If Schotty is still on this team in any position besides QB Coach, that is when I pass my judgement on Tanny/Woody as two monkeys just tryna fit in.

On Boland's bog today:

"... I remember meeting Ryan last summer – coincidentally at Eric Mangin’s charity football camp – and him saying the Jets had always been a special franchise to him. Ryan’s father, Buddy, as most of you know, joined Weeb Ewbank's defensive staff in 1968 and coached in that season’s Super Bowl. [Super Bowl III "

Sincerity?

(1) The HC NYJ's position certainly wasn't up for grabs last summer.

(2) Nobody was twisting Rex's
arm to appear at Mangini's charity event.

(3) He doesn't come across as a BS artist.

So...on the whole I'd take his comment at face value.

Given all the 3-4 defensive players the Jets have assembled, this is a deal that makes sense for both sides.

If so, perhaps the necessary winks and nods were duly recorded by cameras kindly lent by the Patriots' during the 5-hour interview session on Sunday.

If the Ryan brothers really want to coach with each other, suspect the Jets might want to poke a stick through Mangini's bicycle spoke by asking Rob Ryan if he would be interested in being the Jets defensive coordinator if certain things happened to work out down the road.

Now, that would be sending a real signal...

Good points Bassett, hopefully the Jets do not hire a coach this week, which would point all signs being towards Ryan. I do not think he is a savior of any kind but is the best of whats out there and fits with what the Jets have in personnel on defense. Making Spags the HC will be a head scratcher, if he makes the Jets D switch back to a 4-3., it will set the team back another year or 2.

Everybody is a rex ryan expert…..does anyone have any ideas on his offensive ties in the league….cause as far as i’m concerned the ravens offense has sucked ever since they moved from cleveland…..even their super bowl year……is schotty a shoe in to lead the offense?….is that why they like rex so much??…..anyone have any ideas?}

Brian Billick was supposed to be the offensive guru! How did that work out??? Billick fans for Jet HC are in la la land!

hire rex ryan for hc of the ny jets!

wait for him and make him an offer he can't refuse!

TOON2388, i explained that two weeks ago and you guy's don't want me keep repeating myself.

Spags is a NY Media creation and was only DC for 2 years.

Ryan... Football is in his blood (NY Jet Super Bowl Blood). Been a coach on the Raven defense for 10 years (DC & DL Coach) and that defense has been great for 10 years. Knows how to get the most out of a 3 - 4 defense personnel which is what the Jets have. If you go back to a 4 - 3... the defense will be average at best for at least 3 years because the Jets will be in CAP Hell while converting.

Any other questions?

nyckage, i may be wrong but im pretty sure it was announced Rob Ryan is now with mangini and the browns.

I like Spags, I dont like the thought of going back to the 4-3 because then all we have down to revamp the def has been for naught. Also it would make me upset that we got rid of Vilma due to him not fitting in a 3-4 only to revert less than a year later.

Bassett
Is there any chance that Rob Ryan might come to New York if the Jets sign his brother from the same mother. If not who do you think it's going to be? Will it be a guy from Baltimore, or can it be Crennel?

And I'm not sold on Ryan even though out of all the guys the Jets interviewed, he is by far the most equipped for the job.

Knowing what I know about Tannenbaum, he's not going to voluntarily walk out of any job. I have to imagine that he'll do whatever it takes to stay in his place, but i think he knows he's on shaky ground. tannenbaum has to realize that even though he's done some good things, he's got a good gig that will be hard for him to come by anywhere else in the league.

i think that tannenbaum is looking for someone who can win, but i think he's also looking for someone who he can keep control of ... someone like cowher would pose a serious threat to his relevance ... a first time coach though ... he'd need the personnel help.
