Multiple news outlets (read into that what you want) are reporting that Steve Spagnuolo did meet with team owner Woody Johnson and GM Mike Tannenbaum on Tuesday at the Jets owner’s Manhattan office. According to the source, Spagnuolo is still a candidate for the Jets head coaching vacancy but that the search for a new head coach has not yet been concluded.
This meeting was of course scheduled for Johnson to meet Spagnuolo, who was on vacation when the Giants’ Defensive Coordinator first met with the Jets on Jan. 3.

I’m pretty sure the Jets have made up their mind up about not going back to the 4-3 with Spags, but there is always a chance Spags could have made a huge impression on Woody and also take into account Mike is an idiot, I don’t know if this guy will fail or not, but I am against going back to the 4-3 when we just got the right personnel in for the 3-4 with the exception of an ILB next to Harris
If we do sign him, I can promise you within the next 5 yrs we will get a new HC who runs the 3-4, and then we have to get rid of our 4-3 guys whom we just got and draft 3-4 guys
Can we atleast keep a scheme for more than 7 years plz

Can someone please tell me why did we quit on Shannahan ?
We get unbelievably lucky to have the 3rd or 4th best head coach of his generation just fall out of the sky, days after we fire our coach …….( I am scared to continue writing) and we fumble the ball again ? We should finally say that we had enough coordinators offensive and defensive come and go, and that another is more than we can take before going the other way.Mike Shanny pluses
1.immediate respectability
2. if Kellen Clemens or Brett Ratlif are worth anything he will know immediately and move accordingly.
3. he will cut Brett Favre – check Jerry Rice
4. we will have a rock solid running game
5. only coach in NFL to have winning record against Bill Belichick.
6. has the owner who will spend much more to improve the team than Denver owner did.Right?

Defense wins championships!

3-4 or 4-3 spags was still not as good a defensive coordinator than rex ryan, with just 2 yrs under his belt and a working with two deamons off the edges, I wouldn’t compare his wit with ryan’s any day. Yes, the ravens have solid members on that defense, but none were naturally this good and attribute most of their success to rex ryans scheming.
-
Shanahan?? Nah, we wouldn’t compete for a while and that wouldnt address any wholes in our team at this present time? The jets hiring shanahan is like the knicks hiring D’antoni, lol.
It aint a popularity conetest, its who is best and fits the mold of the team at that given point. I respect and like shanahan as a coach, but he doesn’t mesh in well with what we are trying to do and our defense is already suspect, and we would have to go back to the 4-3 because of shanahan’s stubborness when it comes to DC’s. Its not as if he’s a defensive guru, if anything his defenses are usually terrible, but he IS an offensive genius. But not what we are lookin for.

GREENBLOOD,
Who cares about the name when it comes to repsectability? That’s just for media hype. We brought favre in and that respectability didn’t sought out too well. Wins get respectabilty. No one needs to cut favre, he will cut himself. Our run game was already respectable and rex ryan implicated that he’s a big believer in a good run game, and as far as beating bellichick who cares? We don’t need someone to flame patriot rivalries, we want a leader of men who can help us utilize our weapons and put them in a position to be effective.
-
ridinmywave, couple of bones to pick with you. Are you by any chance employed by the franchise or have stocks? Alow me to quote you: “best and fits the mold of the team at that given point.” , “doesn’t mesh in well with what we are trying to do” (we who, you and woody ore George Bush?), “not what we are lookin for” and I saved best for last “we want a leader of men who can help us utilize our weapons and put them in a position to be effective” – wow, very Aisenhower like.
Please elaborate on “favre will cut himself”. What ,2 maybe 3 years of this?
Would you 5 years ago want Marvin Lewis out of Baltimore? Hell yeah, Right? How about today, care for some Marv?
-
Good news- Schefter is reporting the Rams will hire their coach this weekend, which pretty much puts Ryan out of the running. Looks like their fave is Frazier from the Vikings. That means the Jets are all alone with Ryan…
-
One more list for you:
Pete Carol, Rich Kotite, Al Groh, Herman “play to win the game” Edwards, Eric Mangini.
Other than the fact they weren’t head coaches prior to coaching the Jets, they have another thing in common, they haven’t done much since (Carol, ok if you insist).
-
Greenblood,
If you took offense on my eveluation of your opinion, that’s one thing. But no need to be a smartalic, you know what I mean by “we”. I’ll make sure to slow it up and put “the jets” so you can comprehend faster.
So what? Shanahan is the only person in this world to stand up to favre? He told you this? All I was saying is that shanahan wouldn’t fix any issues on this team at this given time. You gave lame points on your logic and have yet to refute that. No one raved about marvin lewis’ defensive scheming, I kno the history with him and ryan, but that’s irrelivant. -
So you got those list of coaches from your tarrot cards and r psychic readings on what that holds for rex ryan’s future? All the coaches started somwhere from coordinator jobs and all got hired for a reason and got fired for a reason as well. So your point being????
-
You sound rattled a bit. It might influence your writing. Gather yourself and tell me what is lame. Give me best 5 coaches in last 20 years, and why. Look at the records as well.
-
1. Shannahan coached in Oakland got fired worked for years as coordinator than went to coach Denver – result 2 title.
2.Bellichick Coached Cleveland, got fired, years as coordinator then went to New England – result 3 titles out of 4 Super Bowls.
3.Tony Dungy, Coached, got fired, hired then won the TITLE
4.Tom Coughlin coached Jax fired, hired won the TITLE
5. John Gruden Coach OAK, fired, hired TB won the TITLE
6. Dick Vermiel coached , fired, hired won once and would have twice instead of Marz, and should’ve in KCNeed more ?

Greenblood
Rattled?? Easy fam, its just bloggin….. and why go down a list of coaches that have nothin to with the matter at hand? So I guess your implying that shannahan is one of the best 5 coaches of all time??
That my friend is your opinion, and you can tell him how you feel when you meet him. I will say that he had a good run with elway at the helm and davis and rod smith puttin in work, those were good days. I used to love watchin them, but but since they have all left, what have the broncos accomplished???…nothing. Ecspecially the last couple of years. I do agree that qb’s thrive in his systems like plummer, elway, and cutler, but everything els has been suspect and since shanahan felt nothing was wrong and was content with his defensive coaches and coordinators, that spelled doom. What worked with the players you had before doesn’t necessarily work with what you have now. You have to make adjustments.
So implore you to rattle me once more and explain your point besides your love affair for shanahan…. -
Adam Schefter (NFL NETWORK) is reporting that Leslie Frazier DC of the Vikings,is the front runner for the Rams job. The announcement could be made official in the next 48 hours. Also, WR Percy Harvin has declared, but fellow gator LB Brandon Spikes will stay at Florida.
-
Crimson,
Yeah, I heard about Harvin but I was really lookin forward to a chance at getting Brandon Spikes, that guy is a beast!
He would be an easy replacement and upgrade from an eric barton. -
thanks for the news, saw that on schefter’s blog … cheers
