Here’s a segment from last night’s Geico SportsNite covering the latest on the Jets news on interviewing Spags earlier this week, plus a debate on if they can win with Favre.

It’s the NFL, 1-15 teams win their division the following year, 4-8 teams host playoff games and 8-7 teams host the NFC Championship. Every team is win now.

I May be in the minority, but I would like brett back. With a different o coordinator and some tall speedy wrs I think brett would be great. Just one man’s opinion.
-
Yeah lets spend more money tailoring the team for a guy who helped lead a collapse.

I’d be real surprised if Favre decides to come back. If he does and he has a real off-season (working out, learning the playbook, getting more familiar with his TEs and WRs), I think he’s still the Jets’ best option at QB. But, if he wants to hang in MS, then come up for training camp…no way. I’m also disturbed by this Derek Anderson talk. I like Anderson, but don’t the Jets need to see how KC and Ratliff play before they overpay for an unknown quantity? I’ll say it again. I’d rather sign Leftwich as a veteran option. He’ll be cheaper and, IMO, he could be much better and he’s only 29.

Lgs,
What a press conference for your boy sanchez, huh? No encouragement…..no faith? Lol, that must have been one of the most embarassing things I’ve seen in a while, lololol

good point on leftwich….i always liked him coming out of marshall and some of the things he did in jacksonville. any time he comes in for big ben in pittsburgh he plays really well. if ryan comes in as head coach i dont know how familiar he is with clemens and ratliff…clemens did play pretty well against the ravens last year and if # 81 mcdroppins didnt screw it up we might have beat rex and his ravens d…i wonder if thats enough for ryan to consider giving him and ratty a shot or if he’ll bring someone in thats proven they can win in this league….
pennington then leftwich at marshall and pennington then leftwich for the jets. anderson is a one year wonder. either lefty ratty or clemens

Farve will NEVER attend OTA’s.
-
oh yea….as for quarterbacks in my previous quote…..as long as its not brett favre i’ll be happy. i’d rather have ray lucas in there than him….imagine that…ray lucas had a better winning percentage for the jets than brett favre did.

I am all about Jake Delhomme for cheap, he had one bad game in the playoffs, but he also have 3 really good games in the playoffs the year they made the superbowl, he is only 34.
-
Jake Delhomme will be a free agent this year.
-
If you remember the first few weeks of the season during all the player and coach interviews the bottom line was how good Brett Farve was for the team. – Ok I get that and agree he was a sure upgrade from Chad, (See the Cardinals game when he tied Joe Namath’s TD record even though it should have been broken).
Then for some reason everything downward spiraled. – Ok we will never truly know what caused the downward spiral if it was due to injury, Brett being a club-house cancer, Coaching Staff, play calling Jenks during the game taking a time out to go to the concession stand to buying ice cream for Pouha and himself)?
Like it or not Brett Farve will be 40 next year, regardless if you like him or not. It doesn’t matter how well conditioned a person is, and as we all know as you get older the body doesn’t work like it once did.
Lets not forget that the body of the QB (who is usually never in motion) gets beat-up more often then any other player on the field due to sacks, tackles, and knock downs.
If we look at the free agents for 2009 I think Kerry Collins is the best choice, and he does know how to play in the NY market.

If I was the new coach of the Jets, I would not like to start out with a QB who might play one year for me. I would rather go with one of the young Jet QBs. All three can play. If it doesn’t work out, there are plenty of good QB’s coming out in 2010.
If I was Tannenbaum, I would like this, because it would free me up to make moves to bolster the D-backfield, WR, the pass rush, and the O-Line. He has to look for a punter, as well.
Favre is done — take him off the grill.

10 reason not to bring Brett back 1)cap hit 2)not willing to study and learn the playbook,3)He’s not the future of this franchise why we wasting time unless we are still in win now at all costs mode4)if he does comeback will we have the same issue at this time next year 5) He’s not a good leader(pre game speech/never seen him on the sidelines trying to fire up the team) or no one was willing to follow his lead this year,6)He over shadows the entire team 7)He thinks he’s still in his 20′s 8)NO locker room chemistry 9)Somehow he lost the ability to play in the cold 10)He’s a pick 6 monster and dont think REX is willing to put up with his (stick in the sand) football mentality….

Still not sure how I feel about Favre. If he’s commited to the cause, I guess I’d be alright with it. But I would really like to see Clemens get another shot with a real o-line and a real coaching staff.
-
Leftwich is Chad with a bigger arm.I’ll take it.Clemens is a bum.I want to see what Ratliff can do cause he looks like he has potential.Even Erik Ainge looks better than Glenn foley sorry i mean Clemmens.

FOR ALL THOSE CALLING FOR LEFTWICH READ THIS>>>>>>>>>>
At the 2003 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens agreed to a trade to move the Ravens into position to take Leftwich with Minnesota’s 7th overall selection. However, one of the teams had second thoughts at the last minute and the Vikings missed the allotted time for their pick. As a result, they defaulted the selection and were dropped to 9th. The Jaguars, originally supposed to draft 8th, moved up and took Leftwich with the 7th overall pick.[edit] Jacksonville Jaguars
Leftwich took over as the Jaguars starting quarterback in game four of his rookie year after Mark Brunell was injured in the previous week’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. For the first 11 games of the 2005 regular season, Leftwich was developing into the quarterback the Jaguars believed he would become when they picked him in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He obtained a passer rating of 89.3, ninth-best in the NFL, and a 3:1 touchdown:interception ratio (15:5).
However in the regular season against the Arizona Cardinals, Leftwich suffered a broken ankle after being sacked by Cardinals’ safety Adrian Wilson on the first play of the game. Leftwich missed the remaining five games of the regular season. He returned against the New England Patriots in the AFC Wild Card round of the playoffs. The Patriots won 28-3.
Leftwich entered his fourth NFL season as the Jaguars starting quarterback, but without veteran wide receiver Jimmy Smith, who suddenly retired in May 2006. Leftwich led the Jaguars to victories on national television in consecutive weeks against the favored Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers to begin the 2006 season. Leftwich suffered an ankle injury in a week 4 loss to the Washington Redskins. Following a week 6 loss to the Houston Texans, Leftwich had surgery to repair the ankle, which effectively ended his season.
David Garrard replaced Leftwich for the remainder of the season. In his first seven games as Leftwich’s replacement, Garrard led the Jaguars to five wins and two losses and an 8-5 record through thirteen games in the season. Garrard’s and the team’s success in Leftwich’s absence led to speculation that the Jaguars may seek to replace Leftwich permanently with Garrard. However, the Jaguars lost the three final games of the season, preventing the team from making the playoffs. Garrard struggled during the final three games. He threw three interceptions and fumbled once in a 24-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans, whose offense had struggled throughout the game mustering only 98 total yards of offense to the Jaguars’ 396. Three of the turnovers were returned for touchdowns, accounting for 21 of the Titans’ 24 points. [2] The Jaguars lost their following two games against the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs. In the final game of the season, Garrard’s ineffectiveness prompted Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio to replace Garrard with backup Quinn Gray.
In February 2007, Del Rio publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Leftwich, formally naming him as the team’s starter over Garrard and Gray. If the team had been favoring Garrard after the first seven games of the season, his unfavorable performance in the final three games almost certainly led to reaffirmation of Leftwich.
After observing Leftwich’s and Garrard’s performances throughout the 2007 preseason, in the week preceding the first regular season game of 2007 Del Rio named Garrard the team’s starter and declared that Leftwich would be either cut or traded.[3] The Jaguars cut Leftwich on September 1, 2007.
[edit] Atlanta Falcons
On September 17, 2007, Leftwich was flown out to Atlanta to meet with Atlanta Falcons officials, citing a possible signing with the team.[4] On September 18, Leftwich signed a two year deal with the Falcons with escalators attached that could make the deal worth up to $7 million.Leftwich entered the season as a backup to starter Joey Harrington. After replacing Harrington late in Week 5, Leftwich got the start in Week 7 and played very well, before having to leave the game with an ankle sprain. He got the start again in Week 11 after returning from his injury. Harrington regained his starting position and Leftwich did not play again. On February 15, 2008, he was released by the Falcons. He worked out for the Tennessee Titans in July.
[edit] Pittsburgh Steelers
On August 10, 2008, Leftwich was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a one-year deal after Pittsburgh’s backup Charlie Batch was injured in a pre-season game.[5][6] The contract was worth $645,000 and included a $40,000 signing bonus.[7] Leftwich started the 2008 season as the back-up quarterback to Ben Roethlisberger. “I’m the guy sitting in the bullpen,” he stated prior to the first game of the 2008 season, “if something were to happen, I have to go out there.”[8] He played in the Steelers season opener against the Houston Texans and went 0-for-4 in the 38-17 win. He also played against the Philadelphia Eagles in a Week 3 15-6 loss, going 4-for-7 for 60 yards. In the Week 7 match-up against the Cincinnati Bengals, he went 3-for-3 for 34 yards and a touchdown in the 38-10 victory. In Week 9, Leftwich took over for an injured Ben Roethlisberger in the second half of a Monday night game against the Washington Redskins and ended up going 7-for-10 for 129 yards and scoring on a 5 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Santonio Holmes, which resulted in a 23–6 win for the Steelers. In the AFC Divisional game against San Diego, Leftwich went 0/1 and had 4 rushing attempts for -2 yards. -
LEFTWICH IS A FIRST ROUND BUST…..INJURY PRONE AND NON EFFECTIVE….

I like Brett and who knows maybe he has some magic left in that arm, but for the team’s chemistry and the cap’s sake, I would rather have him retire. Let Ratliff or Clemens start and play to protect the ball. May be draft Sanchez, but make him hold a clipboard for the first year. I think Sanchez will be the best QB out of this class in the long run, as long as they sit him on the bench for the first one or two years. If you don’t or can’t draft Sanchez this year, and Ratliff and Clemens really suck, you could always go for Sam Bradford the following year.
Hopefully, we will hire Rex Ryan and be able to rely on the defense as our strength. If we don’t draft a quarterback, we should go after a CB, SS, ILB or DE in the first round (unless Jerry Maclin falls to us, which I doubt). We can get a WR to groom to take over LC’s role in the second and possibly even the third round (Kenny Britt). Finally, picking up a running back to spell TJ, in the third to fourth (Donald Brown) would be a good idea as well.
Quick opinions:
Derek Anderson: is not the answer, he had one decent season, where the team as a whole overperformed,
Jake Delhomme: is not worth it, besides what are the chances that Carolina will not resign him.
Leftwich: that would just be dumb. -
Brett helped bring this team from 4-12 to 9-7 within six months and while learning the play book on the road. Now, some of you “Lousy Jets Fans” are willing to throw out this HOF QB because he didn’t take you to the promised land in six months >?

jake delhome is the worst idea i ever heard on this site!

if its so long farvewell maybe the jets can get sanchez from usc at 17

Still talking about the Jets like they’re a win now team? Tisk tisk.
