Cornering Coaches: Steve Spagnuolo

spags.jpg

We’re going to take a close look at some of the candidates for the Jets head coach in the next few days. First up? Spags.

Steve Spagnuolo
Giants Defensive Coordinator

Interview: Spoke with the team last weekend in accordance with the league rules for divisional week bye teams. Word on the street was that the interview was choppy, he wasn’t as polished as the team would have hoped.

Expertise: Blitz heavy 4-3 defense

Resume Bullet Points: In September of 2007, he and his defensive line were under fire, Michael Strahan Antonio Pierce (thanks Boland!) was even blowing airhorns in the locker room at reporters asking about the defensive woes. The team came around with a strong game against the Eagles where they had 12 sacks in one game, tieing an NFL record. His defense got scorching during the end of the season, and embarrassed Tom Brady in the Super Bowl getting to the vaunted QB more than anyone had all season.

Positives: Spags is a hot name right now, across the league and certainly in New York. Spags was the guy who took a good defense with most of the parts and made it great. From what the players who know him say, they really do love his style, his energy and his ability to educate. He’s a smart tactician and has proven he can work with a talented group, and focus them to acheive.

Negatives: Spags has never been a head coach before in the NFL … will that be a detriment to his candidacy? The Jets just went through two such similar guys and by their reckoning, they turned out to be the wrong guys for the team … going into a new stadium can Woody Johnson allow for this again? Can he be a head coach in the NFL? Many coordinators or not cut out to be head coaches … just ask Wade Phillips. Spags would likely bring the 4-3 to a unit that just finished changing their style to suit Mangini’s 3-4 tendencies. It would probably be less pieces and overall easier to move back to a 4-3, but it’s still means dead money sitting on the bench between Calvin Pace, Bryan Thomas and Vernon Gholston.

What it Could Mean: “Spags” and “4-3″ seem synonymous. Would he overhaul the unit or can he adapt his scheme? In Pittsburgh, Mike Tomlin a Tampa-2 disciple acceded to the Blitzburgh 3-4, but there he already had Dick LeBeau … Bob Sutton doesn’t exactly instill the same respect around the league.

  1. I think it was Antonio Pierce with the air horn

  2. Other thing that makes this “tricky” – big difference between being a coordinator and HC of NYJ (or any team). Not sure HC has as much impact on the day-to-day operations of an offense or defense. What makes them a great coordinator may not have as much of an impact on “their side” of the ball, never mind the other side.

  3. Rex is the man, lot of risk with Spags but m ay sell PSL’s better than Ryan. Look at tucks size, IMO bring in Bryan Thomas into tackle on passing downs, or Ellis in side and Thomas outside…

  4. Spags will FAIL as a HC!!!!!

Spags is a MEDIA CREATION a NY MEDIA CREATION and is NOT Ready to be a HC!!!!!!!!!

I also don’t want a Giant Coach as a new HC of the Jets!

HIRE Rex Ryan as the NEW HC of the NY Jets NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    JET FANS read this story:

Ryan is finishing his fourth season as defensive coordinator for the Ravens and 10th year with Baltimore.

Ryan’s defense has already grabbed a great deal of attention after forcing five turnovers in a wild-card victory over the Miami Dolphins, who had NFL record-low 13 turnovers during the regular season. Chad Pennington, who had thrown only seven interceptions in 16 games, was picked off four times.

    Aggressive, innovative thinker

“You can look at any game that my guys are out there on the field, and I think they represent me — who I am, what I stand for,” Ryan said.
This is who Ryan is: a highly aggressive and innovative thinker who always believes in turning up the heat on the opposing quarterback in every way imaginable. This is what he stands for: whatever it takes to win.

A classic example of his creativity came during the wild-card game at Miami, when 6-foot-4, 345-pound Haloti Ngata suddenly vacated his usual spot at nose tackle and wound up at middle linebacker.

“What happens when you do that is you’re putting pressure on the opposition,” Ryan said. “Because now, if they are just looking at that front as a 3-4 front, then he might be identified as a linebacker. And when that happens, now we can get Haloti on a running back, so if we blitz a 350-pound linebacker, a running back has to try to block him.

“We do that stuff all over the place. We can take corners and have them rush. We can drop out on the nose tackle and blitz a corner (through the middle). And we’re not scared to overload a whole side (to rush the passer). We always say, ‘Don’t let the only limitations your players have be you as a coach.’”
Ryan has long preached the “KILL” philosophy of teaching: Keep it likeable and learnable. He makes certain that every member of the defense knows everyone else’s responsibilities. That way, players become interchangeable and opponents have a harder time figuring out who and what is coming their way from one game, or snap, to the next.

This applies to backups as well as superstars such as linebacker Ray Lewis and free safety Ed Reed.
“If you dress, you’re going to have some role for us, in some capacity,” Ryan said. “The players really buy into it, they take ownership in it. It’s great when you can say to a Ray Lewis, ‘Ray, you’re going to have to eat up these two (blockers) so (outside linebacker) Jarret Johnson has a chance to be free or be one-on-one.’ Ray Lewis, a first-ballot Hall of Fame guy, is willing to sacrifice for a lesser-known player, although Jarret’s an excellent player in his own right. But it could be any player, and those guys will make that sacrifice on anything that we call.”
The rap on Ryan is that he doesn’t come off as being particularly polished in interviews. He has the bold and brash personality of his father, former NFL coach Buddy Ryan. The same goes for his twin brother, Rob, who has also been the defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders and is in line to fill the same job with the Cleveland Browns.

But Rex Ryan makes it clear that his style of coaching is going to be as subtle as a punch in the mouth.
“I’m not blessed with a silver tongue,” said Ryan, who has coached in the NFL for 12 years. “I don’t think I’m going to wow anybody in an interview. I’m just going to be myself and hopefully that’s good enough to get a job. I understand a great responsibility that a head coach has to (represent) an organization, and to be considered in that light is really special to me.

“But I want to become a head coach because I think I can do a great job.”

WOW…. Jets HIRE this MAN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/story?id=09000d5d80dfe53c&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

  5. GREAT POST JOE S. good to know who REX RYAN is as a coach and as a person WE need a talent like him to run this football team..WOODY after the interview write the check I think a 4 year 8 million dollar contract should do the job….Just think Mangini was making 1.5 million to coach the JETS last year

  6. By FAR the most overblown thing about hiring Spagnuolo is the transition to his defense. This isn’t another 4-3 to 3-4 switch, understand that for a 3-4 there is much more specialization and it took forever for the Jets to find a player that could play two gap in the middle and when you take players to play OLB in the draft they’re almost always making a position change. 4-3 players are much more easier to find and 3-4 players can play 4-3 much more often than 4-3 players can play 3-4.

Spagnuolo is a guy that knows how to utilize his players. That’s where the “four aces” package came from, that’s where the Kiki at OLB came from, that’s where moving Tuck around came from.

It’s not as simple as looking at players and saying “bust in 4-3″, it’s about how they were utilized in the scheme. Calvin Pace struggled in Arizona early in a 4-3 as an end. But he flourished in his last year there in a scheme that wasn’t a 3-4, but a versatile defense that played a ton of different formations but simply utilized him in coverage more and standing up.

Calvin Pace is a decent cover player. He can quite easily play what Kiwanuka played before he was called backed down to end this year with the Osi injury, and play it better. He’s not a lost cause.

Vernon Gholston, a top 10 pick whether as a DE or OLB and how many analysts actually think he’d be better fit for a DE anyway?

David Harris is not a “strict 3-4 player”. There were 4-3 teams looking at him in the first round in ‘07, and Jeremiah Trotter and now Stewart Bradley in Philly are proof that big, thumping LBs can play the middle in Spags’ scheme.

Kenyon Coleman is a misfit, Bryan Thomas maybe is a misfit. You don’t scheme around Kenyon Coleman, and Bryan Thomas is an average player that we brought in Gholston to replace anyway and would have been moved back to a depth role/pass rusher anyway.

Spags can motivate, he can develop talent, and players love to play for him. That’s why the Jets need him.

  7. Give Rex 4 Years $12 Million.

Mangini got 4 Years $12 Million from the Browns. I think Rex Ryan should get the same if not slightly more than Mangini.

  8. Spags looks great, but Rex has got to be the guy.

  9. Spags is a MEDIA CREATION a NY MEDIA CREATION and is NOT Ready to be a HC!!!!!!!!!

I also don’t want a Giant Coach as a new HC of the Jets!

Looks good to the Media. They are wrong 80% of the time. NY Media is wrong 95% of te time.Favre was a MEDIA creation and instrumental in bring him here to the Jets. Woody get snowed by the media as well.

HIRE Rex Ryan as the NEW HC of the NY Jets NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. can we just hire a dam coach please

  11. Joe S

But Mangini has had 3 HC seasons on him on his resume, and 2 of them winning, Rex doesn’t have that

I think Spags might do a good job, but come on we just got the right personnel for the 3-4

But If we were to sign Spags, we can easily adjust, Jenkins and Ellis have shown they can dominate in the 4-3, we can trade away Kenyon Coleman, move Gholston to DE, get rid of Barton and Thomas, and I think Pace can adjust to 4-3 LB, and we can draft a LB in the 1st Rd and either sign a DT or draft him the in the 2nd Rd or trade up to 1st Rd to get one, but then we would be ignoring all our offseason needs, like offense ( QB and WR) and the secondary issues

  12. You can NOT easily adjust to a 4-3 from a 3-4!

Pace only performed when they switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

The others on the Jets pre-Mangini played a 4-3 and thoses defenses did not play very well!

The Jets are 1 to 2 players away from having a great 3-4 and with a coach who knows how to run a 3-4 defense like Rex Ryan the Jets will finally have an IDENITY!

    A SHUT DOWN NASTY DEFENSE!

Rex Ryan is 46 years old Mangini was 35 Years old when he signed the Jet contract and Mangini is 37 for this 4 year $12 Million defense!

Plus it’s OK in my book to pay the Ryan Family indirectly NOW for getting the Jets it’s 1st Super Bowl win in 1968 with that Shut Down Defense!

    HIRE REX RYAN IMMEDIATLY!!!!!!!

  13. GO TITANS!! So the Jets can make it official come Monday. Rex, has to first get his free 9am breakfast, courtesy of the Rams. After he has finished off that it will be off to NY to sign the DEAL!!!

  14. Jay-
No-not until Kotite gives Tanny his answer.

  15. Why do we have to get a first time head-coach again? Let Spags show what he’s made of with another team, we already tried that with Mangini….who happens to be the mirror image of Spags, give or take a few pounds. Been there done that! Come on, people!

  16. jas- i hope we get em

  17. if spags is the head coach….i might as well become a giant fan…

can we keep things within the jet dynasty…no more of the Patriots left over or students of Billechick…..and now borrowing and eating off the plates of our hometown rivals.

lets go else where with someone with more wisdom and experience when it comes to managing players and has family ties to the jets success already……*ehem* ….rex ryan

its not that hard, so lets wait till rex ryan actually gets his interview and leave it to the jets front office to screw this up, and deny the guy a job because he didnt kirtsy and smile with woody. i could see it now.

i promise you, lucky giants superbowl victory or not, if the jets hire spags…we all are doomed…..and for those who think us transitioning back to the 4-3 isnt a big deal…..you are in for a rude awakening and must look forward to a new rebuilding scenario every damn year. No wonder this franchise has yet to achieve greatness and consistently stay there, because we actually admonish and consider things like hiring spags because he won one with the giants….good grief! have a spine!……just one more thing for giant fans to hang over your heads, lol

  18. nyckage….neither does spags….whats your point?….we are talking about whos the best for this job…spags is not it

  19. we actually have built a decent front 7 to run the 3-4 and the players are getting comfortbale with their roles for the past 3 years, and now we have the nerve of entertaining the thought of going backwards?…. um the only reason the giants 4-3 works so well is because they have decisvely fast deamons on the edges, which our personnel doesnt quite match up with. spags is aggresive, but as far as utilizing EVERYBODY’S strengths on the defense….he doesnt have to, between umenyiora and tuck, them in one on one scenarios with someone their size is usually money, we cant say the same. this calls for us going out and spending more money, stressing the draft, and looking for trades, and then players getting a feel for new teammates tendencies and reads, and then having to rebuild a situation that is already good! ..THE PLAYERS ON OUR TEAM DID NOT THRIVE IN THE 4-3!!! ….except for jenkins and ellis did alright but is waaay to slow to play a DE in spags system, they are good where they are! the main ingredient for any core group to thrive is consistency and chemistry, we just need the right person to steer that boat…and i already think you know who i am reffering to…..nuff said

  20. ……………………….so screw everybody else, wait till rex ryan’s interview comes and lets see how long it takes before tanni and woodi get a damn clue and sign him…………….or just give us another reason why it is painful to be a jet fan.

  21. ….with all that off my chest…i feel better now…

  22. WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,WE WANT REX,

  23. New Jet logo

    ABS–ABS*

    ANYBODY BUT SHOTTY

Me-I’m waiting for Kotite. Well never notice any difference from the last 3 years.

  24. Hire Spags so we can go back to the 4-3 and then sign Vilma! There you go haha

  25. Spags isn’t going to want to go from a winning tradition like the Giants to a 2nd class sideshow like the Jets. He may pick the Broncos, that would make some sense, but if not Denver, he may just decide to stay with the Giants and bulk up his resume.

  26. tomlin also went into pittsburg with LeBeu as the DC, there was no way they were changing that D.

    We have Sutton….

  27. so do i

  28. hello any body home

  29. Another week before we get our HC

  30. REX and the Ravens beat the Titans (see where we could have been with a decent HC) without Suggs for most of the game.

    I agree with zartan:

  31. Rex does it again 13-10…..+3 turnover margin Baltimore advances.. WOODY and MIKE T. hope u were watching…

  32. With Baltimore win, this makes the Jets HC search stretch out at least another week. We are all going to have to be patient. Expect some more weird interviews this week as the FO waits for Rex….

  33. It’s not true that we have to wait for him to be out of the playoffs. To the contrary, some reports have him interviewing for us tomorrow. Here’s one:
    http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/ny-spjets105993885jan10,0,3520713.story

  34. Steve
He can interview but I do not think they can offer…anyone know for sure!!

  35. Ryan can not sign any contracts until after Baltimore’s season ends…He’s worth the wait and for anyone who doesn’t think we need a big tall fast wide receiver that can go up and take the ball away from the CB’s turn on the ARIZONA vs CAROLINA game FITZGERALD is torchin them…

  36. Yes, we need an athletic #1 receiver, and I think Antonio Bryant would be perfect. He’s a free agent coming off a breakout season, still a young guy, has had attitude problems in the past but finally seems to have matured and put that behind him. 1248 yards and 7 TDs this season, including a stretch at the end of the season where he had 435 yards and 4 TDs in only 3 games.

  37. BTW, who do the Cardinals think they are right now? Didn’t Brett Favre throw 6 TDs on that defense?

  38. They are NOT who we thought they were
    (sorry, couldn’t resist)

  39. if i had one wish…….fitzgerald would miraculously don a jersey next season……just wishful thinking

  40. i say get coles the hell out

  41. Yeah, I’m with you, Jay. If we could get a second round pick for him I’d take it. Fitz isn’t likely to be available, but Antonio Bryant and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are unrestricted FAs…

  42. I have a strong feeling Arizona will unload BOLDEN this offseason but with all the injuries the question will be is he worth the big money or draft pick they may ask to trade him…

  43. Boldin is more likely to be available via trade.

They can interview Ryan tomorrow, which is very likely, but will have to wait for the Ravens season to be over to offer him a contract. To me this is a no brainer now, after the two most efficient offenses and the two with the best TO ratio (TENN, MIA), and then your able to get 7 turnovers in two games. Grant it the Ravens have alot of talent, but I think alot of this has to do with schemes and coaching. No way if Sutton or anyone else for that matter is the coach of the Ravens D, there nearly as good. Hire Rex Ryan!

  44. I’m not so sure Boldin would be a good fit. He’s more of a run after the catch guy, and I think we need a speedster who can elude or run by defenders, and/or a guy who can win a lot of jump balls. I wouldn’t mind having Boldin though if the price isn’t too high.

  45. On second thought, we already got Keller to be the jump ball in the endzone guy, so a speed guy would be my preference.

  46. you are right steve ill take t.j

  47. Why would we want TJ when we have Coles and Cotchery? All TJ is, is another possession receiver.

  48. true, tj is not much different from coles or cotchery, not really known for creating seperation, down field speed, or making recievers miss. he IS a great reliable reciever, but not the answer for us, just another posssion reciever, as is boldin. boldin can run after the catch like a RB but doesnt really create seperation either. honestly we need an elusive burner if you ask me and/or a BIG body….should i dare say plaxico?lol

  49. damn…….i really hope (REALLY REALY REALY HOPE)…that we have a hidden gem in clowney….like the panthers did in steve smith when he first came on and gradually developed into the player he is today once given the chance. i dont see why clowney cant strive for that, but thats me lookin from the outside in so……

  50. but i knew it! ……………we should have went after bernard berrian when we had the chance, i really cant think of anyone else that is that speed/seperation reciever that the jets can get thier hands on

  51. and to vent a little more…….why in the hell did we give up santana to get coles back?i kno the past is the past but damn….was i the only one mad at this trade?…and does anyone know the contract situations for the likes of andre johnson, lee eveans or a braylon edwards??…im not too sold on antonio bryant, nice break out season, but he’s been on the scene for a while and has yet to prove much besides being a headache, and we see that he has a hard time with “no nonsense” coaches…..and he is too a “possesion reciever”…not much downfield speed, but has good hands.

  52. Spags may be an unsuccessful HC, Spags may be a successful HC. These predictions as to how he will do are all subjective and not based on any facts. There is no “formula: in place to predict how Coordinators of Supr Bowl champs will fare as Head Coaches – with the exception of multi-year coordinators on the Belicheat system – they will fail as they cannot cheat in South Bend of Cleveland like they did in the land of 2 WS titles in 90 years.

  53. RIDINNYWAVE -t.j. housh,bobby engram,devery henderson,shaun mcdonald,hank baskett,jabar gaffney,daunte hall,sam hurd,brandon jone,ashley leslie,koren robison,amani toomer,roydell williams,cedric wilson are all free agents this upcoming season and I think nate washington is also

  54. How about this idea if Favre doesn’t come back:
Reading some of the blogs some of the Panthers fans want Delhomme out of town after one bad game. If for some reason the Panthers do release him I think the Jets should go after him. He has playoff experience and took a team to a Super Bowl a few years ago. Just because he had one bad game doesn’t mean he is a horrible QB, and he’d probably be better than most of the other veteran options out there.

  55. I can’t wait hear the outcome of tomorrow;s interview with Rex Ryan. They won’t announce it (those sly dogs), but will let it leak for an unnamed source. Notice he actually made adjustments in the 2nd half vs the Titans when he lost players and had to react to Tenn’s game plan? What a novel idea!

I have my fingers crossed but I’m afraid Rex is too strong a personality and football man for Mike T and Woody. Instead of letting a football guy run the team on the field (and take the bows at parties for having a winner), they have to mess around with the day to day operation to prove their authority. A real manager gives credit to his workers and enjoys the role he’s had in their success. Let’s see how secure Mike and Woody really are. I want Rex for the Jets, but they’ll never go for it.

  56. just for the record we will not be playing in the new stadium NEXT year. They said they need one more year.

  57. After watching the ravens titans game i am convinced that this man should be our head coach..

    NOTE TO WOODY!!!!!!!!!

    2009 coaching staff

Head coach=Rex Ryan i’ve watched this man and what he has done with the ravens and i’m convinced he is our man and a huge plus is that he is a 3-4 evil mastermind..

Offensive coordinator= Jeff Jagszinski Listen i cant spell his name but he has done some nice things with the bc program he’s trying to get back in the nfl and we cost him his job a big plus is what he did with Matt Ryan at bc maybe he can rub off on one of our younger qb’s and teach them and lets hope ratliff wins the job!!!

Defensive coordinator= Romeo Crenell this man is a defensive coordinator that can gel very well with Rex Ryan in his blitz happy schemes and not have to worry about off the field politics. I personally felt he was a good coach for the browns and The major problem is that orginization as a whole when it comes to medical practice and what not.. I think he was forced to put quinn in by the ownership and the fans and lost the team. He will have his day again as a head coach just not this year.

o-line coach= Bill callaghan I like this guy alot i dont want to lose him so he might actually end up as the offensive coordinator which i hope they just keep him either way but i would still love him to coach the o-line just one more year he did good things with d-brick and erased that bust label.
One more year would make him an all-pro. But proably not going to happen..

special teams coach= mike westhoff He’s The Man nuff said!!

woody needs to get this done asap

  58. Would love to see Rex as our next HC: 1) the only time we ever won a title, a Ryan was on the staff 2) Maybe he brings Brooks, Mattison, or Carrier with him as our next DC – cannot hurt to have more minds on our staff that have contributed to the Ravens D success 3) Seems Rex will not be the type of HC locked into a 3-4 or 4-3 – he will take an approach of putting 11 defensive players in the proper position to make plays

  59. @ gangreen

Good lookin on the info. Devry henderson is quite fast, wouldn’t mind him on the squad, not as a primary tho

  60. “I’ll try to get something put together real quick,” Ryan joked after the game. “I’m just going to be myself anyway. Hopefully I’ll be the guy they want. If not, then that’s fine also.”

Sounds like a man who is saying yes!!!!!

A wink during the interview and the deal can be done….
Let’s hope Woody and Mr. T do not let him get away.

  61. Superbowl 3 I agree…
I would love to see rex ryan here but he may be too much for Woody and Boy Wonder #1 to handle. I feel like Mike T wants a puppet, he’s got to look out for his own a** Which is why I’ve been saying that I think Schott will be the coach. Also don’t they watch film in these interviews? How are Mike Tannenbaum and Woody Johnson going to be able to discuss film with Rex Ryan, C’mon. Can we please get some freakin football people that know what the hell their doing.

  62. Crystalguns,

Your dead on, I was reading the ny dailynews. They said that from “several”league sources, that schotti is the heavy front runner for the job and that the main reason is tanni would rather a younger inexperienced coach that wouldn’t challenge his authority than an older and wiser coach like rex ryan.

But if this is the main factor that goes into this interview and they look past rex ryan for schotti to be their puppet because of their lust for power, …I am officially done witht his team…

I am a true newyorker and I supprt my teams, but I cannot support a team that is run by a bunch of people who put their ego before the success of their franchise. And that hurts. Tanni and woody can take their PSL’s and shove it up their @$$ if they mess this up.

First the knicks and now the jets??….I swear I think some of these team owners and gm’s are trying to run us fans outta town.

  63. only thing i dont like about the 3-4 is that we rely so much on one player…the nose tackle, this year jenkins broke down and the defense went down with him…we either need more depth at that position or i wouldnt mind a 4-3 change take the load off of jenkins and let him play a role like haynesworth did.

  64. JA,

I understand your conern for kris jenkins health. I also must add that there’s no reason to doubt that a man of his stature can’t handle the load of playing a NT, ecspecially with better utilization and scheming, like ryan did with Ngata. But I really think it wouldn’t have been so stressing on jenkins if useless loads like kenyon coleman were able to create more penetration, but we’ll see what happens regarding the coaching and players.

  65. after this season and the rest of jenkins career there is no reason for me to think that he can hold up at nose tackle….i feel like its just putting oto many eggs in one basket, maybe your right about the other lineman giving him no help but thats all we have right now…Ngata is also alot younger than jenkins…but yeah the truth is not even JOE.S knows whos going to be a good coach.

  66. {Mel31602… Reading some of the blogs some of the Panthers fans want Delhomme out of town after one bad game. If for some reason the Panthers do release him I think the Jets should go after him. He has playoff experience and took a team to a Super Bowl a few years ago.}

LISTEN UP JET FANS……. NO MORE RETREAD QBs !!!!!!

    NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Develope you’re own for once!!!!!!!

Develope one you have drated or will Draft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am SICK of the RETREAD QB’s…. Their loses!!!!! and their RETREADS for a REASON…. They SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO TEAM with a REAL Franchise QB ever lets that QB go!!!! They let them go because they SUCK or are WASHED UP!!!!!

    NO MORE…. THAT IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let the QB’s currently on the Jets Battle it out for the Starting job or Draft a new one and develop him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  67. Joe S.

I was thinkin the same exact thing, why in the hell do some fans have a mentality in which we love snooping around in other peoples garbage as if we are homeless? Why in the hell would we go after derek anderson and delhomme when we have 2 qb’s that haven’t even gotten a chance to prove themselves?

Learn to make a name for yourself and not off of someone elses garbage, I guess when any team has somone who starts to play garbage, we can count on the jets to pick em up and try and get whatever they have left (favre). Let’s give our homegrown treaures a chance to blossom, last one didn’t turn out so bad (pennington). Stop lookin for chemistry disruptions, strangers to the team that are average at best. What can delhomme and derek anderson bring to this team that ratliff and possibly clemens aren’t capable of? Who cares about past experiences, for delhomme? That’s team efforts, he hasn’t proved a thing to me AT ALL, and neither has anderson! If anything, haven’t some of you fans learned anything from the patriots their developement of cassel? ……or were you the same ones saying we should have went after him if he was a FA? I swear, when some fans go through loosing stretches, they tend to have no spine!

  68. ridinmywave…. thanks for the support on this. You NAILED your explanation. Great job!

I encounter Jet Fans who want other Teams Garbage QB’s all the time and it drives me crazy!!!!!

If New England thought like this…. Tom Brady and Matt Cassel would still be unknown back-up QB’s somewhere in the NFL and I don’t think Matt would be on any NFL team. Remember he was a back-up QB in college.
