of course kipers draft cuts off after 16… does anyone know who he has us takin i say mualuaga cuz davis and jenkins r gone.. can someone post it
The pressure being applied to Gholston right off the bat is very interesting. It is even more interesting that they (Pettine and Ryan) are questioning what’s in him and what makes him tick. I think we all saw it last year on the field that he not only looked lost, but he looked like and sounded like he didn’t even have an interest in being out there. Ryan is looking for football players and Gholston has only been playing a few years, not since he was a kid because its what he loves. This is going to be fun to watch. Is the guy Johhny Mitchell, all the talent in the world with no interest in football or is he Terrell Suggs who just needs to be coached up? I hope Pettine can light a fire under his ass by putting him front and center, coaching him up and getting results from him by using his assets (speed and power) versus trying to teach him to read and react, the way Mangini and Sutton did. Either way, he (56) better come in here ready to play instead of roaming around like a lost kid at a department store like last year.
Kiper had us taking Percy Harvin from FLA
drose in the 1st rnd??? he mustve had 1 to many gin and tonics… that to me is a reach.. if its not maclin or crabtree im good defense first
i understand everyone thinks we need a speed receiver that can stretch the field… but why are we willing to risk a 1st rnd pick on1 when we could possibly have 1 in clowney… lers analyze shall we.. every team needs those 3 types of receivers deep threat possesion and good slot guy
possesion cotch- do people forget he had a 1000 yds year b4 this
deep threat clowneyi who says this guy cant stretch the field and he has decent height (6 ft) i think
slot guy stuckey- he makes his catches and hes a great slot guy a good 3rd down receiver runs crisp routes with good hands…
why draft a receiver when u have good ones in house… adress more glaring needs like cb safety another pass rusher… something…
if we have a run first offense with a lot of play action that will help JC get the separation.
We do not have WR’s who can make plays on their own for the most part. Smart play calling will help our production
Its always fun talking about the draft, but Favre’s pending decision, Freee Agency, trades and based on Ryan’s player tape evaluations, and needs re-assessment, it is too early to call.
Case in point. what if Favre retires and Barton moves on…what impact on cap does that give us to go after Asomugha to be the lock down corner to play opposite Revis and man up for the blitz packages Ryan wants to run? Do they bring in Cory Ivy? Move Lowery to safety or Leonhard? Do they want to keep Barton and bring in Scott? You have to imagine a Raven or two are coming over. Regardless, all of these changes are going to impact the draft.
Bring Scott and leonhard over!
Also, I was extremely excited about Favre coming to the Jets, but that has passed. I feel it would be better to cut our losses, and let one of the young guns play. Get favre, and Barton out of here. Bring Scott and Leonhard over, and draft defense with 1st two picks. Offense can already run, now work in lots of PA. The only way I want a new running back next season is if he is an absolute beast, a true smash mouth runner.
one thing i KNOW/LIKE about Tannenbaum and Woody is that they are not afraid to throw around some money for good quality players, and THIS year will be no different!
I like Banks draft scenario better than Kipers (who is not usually right). Harvin is not what we need, too small, fragile and not a dominating WR (more a dominator with the ball in his hands all the time like Reggie Bush).
I could see us taking Maclin if he can run routes were he there. But I would love taking the second best CB on the board to play opposite Revis.
However, I think our draft is shaped first by Ryan’s film based assessment of our players and their responses to his critiques, second by Favre’s decision, and third by FA.
We are not deep enough to draft a player we get in FA. So I see CB, S, ILB, DE, on the defensive side, probably in that order, and WR on the O side if a big, durable, explosive WR is waiting for us.

macklin and crabtree are going to be long gone by #17. i dont think the draft is that deep at receiver. it seems obvious to go defense in round 1. i like us going CB with pick #1. use lowery in slot coverage or consider beginning the process of converting him to safety. please God, get ty law, smith and barret out of town. with the next pick i would go NG if a value is available. Pouha is a special teamer and deep reserve at best. Big Jinx is probably the single most important player on the team – we need to protect against him getting overworked or hurt.
Depending on who else is around that might better fit a need (ILB or S or #2 CB), I wouldn’t be too upset if the JETS chose Percy Harvin. The guy is electric.
Now, I’d prefer that they fill a bigger need, but this wouldn’t exactly be a luxury pick. Aside from Leon Washington, they don’t have a guy who other teams just flat-out fear getting his hands on the ball (Keller is obviously a player you don’t want to have to tackle, but his abilities pose a different type of threat).
Just look at what DeShawn Jackson did for Philly this year – 912 receiving yards and 1 return TD. Let’s also not forget Steve Smith (who I might rather have than any other, taller WR in football, sans maybe a guy like T.O. or Moss), or even Santana Moss for that matter (aside from injuries with Moss, he makes big plays too).
In my mind, this really isn’t a luxury pick for the JETS if Harvin fell and he was the BPA. They need a play-maker at WR, and this doesn’t mean the guy has to be big. That’s what we all want (a big, fast WR with great hands who runs great routes), but we all know how few of them there are in the NFL. I love what Cotchery brings to the table, but he isn’t a dynamic playmaker, really.
While it would be great to have a mammoth WR for fade routes and near the goal-line, other than that, I don’t see why it matters if a guy drops 1,000+ yards and 10 TD’s and is a smaller receiver, compared to a taller guy who does the same thing. What, does Steven Smith not get double-covered because he’s little? Of course he does.
Yeah, a returner is not currently a need, but insofar as that is concerned, Harvin could provide depth and insurance.
you dont use your first round pick on depth….little fast guys are everywhere in the league no need to use a first rounder on one…we need D line help or the best available corner….I would love the kid from BC he would provide much needed releif for jenkins and could move around to end and eat up blockers for vernon and pace to develop.
Jets must draft a DB. Secondary was weak evenbefore the team collapsed.
