Source: Seahawks name Knapp new OC

Despite rumor mongering to the contrary, fired Boston College Jeff Jagodzinski will not be a part of Jim Mora’s staff in Seattle, at least not as offensive coordinator.

That’s because ESPN and the Associated Press are reporting that Seattle will hire Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Knapp for the same post.

I guess this means Jags could still come on in Seattle as a quarterbacks coach, but I wonder if he would leave BC for such a demotion. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes from here, especially with Daboll leaving the Jets and Schottenheimer being considered for the head man job. Jags could definitely still be considered for the OC job in Gotham.

  1. I wonder if BC’s reaction is raising some red flags. If I’m an NFL team and I’m hearing that the guy breached a verbal agreement to stay at BC, I’d be worried about him doing the same to our team, especially considering what happened with Bobby Petrino and Nick Saban.

  2. Oh man that would be awesome, but that would mean Schott as our HC and I’m totally against that, but we can’t rule out getting rid of Schott all together no can we.

  3. Wait a min. if Jags come in that might lower the chances of Favre retiring, but favre going back to the West coast ain’t a bad idea, but I still don’t want Favre back

  4. so we have Schottenhiemer as a lame duck coach for one year, then the big guns next year. great……………

  5. And we can’t have those Schott and Jags together, don’t they run two different playbooks

  6. i mean systems

  7. Is Schotty really the favorite now? What happened to Rex Ryan?

  8. Schott has no Schott at getting the job. I actually hope he goes with Mangini to the Browns or KC with his Dad. Since he is under contract we can demand a draft pick for him.

    REX RYAN IS THE MAN!!!

  9. Actually Rob Ryan (Rex’s twin brother) is rumored to going with Mangini to the Browns, so if Rex Ryan comes to coach the Jets that could be a very interesting situation when we play the Browns.

  10. what’s everyones thought on Russ Grimm as HC. I didn’t really think anything of it when I first heard about it but then I started reading about him and I found this article.

long story shortm Grimm for HC!

“Grimm’s reputation as a coach grew quickly once the Steelers hired him. The Chicago Bears were ready to hire him as their head coach in 2004 but Grimm balked when told management would help him pick his staff. Gibbs wanted to hire him as his offensive coordinator when he returned to the Redskins in ‘04, but Grimm was under contract to the Steelers, who did not want to lose him. They promoted him to assistant head coach.

“He’s been our little hidden secret for many years now,” Steelers All-Pro guard Alan Faneca said. “He’ll make a great head coach.” ”

  11. Russ Grimm certainly seems qualified, but if we bring in an offensive HC we would need to get a proven DC because our biggest issues are on that side of the ball.

I have to say though, as much as I was hoping the Jets would just jump right on Bill Cowher the day after they let Mangini go, they actually seem to be taking their time and diligently exploring every single option available before they make their decision, and that’s probably a good sign.

  12. nyckage: Favre could be Matt Hasselbeck’s backup, no?

  13. Oh, you mean the West Coast offense, not the West Coast.

  14. Daboli is Mangini’s boy. Unless they really love him for some reason, (he’s the QB coach and his QB threw 22 picks), I think that’s someone they’ll let Mangini take with him to Cleveland.

With the OC job in Seattle gone and Schotty, from the looks of it, will stay on as OC at the very least, if not hired as the HC, Jags might be replacing Daboli.

This looks like a smart move, whether Farve comes back or not, given Matt Ryan’s sucess in the NFL.

Jags could very well be the next step in the maturation process of some of our young QBs.

The tea leaves are looking more and more like a HC with a defensive background.

Let me ask you this, how many of you out there would take Mangini back for one more year, now that he has Rob Ryan as his DC?
