D. Rose’s Official Rant Thread

I don’t know about you but sometimes thinking about this team makes me really angry. I’m not sure why, they are kind of like that friend you have that no matter how hard you try to get used to his constant let downs, they still drive you crazy.

I am feeling a lot of anger about the team, the season, and the way this organization is run. Recently scientists in the UK have found that throwing a tantrum can greatly reduce stress levels and improve your mental health. So here is a place for you Jets fans to air your grievances in a stigma free environment.

So rant away fans, you KNOW you want to!

  1. As I think SackDance said the other day, this is more a reflection on you than on the team. No offense but it’s not a cursed team (I can name plenty of worse off franchises) and we’re not an elite team. We’re a team that has a huge Super Bowl win 40 years ago and have been mediocre since, with a couple near-misses, much like the rest of the mediocre teams in the league. Sometimes a putrid franchise rises up and wins it all (Tampa) and sometimes they don’t, but so many people ignore the good and focus on the bad, and again, that is more a reflection on you than on the team.

  2. I agree completely, Razor. Why do I see so many posts on this blog about how horrible the Jets are and how we should all be pissed off? To be honest with you, while I’m disappointed that the Jets blew it (again), I’m happy that Woody made a move – and I wholeheartedly support that move – and I’m actually excited to see a new face, a new personality come in and hopefully bring the Gang Green some success.

So all in all, when it comes to the Jets right now, I’m excited, hopeful, and happy, not with the way the season ended, but pretty much with everything that has happened since then and that might happen in the coming months. We’ve got the draft to look forward to, with a potential future Jets QB/WR/CB, and a regime, one that I hope will exhibit a lot more fire and passion than the previous one.

If you want to rant and complain every time you make a post, go ahead. And this may be hypocritical of me since I certainly rant and complain my fair share during the season, but it’s the offseason now and I prefer to remain optimistic.

    Go Jets!

  3. at work i slam my key board, it helps but besides the people around me, everyone else looks at me like i am a little crazy. i call it part of trading the market

also, the way this season ended really has made me sick. the defense was something that drove me up the wall. even revis, harris and jankins did nothing towards the end. being at the san francisco game and then watching the seattle game just was the worst thing in the world.

there were some great highs this year, i mean beating the titans and the pats were the best. but then watching brett do nothing but lose games just really hurt.

now we are left this another season with a new beginning, i dont know what to think about the future. who is the QB, what is defense like and can we get a coach that can handle the media and the owners.

i had the pleasure of meeting MR. Hess many times bc my grandfather sold him trucks, and that was a owner with class, and someone that knew how to run a team. now i dont know. i dont know what goes on and if they can get us to the playoffs, or to even a super bowl.

but i am a jet fan, this is always the story and one day they will give me a superbowl, until then, there is always jets blog to rant on

  4. Why do they allow you to post on this blog?

  5. “So rant away fans, you KNOW you want to!”

No, YOU know that YOU want to. No one else has a problem with the Jets being meticulous and thorough in their coaching search, even if it means that ZOMG MANGINI GOT JOBB B4 WE GOT NEW COACH!!!!one

  6. I tired of not having a face of the Franchise, that’s what we need
ex. Charger’s LT, Colts and Giants Manning, Pats Brady/Belichick Ravens D, we don’t have a guy or unit that defines us, we need to draft the next John Elway or Barry Sanders,

I am being serious here, we need a franchise guy to be successful and more importantly consistent year in and year out, the guys that I have mentioned they basically make the playoffs every year but the Ravens are a special case,

Give me one guy we have, that everybody knows and call him the best at his position and is the source of our victory, we have no one, which is why I think this draft is crucial for the Jets and their future.

  7. D Rose, have to agree with most of the posters above. I’m actually feeling really good about the org right now. Tannenbaum is probably the most decisive and fast working gm in the league. He upgraded our talent level this year considerably, and he took a hard look at the team as a whole and realized we needed someone else to lead the players. So he immediately fired his good friend. Gotta love that. Now he is going through a very methodical search to find the right guy. I’m sure he knew even before he fired Mangini who he wanted. Look at the Browns. Their owner takes a knee jerk, and hires Mangini, before he even hires a GM. That’s backwards. If you look at almost any statistcs, since Parcells came here the Jets would be slotted in the top half of the league. Wether it’s wins, playoff appearances or playoff wins. So, no, they haven’t gotten there yet, but things are going in the right direction. I’ve been a fan since Joe Willies last days. The Jets were on the right track with Walt Michaels as HC, but then he left because he wanted to draft Marino, and felt he was over ruled by peoiple who did not know football. Between then and Parcells it was tough. But since then we’ve consistently been one of the better franchises (top half) in the league. The Cardinals just won their first home playoff game since 1947. That’s 1947. Look at Detroit, Cleveland, Oakland, MIAMI, etc. New England was a nightmare before Parcells. I feel the Jets are on the right track, and I am confident Tanny will add some more pieces, and find the right coach. I think we have a good shot at the playoffs next year.

  8. The organization has been a joke since, oh, 1970. Woody Johnson is more interested in how he looks to his friends in Manhattan than in fielding a winner– not that he has in clue.

I am giving up my season tickets which I have held since 1989 in the upcoming season and will not be partaking in this ridiculous stadium, which, I, as a NJ resident, am paying for anyway.

    Woody should sell.

We’ve already had an accountant running the team- his name was Steve Gutman.

We do have a face of the franchise- it’s an old, worn out Joe Namath.

I could go on and on…

  9. I’ve grown accustomed to getting excited about the season ahead as opposed to upset over the season behind. I really get fired up around the time free agency begins, then the combine and it turns up a notch after the draft, no matter who the teams selects. I gues it is the excitement from the possibilities of what could be in the season ahead. As time passes, I have to say the one thing that has been consistant about each passing season is the inconsistancy of the organization. I can’t really on hope, but I have to believe that since Woody has taken over, there is proof that so many different aspects of the frachise have improved and that there is consistant effort to change the franchise for the better. The problem still lies in the execution. The next step forward lies in Tannenbaums hands. He better have learned to think more like the football guy he needs to be, than the lawyer and numbers guy he is.

  10. I have had season tickets since 1983. That’s 26 seasons. In those seasons they have no Super Bowl appearances and 4 lousy home playoff games. I have seen them blow draft pick after draft pick, switch coaches ad-infinitum, and now want to charge me through through every hole in my body for PSLs in the worst economy since the Great Depression. They are a pathetic franchise who will never see another dime from me again.

All of you other posters who are such Jets’ supporters either haven’t suffered long enough, yet, or are living in fantasy land.

  11. I really liked what mangini had done with the organization. He had a clear blueprint for what he wanted, and that blueprint seemed to come from extensive research. The guy even had his music selection for practice down to a science. I really feel that firing him was a huge mistake, and set back for this team, which deeply pains me. Do fans not remember how bad Herman Edwards was? I know Mangini made some questionable in game decisions, but every coach has, especially Cowher. I wish the fan base could have shown some loyalty and patience with someone who had a solid program in place. The guy isn’t even 40 yet, of course he was going to make some mistakes along the way. Mangini deserves a great deal of credit for developing Mr. T’s draft picks, and for putting all of last years FA signings to good use. The players were shocked, and did not seem to agree with his firing, which speaks volumes about the decision. The worst part is that the owner didn’t even give a reason for firing him, he simply said it was time to go in a different direction, which is what firing means…

  12. i refrained from commenting in the comment section all year until now and unlike almost everyone here i’ll even use my mom given name cause it’s so damn easy to throw darts behind a fake one (though, i have to admit, “abduul salaam” brought me back and made me chuckle).

I am 36 and change and have been a Jets fan since i was old enough to watch football with my dad. And it’s true, this is one frustrating franchise. They have been royally pissing me off since Mark Gastineau had that ridiculous penalty and the Jets called a 3 and 15 DRAW PLAY in OT. The Jets have ALWAYS been like this. We are the Charlie Browns of the NFL….Lucy always pulls the ball away, doesn’t she?

I called my Fins fan friend after Miami picked up Chad and the others and told him their franchise was back. I told him this Favre deal was a disaster in the making. How could it not have been. There is so much to be negative about this team. Front office, owner, coaching, play calling. Firing Mangini i think will also prove to be a mistake, for the record. I think it’s very likely we will be, again, rebuilding for 2-3 years. Hopefully, the career INT leader in NFL history will stay in Mississippi clearing brush or wrestling pigs or whatever it is that faded southern football heroes do when they are put out to pasture.

But let’s also get a little perspective, shall we. This is your team. You have seasons tickets and don’t wanna pay exhorbitant prices…i dont blame you….i watched the last 5 games streaming on justin.tv rather than go to a bar with the LAJets Fans so i didnt have to waste an extra $30 on guinness, makers and food…but for all the posters here who “are done with this team” and “won’t give another dime to this team” i say GO. This isnt a pizza joint that went bad and you go elsewhere, this is WHO WE ARE. For better, for worse.

Do i like losing? Notsomuch. But you know what I will miss most in life- when the day(s) come and my Uncle Steve and my Pops pass on and I no longer have anyone to call (or receive calls from) to bitch about the playcalling, why they dont give Leon more touches, did you see that amazing pass, etc…..win or lose, thick and thin this is our team. We have history together.

My grandmother used to say “live in hope, die in despair”. Try and not get too worked up over it. It’s a GAME and you aren’t a participant, just an interested observer. Get a grip. So to all my fellow Jets fans who aren’t whiny little bitches, enjoy you’re offseason. I’ll look forward to screaming at the TV with you again next year in September.

Thanks for letting me rant jetsblog people.

    l8s.

  13. Why is Kerry Rhodes doing Youtube and Twitter garbage? This is the type of player we need off of our team. When’s the last time Rhodes made big hit, or a big pick? This guy is an overated clown. He stinks. Get rid of him and Ellis pronto.
We were all led to believe that Rhodes was a superstar, when in fact, he’s a super scrub.

    Get Billick!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I don’t understand the hostility being shown to drose about this subject. There was the earlier post which was apparently deleted to calm the masses – and now this one, which has spurred on several more readers calling for his head. I don’t get it. I’m not much for throwing tantrums, but how can you not at least identify with the sentiment of the post?
    - being exhausted with the constant frustration that this team gives. The feeling that no matter how many steps forward they take, they’ll find a way to take just as many back.

There was a lot of talk during the season by (among others) ESPN’s talking heads, asking “what is this teams identity”. they were referring to running/passing team of course – but when you think about it, “frustration” is the team’s (and the fanbase’s) real identity.

It’s the rant. It’s a paper bag over your head saying “Just End The Season.” It’s listening to Joe Beningo on the radio launching into 20 minutes about why he can’t take it anymore and knowing that while fans of other teams may be listening, only a jets fan really gets it.

I may not be much for a tantrum, but I sure identify with the sentiment. how can you not?

  15. by the way, “Jeff Sperber”

I understand your point with “throwing darts behind a fake name” (SOOOOO easy) – but it’s just as easy to do it under your real name (how many jeff sperbers are in the phone book?). now, if you REALLY want to rise above the fray, you’d put your name, address, phone number, and email address, welcoming all those who wish to take your remarks up with you. THAT, i’d respect.

  17. Buddha, our family has had season tickets since 1962 and I have been going to games for 36 years, so I’ve been going longer than you, but you are right, I have not suffered as long as you, because again, you saying you have ’suffered’ through your 26 seasons is more about you than it is about reality. That it’s taken you 26 years to finally realize that you were doing something that made you so upset kind of puts you in the fantasy land all this time, not us. The supportive Jet fans I have read above seem to be the ones touching on reality.

  18. And Jeff Sperger — just like every baseball fan thinks THEIR closer is the worst (except Yanks) and that no other team understands how bad he is, it’s easy to think your team is the only one that always has the ball taken from them like Charlie Brown. But I live with a Bills fan, and try telling them that their franchise has been better off than ours over the last 50 years. Their history is insanely sad. We have Joe Namath as our embassador and 1969, they have OJ Simpson as their best player, wide right and 0-4 in super bowl (and don’t try “at least they made it” cause they got blown out in the other three and consider it a black mark), and have been awful now for years with more blown good starts than anyone. There are plenty of other teams but you get the idea. Every city but a few lucky ones have the right to rant too, I’m not saying you don’t have that right, I’m just saying keep it in perspective and realize you are not the only team with a checkered past and it could be worse.

  19. Freeman, you make me laugh. Because Kerry Rhodes had an off year he should not be able to have a social life? Should he cancel his email account and never check facebook? If he was shopping in the mall for his kids would you punch him in the face and tell him he should be studying film?

Maybe he is overrated but that he has a life off the field is irrelevant. And Brian Billick was on Match Game, so I suppose you don’t want him on your team either.

  20. A Little rant

Did anyone else want to punch their TV last night when they showed Bob Kraft and Billy B; with that disgusting blonde on his lap, smiling and sipping drinks in their luxury box of the BCS game? At least they’re not in the playoffs, but still…
I want Suttons head on a stick, Farve to hang them up without becoming a sniveling bitch ( I respect him and his great career, but know when you’re done and go out on a high note..like 2 years ago) and we need Rex as our coach. If schotty becomes our head coach..well…anyone wanna buy season tix?
So sick of waking up Monday for work hung over, gassy and depressed. Can deal with the hang over and tailgate food induced stomach rot when we win…but this year was rough…for me and my coworkers…AND, I’m so pissed not one of my program page paper airplanes made it all the way down to field level..
    ugh!

  21. My level of disappointment is a twelve out of ten. I began to prepare myself after the Seattle lose. The reason, I realized the Jets would not beat the (HATED) Dolphins even in the Meadowlands. Did Favre just wear down? No the decision making was a major problem the talent around him and the 39 year young Favre bring up the rear for blame. There seems to be enough to go around, so I will let everyone have some. RUN the ball, with Jones and Washington they could have run into playoffs, get a big Wide out hot routes (slants thrown high can be caught), and finally make a decision as to what type of team you are. Are you a tough or finesse team. MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!!

  22. Razor,
I guess I’m just upset with his play so I don’t want to see his smiling face all over the net. According to that SI article, he had 5 passes defensed this year. 5. I don’t mind the media exposure, I just wish he was on another team doing it. He’s on my list of players to dump. If only we could get the safety from USC with our mid-round 1st pick….just maybe that will comes to pass.
