No Other Interviews for Schotty?
I know Bassett put a moratorium on this coaching stuff, but I found this interesting..
Food for thought at the bottom of this Rich Cimini article, regarding Jets offensive coordinator and head coaching candidate Brian Schottenheimer.
“Schottenheimer, the continuity candidate, hasn’t interviewed with any other team.”
No other team? Not one? You’re telling a man who was a hot coaching candidate BOTH of the past two seasons hasn’t at least had one other interview with one of other SIX teams that have been looking for new head coaches? A guy who was a finalist (maybe only in name only) for the Dolphins job last season hasn’t gotten a sniff?
What does that say about his stock this time around the coaching circuit? And what does it say that Woody and Co. are considering him for the Jets post (how much depends on who you talk to/read)?
And the Jets coaching circuit goes round and round.. (Sorry, Bassett)

He’s a Schmuck.
If he becomes our HC it will only be because we dont get Defence-asourus Rex. And he will hold us over till we try for Cowher again.
No other interviews says a lot. Not even Detroit? almost laughable!
Tells you what the rest of the league thinks of this guy, considering there are not any “big” name coaches out there. There will be no justifying hiring Schotty, none period.
If Schotty is still on this coaching staff.. I QUIT as a JETS FAN because nothing has been as embarrassing throughout my 20 year fanhood than the imcompetence of Woody & Company if they decide to keep him. Why fire Mangini if Schotty is not hacked with him
I love how everyone knows who will make a good coach and who will be terrible when even these teams have no idea. Look when you hire a coach, unless you are getting one of the Bills you are basically rolling the dice. I’m not saying I want Schotty as head coach, I don’t, but to act as if we know for sure its a bad decision is off base.
ummm did you watch the 2008 season, RK?
Why is Schotty getting so much blame for last season? I want Rex Ryan as the next coach, but why is Schotty being trashed and thrown apart. The Jets were 3rd in the NFL in points. Schotty had Chad in his first 2 years as OC and then had to deal with Favre and his INTs. If he had input in drafting Clemens, then I would have some negative comments about him. Until he is the HC of the team, u can’t really judge him.
It’s different when ur the OC of a team versus the HC of the team. I believe Mangini had input on some offensive strategies which was inputted by Daboll (The new Offensive Coordinator of the Cleveland Browns!) Not very surprising and Bill Callahan – West Coast guru brought in by Mangini.
I’m not a big fan of Schotty either if they had a choice between him and Ryan but give the guy a break
Cherbookie,
I did watch the 2008 season (every down)…do u blame everything on Schotty???? I sure don’t. What about the Defense who couldn’t get off the field and made Shaun Hill and Seneca Wallace look like Pro-Bowlers? What about the QB who had 2 TDs and 9 INTs in the last 5 games. What about the D-Coordinator and Head Coach who had terrible schemes versus subpar Offenses?
Listen, I’m not saying Schotty had no blame at all. He let Brett Favre dictate his offense by putting the ball in his hands too often and not running the ball enough. Also, Keller and Leon had a major disappearing act the last 5 games. Schotty deserves some of the blame. The man who got fired, Mangini, was the one who deserves to go for the debacle.
As Chrebookie said if you watched the 2008 season you know why nobody wants shotty….and i as well will retire as a die hard jet fan if he is hired…..well ill try at least
HC????…no….but as our OC for next year, i really dont mind, as long as he learns to be more diverse with the players we have and not be so damn predictable…….for ex. how about thomas and leon on the field together…..not once did i ever see a 2 rb set. after a while those leon screen passes and brad smith wild cat plays were as obvious as snow in january. why did we we see stuckey and keller every now and then? why didnt he use richardson in plays more often?(they always worked)…..but these are all learning experiences…and you have to give him a chance to learn from his mistakes and get more accustomed to our offensive weapons….with that said…we’ll see how and IF he plays things next season…but as a HC??…..i dont think so…not yet at least, he needs to learn “in-game adjustments” in case to be a head coach, clearly something he struggles with.
His play calling was pathetic this year. Short pass plays and screens were figured out then never changed. We never seemed to have a back-up plan.
I’m sure mangini pulled back Schott’s creative genious but come on.How many times did T. Jones and Washington break off decent runs then we would go back to lame screens.
Perfect example- Oakland game. Horrid offensive game plan.
and as for the 2008 season…..we scored over 400 points….the most we have in YEARS!……not too shabby…so cherbookie, what was your point again?
how many of those pts came after the Tenn game?
thats my point…. no adjustments, no creativity
you gonna blame that on Favre’s arm? if he was so great why didnt he of all people, the OC (i mean its his *ss right?) take out favre?
and it CHREBOOKIE
Chrebet + Bookie= Chrebookie
if he persist with the predictable foolishness, then i say look else where…..but you guys cant act like for every questionable call he put out there, there were alot of good ones. for instance, when we start games…..our first drives are unstoppable, but then the aggresiveness and moving the ball on the ground tend to get lost….and i think it was to cater to favre’s liking to be honest….so now that the old gun slinger is no longer an issue, lets see how shotti plays his cards, i mean he DID do well before faver got here…..
sorry about the spelling fam
103 of those pts were scored in two games!
Shott did well in 2006 when it was wheels off and any goes. Also we played a weak schedule.
2007, well we know how that went
2008, well we know how that went also
CHrebookie,
U think if Schotty told Mangini to take out Favre, it would have happened? Are u insane….Woody would have gone crazy – then replace Favre with Clemens..I don’t see ur reasoning for that one.
I would give him another year without Favre and see what his progressions were with Clemens and Ratliff. Maybe if the young QB is starting, they will be forced to run alot and throw short passes to Leon and Keller.
I wish we had Chrebet out there at WR too
3rd most points is a nice achievement….look at the Cards D in the playoffs and we put up 56 points against them without breaking a sweat. They are in the Championship game now.
2007 – no O-Line, hurt QB, McCareins was still here unfortunately
I’m on the “give Schotty a break” side too. He still seems to have potential as a OC and even as a HC. I think he just couldn’t deal with changing his entire offensive gameplan from a power running style to a throwing style when Favre arrived. I’d rather Spags or Ryan over Schotty but it’s not like they’d be hiring Rich Kotitie here…
and come on…lets be real with our selves…wherever favre goes he HAS to be accomodated. throughout the stupid media circus and expectations surrounding the whole favre arrival, and then the backlash after we rushed 3 times in the redzone and still failing to score in the first patriot game…you think anybody was willing to pull favre or deprive him of doing what he wants to do for the rest of the season.?? i think both YOU and I would have pulled favre…….but you know it doesnt work like that, and this past season was a business and marketiing scheme. Now that we can move on, nobody’s hands are tied when it comes to people being accountable for making certain players happy and we can do what this team was built for and not have to worry about recieving backlash from ownership, media, and old packer fans for not accomodating a style to play to a CERTAIN players strengths.
ESPN says that Shotty had a great interview at Nassau Community College and is the number 1 candidate.
chrebookie…..goodel himself couldnt take favre out a game, and you expect schotti to grow balls that large all of a sudden???
and F.Y.I ,he cant make that call, its mangini who would have to do the unspeakable, and unfortunately it cost him his job…….he should send a thank you letter to brett, lmao
lol @ jas
that would be music to my ears for some reason, lmao
Mel-
Not like Kotite?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm……
Sure looked like it.
Jas,
Just as a warning I was too young to really remember Kotite but from what I’ve heard he was horrible as a head coach in one place but then the Jets got him anyway. We have no evidence that Schotty will be a horrible head coach since he’s never been one at all.
JAS,
lol I think Kotite might win that job though. I’m on the Rex Ryan bandwagon though
1 Ryan
2 Grimm
3 Schotty
4 Spags
I think Schotty would a better job than Spags…overhaul of the entire D is not feasible with cap restricted players
Exactly, there is no way of knowing how good or bad a coach is. I don’t think any of us is smart enough or knows enough about football to say that the way this offense played was the O-coordinators fault solely. Remember they built this offense for running the ball and a short passing game with Chad. Favre came in and changed everything. Don’t just forget about all that.
Who knows how much control Favre was given by the coaching staff to dictate to Schotty how things should run. All I’m saying is things aren’t as cut and dry and many people seem to think it is.
Frank- as for the cards, any given sunday my friend. Do they beat the panther 8 out of 10 times? Then they just a 1 and out team.
where were the pts agains the broncos? San fran? or oak-town? no td’s in Seattle?
so you tell me the lack of offensive production was all favre’s fault?
and the 2007 was ALL mccariens fault?
YOU HAVE TO PLAY WITH THE CARDS YOU ARE DEALT. NO EXCUSES
2007 was everyones fault….
Seattle and San Fran were terribly played games on Defense. in Oakland, I will put the blame on the offense and Schotty. Denver was just a bad game for the entire team in general
RK
“Remember they built this offense for running the ball and a short passing game with Chad. Favre came in and changed everything. Don’t just forget about all that.”
as i remember we didnt go down field all that often. i remeber a heck of a lot of short passes, and not much running this season! and when the running was working we were throwing it! oh yeah that must have been to appease favre.
anyway i gotta go-
meeting up with my buddy Brett to drink some Pabst and eat some cheese curds to discuss how we can throw the 2009 season. Just to keep him happy!
Does anyone think maybe, just maybe Johnson made Shotty an offer and he’s sticking arround to get some type of resolution? There has not been any final word yet on his interview and supposedly he impressed highly and was considered a top candidate.
SO, WHY ALL THE BASHING ?????
does anyone find it funny that MANGINI didnt even think/want to take him to CLEVELAND!????
We need Rex Ryan its time to stop the bleeding with our defense…Whats the best offense…lol…a good defense…Dont let em score on ya so u dont have to put up 30 points a game…LETS step back and take a look is SCHOTTY better on offense than RYAN is on defense…I think not….SCREW the interview process its what is shown out on the field each week…RYAN could be a deaf mute in the interview and just show game footage to prove he is a better coach than SCHOTTY….
k.c.
We don’t know what goes on in the ivory tower. Schotty is still considered high on the list of those interviewed. Lets see what happens after the Ravens finish their season.
YOU think Schotty is a GOOD oc??
KC, you know why Schotty isn’t with mangini in CLEVELAND because SCHOTTY CANT develope a young QB and Quinn needs some good tutoring..and throwing on 4th short yardage didn’t help SCHOTTY make it to CLEVLAND either…
k.c.:
I’ve stating from Aug. 5th on many, many reasons why Farve was a huge mistake. One of the reasons I’ve been screaming out was that he was the catalyst for our dysfuntional offense. Of course the coaches were blamed for it. Farve worshipers refused to blame their idol.
i do give you credit…you said it from the beggining that getting Favre was wa bad move
You guys can all hold hands, and sing in unison, “It’s All Favre’s Fault”, until you’re blue in the face!!! Simpletons A Plenty Here!!! Favre was absolutely horrible in the last 5 games, Obviously, but you’re diluting yourselves if you’re gonna put all the blame at his feet!!! It’s a team sport, and “EVERYONE” in that locker room was too blame for the collapse!!!
I dont know about anyone else, but I feel completely drained!!! I still can’t believe how this season ended for us!!! I mean, 8-3, and I felt like we were a team with a purpose, with Super Bowl dreams, and then the bottom dropped out, with little, or no warning!!! I keep asking myself, over, and over, and over again……WHY??? Was it coaching? Was it Favre? Was it our Defense? Was it Special Teams? I think, Yes too all of them……..BUT WHY??? I mean, It’s not like we suffered significant injuries, or anything!!! So then, WHY??? I never believed in curse’s, but I’m starting too feel like this franchise is “Destined Too Suck, For The Rest Of My Life”!!!! I guess it’s like, Kermit: the frog always said…..”IT’S NOT EASY BEING GREEN”!!!
TWENTY TWO INTERCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????
but you’re right….it wasnt ALL his fault.
largebarge:
In my previous post I said ……’ he was the catalyst for our dysfuntional offense’. The word here is CATALYST.
I can sit here and give you many reasons to support my argument, but in order to spare everyone the agony I will give you one:
You agreed that he was “absolutely horrible the last five games”…….well, the team collapsed in THE LAST FIVE GAMES !! Why? Because he could not get us a TD when we desperately needed one.He was NOT a clutch QB for us. In fact, he was abysmal.
Blame Shotty/Mangini playcalling?, really?
In the last three plus months( thirteen weeks) he did NOT score a touchdown in the fourth (4th) quarter.
Farve does not play well when trailing. In fact he NEVER won a game when trailing by 14 or more points!!!
Do you still want to blame the coaches?
http://www.nypost.com/seven/01132009/sports/jets/spagnuolo__ryan_finalists_for_job_149940.htm
According to this link Schotty will be the OC, not the HC, and either Spags or Ryan will be the HC. They seem to prefer Ryan but dont’ want to wait until after the Super Bowl for fear of losing out on staff.
kc, i don’t like shotty much either. but him going to cleveland as OC wasn’t really an option, as NFL rules prohibit an assistant coach under contract leaving his team for a new team unless there is a promotion involved. since he would just be OC, there wouldn’t be a promotion involved.
Corey,
not a moratorium … just needed a bit of a break! :)
Would like to see Ryan as HC. Love the Blood lines.
Would also be fine with Schotty staying on as OC. Good continuity. At time his offense has been innovative. Favre screwed it all up this year. Give Schotty another chance at OC.
Whatever the lill Schotty fans are smoking…..
You guys must have been smoking smothing when you were watching the Jets games.. First off, some of the worst play calls by our offense in the last 3 years with Schotty as OC. His failure to incorporate Leon, Keller, TJ, Coles, and Cotch was a disgrace.
Combined with the fact that he ran a Chad offense with Brett Favre and his inability to adjust during games…
Besides, what does this guy bring to the table? Schotty use to be a Qb coach in San Diego and was made OC for the Jets. What can he teach anyone?
You guys are nuts. I think some of you guys enjoy bringing pain and agany up urseleves. You will set yourself up for a huge disappointment if lil Schotty is our HC.
The only reason to keep Schott is a practical one — having the other Qbs who don’t have jeans commercials audition for the job based on the offense that they know already with the same coordinator.
Lets make it short and to the point the guy sucks! he has no imagination, no creativity, no adjustment. he sucks! we all know it, other Teams know it, the reason he has NO interviews is because No one wants him simple!! every game i watched this season i knew what was coming almost every play, if i knew it, what do you think the DC of the Teams we played was thinking. I am not here to find excuses for Schotty as a Jets fan for many years i am the one who needs an excuse to keep watching them make asses of themselves and if Schotty stays the Jets will continue to do just that…….. make an ass of themselves.
Schotty has no interview’s???????? NO S**T who the heck wants him.
