Mel,

So? I don't think Romeo Crennel was necessarily a bad coach, and I don't think Mangini is a bad coach, either. Not at all. Emotion and winning football games have nothing to do with each other. The Browns had a bad year- as someone who wrote the Browns preview chapter for PFP, I can tell you that it was highly likely that the Browns were going to have a bad year for a variety of reasons. We had them pegged at 6-10; unfortunately, the owner didn't get the memo, and he responded by firing a good GM and a competent coach. (Sounds suspiciously like our situation, minus the GM bit, come to think of it.)

Bubby:

I's a bit cnvoluted to think that our ownership wanted our two coordinators fired then fire mangini and offer one of them his Job. But then again, this is par for the way this organization thinks, and some fans too.!!

Seanmac, I wouldn't be happy if I were a browns fan because essentially they just traded one defensive-minded, unemotional coach for another. They basically just got a younger version of Crennel (who I'm hearing will stay on as D-coordinator- won't that be awkward?)

I think the odds that Mangini succeeds in Cleveland are marginally higher than that whatever coach we bring in succeeds here. Mangini has three years worth of experience and unquestionably left the team in much better shape than he inherited it. He's a young, smart coach, and he's going to a team with a lot of key positions already in place- young QB, a stud LT, a #1 WR, a #1 CB and a pass rusher.

If I were a Browns fan, I would be thoroughly satisfied with the choice.

It will be hard for Mangini with an unproven QB, dropsy Edwards at receiver, and little to no defense. I'm wishing him the best, as long as he doesn't beat us in the playoffs...

I don't think any rational fan thought Manigi was bad, hank. I was definitely a bit sad to see him go, but I also realize that no matter how much the rational fan wanted him to stay, it was pretty inevitable he was leaving. Again, it's just how it works. Not just in the NFL, but all sports. Coaches are the first to be blamed and the first to go.

Anyways, best to luck to him in Cleveland. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they made it to the playoffs before us. They had a solid season last year, although their division certainly isn't any easier than ours.

Well Mangini was run out of NY....

Now he will get the Browns into the playoffs as early as next season.

What will you all say then???? What?

Rex Ryan for HC of the NY Jets!

For the record, hank, I would've preferred that we kept Eric and canned the two coordinators, but my suspicion is that that's what Woody and Mike T. wanted too, but Eric wouldn't do it...so he took the fall. Now I've got NO PROOF of this, but the way it all went down so swiftly leads me to believe that this scenario could've happened...
