Schottenheimer’s Soap Opera Continues
After a source reported this morning that Brian Schottenheimer could be staying put, Adam Schefter is reporting that this is not the end of this little drama.
Despite reports that Schottenheimer will be returning to the Jets, another source insisted that no decision has been made and it might not be until the end of this week. Schottenheimer is said to be mulling his options for the 2009 season and beyond, and it is far from certain that he will be back in New York, even if the Jets want him.
… as it stands, Schottenheimer is said to be wanted in New York but also curious about other opportunities. These days there are plenty.
There are six known offensive coordinator openings — Detroit, New England, Oakland, San Francisco, St. Louis and Tampa Bay. Plus Kansas City and Carolina could be in the market for an offensive coordinator.
I like Adam Schefter’s body of work a lot, but he’s been a pretty transparent schill for Schott’s agent Jimmy Sexton on this topic for weeks now. Other than report that there are teams that might be interested, there’s been nothing solid linking Schottenheimer to any of these openings so far. There might be teeth behind this, but many of these opportunities have been open for days already, which can seem like years during the January coaching carousel. If teams wanted Schott, it would have made many news outlets already.
Brian Schottenheimer has allowed his agent free reign over this situation and he’s doing everything in his power to pull a Tobias Funke here, making Schottenheimer the talk of the water cooler. “Boy this Schottenheimer is really something!!!”
Opportunities might be out there for Schottenheimer, but his own resume isn’t helping him out all that much. Unless the fact that his resume isn’t working … IS working for him … how very Schottenheimer-esque …

If he does not end up in Detroit, then please send him to New England!!!
Shotty’s play calling sucks and it would be much easier to win both games against NE next year.
I wonder since the Jets kicked the water boy to the curb, do you think NE will still have a personal vendetta against the Jets?
Bassett, you nailed it. What options are Schottenheimer mulling? Quitting? Not only have I not heard anything substantive linking Schott to ANY openings (HC/OC/QB coach) on ANY other team but Schott can’t leave to become the OC of another team unless the Jets fire him. Schott has absolutely no leverage in this situation. He is an idiot for letting his agent make him look like such a jackass.
i’ve always thought schott is a never-nude…
Jet-Fan, Schott can go to NE, MIami, or Buffalo, and it would be a beautiful thing. He couldn’t tell them anything about our players because, he had no clue how to use them.
How can Tannenbaum keep an OC who gave the ball to Leon Washington three times or less, for half of our games.
After a TD in our first three games, Chansi Stucki’s picture was on milk containers.
He got Clowney one reception for the year. It was thrown behind him and he took it 26 yards.
After waiting nine games to get our first round pick, Dustin Keller, involved in the Offense — Keller caught six passes for 107 and a TD against St. Louis. Keller then helped us beat NE and TN. In the SF game, he dropped one pass, on our first drive, and didn’t see the ball for the rest of the year.
I can go on and on about Schottenheimer’s obvious formations and his horrible play-calling but — just get rid of him.
I believe he can take any OC position that is offered to him just as long as the assistant head coach title accompanies it…that would be an upgrade from his current position on the Jets…the problem is for Schotty, so far those offers haven’t happened unless we are not aware of them…
GO GO GO GO!!!!!
Bill Bellicheat is NOT taking Schotty. he did not get 3 rings by having a Schotty on the side line
Ken, It’s only a wish.
who is telling this guy he his worth this trouble and speculation?? does he have don king in his corner? i think he’s a decent up and coming coordinator but if he in any way thinks he is worthy of some promtion or role on some other team……….dont let the door hit you on the way out. honestly the only reason i would want him back is for familiarality and continuity for the young developing qb’s sake. it’ll probably make it easier for their transition to being a starter, but other wise schott can take a hike if he’s gonna act like that
Brian Shottenheimer………..YOUR FIRED!
I hope the years of prevent defense are behind us.
I alway’s said if were going to go down we better go down fighting…….Send the house REX.
The real problem here is that the way Schottenheimer has scripted his exit is the way he calls plays. Any half-decent OC would have been able to find his way out.
I know its a wish Harvlis, I am wishing with you dude. agree on all points. please someone take Schotty of our hands.
how about Cleveland?
Can you believe this is a story? They can take him.
“pretty transparent schill for Schott’s agent Jimmy Sexton” ???
the way Mark Berman of the Post is a blatantly obvious schill for Starbury and Peter King has man-crushes with everything Bellichick and Favre?
Schefter is fairly credible while Berman and King are impostors.
i agree with every1 who wants shotty to be fired…or let him go…we wont have any regrets…in fact it would be more of a blessing to us…just my thoughts…
I didn’t want Schott back, after his first season here… nor his second one… nor his third one.
I’m tired of seeing Schott’s name mentioned.
Since Woody seems to be paying a bit of attention to fans, may I suggest that everyone posts on every Jets board… every newspaper story & blog… everywhere – - release our offense from bondage… release Schott from his contract.
Go away Lil Schott.
Bassett nailed it — this is nothing more than getting Baby Schott some exposure.
He is under contract. So if he wants to mull over the opportunities that are available to him it is pretty simple. There is one job that is available. The one the Jets are paying him to do. Offensive Coordinator of the NYJ.
I think he is a bright young mind but cry me a river if he is upset that he was passed over for head coach. The Seattle game alone ruled him out.
Get rid of him and make Callahan OC.
schotty isn’t great and isn’t terrible. but i don’t think he’s every going to be much better than he was these last three years. i might still be willing to give him one more year, but if he leaves i won’t be upset.
and as for his job status, he may leave at any time to become OC/Asst. HC, because that would be a promotion. just the same way rex ryan was able to leave balt for a promotion with the jets.
