath how tough it is to come back from having a knee torn to shreds. BB is between a rock and a hard place there. He has no one behind Cassel so if he became a free agent and got offered the baskets of money everyone expects and then Brady had a setback, they’d be in deep trouble. It’s a very expensive hedge.
-
Now let me ask another question??? Who among us would rather make the playoffs, “thus losing a 2nd round pick”, only too lose too a vaunted Baltimore team? I say this because I really don’t think we could have beaten this Ravens team today!!! My opinion, of course!!!
-
I WANT MICHAEL CRABTREE!!!!!!!!
-
MAybe there’s another MIKE DITKA oit there…lol remember the 1999 draft were he gave up all this draft picks that year and 2 more in 2000 to get RICKY WILLIAMS…Maybe some other coaches are that stupid and will give BILLICEK all the money and draft picks to rebuild his team in one year…I sure to GOD hope not because if they do NE will be even more potent than years previous….AND a side note someone posted earlier that the media reported that REX RYAN was happy and eager to come HC the JETS next year…ANYONE got a link or KNOW of the media that ran this article?????
-
THE sadest thing BARGE is that CARBTREE will be gone by the time we pick and dont think that the JETS will move up to get him either…PSSST….come closer LOL this front office isnt that smart…
-
Green-
No idea about that story but Boland, on his Newsday blog, says that Jets brass were focused on todays game and it made an impact for Ryan’s case.
http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/blog/
To my knowledge, the minimum for trading for a franchise player is 2 #1 picks. A hefty price for a guy who played pretty well for one year. Some have speculated that Brady could be the one BB trades, though I have no idea what Brady’s contract looks like.
-
I’m probably wrong, but does’nt Brady have a no trade clause in his contract? And I know Crabtree will be gone before we get the chance too grab him, but I STILL WANT HIM!!!!
-
WOW rumors of trading a quarterback that got ya 3 superbowl rings…DAMN somethings up then with T.BRADY injury if they are contemplating trading a guy like this…TALK about being two faced(BB) biting the hand that feeds ya WOW this blows my mind…NOW my question is if NE is willing to trade BRADY does anyone think the JETS would again buy HIGH and take the chance he gets back to his old form????
-
SUBWAYFARE
Thanks4 the link!!! I’m really starting too lean towards Rex!!! He brings a certain attitude that this team desperately needs!!! And at the end of that link, it mentions that Ray Lewis is a free agent at the end of this season!!! Can we afford him?
-
Green-
It’s nothing but unsubstantiated internet speculation but BB is known for not allowing emotions to get in the way of his business decisions, Deion Branch, Lawyer Milloy, etc., Of course, Brady would put that ideology to the ultimate test.
-
FAVRE’s contract was for 12 mill last year and only for a year so their is no further obligation to him and if he doesn’t come back and we get rex, the money may be there to bring in LEWIS,,,but once again dont ya think they will franchise him like CASSEL because he is the quarterback of their defense…IF BALTIMORE defense lost LEWIS it would be a huge impact as for not only is he their leader on the field but he still got the JUICE to play at a high level…Gotta look at it like this also IMAGE LOSING YOUR DC AND LEWIS talk about a defense crashing back to reality…
-
large-
The Ravens will probably overpay to keep him in purple. He’s 33 with a lot of hard miles and looking for a 5 year deal with big guaranteed money. Don’t think the Jets could really consider what it might take.
-
RAY LEWIS is the face(IMAGE) of the BALTIMORE RAVENS my quess is that they give him the contract that keeps him there until he retires….
-
GANGREEN
Don’t start believing these rumors about the Pats trading Brady!!! And if you think Bellichick would trade him too the Jets , AT ANY PRICE, YOU’RE BACK TOO BEING NUTSO!!!
-
Fred:
You are the true definition of a front runner!!!
-
SUBWAY speaking of Middle linebackers wasnt there alot of grumbling with URLACHER this season over his contract or did CHicago give him the deal he wanted??
-
Uh Oh, I’ve heard bad things about Fonz!!! I think it may be bedtime!!!
-
Rex Ryan , Brian Cushings and Tim Tebow in the 2nd round.
-
We don’t need RAY LEWIS!!!
We need for the next coach to follow in Mangini’s footsteps based on the way he managed games. With FARVE and COLES out of the way he will be the image of the team and he must trust his players because Mangini built them!!
-
Did I miss somethimg? Was Coles released, or traded today?
-
Green-
Pretty sure Urlacher got paid in Chicago. I actually think Rex Ryan could do a lot with the existing personnel, though I expect he’d look for some speed at LB wherever he could get it at a reasonable price.
-
I much rather have Chad right now on this team than with the Dolphins after what has happened I see all of you are trying to get on that vicious cycle of buying big name free agents to make up for the stupidity of the owner’s decisions. I guess you guys like talking and jerking off when the JETS season is over!!!
-
FONZ
Who will be the image of the team? Are you feeling O.K.?
-
FONZ ITs getting late or maybe i’m slow at this time but your last post was sarcasm or a joke RIGHT???

A Rex Ryan Link:

Fonztard.. Where’s the bluster tonight?
-
Oh boy, I see we have a new bafoon among us tonight!!! It was Joe S, earlier, now, it appears, “The Fonz”, has graced us with his nonsensical baffoonary!!! Go on Fonz, get it all out!!!
-
FONZ i just bought ya a MIAMI PENNIGTON JERSEY and a bus ticket to Penningtons house good luck with that and have a nice trip…AND I’m trying to think of a NFL team besides Chicago that wouldn’t go after RAY LEWIS if he was an availible free agent next year…LARGE pass me whatevers left of what FONZ is smokin tonight……
-
Rite on cue, Joe S joins the discussion!!! It’s definately bedtime!!!
-
Thanks Mr. Bassett! Chad’s a great guy but had he been the QB this year, we’d have been knocked out in the wild card round just like Miami–I’d rather stay home than get knocked out in that round. been there & with new direction & a QB we’ll get there! (i’m trying to be positive)
-
oh wait a second lets not get on FONZ he’s just venting cause they stopped rerunning old HAPPY DAYS episodes
-
1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock rock!!! 4,5,6 o’clock, 7 o’clock rock!!! 8,9,10 o’clock 11 o’clock rock, we’re gonna rock… around….. the clock tonight!!! Sing it Everyone!!!!
-
god that was great, in away even if the jets still had chad now and we made the playoffs, he would have done the same thing
also when are the jets going to sign shannonhan, we need a offense and a coach that knows how to win
“we play to win the game”, that is why we need a coach that knows how to
-
jets
Thank You, I really needed a good laugh!!!
-
large belt it out brotha…i’m running for my hair wax and bell bottoms….
-
Gee, Fonzie, I thought Chad had HOF written all over himself today.
Funny what a good defense can do to a noodle arm. -
wow jets dont know how u dig up these photos but they were halarious….
-
jets
Again, Hillarious!!! I love the”PROVE THEM WRONG CHAD” one best!!! I Love It!!!!
-
jets
Keep’em coming!!! “Decisions”, I friggin love it!!!
-
For all our sakes we really need to know if the idiots are actually considering Shotty.
If so, I’m done. Honest. After 40 years of garbage that would be incredible. I used to root for the niners (with Montana) as well as the Jets and could start again.
I am so disappointed. Can they really be this incompetent. And if they keep Shotty they might as well kept Mangini.
-
LARGE if ya look closely in the “PROVE THEM WRONG CHAD” photo i think i saw FONZ…LMAO
-
I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!!!! Just what the doctor ordered jets!!! lmfao!!!!
-
JETS your the man these photos are awesome send some to the NY POST so everyone can enjoy them….
-
I just downloaded the History photo its now my backround on my desk top lmao….
-
It’s been a hoot everyone, goodnight, and sweet dreams!!! Till tommorow, then!!!
-
I know that Chad has his limitations, but I think the bigger culprit for his performance was a total lack of wide receivers not named Ted Ginn. Greg Camarillo went out for the season a couple of weeks ago, and his replacement Devone Bess got hurt during the game. That left Pennington throwing to Ginn and some stiff named Brandon London who caught all of six passes during the regular season. I’d like to see Peyton Manning or (a healthy) Tom Brady succeed with that lack of receivers.
Injuries caught up to the Dolphins today, and this was a team that really wasn’t even close to the Ravens level to begin with.
-
Assuming Favre retires, do the Jets roll into the 2009 season with Ratliff, Clemens and Ainge? or do they bring in a veteran qb to mentor this inexperienced group? looking at the list of UFA and RFA’s …. I am not sure who that would be?
Would it be out of the question to draft a top tier qb if one fell to them at 16/17 pick…… incase Clemens and Ratliff are not the answer? If Clemens or Ratliff turnout to be the real deal, then this draft pick would be trade fodder (ala Shaub when he was drafted by the Falcons). If both Clemens and Ratliff can’t get it done, then your turning to a top rated nfl qb prospect, vs falling back on Ainge (5th rounder) or waiting for team cuts in late aug to find the answer?
-
Franchising Cassel is an absolute no-brainer. The Pats have about $25m more cap space than the Jets do, so after franchising Cassel, they will only be in the same boat as the Jets will be after Favre retires.
Then they can assess the Brady situation closer to the end of the offseason and if he looks like he’ll be healthy they can trade Cassel. And it need not be 2 #1′s although he might fetch that on the trade market – teams can negotiate a deal – ie like with John Abraham (who was also franchise tagged and then moved) went for a late first rounder, remember?
They actually aren’t tying up $27m (or whatever) in one position at all, because they can trade Cassel or rescind the tag at any time before the season starts, so the money will not be committed until then, and then it will only be if Brady won’t be back, in which case, a one year franchise deal for Cassel makes all the sense in the world (or a long term deal if Brady will NEVER be back).
-
“Would it be out of the question to draft a top tier qb if one fell to them at 16/17 pick…… incase Clemens and Ratliff are not the answer?”
No…but I’m not sure I like the idea of drafting a first round QB as a backup plan. You draft a first round QB to BE the franchise QB, although if both the rookie and these guys proved their worth, it would be a nice problem to have. I can’t see a QB or RB in the first round, because they have other needs.
-
And while I’m here I may as well comment on Chad. Last night’s game has no impact on his MVP credentials, because the MVP is a regular season award (just as Manning’s failure is no indictment on his award). He didn’t get a lot of help from his line or his receivers either.
Despite this, his interceptions were all really bad errors. It was really comforting to see that version of Chad again. Like the return of an old friend. I feel bad for Chad, but at least I (hopefully) now won’t have to spend hours deleting hundreds of gloating comments (including death threats) from Miami fans like I did last week.
I think maybe Chad deliberately played as poorly as possible to strength his resume for a possible comeback player of the year award next season.
It was an impressive defensive display by Rexy Ice’s boys, but at the end of the day, I’m not sure how much further Baltimore’s offense will take them.
The other comment I must make on this weekend’s game is to note how well Eric Weddle played, despite dropping a pick and also to note that Marcus McNeil was badly overmatched against Freeney in pass protection.
-
like the comment on McNeil – we dont hear too many longing comments from Brick haters anymore.
-
Please Jets fans don’t make excuses for Chad the Dolphins like we did for years when he was Chad the Jet.
He was terrible yesterday and cost his team the game. Is there really anything more to say?
-
Chad’s play yesterday completely validatated why the Jets let him go. Chad is great for many reasons (intelligence, ambition, enthusiasm) but when it really counts, he is not capable of beating a strong D.
-
Bent-
“They actually aren’t tying up $27m (or whatever) in one position at all, because they can trade Cassel or rescind the tag at any time before the season starts,”
I thought this went without saying. My comments were related to the possibility that Brady won’t be ready when the season starts – as some reports have implied.
And what I meant to say was that the two #1s were mandatory if another team offers a deal to a tagged player. He could be traded, yes, but I don’t see the situation as being quite as rosy for NE as you do. I guess that’s because my sense is that it’s quite possible they’ll have to go into the season with both QBs on the roster and they have other needs.
-
I’m tired of the Chad debate, but blaming Chad’s performance on his WRs is ridiculous. Chad’s success this season was all about short passes to his double TEs or his backs, with a heavy dose of “Wildcat” thrown in. Baltimore by having as few as 2 down linemen and blitzing Chad from everywhere took away his short passing game and made Chad move around. And, like I’ve said over and over, Chad is one of the NFL’s QBs who is most affected by the blitz. If anything, Chad’s performance highlighted how bad the Jets D was against him…no blitzing and no ability to pick off the same ill-considered ducks.
Bent, may I also comment that Haloti Ngata, who I wanted to draft over Brick, was (besides Ed Reed) the Ravens best defensive player yesterday? A 350 lb man with that kind of mobility?!? Did you see him drop into coverage? I still take Ngata and McNeil over Brick and Clemens.
-
Yeah, I’d do that too* (and would have done at the time). Ngata was my guy too, although I wanted them to trade back a few spots. (Maybe picking up a 2007 second rounder with which they could have picked up Weddle in the process?)
Sub – I have a glass half empty view with everything the Pats do, as it seems to always work out for them. That’s all. Everything you said was correct too, just the other side of the ledger.
* Much of my distaste for McNeil as an option for the Jets was because we needed a pass protection specialist to protect our fragile QB, which may not be such an issue any more, although his degenerative back condition isn’t going anywhere either.
-
According to eSPN radio, there are no franchise qbs in this draft.
-
They said last year had a weak crop of people too. Yet look at Ryan and Flacco.
-
Jets:
Hilarious pictures! I haven’t smiled since the Dolphins, or should I say, Ravens game yesterday. I wish we would have done more of this picture portrays in the last game vs. the Dolphins…or the last 5 games for that matter.
-
Bent:
In regards to your comment about Chad’s game last night having no indictment on his MVP credentials and comparing him to Peyton Manning, and this is not for argument’s sake, but Chad bares no comparison to Peyton Manning, or Eli Manning for that matter. I was absolutely shocked when I heard that Chad received 4 votes for MVP. If I can recall correctly, I am pretty sure that Peyton didn’t throw 4 INT’s in his playoff game. Still, I stick to my word, even though we lost embarrassingly to the Dolphins enough to make me want to bury my head in a hole and not come out for weeks, Chad was the same ol’ Chad, and it was because of our lack of defense and our lack of BLITZING why we lost that game…not Brett Favre (not that he helped). Either way, Chad Pennington is not even knocking on MVP’s door, never have and never will. Good guy, and I wish him well, but no good. I mean, COME BACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR….TWICE???
-
Bent, every year the draft pundits come up with “draft value” and ascribe it to players. Brick by that calculus was a top pick and Ngata was somewhere beneath him. Yet, he’s a 6-4, 350 lb. man who was Pac 10 defensive player of the year and showed unbelievable athleticism. This year guys like Dorsey and Long were the perceived top picks, but neither had the profile of NFL success that Ngata had. Like I said at the time, I subscribe to Parcells’ “planet theory” for DT/NT that there are only few huge “fat” men (Parcells’ words) with the athleticism of a Ngata on earth and when you have a chance to draft one, you should. Guys like Brick are in the draft every year (Thomas, Long, Clady, etc.), DTs who are 6-4, 350 lbs and athletic are much rarer…has their even been one since Ngata?
-
And looking at the bright side, even if the Jets would have made the playoffs I take comfort in knowing that they would have had the same fate as the Fish did as well.
-
Krista,
You continue your ignorant ways. The defense did its job versus the dolphins FARVE’S 3!!! Three interceptions that killed us especially one returned for a touchdown. That is not to mention our 3rd down efficiency which was 53 percent. That will not work against any team that wants to get into the playoffs. FARVE THREW THE GAME AWAY!!!
Go ahead blame the defense it only held penninton to 200 yards passing and helped limit their running game.
You will never give FARVE any blame guess we have another FARVE worshipper!!
-
Bent:
Terrance Cody is more of a Jenkins than Ngata. He takes more plays off because of his workout habits. Ngata is a blend of a superior defensive tackle (athleticism) and nose tackle (size). Jenkins is just starting to get familiar with the position but needs more experience. That is not to say Cody will be better its just they are more similar.
-
Krista,
Chad deserves every award he gets! He was more valuable to this Dolphins team this year than Peyton was to his Colts. What Chad did in one year Peyton couldn’t fathom doing in his entire career.
-
Colt McCoy when he comes out will be a 4 year starter with an over 60% completion percentage and he doesn’t dink and dunk. I want him to be our next franchise QB if we he isn’t on the team yet.
-
Fonz:
Not ignorant.
And are you sure you didn’t get the names mixed up and said Manning when you should have said Pennington and vice versa?
Let me quote you… “What Chad did in one year Peyton couldn’t fathom doing in his entire career”…YOU MEAN LIKE WIN A SUPERBOWL??? You must be kidding…or confused. I mean, what did Chad do that was so great in one year? Besides compile the majority of his yards running that Wildcat formation, and throw 4 interceptions in possibly the biggest game of his career?
You call me a Favre worshiper? Someone has a man-crush on Pennington.
-
Krista, the best part of the Dolphin situation is now they have inherited our problem: They just made the playoffs and lost miserably in the 1st rd. Chad is their QB and played well during the season, against the weakest schedule in the league, but was exposed against a good team. Next season they are forced to start Chad, at the expense of the QB they drafted. The team seems to love Chad, and if they replace him at some point with Henne, they could possibly face a revolt. This looks awfully similar to the 2006 Jets.
-
Pete 57:
Exactly. I’m glad that Chad is no longer our problem. And whether Favre comes back or not, at the most it will only be for one more year. However, Chad is in with the Dolphins for the long haul, that is if he doesn’t get hurt…NOT TO MENTION, they completely exhausted their playbook…nothing from here on out will be a surprise. The element of surprise is gone! Next year will be like watching the 2006 Jets all over again, and if we’re wrong, I’ll be really surprised!

Yes Krista, I think most Dolphin fans see a bright future, but I believe they will be very surprised at their season next year, especially with a much tougher schedule. Also, they have several key UFA this year. The Jets need a HC who can light a fire under people and be aggressive in game when it’s called for. If we get that coach we will make the playoffs. I do not think the Phins make the playoffs next year.

It wasn’t all the wild cat. Chad carried them the second half of the season. I have no idea what you guys saw, but their running attack looked horrible to me. As much as Chad dipped and dunked his 6yd gain was 3 more yards than they were getting per running play every time I saw them. Chad was the reason they beat us. The Wild cat is a popular word in the media and on espn, but wasn’t used as often after teams learned how to defend it around week 8. Give Chad the credit he deserves.
That being said Dolphins got lucky. That team totally overachieved.

Pete57, I agree totally! I feel like the team played like Mangini coached, with no enthusiasm or sense of urgency. Once the Favre hype faded, it was back to the same ol’ Jets. We need an aggressive coach that will show some sort of emotion on the sidelines. I think that the players like Mangini and respected him, but more so as a friend, rather than a coach. Just like the Favre hype wore off in New York, the Pennington hype will wear off in Miama! No playoffs for them, and depending on our HD and QB situation, maybe no playoffs for us either, but I am hoping for the best.

Guys, let’s get real here. Chad took a 1-15 team and led them to the playoffs and a division title with very little talent around him. For starters, Miami’s wide receiving corps are a joke. Come on, I don’t think Peyton Manning could win a Super Bowl with Devon Bess and Ted Ginn Jr. at receiver.
Chad was hurt in 2007 and he would’ve led the Jets to at least 11 or 12 wins with an improved o-line and running game this season.
Trading for Favre was the WRONG move. I said it before it even happened. There were too many factors going against Favre and his gun-slinging, brain-dead decisions would make fans wish they had Pennington behind center.
I’m a lifelong Jets fan and it made me sick to my stomach to see Chad celebrate a division title at Giants Stadium as a member of the Dolphins. Now the Fins have a QB for years to come and the Jets are left in the cold without a coach and quarterback. It wasn’t worth it.

Bent, I thought D-Rob and Vilma were obviously not 3-4 players and would have to be traded or otherwise re-deployed. I wanted Ngata at NT and would’ve experimented with D-Rob as an undersized DE. I had no idea what his contract situation was, but I thought he was still marketable and could’ve been traded before the 2006 draft for additional picks. IMO, Vilma was the real value, he could’ve been traded for a high pick or picks, but the Jets’ fan base would’ve howled. I thought that the defense had to be made over immediately, like what Parcells did with the Fins by getting rid of Zach Thomas, Taylor and others. Instead, we had to watch Vilma and D-Rob fail and decrease in value.

Yea… Just like all the INT’s Favre threw in the last 2 games for the Jets!
Chad would have won 12 games for this Jets team and we would have a bye (BUY) this weekend!
Getting to the show is better than Not getting in and then firing your coach!
Reports Circulating that Rex Ryan would love to have the Jets job. He wants to do what his dad did for NY… a SuperBowl WIN!
It’s great to wanted by a coach for a change!
